The Citizen of New Jerusalem Podcast: Recent Episodes

Adam Kane

Are we really going to let thousands of years of Western culture and civilization go up in smoke? The treasures of the past are being replaced by a plastic, consumer-driven world. A lot of us are tired of modern life—the pace, the expectations on all of us, the insane politics, the confusing religious landscape, the degrading entertainment industry, and the overwhelming mess of information available every second at our fingertips. And many of us are asking, Where did we go wrong? Can we ever get back to a simpler way of life? Who can show us any good? What’s the essence of true spirituality, and can we have it in our individual lives? What will the world be like for our grandchildren, and great-grandchildren? I’m just one guy, but I’ve got to try to face the real dangers and wonders of our world, and to speak hope into the malaise. Will you join me?

The dude I had on for this episode has a jolly laugh because he knows we win, even if we lose for a while. This was recorded in late January 2021 - it's interesting to listen to now, and to compare what we said with what's happened since.

We talk about some of the tough issues we're dealing with. Retreat from the cities, politics, eschatology, and just a dash of bashing Big Eva.

The Biden regime, the left can't meme, localism, survival in a collapsing Global American Empire, and a slew of other goodies from one of Reformed roughneck Twitter's best commentators.

Come, listen, be blessed, and be renewed in your mindset. We are going to win in history, because Jesus wins in history. Don't be too shaken by the whirlwind around us.

Recently, a pastor in Rochester, NY posted a screed on Facebook accusing the brave Canadian pastors who stood against C-19 measures of "act[ing] foolishly." The pastor who posted it is an older, experienced man who had been in ministry for many years, and was Adam's pastor for nearly six years.

The words he used were inexcusable, his charge utterly rancorous, and the implications end up being that men like James Coates and Artur Pawlowski have not been faithful to their duties. These men have stood up in the face of impending tyranny, which since Pastor Ferguson's Facebook post has only become more obvious and brazen.

I will not go into a detailed defense or history of what has gone on in Alberta and throughout Canada, or how these men have bravely decided to refuse compliance. I will rather focus on this screed on Facebook, and the man I know, who sadly wrote it.

Let his calloused cruelty to his brothers be a warning to all of us: great learning and experience in ministry is no guarantee of sound judgment, even late in life. We are all susceptible to launching attacks for our own justification, which is what I suspect happened here. Beware your own heart.

If you've never seen the several modern Star Trek series from the '80s and '90s, look up "the Borg" and then read the rest of this. Their famous line is "we are Borg, you will be assimilated, resistance is futile." Even though the producers and writers of ST are well-known progressives and atheists, they told the truth about themselves and their empty worldview. The Borg are the incarnation of the spirit of the modern world. Powerful, assimilating every culture it contacts, creating a dull, gray sameness in every place it has colonized.

But it is the realm of mind and spirit where the real tragedy lands. Those who are assimilated (am I now talking about the Borg or modernistic progressivism?) lose their ability to think for themselves. A powerful hive collective mentality takes hold. The spirit of the individual is snuffed. The Borg receive cranial implants that regulate the individual's thoughts. The progressive hive mind creates spiritual implants and slavery through the lures of satisfaction, fulfillment, and happiness if we will simply identify with the collective, praise its glories, and submit to its ends.

And in this episode, Adam brings along a traveling companion to offer our resistance. It begins a little off key, but we straightened up and flew right. Hope you enjoy it and find something rich to remember.

What is the mission of the Christian man? Are we to simply focus on the teaching of Bible passages, work toward personal holiness, and go about doing works of charity? Or does the Bible direct and energize us toward a greater scope of mission, to include a drive toward influencing and creating culture?

And really, isn't it both, in harmony?

We get confused about how we are supposed to live our lives as Christians, as Christian men in particular. It may seem that to seek to gain power, influence, and wealth are at odds with our religion. After all, Jesus said

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matt 6:19-21).

Did He mean that to save money or accumulate cultural power is a useless exercise in "the love of money," and therefore an evil thing?

Or is Jesus' focus more narrow, on the idolatry of wealth? The rest of Scripture speaks positively of those who pass on an inheritance to their descendants.

