Starting an online business is more than just building and launching a WordPress website.
I’ve been doing this for a while.
There really isn’t anything new.
But…
… there are some times when things come together and it’s like all the pieces of the puzzle have fallen in to place and you have one of those “eureka” moments and wonder why it took you so long to figure it out.
Over the last few months, I’ve had just such a revelation.
It happened simply enough – I was cleaning out emails and then BOOM: I had that “aha” moment. What I figured out has made all the difference in the world for me.
It’s shown me the clearest of clear paths that I need to take like a bright light shining in a dark room.
It’s helped me:
• figure out how to maximize traffic to my blog, YouTube channel, and podcast • figure out the difference between successful and unsuccessful businesses online • find the missing pieces from my OWN business • shown me where I’m failing at helping myself and others • and a lot more….
This is from the Facebook Live session I did the other day where I cover the 7 fundamental secrets to building a successful online business. You do NOT want to miss this one!
Step by step I walk you through the 7 critical factors to build the best possible homepage for your website that will convert like crazy!
If you've ever wondered what the secret formula is for a killer homepage you're in luck because that's exactly what I'm covering here.
Too often, people just dump stuff on to their homepage because they want to shout out the things THEY want to talk about and completely miss the point that your homepage is for your visitors to help them answer two CRITICAL questions - and fast.
Your homepage plays a crucial role on your website.
It’s the page that has the best opportunity to rank high in search engine results because when someone links to your website it’s your homepage they will most likely link.
If you look at your analytics for your website you’ll see it’s probably the most visited page out of all the pages on your site.
So it should come as no surprise that best homepages ever designed are the result of lots of thought, research, and great planning.
But where do you begin?
When it comes to designing a new homepage for your website the best place to start is by figuring out your strategy and what you want to achieve before you start building anything.
Here’s the best part:
You don’t have to be a huge company with a big design and development team and a big budget to create an awesome homepage!
And here's another secret: These principles apply whether you're a personal brand, blogger, creator, small business or online entrepreneur!
When you know the characteristics of the three different kinds of web traffic coming to your site you can maximize the impact of your sales funnels and pages speaking a language your audience can clearly understand.

This episode represents the first in a new aspect I'm bringing in to the podcast - how to build your own web design business.
And there are lots of things that block us up, and slow us down. Today is the first of the myths that need to be busted when it comes to building your own successful web design business.
Learn 3 simple solutions to massively speeding up your website. Page load speed is a big deal.
If you've been struggling with getting off the ground, there may be a good reason for it. That's what I'm talking about in today's episode of Adventures in Digital Marketing
Instead of getting all wrapped up in all that's scary and wrong in the world right now - and there is plenty of that to go around - I think it's vital that we all focus on what we can do to be part of the solution instead being part of the problem. There are people fighting over bottled water and toilet paper (seriously - that's a thing) because they're scared. As creators, we have to focus on how we can speak in to the world of our audience and provide help and solutions instead of fear and panic. That's what we're talking about in this episode.
Coronavirus talk is everywhere, and affecting everything. Just because we're focused on online business doesn't mean that we don't have to take this seriously, because a lot of our businesses have to do with real-world stuff even though out businesses are online.
What's the most crucial part of sales? Everyone struggles to increase their online sales. It's a challenge that's as old as the internet itself.
The problem is things are changing and if you don't know what's the best and most efficient way of doing it, you're not going to see the results you want to see!
And if you're not getting the results then that means the sales aren't coming in and that means trouble for any business.
I've learned the key to unlocking exponential sales online and that's what I'm talking about in this episode!
Have you heard Sara Blakely's story? I've heard it for years - she's alumna of my alma mater, Florida State University, so when the topic of my college comes up, her name is usually pretty quick to be mentioned. I was reminded of her story at Funnel Hacking Live and it's an amazing story. But the light really came on for me this time and I saw her story in a whole new light.
You see, as online entrepreneurs, we struggle when things get hard. We wonder if we're cut out for all this. We wonder (with a healthy twinge of jealousy) at how the known entities in our space have had so much success, and are confused when we can't replicate it.
For us, discouragement and frustration are all too real - no one is immune from these things.
But after revisting Sara's story at FHL I figured out two critical components - two indispensable qualities - that are absolutely critical if we're going to make it to the level we aspire to, and that's what I'm talking about in this episode.
