Advent is a time of returning and a time of penance as we wait and as we watch. Where is our focus directed? How do you use your spiritual gifts?
Gift of Wisdom: To judge and direct affairs according to divine knowledge functioning in normal everyday life and relating them to God.
Understanding: Penetrating insight into the higher truths necessary for our salvation. Aligned to the path of heaven.
Counsel: Being allowed to be directed by God, which is necessary for salvation. Is not being a counselor. Let God form and mold you like clay, be willing to be formed. Sometimes it is painful process.
Fortitude: A firmness in mind in doing good and avoiding evil. Fortitude is what the martyrs had.
Knowledge: Ability to judge correctly about the matters of faith and right action as to never wander from the straight path of justice. We should all question our lives if all we are gaining is earthly knowledge.
Piety: Worship and duty to God. Being a son or daughter to Christ.
Fear of God: God is God, and I am not Him. To understand that the greatest suffering is being separated from God.
The above definitions are traditional definitions from Thomas Aquinas