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children,
but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous (Prov 13:22).

Theonomy! The women shriek and faint, the children hide under their covers (along with a good many grown men), the stouthearted shut the doors and draw the shades. The term conjures fears of stonings of naughty children, and austere clerics running a cowed society devoid of freedoms.

Christians are promised "the full assurance of understanding" in Christ, "in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

The Roman Catholic, however, is forced to deny full assurance of understanding, based on his embrace of an erroneous epistemology centered on the pope, rather than Christ.

When we ask the Roman Catholic "where is Christ speaking authoritatively," he must answer uncertainly, for the Bible is an uncertain volume given his understanding of free will and revelation.

This is where the Reformed doctrine of grace, and of revelation clarify and align with the teaching of the apostles, and where Roman Catholics are welcomed, enjoined, urged to inspect and correct the areas of misunderstanding that have accreted to their doctrine.

In love, respect, and brotherly spirit, here is Adam's friendly word of challenge to his Roman Catholic brothers and sisters.

The Roman Catholic Church continues to burn hot and tall in front of the watching world. There is a civil war within her between the progressives, who are oddly and grotesquely defending homosexual and pederast priests, seemingly out of a desire to not cede ground to traditionalists. The trads are fighting to return the Church to her roots and foundational traditions and morals.

And we Calvinists and other outsiders look on with wonder. We look on with horror and hope, thinking perhaps some of the chaos will be eye opening to the faithful. Maybe, perhaps, perchance the Lord our God is at work to call His people out of the unclean thing, and to be separate. Not separate from the Church, but repenting from attachment and dependence upon a decayed shell of what the medieval Church used to be before the renewal of the Reformation.

Am I being too bold and perhaps rude? Only if souls aren't at stake. Listen in, you be the judge, and tell me your feedback here.

The Roman Catholic Church and its sex scandals. What a heading, huh? As of this writing, the RCC is embroiled in a new round of worldwide sex scandals in its priesthood. The institutional hierarchy of the RCC is being implicated from bottom to top in a long series of crimes and sins that threaten the faith and very survival of the visible witness to the resurrection of Christ. I stand by that assessment.

In this episode, I give my long view of the RCC from my own experience, trying to clearly lay out the confusions I have in trying to nail down what its claims are, and then how these scandals bear upon those claims.

I invite all sincere RCs to respond to this episode here or on Twitter. Your voice is needed at this time - what do you think, and what should we all think? Western civilization is burning, and the biggest, most visible form of Christianity has a full-blown house fire in the middle of it all.

Pastor Jonathan Fisk's new book Echo: Unbroken Truth Worth Repeating Again has hit the market, and you need a copy. Fisk has seen the glazed-over eyes of one too many Christians as the truths we hold dear are repeated week in and week out.

This book will act as an electrical shock to your fading Christian heartbeat, or if you are on fire for the Lord, this will be a shot of high-octane gas on your flames. Whatever your place in the Church, you can use a reminder, a wake-up call, no... a call to worship like Echo.

Join Adam and Jonathan for a little theology pick-me-up.

From Concordia Publishing House's website:

Christianity is not the ability to memorize or recite from books of Scripture or doctrine. It is not magic. It is not social club, counseling group, or self-help support group. It does not promise that you will be healthy, wealthy, wise, or even happy.

Christianity is a truth—a truth first heard at the beginning of time that has echoed to this present age. A truth so profound that no man can master it, yet even a child can learn it.

Jonathan Fisk introduces his readers to that truth. He lays it out as simply as a child counts to ten on his fingers. Yet, training to hear the Echo, the reader will come to understand the wisdom that Fisk imparts is bottomless.

Fisk teaches nothing less than the distilled, unbreakable Christian Echo, the very thing which has radically changed humanity in every nation and tongue that it has ever been repeated. It the most astoundingly complete description of what life is and why it is worth living. And it’s worth repeating. Again.

Paganism is replacing Christianity in the Western world. But it's not one simple brand: we face an onslaught from many directions.

With the Church on the decline in all its forms, and with people looking everywhere else for answers, very old forms of thinking and worship are making new inroads where Christendom once stood firm.