One of the biggest challenges all online entrepreneurs face is finding things that work among all the things that don't work. The problem is, in most instances, we don't know what we don't know so we have to keep working on things, rearranging, reformulating and reworking so we can figure out what's going to work. It costs us time, effort, and money to do these things. And this is exactly what I've been working on lately. I've completely revamped one of my funnels from top to bottom and it's had some really nice secondary implications for my online work and that's what I'm talking about in this episode.
The temptation to get frustrated when stuff isn't going your way is an easy trap to fall into. I know I've been there. But what I've learned is that getting frustrated doesn't help anything and by getting curious instead you can ask better questions and find new solutions to problems. In this episode I'm covering some of the things I've been working on and the latest update on the WordPress Website Challenge.
Ever struggle trying to figure out what you can sell online? Ever think that your business is "different" and creating an amazing offer is really hard for you?
Then you definitely want to check out this episode. In this episode I'm covering what makes a great offer and how you can brainstorm ideas to come up with something that will deliver a TON of value to your audience and help you earn money online.
So it seems as I've lost my mind, because I'm now giving away my entire course on how to build & launch a WordPress website! 23 modules of WordPress goodness on the way!
So if ANY of these are true:
You’re in luck because I’ve got you covered!
This is the first part in a detailed series on how to build and launch a self-hosted WordPress site …. the RIGHT way!
You don’t need to know how to code.
You don’t need to be a “techie” person.
All you need is a little desire and willingness to learn and you’ll have your site up and running in no time!
In this series I’m not leaving ANY steps out -- we’re going to start from the very beginning.
It's been a little quiet from me lately, but for good reason. One of the things I've not really talked about is a phone call that I got while I was in Nashville at Funnel Hacking Live. I talked about it a little in the Digital Marketing Mastery Group yesterday, but I also wanted to cover it here so you folks who aren't part of that group can know what's going on.
I'm also talking about pulling out all the stops in delivering as much help and value to you as I can, so make sure that you tune in to this episode!
Just got back from my trip to Nashville for Funnel Hacking Live 2020 and I'm back in to the routine of daily life and in this morning's episode, I'm covering my intial thoughts and feelings after having some time to digest and decompress from the trip.
There was so much great stuff - and I learned a ton!
FHL 2020 put all the pieces of the puzzle into place for me.
I wasn't sure what to expect, how I would react, who I'd meet, or what I'd think by the end of it.
But I have to say it's the best money I've invested in a long time.
I'm not a fanboy - not one to get overly impressed by other people who have huge names and have had great success.
BUT...
I will say that I lost my cool a little seeing Russell Brunson on stage in person for the first time.
And Steve J Larsen too.
Not because I'm a fanboy. But because I'm thoroughly impressed by the men that these guys are.
I'm inspired by their authenticity.
I'm inspired by what they've built of course, but what they've built is the result of the men they are.
it's the caliber of human being that those two guys are that inspires me the most.
I met some amazing people at the conference and I appreciate every one of you who took time to spend some time talking with me. So many others that I wanted to connect with, but unfortunately, it just didn't happen (but there is always next year!)
I wasn't sure if it was all going to be too much. If one has never been exposed to any of this teaching, then surely it would be like drinking from the fire hose.
But for me it wasn't that at all.
It was the level of depth, and reinforcement of stuff I'd already been exposed to that made the biggest impression.
I've been obsessed with 80/20 principle for a while now. I knew going into this conference that there was going to be 20% of what was presented that was going to make all the difference for me, so I was diligently searching for that 20% the whole time.
I learned from every session, no doubt. But in some of the sessions there were "aha!" moments that were mind-blowing revelations.
I told my wife on Sunday morning - I learned what I needed to learn.
A couple sessions validated some of my ideas in ways that were completely unexpected.
Thanks to Katheryn Jones, AJ Rivera, and Mike Schmidt for some great insights for what I need to do -- you helped me more than you know!
I see a very clear path for the next steps I need to take for what I need to do for my business.
I see the things I need to improve on, where I need to implement new systems, and tweak things.
Tony Robbins mentioned that repetition is the key to mastery and that's exactly what FHL 2020 was for me - more exposure - more repetition - deeper dives into the material and taking the next steps towards mastery.
So now that it's all over and I'm home. I'm not exhausted.
I'm inspired, but not hyped up.
I get it now.
I'm focused, determined and committed.
And I can't wait to get started!
I've been to conferences before, but I'm pretty sure those other events are nothing like this one. Russell Brunson, being the master marketer that he is, has been building the hype about this event for a while now, and I'm super excited about being able to be part of it. This is big expense, but I'm also dialed in and focused on making the most of this event, and this podcast talks about what I'm doing to get prepped for the event.
