In a preview of his 2019 Southwest Fox sessions, Eric Selje compares Visual FoxPro Advanced and X-Sharp, offering his take on how VFP developers can take advantage of these new tools.
Rick Borup has been working in the FoxPro community for years. In recent years, he has shown Mercurial as his version control system of choice but at this year's Southwest Fox, he'll be showing how developers can take advantage of Git.
He's also got a new tool under his belt - a little database that makes sense for FoxPro developers who are looking for a fast and easy (and portable) DB.
Listen in and see how Rick got involved in the community and also how these tools may make your world a bit easier.
After so many years, XBASE is coming to DotNet!!! Note that I said xBase and not VFP. The xSharp project is an initiative for all xBase devotees, supporting Visual object, clipper and VFP syntax.
I talk with project founder Robert van Der Hulst about how he got into the industry, and the how's and why's of the xSharp project.
Find out more at http://www.xsharp.info.
Two members of the xSharp team will be at this year's Southwest Conference.
A wide-ranging discussion with Tamar Granor, one of the organizers of Southwest Fox 2019, about women in tech, different ways of sharing information and how to go from wallflower to presenter.
The first deadline for Southwest Fox 2019 is coming up on July 1st and Tamar gives several great reasons to attend, including ways she has learned new ideas that have become part of her own arsenal of tech tools.
She also tells of her own history with programming at Penn State, introduction to the online world and the gender bias in technology.
Join us for a discussion with Rick Schummer, one of the Organizer of Southwest Fox as we learn where he started, what and how he's learned to get to where he is and why conferences will make him say "wow - how can I use that?"
Find out more about Southwest Fox at http://www.swfox.net
Doug Hennig talks about his start in the computer industry from Commodore Pet and how much FoxPro development he does today. He's also excited about the Southwest Fox conference and what he's learned from past conferences and the real reasons people should attend (hint, it's not just the sessions).
Here's our annual Southwest Fox show with Doug Hennig, Rick Schummer and Tamar Granor, recorded last week.
The Supersaver deadline is fast approaching (June 30th) so sign up now and in the time between now and the conference, enjoy Doug, Rick and Tamar discussing what they've learned over the years, what they're excited about and what's all this about GitHub.
Cheers!
Today, as with past years, I speak with Rick Schummer, Tamar Granor and Doug Hennig about what's happening at this year's Southwest Fox conference - October 26-29, 2017 in Gilbert, AZ.
It's a smaller conference this year but there's a lot of interesting sessions. The Early Bird deadline is July 1st so head over to Swfox.net to register - but AFTER you listen to the show!

This is FoxPro's time to shine once again. Come to Gilbert, AZ in October for Southwest Fox 2013.
As with every year, here is my interview with Doug Hennig, Tamar Granor and Rick Schummer, organizers of the number one FoxPro developer conference in North America.
This year, the Super Saver ends on June 30th - and this is their cut-off for a go/no-go on the conference - so if you want to share some of your brightness with other FoxPro Developers, now's the time to do it.
Sounds like there's lots of exciting things planned - be sure not to miss it!
Southwest Fox is next week - if you're not going, Rick Schummer has noted that some of the sessions will be available online. Go to http://www.swfox.net for more information.
As well, listen to Tuvia Vinitsky talk about his SWFox sessions and his work as an ambassador for FoxInCloud!

Is Lianja the next best tool for FoxPro developers looking to leverage their knowledge in the world of desktop, mobile and web applications?
In this show, we talk to Barry Mavin, the creator of Lianja and Hank Fay, a long-time FoxPro developer who is looking very hard at Lianja for line of business applications.
As a note, attendees of Southwest Fox 2012 will be receiving a Standard edition of Lianja!
Note: This episode features a slightly different style of production that I've been listening to on 99% Invisible, a great podcast by Roman Mars. It's not exactly the same but when listening to early cuts of this episode, I found it really worked well. Let me know what you think.
What are you doing in October? FoxPro developers will be at Southwest Fox 2011. In this episode, Doug Hennig, Tamar Granor and Rick Schummer spill the beans (well not all of them) on what you can expect at this year's conference.
Need more details? Check out http://www.swfox.net!
A few weeks ago, Matt Slay released Go Fish on VFPX. We got together and talked about what Go Fish is, his thoughts on WPF and other development areas. He also noted how he's using Thor (Jim Nelson's latest VFPX offering).
Enjoy the show!

