Can you lead worship?
The inward expression and the outward expression of worship matter. They both exist, they work together, and must be held in tension.

LOVE GUARDS
Love doesn’t always look like love. In this episode, Paul continues the series by reviewing the guarding that comes from scripture and the guarding that comes the local church.
Ephesians 3:17-19…that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

LOVE GIVES
For the next 4 weeks, Paul is going to be doing a series on “Before you say I love you.”
This week he introduces the subject, talks about the four main functions of love, and discusses the kind of Love that we are talking about.

We make thousands of decisions everyday.
This week, Paul talks about the two systems that our brain uses to make decisions, the paradox of choice, and the decoy effect by reviewing Exodus chapters 5 through 7.

If you've ever met anybody that has gone through withdrawals, you know what that looks like. It's not pretty. In Exodus, we see the people of Israel withdraw from Egypt and it lays out a roadmap to our withdrawal from sin.
The word for the church this year is “extraordinary.” We are going to do ordinary things this year. We are going back to the basics. We are going to put extra effort, extra discipline, extra time, and extra focus into doing the ordinary things and it is going to be an extraordinary year.

Ephesians 6:10-17
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. God above us (12:42 - 14:52)In the Scripture, you read about how God and man walked side by side in the garden, in unity. There is God and Adam meeting in this place and having communion. But then, Adam chooses sin over God. He chooses his wife over God and he falls into sin. With that, there is a separation between God and man. Now God is far from man, He was above us.

In Jesus, God is now with us.
It’s important to realize that Jesus is not in the manger anymore – he became a Man.

Our desire for intimacy (9:55 - 19:29)
God wants to be known (19:29 - 23:09)“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
God’s desire has always been to reveal himself to his creation. We see it in the Old Testament, God is constantly revealing himself to the Israelites and pointing to Jesus. In the New Testament Gospels we see Jesus on earth revealing who God is. In the book of Acts and in today’s church we see the Holy Spirit revealing Jesus to us. He is always revealing himself.
Only God can truly reveal himself (23:09 - 27:20)“Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.”
God’s Revelation is for Relationship (27:20 - 45:16)
God made the sacrifice, not us. God went the distance, not you. When it was our disobedience that caused the separation, He still came near.

God was looking to use the real Moses. The real Moses was not about being Egyptian royalty. The real Moses was about shepherding God’s people. You don’t learn to shepherd God’s people while sitting in the palace.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
אֶמֶת (Emet) = truth
שקר (Sheker) = lie
The problem in the church is not sin. The problem in the church is hidden sin.
We all sin, that’s not the issue. The problem is, are we keeping it hidden? Are we coming to church trying to pretend we don’t sin?
Or do we walk in here with confidence? To celebrate that God forgave me and He continues to forgive me.
There is a difference between the fellowship of the fake and the fellowship of the forgiven.
Found Out vs. Freedom (28:00 - 40:22)
What would change in your life today if you no longer had the fear of being found out? What kind of freedom could you live in if you didn’t have the fear that someone is going to eventually find out the real you?
Too many times, we are making ourselves something that we’re not.
Philippians 2:7 NIV “…he made himself nothing…”
The reason we can be honest with each other is because our faith is not in our own performance. We don’t have to cower in the shadows and create a racket for everyone else to see. Instead, I can bring it to the light and confess it to the family of God.
Our freedom is found in the light.
We can never repent from the sin that we are not willing to confess.
The real Jesus wants to have an encounter with the real you.

Questioning God’s Ability: How can you use a shepherd to talk to a pharaoh?

Questioning God’s Ability: How can you speak through someone like me?

Questioning God’s Ability: How can You make me worth listening to?