Politics, education, media, government, religion--whatever institutions we count on to be there, functioning for our benefit--Paganism is making a resurgence in all of them.

It sickens me. Peter Jones, at the 2010 Ligonier Conference (yes, I was way off in the episode), lays the gauntlet for Christians who are tempted to compromise with Pagan ideas. You may be surprised by some of what Jones puts his finger on--it may hit close to home for some of us.

A real sloppy show this time, but hey! You got a show!

In the last show, Adam tackled the question of what happens in baptism. Using Scripture and Church history, we saw that there is a consensus that there is real activity on God's part in baptism--something more is happening than just a human step of obedience. However else we define that, we need to begin there.

And on today's show, we examine, albeit not in great detail, the Reformed answer to the question For whom is baptism? A minor presentation of the defense of infant baptism, this episode will hopefully draw thinking Christians together, rather than to cast apart. Adam maintains that the Bible may be interpreted either toward a credo or a paedo view of baptism; both are strong in Scripture depending on other hermeneutical presumptions. At the very least, we seek to offer the doctrine of baptism as a hope to a dying world. Baptism includes people in the Church of Christ Jesus, where He does His saving work, and so to offer it to a dying world, indeed to a dying Western civilization, is a step in the right direction.

Let's talk biblical baptism!

World War I was the end of Christian Europe, and we have been watching her slow demise ever since. In his eulogy for Europe and the West, Peter Hitchens lays out the causes of death and the dim future.

This is what it sounds like to have a realistic, fatherly love for the West. We cannot paint a rosy picture of a future we have created by our own demotic lust. And yes, I said demotic. Look it up if you don't know what that means.

Now, I'm not going to say I agree with Mr. Hitchens point for point. The idea here is to hear the eloquent diagnosis of a dying civilization.

On this episode, Shane and Adam attempt to iron out a few of the biblical details, and to set straight some of the misunderstandings that are keeping brothers and sisters on separate sides of this battle.

Adam truly does not believe we are all saying different things. We are justified once for all by grace alone, through faith alone, which is a gift of the sovereign, electing love and favor of God alone. There is no more condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. Our standing with our Father in heaven is fully secure in Christ, by Christ, and because of Christ alone.

And because of this gratuitous justification, we are also sanctified by grace alone through faith alone, and yet, in the mystery of God's will at work in ours, we live lives of pursuing holiness when we have the Holy Spirit. There is no other kind of Christian life than to be doing good works in faith. These works do not justify us before God, but by these works we will be judged and rewarded. In this sense, good works are necessary for our completed, final salvation.

That... is Reformed orthodoxy, and therefore, biblical orthodoxy, my dear friends.

Following up on Episode 40, Adam here presents another, more careful look at fundamentalism in America. Which form of Christianity will be the foundation of a good civilization in the future? Fundamentalism has a lot going for it, but what are it's main weaknesses? Last week Pastor Matt Fletcher joined Adam to give a personal perspective on the movement, but this week we bring you a session recording of Phil Johnson  from Grace to You ministries. (Obviously Phil was not a guest of CoNJP, which is why this one doesn't have a full episode number of its own). This episode should fill in some more information that perhaps Matt and Adam didn't cover last episode, especially concerning the stated goals of fundamentalism, in general. For a little bonus, you can listen to Dr. James White here characterizing the fundamentalist mindset. Dr. White is one of the leading voices in Christian apologetics in the world, and so his perspective here may add dimension to the issue. The clip lasts for a short while. Thanks for listening.

In this episode, Pastor Matt Fletcher joins Adam to talk through an overview of independent, Bible Baptist fundamentalism. What might seem to offer concrete answers and certainty turns out to be a weak, gospel-poor, recent movement. We think you will agree after hearing this show--fundamentalism is not accomplishing the goals with which it began 120 years ago, but has in many cases become a sect on the verge of cult status. Is the movement redeemable? Help Adam make more episodes of the Citizen of New Jerusalem! If each listener gave $5.00 per month only, this show would be in the black, and Adam could convince his wife it's still a good idea to spend the time doing it :-) Click here to make a one-time donation, and here to become a monthly supporter. President Trump last week announced the US would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and that the State Department would be directed to move our embassy to Jerusalem. The prophecy wing of the evangelical family has predictably jumped up to declare this a sign of the approaching end of the world, but is it that simple? Are these types of events to be interpreted as fulfilling biblical prophecy? Listen in to what Adam thinks, in line with the Reformed and Lutheran view of history and prophecy.