Listen to our latest show for an interview with Rainer Becker, who is currently in the midst of the German FoxPro User Conference and Kevin Ragsdale with his thoughts on this year's Southwest Fox.
Rainer has some interesting news about a special arrangement they have made with Microsoft US, regarding FoxPro.
This episode features an interview with Paul Mrozowski on his Pre-con "FoxPro and the Web" and JQuery session at this year's SW Fox, coming up in mid-October in Gilbert AZ.
Note: the audio for our interview was a little choppy so I had to "refresh" it.
In this episode, we speak with Eric Selje, of Salty Dog Solutions, one of the new speakers at this year's Southwest Fox conference about his sessions on extending web applications with VFP and getting into the VFP2C32 library.
In this episode, we talk with Rick Borup, one of this year's speakers at Southwest Fox 2010, on design patterns and Ruby on Rails.
The early bird deadline for SW Fox has passed - but that's no excuse not to sign up. Kevin Ragsdale has been serving up some great posts about past sessions he has attended.
In this episode on the FoxShow, we talk with Toni Feltman (of F1 Technologies) on her upcoming sessions at Southwest Fox.
In this episode, we talk with Doug Hennig, Rick Schummer and Tamar Granor about their plans for Southwest Fox 2010, including special registration deals, session breakdowns and the Ceil Silver Ambassador attendees.

Today we feature an interview with Uwe Habermann about his upcoming Southwest Fox sessions on how to integrate FoxPro and Silverlight. Uwe and his team have been working on tools to migrate a FoxPro application (including forms AND reports) into Silverlight, using COM servers and also some C#. Part of this involves the Visual Extend framework but will also work with non-VFX projects.
We always enjoy the feedback - so please send it to foxshow@gmail.com or Skype at akselsoft.
An interview with Tamar Granor, Doug Hennig and Rick Schummer regarding Southwest Fox 2009, coming up in October in Mesa, Arizona.
Discussions range from choice of sessions, VFPX, new speakers and sponsors and the state of FoxPro development.
Enjoy!
When speaking about VFPx at last year's Southwest Fox conference, it became evident that there aren't a lot of avenues for finding out how to use various pieces of VFPx. So I'm creating videos designed to showcase VFPx components, starting with the Control Renamer.
If you have ever wanted to rename a control in a class or form but were hesitant because of missing other code references, the Control Renamer is definitely a tool you want to try.
Now, there are lots of areas where new options can be added into this tool - but they are primarily "extras" like setting color settings or some logging.
Check it out below!
FoxPro VFP
Welcome to the first show of 2009
. On today's show:
FoxShow #60 features an interview with Ken Levy recorded on the second day of Southwest Fox 2008.
We talked about a number of things including what he's been doing since he left Microsoft, the new CodeCast podcast that he is doing with EPS, APPScanX - a new VFP tool for helping to scan projects and code for specific elements and what he feels his contribution has been to the FoxPro community.
Enjoy!
From Southwest Fox 2008 in Mesa Arizona, here is the audio from my Profiling and Refactoring session.
In it, we discuss what refactoring is and what it isn't and how the VFPX Code Analyst helps make refactoring easier in Visual FoxPro.
We also discuss how to best use the Log file generated from the VFP Coverage Profiler.
Here's another "discussion" from Southwest Fox, all about how developers get the most out of their day and, er, shower.
Discussion with Cathy Pountney, Mike Yeager, Alan Stevens, Art Bertquist, Andrew MacNeill and others.
Enjoy.
I didn't want to do a full show on this little interview but wanted to put it into the stream because I think it's really valuable for developers to hear.
It's a discussion Alan Stevens and I had one morning at Southwest Fox 2008. It was held after his talk on Agile and I had some specific questions we wanted to get into. There is some background noise as we were talking outside at the breakfast table.
If you've never heard Alan speak, this is a great way of getting a feel for his sessions.
Enjoy!
At SWFox, there are a number of great sessions going on, most of which have the "please do not record or tape" - however, some, like this one, were open for all and everyone was told "you are on the Internet".
This show is the entirety of the VFPX Meeting session - a session hosted by Craig Boyd, Bo Durban, Rick Schummer and myself about how the community can get better involved with VFPX itself and some other suggestions at the type of things the community wants to see.
Audio is a conference room is tough - but I've tried to increase it where needed so you can hear the people in the back row.
Enjoy