Questioning God’s Authority: How can You send me?
God’s Authority (21:55 - 25:57)When I produce excuses for not doing what God has called me to do I am either questioning God’s ABILITY or God’s AUTHORITY.
What is in your hand? (25:57 - 34:07)God is not going to ask anything of you that you don’t already have.
Our excuses for not doing what God has called us to do are very mute.
We’re only talking ourselves out of the blessing.
Prayer (34:07 - 39:30)
Reading Exodus 3:1- 8 (0:00 - 6:35)This is the Promised Land that God has promised to them. So many times we think that if it is God’s Will for us to go and get something or receive something – if it’s God’s plan then God moves everything out of the way for you and you just stroll on in. Over-comers don’t look for things to be easy. If you want to be an overcomer, the Lord will put that to the test. Overcomes have to OVERCOME. Warriors have to battle.
Reading Exodus 3:9-12 (6:35 - 8:59)When did God say the sign would happen? After, not before. If you seek for signs, you will be misled. Don’t seek for signs, seek the Word of God and seek to be obedient to that Word. Here’s the sign that you are an overcomer, because you OVERCAME.
Reading Exodus 3:13-20 (8:59 - 12:42)How many of you have prayed for a miracle? We’ve got to be very specific when we pray for miracles. Miracles will always work to the benefit of those who are in right standing with the Lord. They always work towards His will, not yours. He’s going to do the miracle that he wants to do.
Reading Exodus 3:21 - 4:16 (12:42 - 20:44)God provided Moses with someone to speak to the people on his behalf. What God did not do, was He did not provide Moses with anyone to speak to God on his behalf or to listen to God on his behalf. There will be people that can speak on your behalf to people. In your relationship with the Lord, no one can speak to the Lord for you, but you. No one can hear the Lord for you, but you.
Reading Exodus 4:17-20 (20:44 - 23:05)Many times we want to put everything in the past behind us. And then it comes back and we blame it on the enemy. But God is saying, “That was me. I brought that back. You didn’t deal with it when you were supposed to or you dealt with it the wrong way. So I get to bring it back because I’m going to teach you how to deal with it the right way. You did it in your own strength and you failed, yes. Now it’s time to go back to that place and you’re going to do it My way and you’re going to see a different result.”
Reading Exodus 4:21-31 (23:05 - 28:32)If you want to know why the Lord is saving you, why he saved you in the first place. It’s not so that you can have more money in the bank, more smiles on instagram, more selfies of you being prosperous and happy. It’s so that you can serve him. “Let my son go so that he may serve Me.”
The Stage of Moses’ Preparation (28:32 - 32:39)
STAGE 1: Moses Among the Egyptians
In proximity to his people.
40 years in the palace learning he was a somebody.
STAGE 2: Moses Among the Midianites
Far from his people.
40 years in the desert learning he was a nobody.
STAGE 3: Moses Among the Hebrews
Among his people.
40 years learning what God can do with a nobody.
Your dedication in God’s preparation (32:39 - 38:57)Your dedication in God’s preparation will determine your limitations and your destinations.
It’s not just what you are saved from, it's what you are saved to (38:57 - 48:01)Out of Egypt and into Canaan.
Out of Pharaoh and into God.
Out of Sin and into Holiness.
It’s one thing to be pulled out of slavery, it’s another thing to have slavery pulled out of you.
It’s one thing to be pulled out of sin, it’s another thing to have sin pulled out of you.
God is doing a preparation in you and it’s not an easy thing.
God is preparing you and you alone to do something that only you can do.
Only you can reach the people that God has called you to reach.
Are you wanting to hear from God? What is the last thing that he told you? Keep doing that.
He's sending you, walking with you, and waiting for you.
Over the next coming weeks, we’re going to be doing an in-depth study of the book of Exodus. Before we begin, Paul gives us a review of Genesis and a short introduction to Exodus. He talks about how God is introduced to us as the Redeemer and how we can begin to see Jesus in the Old Testament pages.
Review of Genesis (0:00 - 13:59)The story of Genesis goes from the Garden of Eden to the Grave of Joseph. It’s the written history of man’s continuous failure to be what God meant him to be.
Sin comes from one individual (Eve), to one couple (Adam and Eve), to one family (Cain and Abel), then to communities, cities, nations, and finally the entire world. It all culminates in God finally saying, “I regret that I ever made man.”
God later chooses one man from among these fallen people: Abram.
The Promise spreads from one man (Abram) to one couple (Abraham and Sarah) to one family (Isaac to Jacob and to the sons of Jacob). They start out as seventy men, women, and children and grow to over two million.
Introduction to Exodus (13:59 - 17:54)After 400 years of silence, we find God’s people still in a foreign land. They were originally there to simply survive through a famine, which should have only taken 5 years. Instead, they get comfortable and settle there.
In scripture, we see that Egypt is a representation of Sin, and Pharaoh is a representation of Satan.
God is introduced as Redeemer (19:58 - 27:53)Redeem: to obtain the release or restoration of, as from captivity, by paying a ransom.
God loves to rescue people from trouble.
He loves to get people out of distress.
He loves to remove the burdens of life.
If you trust in God as these people did, He will get you out. It is His will to get you out.
Foreshadowing of Jesus (27:53 - 37:19)
We’ll see silhouettes of the Gospel in Exodus. Throughout this series, we will go back and forth between Exodus and the New Testament. We will use the full-color pictures of the New Textmate to fill in these silhouettes in Exodus.
The most important one that’s coming up is the Passover Lamb.
“Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin (death) of the world.”
We often think that Blood = Death, but from God’s perspective, Blood = Life. So when Jesus gave his blood for the forgiveness of our sins, Jesus used his life to cover our death.
What do you think of when someone says the word “blood?” Especially around this time of year, we usually associate blood with scary movies, gory movies, spooky costumes, etc. When we think of blood we usually think of fear and death. But what does God say about blood?
Have we drained the blood from the Gospel? (0:00 - 4:22)In an attempt to “clean up” the stories, have we removed the very life of the stories we read and tell? Perhaps if we had a better understanding of blood and death, we could give better honor to sharing the Gospel.