Are we or are we not saved through faith alone? The Desiring God website published an article earlier this week using a tweet saying "You're not saved through faith alone. Be killing your sin." For Desiring God (the ministry of John Piper) to put out a title like that in the month of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation is to have dropped a match in gasoline. For this episode, we welcome Pastor Matthew Fletcher of Webster Bible Church, Adam's own pastor. This in-studio discussion was our attempt to fairly and charitably represent the best of both sides in this debate, and to search the Scriptures for keys to understanding what it all means. To everyone else, we in the Reformed world probably look like hair-splitting lunatics as we debate this vital doctrine. But to those of us who know that Western civilization depends on a healthy, vibrant Reformation Church, questions of soteriology are nothing to ignore or brush aside. The issue of how we are saved is the heart and soul of the Reformation, both 500 years ago, and today. If we lose the Reformation distinctives of the 5 Solas, we lose the whole gospel from the churches... So these things are indescribably important. Tune in! This show needs a few dollars from each of you to keep afloat! We are running on about half of what we need to make this thing last for a long time. Please consider becoming a monthly donor at Adam's patreon page, or dropping a one-time show of support at our donate page. It really means everything for this show to have the funds to keep Adam working hard in the studio. Thank you all for your listenership and encouragement!

Do you know why we're Protestant? Can you explain to your family, friends, and to unbelievers what happened in Germany in 1517, and what it means in Western civilization in 2017? Too many Christians (both Roman Catholic and Protestant) have no idea what the Reformation was and is about! What does it mean to be Protestant, and does it still matter? Pastor Nate Pickowicz recently published Why We're Protestant: An Introduction to the Five Solas of the Reformation. In this episode Nate helps me explore and explain the differences between Rome and Reformation, and why the differences still matter. This interview lays plain why we maintain the protest of Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin, and why our very salvation depends on it. Both living popes have recently given statements on the Reformation which may seem to indicate a moving together of Rome and Reformation, but have things truly changed between us? Are we able to unify? During the show, Adam reads those quotes to get Nate's responses. Justification, sanctification, faith, good works, and grace—we touch on all of these and beyond. Enjoy this Reformation conversation! Be sure to review the Westminster Confession of Faith on Justification (Chapter XI), which Adam reads in part during the show. This episode is not meant to provoke anger in our Roman Catholic friends, but rather to spark honest dialogue about how we are still very much in disagreement over the heart of the Reformation protest. Here's a great review of the book by Joshua Mills at the Sovereign Grace Alone blog. Please support this show with a donation of any amount; I can't do this work without your support, and trust me, there are few who are willing to give to a micro podcast like this one! 500 years of gospel life! It's the 500th anniversary of the Reformation! The month of October 2017 marks five centuries since the gospel rose from the ashes and rubble of medieval Christianity. And we have much to celebrate. While there are many problems in the churches, too many to number, there is one irrefutable reality in our midst: the gospel has not expired from the earth, now 2,000 years into the Church age. We live! In spite of all Satan's ploys, we live in Christ! The Church has not been defeated, nor shall she be. Though the forces against us are mighty, the gospel within us is greater, by the Spirit of Christ Himself! Tune in this next month for episodes surrounding our Reformation heritage. For today, listen to Adam talk about our great God and His gospel. Give your feedback here, and please support the show here. Want racial justice in the church in America? Many high-profile black evangelicals have joined a rising collective voice pouring condemnation upon all white evangelicals for racism. The election of Donald Trump as POTUS seems to have leveled a heavy blow to racial unity in the American church, and the bleeding seems to be gaining volume. Dr. Anthony Bradley, Thabiti Anyabwile, Jemar Tisby, Tyler Burns, Christena Cleveland are a