Since we're talking about digital marketing adventures I wanted to talk to you about things I've been working on lately, one of which has been email marketing. There is so much to learn if you're going to do it right, and according to experts who know, there is great financial reward that can be the result of truly delivering value to your list. So that's what we're talking about in this episode - what I'm doing, where I'm at and two critical resources that I couldn't do without!
I've struggled with getting traction. For a long time. I can't tell you how many times I've looked at my numbers for my website and felt disappointed. But I figured something out that's changing everything and my audience has exploded in growth, and allowed me to extend my reach and get my voice heard. And these are the things that I'm teaching to my customers and clients and they're producing great results. This is exactly what you need to hear about if you're trying get your voice heard above all the noise on the internet.
In order to be successful online you have to start by actually getting online! And what better way to do that than with a challenge? That's what I'm talking about in today's episode. I've got the PERFECT solution for helping you build and launch your website, even if you don't have any tech skills. Seriously - this is the training you've been looking for!
A slow loading and poor performing website could be seriously undermining your efforts to launch a successful online business, and it can actually be a bigger problem than you may think.
One of the greatest things about content management systems like WordPress is that they make it easy to get your website up and running pretty quickly.
You can have a site up and running in no time at all, start cranking out content, building a blog, or building your company’s website.
However, that same benefit of being able to start fast is also a potential issue because it’s so easy to get up and running quickly, it’s easy to think that things are just going to work and be fast out of the box.
That's a mistake.
In fact, it’s usually quite the opposite. The convenience of a quick start does not equal high performance. Your WordPress website has a lot of high-performance capabilities and because it’s usually so easy to get started and to extend the functionality, it’s easy to make the assumption that there isn’t much you need to do.
High performing websites are just like high-performance cars – there is a lot of stuff going on under the hood to make sure they’re performing at peak efficiency. So if you want your site to be running in top order like a finely tuned machine, you’re going to have to get under the hood and get to work.
Today, I'm introducing a new series called "Quick Tips Tuesday" on my YouTube channel.
These tips are specifically designed to give you fast, actionable information that you put in place right away to move the needle for your website and online business.

Thomas Edison is qouted as having said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." I can relate that sentiment in a big way.
I've been doing this for a while.

But...
... there are some times when things come together and it's like all the pieces of the puzzle have fallen in to place and you have one of those "eureka" moments and wonder why it took you so long to figure it out.

I recorded this Facebook Live session where I cover the 7 fundamental secrets to building a successful online business. You do NOT want to miss this one!
We all get super-excited when we're getting started online. We want just the right kind of look and feel, we want to have the right colors, and right layout, and all the other stuff that goes along with having a great looking, professional WordPress website. So the question soon follows: what theme should I use? How can I know if a theme is right for me? That's what I'm talking about today in episode #41 of the podcast - you don't want to miss this one!
I hope you had a great Holiday Season! It was a great time for rest and relaxation and I didn't realize how much I needed that! Sometimes it's easy to forget that you need to take time to get away and recharge. In my first episode of 2020 I'm talking about what's coming up and today I let the cat out of the bag. I'm super-excited and I think this is going to be incredibly helpful to so many who are looking to get started!
I've spent years trying to figure out and learn online business. I've found more ways that it DOESN'T work than it does. Years of frustration and minimal results. But that's changed. I've figured out the secret to online business and that's what I'm going to be talking about in this episode and over the next several episodes. This is the kind of stuff that can change your family tree when you execute it correctly. There are 7 foundational pillars to successful online business, and that's what I'm introducing you to today in this episode.
What's the biggest thing on your list that you need to do for 2020? If any of it has to do with building an online business then your first - or next - website is going to be on that list. Setting your goals and getting expectations in order is huge this time of year! So in order to help all of us along on that path is getting that part done, and that's what we're talking about here. I've got a new Challenge coming up that's going to help you build and launch your website, whether you've ever done it or not!
What is the difference between the people you see around you who are successful, and those who are not? Two words: Persistence and proficiency. It's those two words that make all the difference in the world. How do you get there? That's what this episode is all about, including the secret to finally making it through to the next level.
I've been to conferences before, but if I'm right, none of these conferences I've been to in the past will be anything like what Funnel Hacking Live is going to be, and I'm excited. This is a big expense for me - no doubt. But I'm stepping out on faith that I'm going to be able to connect with a lot of great people and learn at least enough to pay for the conference, and its associated expenses. I'm stoked! But I'm also scared!