Welcome back to the FoxShow! We've been offline for quite some time (last one was June 2006) but we're back and aiming to hit a new show at least once a month.
This particular show is a screencast of a cool new way for building web applications using FoxPro! (format is WMV - let me know if you prefer it in other formats)
The audio may be a little off
I'll be following this up with a regular podcast that includes part of the interview along with some other news items from the FoxPro community.
As always, let me know how you enjoy the show.
In show #39, Andrew MacNeill speaks with Kevin Cully about what he's got planned for FoxForward 2006, a conference being held in Alpharetta, Georgia from September 15-17, 2006.

This show includes an interview with fellow Canadian and Microsoft Program Manager, Milind Lele, who is working on the Visual FoxPro Sedna project.
In our interview, he talks about the recent changes, how the team is working with on the community tech preview, getting feedback and work on the second VFP 9 Service Pack - similar to what was noted in the most recent VFP 9 Letter.
FoxShow #37 : We're back with an interview with Rod Miller of dbi-Tech on their big Sedna announcement. Check out there VFP Community home page here.
Welcome to 2006 - what a late start in the year for the FoxShow but what a great interview we have with Doug Hennig, Rick Schummer and Craig Boyd all about SednaX, the Visual FoxPro community development project and how you can get involved.
Also noted in the show:
Craig Bailey's Comments on the Surge

the Listener Survey Note: the audio may sound a bit strange in this show as I'm testing out a new device called RapidVoip and am not so sure on it - but would LOVE to hear your feedback.
Also to note that while this show didn't really follow a set format - newer shows will. I just have to get back on top with some new sounds, formats and more.
Check out GoToMeeting - for meeting online - it's really handy and inexpensive for those quick meetings that just have to happen!
Hope everyone has a great new Year! Thanks for listening - take our listener survey so we can ensure that we'll have the biggest year yet in 2006.
I currently have done up 35 shows but the goal is for a new show every week. If you've got a product, a topic or just want to talk about what's going on with Visual FoxPro, software development and more, email me at foxshow@gmail.com!!
Happy New Year!
If you've been listening to the show , please take our listener survey. This is something I am using to try and improve the overall quality of the show.
Thanks!
Sorry for the late show but I've been editing interviews. Rather than make an extra long show, Episode #35 features a part of my interview with John Petersen (YES! that JVP) about legal issues that developers need to be aware of.
The interview takes up most of the show (save for the opening and the ad) - he identifies very valuable issues for Visual FoxPro and other developers to be aware of.

I posted this on my own blog but I also wanted to make sure that if you wanted to take a peek at Dabo, the open-source database development environment written by VFPer's Ed Leafe and Paul McNett, you could see some of it here.
It uses Python and MySQL. The video is in Windows Media format - not exactly multi-platform ready - if you're on a new iPod, let me know and I'll put up a Quicktime version.
There's a lot more to it - but it's taking me forever to get this out of the hour long overview Ed gave me. The other pieces will be coming shortly. We'll be talking to them soon on the FoxShow as well - so if you have questions, shoot them my way and I'll be sure to ask when we do it.

One of the goals I've had for a long time is to try and keep the show under 30 minutes - ideally around twenty. As listeners know, this is incredibly difficult with interviews that typically last that long.
So what do you think? Should I separate interviews into their own "show" ( a la BuzzOutLoud model) and thus keep the shows down in length or keep them all in one big show.
It may really depend on your player. For example, when I use the Creative Muvo, it keeps track of where I am with each show and thus when I stop and restart, it picks up right where I left off. Other devices may not be so lucky.
Let me know.

The FoxShow is typically about 30 minutes long and we try to get it out weekly although it was two weeks from the last one but Eric's last comment got me thinking. Obviously shows that have a single theme (like the one on MSF will be longer) but for a show like FoxShow #15 which covered a variety of things:

| | What is the ideal length for the FoxShow?
| One 30 minute show | | Multiple 10 minute shows | |