few of the black Christian leaders who regularly denounce white racism, not on an individual level as something each of us may be guilty of; no, to these folks, your light skin means you are a participant in the oppression of people of color in America... ...unless I'm totally misunderstanding, which is possible. On this episode, I read out several of these people's statements on white racism in evangelicalism. You listen, you tell me. Am I right that this is a Marxist play going on in our midst? If white racism is endemic, then black Marxism is too. How about we drop both of the blanket labels and talk as individuals? The following tweets are a small sample of what I see all day every day: white Christians are a part of the problem, and must be confronted using Marxist categories of class strife. https://twitter.com/CSCleve/status/902648115618091010 https://twitter.com/Burns23/status/897499105332666369 If you appreciate what we do here at the Citizen, give a bit of financial support to let us know. Featuring the soft gospel heart of Pastor Richard P. Baxter, Moordown Baptist Church in Bournemouth, England, this episode is a bit of a change of pace from recent shows. Pastor Baxter provides a view from across the Atlantic, from a church and a region where peoples from all nations are welcomed and becoming a part of the national fabric. This is the sound of a man who is confident in the gospel, and in the Lord who weaves together people from every tribe to be His own new humanity in the church. Adam wanted a British voice added to the mix on race and ethnicity, and Richard was no disappointment. This episode will hopefully bring you encouragement and a reminder of the goodness of hospitality in the church. Will you please consider even a small show of financial support to this show? You may have heard of kinism, which is a doctrinal movement within (mostly) Reformed circles. Kinists believe that intermarriage is unnatural and sinful, and that every people group should live separated from other ethnic groups. In other words, it's a racialist movement that claims justification from Scripture. This calls for a Christian response. On today's show, Adam co-hosts with Tony-Allen Cucolo from designofprovidence.blogspot.com - Tony has done his research on kinism, so his knowledge brings a needed tone of expertise to this discussion. You can find Tony on Twitter here. Thanks for tuning in to this series on race. Be sure to catch all the other episodes going back to episode 25, The One about Race. Can a Christian and an Atheist have a cordial dialogue about religion, worldview, and hot political issues? Probably not normally, but Dan and Adam are superhuman! Well no, but seriously we gave it our best shot - here's an in-studio dialogue about our two different worldviews, and how we might apply the atheist hypothesis to the issues of race. I did my best to be fair and welcoming to my guest. Our goal was to seek as much neighborly common ground as we could find without necessarily jamming into a debate. I wanted to make my case that atheism necessitates a type of non-moral human society wherein racism makes perfect sense. Dan later wrote to me to reply to this contention (which he heard raised by Jonathan Fisk in episode 29). Here's his message:

"Just listened to the podcast with Rev Fisk. I think I'm just starting to understand your approach to race. I hope that in our discussion I provided some diversity of opinion from a secular / progressive / left / liberal perspective. Although I don't call myself a social justice warrior, I think they have some legitimate concerns even as I share some of your complaints about a certain dogmatic approach to radical egalitarianism. But let me offer a response to a question posed by Mr. Fisk, “If Christ is not being preached as being risen from the dead, what reason do you have for not being a racist?” Because cooperation is a critically important adaptation for human survival. If you consider racism as an irrational antagonism toward those that are different, then it clearly hinders cooperation between groups. This may not be the reason that you reject racism, but I'm grateful that you do."

So there you have it. We continue to try to understand each other's worldview, and hopefully set an example for the audience in how two men of very different beliefs might converse and explore for the truth. There is much more to be said between Christian and Atheist camps, and perhaps Dan and I will have that opportunity. If you enjoyed this show, please donate, leave feedback, and review us at the podcast service you use (iTunes, Google Play, or whatever). Thanks, Adam