I read a book several years ago that represented a serious paradigm shift for me. It made things perfectly clear about what's at stake and what's required. The question then came back to me: what could I do if everything that I held dear was to be lost if I didn't come through? It's a fascinating thought experiment, and for some people it's a reality. My answer to that question is what this podcast is all about.
So I mentioned on my Facebook Live last week that I've signed up to go to Funnel Hacking Live in Nashville in 2020 and I could not be more excited! It's going to be an amazing experience from everything I've heard about it, and I cannot wait to meet so many of you who I've only met online. It's also the last chance to get in on the special deal that started on Black Friday - there are only a few hours left!
This is probably the most personal episode I've done so far. I look back at what 2019 has been so far this year and talk about the things I'm grateful for as we get prepared for the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow, and why I do the things I do. I also talk about what I'm doing for you guys for my Black Friday special offer with a very limited bonus that you can grab if you do it quick! This is a good one - don't miss it!
For some reason, we expect that things should "just work" when we're getting started. That somehow the magical blog fairy will smile down on us and bless us with traffic. And we're surprised when we publish our stuff but the world doesn't come and start beating down our door for more content! The bottom line is that in most instances, the stuff you start with is going to suck. Sorry, not sorry. But it's the truth.
So instead of getting offended or discouraged, in today's episode, I'm going to give you the secret to overcoming your early content woes, and how to do it. (BTW - I say this in full acknowledgment that my first efforts sucked too, so I'm not playing favorites here!)
Do you remember that old T.V. show, The "A" Team? I know I'm dating myself here a little, but it was a great show! The colonel had a catch phrase that he loved to use when it was time for the bad guys to go down, "I love it when a plan comes together" and I have to say that's feeling I've got as I think about what's coming up to help YOU do business better online. So many good things coming and a new plan for putting all the pieces together is under way. You have to check this episode out!
If you don't control your platform you're putting yourself in serious danger. There are a variety of factors that are in play when you don't control the platform your blog is hosted on - some much worse than others. So if you're serious about blogging and you are serious about building a personal brand and scaling your blog to even greater heights, then you want to tune in to this episode so you can learn why it's so crucial to the survival of your online business that you are in control and build using the right tools!
Building and launching a new blog is exciting, isn't it?!? You start thinking about all the possibilities - the audience & community you can build, the ways you can help people with your story, and the things you teach along the way. It's definitely exciting. But sometimes new bloggers get focused on the wrong things and derail their progress, ending up discouraged and frustrated. There are a few things I've seen recently in questions that I've received and discussions I've been a part of that lead new bloggers down the wrong path to inevitable frustration. Avoid these things at all costs and focus on what I'm going to talk to you about in today's episode instead. You don't want to miss this one!
What does a well-designed, conversion-focused homepage that delivers value, and sets the hook to reel in your target customers look like? It's not quite as obvious as you may think, and it's a mistake that tons of businesses, entrepreneurs, and even corporations make with their websites. There is a secret that's so obvious that even the smartest people miss it. This episode talks about what that secret is, and how it can make all the difference for your website - between just being another site out there, and one that is a conversion machine!
I got a question the other day that i wanted to expand on because there is some confusion about the merits of the WordPress.com platform vs. the total freedom and flexibility that comes with a self-hosted WordPress website. Sometimes it's a control thing. Sometimes it's a tech thing. But in virtually all situations one is better than the other and there is a good reason why it's the industry standard for blogging pros, entrepreneurs and creators. And the concern you have just may not be a tech issue it all - it could be a marketing problem! That's what I'm talking about in this episode of Adventures in Digital Marketing.

When it comes to making progress toward your success in the digital marketing world there are few more valuable attributes than persistence and refinement. Because we're all learning new things - things that are keys to success - sometimes it takes a while to get it right. In this episode I'm talking about what I'm learning about building my Facebook group, my email list and how I'm pushing through to make progress toward meeting my goals.
When it comes to learning new stuff, stretching your creative muscles, and doing new things sometimes you run in to stuff and say "yeah, I'm not going to do that." I know I have. Way too often. You have to check this one out!
One of the biggest challenges when it comes to getting started is figuring out all the stuff you need to get done to launch. Russell Brunson talks about a concept he learned that he described as "find the 'who' not the 'how'" when it comes to getting stuff done for your funnel. In this episode, I talk about what that concept actually means, and what I've done to use it in my business even on a tight budget. You don't want to miss this one.
