In Daniel chapter 1, we see that we can be in the world, but not of it. In amongst an ungodly culture, we can be obedient to God without breaking society’s rules. God rewards such obedience with increased favour, to make us excel within society and draw people towards God. He empowers us to turn the world upside down (or the right way up!) through His love and Holy Spirit.