At least two people are dead and many injured in Charlottesville, Virginia after a white identitarian rally and leftist protesters clashed in the streets. Is this another example of the problem of white racism in America, or is it more than that? Is the Progressive left the only left wing cause that showed up in Charlottesville, or are all identitarian movements inherently leftist, Modernist, and fatally flawed? Come along with Adam to ask the questions a different way, and to approach the answers with the wisdom from above. We shall not be led around by the nose by a Marxist, materialist society if we would just take hold of our heritage from above; if we would only utilize the birthright of our citizenship in the New Jerusalem, we might be able to speak prophetically to this chaotic, Marxist culture swirling around us. The problem isn't racism, it's idolatry. Can we start there? Tune in for more on this frustrating topic. We must face it and come up with better answers than the world is providing. Jonathan Fisk has been one of my favorite Christian worldview thinkers over the past five years, and I know many of you understand why I say that. His YouTube show Worldview Everlasting never takes itself too seriously, but always brings the full weight of the Christian religion: uncut, full-blooded, and cross-centered. So I knew I had to get him on the show to talk worldview; I knew we needed the Most Lutheran Man in the World® to help me navigate from theology to the Christian worldview on race. Jonathan is the author of Broken: 7 "Christian" Rules that Every Christian Ought to Break as Often as Possible, has published copiously on YouTube, is an on-air personality at KFUO St. Louis, and the host of the podcast RevFisk: Raw, among other things. How should Christians handle the issues surrounding ethnicity, race, and privilege in Western nations? The answers are complex and painful to trace out, but we have no choice--we must seek understanding and clarity. Kicking off our Citizen of New Jerusalem series on race, we present a lengthy conversation between two friends and fellow ministers of the gospel. Kaynenn Parker and Adam Kane belonged to the same local church for several years before Pastor Parker moved to Texas earlier this year. They ministered together to the youth of Webster Bible Church, and always enjoyed one another's company, insights, and contributions to the work of the ministry. You can see why Adam wanted to begin this series on race by having a conversation with Kaynenn. The ethnic difference between the two men is only secondary to the deep bond of Christian brotherhood created by the work of the Holy Spirit. Therefore as you listen to this episode, listen to the honest exchange of men who seek the good of the church and the nation. This is what it sounds like when brothers trust each other enough to ask tricky questions, and to give direct answers to aching questions. All too often American Christians seek to address racial reconciliation by sharing the assumptions of the Progressive, secular worldview. We have to do better than that. We must create a biblical basis for our questions and answers, and have the courage to speak words that may seem too raw and real to be heard in public. That's what this interview will bring to you. It's time to have a citizen's discourse on race and ethnicity. As citizens of the New Jerusalem, we have access to the wisdom that comes from above, but how do we apply it in one of the most difficult, professionally dangerous topics to broach? The racial discussion in the USA is out of control. The Progressive left has captured the terms and boundaries of the discourse, and are holding all of us hostage to their worldview. Do you feel free and unafraid to talk about race in church, at work, or with friends? I'll bet you don't, that is, unless you are a progressivist with cultural power to do so. Though the Christians of the world ought to be the tip of the spear in bringing sanity and clarity back into this debate, often we are led by the nose right behind the cultural Marxists who have set the terms for us... that is, set the terms of our surrender to their ugly, demonic worldview. Well, I'm not playing. The next several episodes of this show will focus on race and ethnicity from a Christian worldview. I've got some great guests and perspectives coming at you, and I hope you will be here to listen and respond. We all have work to do on race, in one way or another. Are you willing to bend?