So, The Ultimate WordPress Blueprint is now available, and you can get a copy completely free! Yea, that's what I'm talking about here, but I'm also talking about my fears about this rollout. What if it flops? What am I missing? What can I do to fix it? These are all the things going through my mind today as I start promoting this book, hoping to help a TON of people with their WordPress sites, and hoping to start generating some revenue for my business. So this episode talks about both - how excited I am, and how scared I am, at the same time.
Everyone knows that being able to find someone you can pay to help you get stuff done speeds up everything. But what do you do when your budget is screaming and you just can't pull the trigger to pay someone to do it? You roll up your sleeves and do it yourself. It's what I've been doing for a long time, but I've also been able to leverage my team to do some of the work and in this episode I talk about how all works.
I'm rolling out a new funnel for my new book "The Ultimate WordPress Blueprint" soon. The first funnel I built needed work. It was working - all my benchmark numbers were within range of what they should have been. But it was what digging deeper in to those numbers that I learned some valuable lessons about where I needed to work on my funnel, and ultimately lead me to create this book. The lessons I learned by reading between the lines of what my Facebook ad spend was telling me that helped me gain a ton of clarity for what I needed to do with my next funnel, and that's what I'm talking about in this episode.
Why do some website quotes cost so much? What should you do when you see someone offering a low-ball price on a custom project? When it comes to getting quotes for a custom website design project you can get all kinds of different numbers. But what are the main factors that drive those prices? Today I'm going to cover the two biggest factors that drive the cost of custom website design and why they're important.
I've been working on a printed version of my WordPress course for a while now. I never knew how much went in to creating a book, and I'm sure I'm still only scratching the surface! I finally received my proof copy of version 1 of the book and it's ready to go. In this episode I'm talking about the book and what went in to creating it.
Sometimes you just have to get stuff done. Sometimes it's just a matter of creating something, putting it out there, and not obsessing over what others are going to think. So that's what I'm talking about in this episode. I tell you the story behind why I got started creating content for YouTube, and how it relates to this podcast. That's what I'm covering in this episode and I'd love to have you check out what I'm working on there.

You don't know what you don't know, and it can be hard to know where to turn to get help. This episode gets personal - all these frustrations and what I do to get through it when it hits me is what I'm talking about here.

Yea, I thought so too, so that's what I'm covering this week on the Adventures In Digital Marketing Podcast. Today's episode talks about what's covered during Week 0 or, "Belief Week". This week is foundational for the work that's coming up over the next several weeks and you don't want to miss it.
The One Funnel Away Challenge is has been a huge help to me in my business. There is so much good training and information here, and the best thing about it is that it can take you from the very beginning, with no product, and no ideas, to a fully completed funnel that's live and earning money in 30 days. I'm recommending it to everyone, and especially to new online entrepreneurs and in this episode, I'm covering all the reasons why.
I remember my dad telling me that "If it was easy, everyone would be doing it." And another nugget of wisdom I got from him, was "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." It's the same thing I'm trying to teach my daughter. And it's something I remind myself about all the time. Grant Cardone did an amazing job of describing the right mindset in his book, "Be Obsessed or Be Average" and I'm talking about how I'm applying that principle to my work.
When you're working on a website design, trying to figure out features and functionality, there is a big challenge to keep the focus on the right things. Learning styles are different for different people. Some people like words and prose. Some prefer audio. Some are hands-on and the first thing they do when they get a new gadget is throw out the owner's manual and start to try to figure things out. The goal for this book is to help broaden how I can reach people to help empower them to build their own self-hosted WordPress sites. But there's always a story right? So in this episode I wanted to dig a little deeper into why I'm creating this book.

I read a book several years ago that claimed to possess the secret to getting absolutely anything you want. The "secret" was simple enough in concept, and even though the book wasn't that revolutionary sometimes it's those things that are clear and plain as day that make the biggest difference and that’s what I’m talking about in this episode.
In this episode I talk about how a conversation with a client I couldn’t help lead me to create new solutions
The number one, biggest thing I see clients struggle with on their web design & development project is getting their content created. Because creating and crafting high-quality content is really freaking hard. Today's episode covers what I've created to help aspiring website creators and online entrepreneurs solve their content problems.
I’ve decided - at least for now - to call this podcast Adventures in Digital Marketing. This episode talks about how I first learned about real world examples of people doing business online and saw the theoretical stuff I’d been learning about in the real world.
This first episode is all about how I got started with digital marketing and why I did it. My plan is to document my digital marketing test and experiments and tell you all about what’s working and what’s not working along with the tools and tips I use.