“For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.”

Adam and Eve stepped into death by sinning against God. God, in His mercy, covered them with life.

When death visited God’s people before their exodus from Egypt they were protected by the life of the lamb.

Jesus covered our sin with His blood. He covered our death with His life.

Indeed, under the law, almost everything is purified with BLOOD, and without the shedding of BLOOD there is no forgiveness of SINS.

The Blood in the Gospel (21:48 - 25:36)
Jesus traded our death for his life. We will end up in eternity either carrying our death with us or carrying his life with us. There is no in between.
To remove the blood from the Gospel is to remove the life from the Gospel.
Communion (25:36 - 29:42)
What’s more important to you - the church being nice to you or the church sharing the Gospel with you? Most people prefer nice. In this sermon, Pastor Paul takes us down a journey to learn more about what led to this church climate and shows how we can move forward in light of what Jesus says.

The Swinging Pendulum (6:30 - 9:50)The knee-jerk reaction from churches being completely judgmental to being completely about a redefined grace.
Dispensationalism (9:50 - 12:13)The notion that we are in a new era of grace for all. This train of thought leads us to believe that holiness doesn’t matter because everyone’s a winner with Jesus.
Ego (12:13 - 19:03)
Christians want the world to like them. We want to be friends with the world instead of friends to the world. Do we think that we have a better way to get people saved than Jesus does?
Needing People or Leading People (19:03 - 32:43)You can only lead people to the extent that you don’t need them. You are either leading people or needing people. If you need everyone to like you, you won’t lead anyone.

A New Name (38:06 - 45:11)In Matthew 16:17-18 we read that Jesus changed Peter’s name from Simon (the Reed) to Peter (the Rock). Five verses later, in verse 23, Jesus tells Peter, “Get behind me Satan!” If we are always looking for niceness, we are going to miss God’s correction and his loving affection.