Adam recently took a long road trip alone, during which he listened to the audiobook version of The Benedict Option. It was an earthquake for our host. In this episode Adam reflects on some of the strengths of the book without going into a detailed book review. Much of what Dreher presents in the book are the things Adam has been circling around in other episodes of this podcast. The idea here is that there is no political solution for the Western nations. At this point, we have gone past the time when we could have righted the ship of civilization on our own cleverness and ingenuity. What is the Christian's role in this changing, revolutionary time? Shall we eternally wring our hands at the secular world around us, or is it time to look within? We need to clean house, and by that we mean the churches of broad, historical orthodoxy. Christians must ready for the next 1,000 years through creative, private solutions to our rapidly deteriorating life of worship, work, and family. You can find Adam on Twitter here, or by contacting him here. The show will be slowing to one episode per week for the foreseeable future, as donations and patrons have not yet come alongside the show in an amount that would sustain the time and effort going into it for more than one show per week. No people group on earth has lived in their homeland quite as long as the Assyrians of northern Iraq. This small tribe has suffered millennia of persecution, but for the entire church age have embraced Jesus Christ as their Lord. But today, through the actions of Islamic purists running amok, the Assyrians are barely hanging onto their lives and land. Many have fled to other countries, and many have died. In this rich interview with Juliana Taimoorazy, herself an Assyrian Christian from Iran, we learn about the outlook for this forgotten people. Indeed, Juliana's life work is to make the Assyrian people unforgettable. Will you please take some time to learn who they are, and what they face? A listener asked Adam what's the best form of government/society. The question has to be answered by first discussing the underpinnings of goodness--how we have anything good in this world in the first place. Adam discusses two forms of grace, which together explain any form of order and survivability in a sinful world. The question actually opens up a world of discussion and variegated answers that must be handled slowly and with charity. So this episode is just a touch on the tip of the iceberg--a starter for the conversation. Thanks for listening. If pressed, I am a catholic, orthodox, Protestant evangelical. The capitalization of each of those descriptors is intentional and important - and each of us ought to aspire to the same self description. I think history demands each Christian on earth must be those four things, and I mean the best meaning of those four things. What is the relationship between Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Evangelical churches? Do we share a common faith? May we consider one another brothers and sisters in Christ? Is there any hope to understand Church history? We attempt to tackle all these questions and more. In this interview with the Department Chair of Theological Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary, the discussion ranges across time and earth, asking and answering questions that come with each new generation. Sometimes I tell my life story. One of my listeners (Allen Jerkins) asked, "Adam . . . I would be interested to hear how Christ arrested you." So here you will get a bit of it--a history of my spiritual development. Though I don't love the idea of making this show about the host, it really is a show about my views--I am the citizen of New Jerusalem after all! So perhaps this will be interesting to you. I skip a lot of details, but I land on the most important thing I could possibly say about my life. If you enjoy this show, support the little podcasting guy by donating at the website, offering feedback, and sharing with family and friends. I so appreciate every one of you who have been a part of this show so far.

What does it mean to be a traditionalist? In this conversation with Dean Abbott, Adam brings a variety of urgent topics to the surface. Has evangelical church culture been feminized? Why are young men so hard to get into church? And what about the alt-right? Should we be disheartened by the rise of these dissidents? What drives their antics? Are there Nazis hiding under your bed? And what about the Christian perspective on immigration? Dean and Adam take a shot at each of these topics, and more. Dean is a man's man--a husband and father, (as well as a fellow fan of Wendell Berry), he cares most about the life of the family, community, and those who work hard to build a working civilization. You can also find his recent conversation with Mark Baxter here. Dean's website is deanabbott.com, and you can find him on Twitter here. Thanks to him for an invigorating conversation.

What is America's role in Syria's 6-year-old civil war? Who are the moderate rebels that our government is funding? Who has been using poison gas bombs in Syria? Was Trump right to strike the Syrian government with tomahawk missiles earlier this month? Many evangelical Christians in the United States get their information about our Middle-Eastern involvements solely from main-stream sources--the same main-stream media that we otherwise do not trust to report accurate and honest news within our own nation. One example of this is Dr. Albert Mohler of The Briefing podcast. On his April 25, 2017 episode, Mohler recited news about Syria from corporate media sources which all support the US government's agenda in the Middle East. No comment was given to the credibility of the sources, rather, Mohler showed limitless credulity toward the media narrative. This man is an intellectual heavyweight who runs a large, successful seminary, but typical of American evangelical thinking, he gives full, unquestioning credence to the progressivist, globalist media who regularly lies and twists the truth in every other area of reporting. Can Christians do better than this? Is our government-media complex to be trusted whenever there is an urgent development in the world? This show ought to at least give us pause to consider another possibility. Kevork Almassian joins Adam for an in-depth interview from the perspective of a Syrian born and raised in Aleppo. Kevork is a Syrian political journalist based in Germany. He holds a bachelor degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, and is currently learning German to continue his MA in Political Science. He writes op-ed articles for several websites and newspapers, and he recently launched a YouTube channel called Syriana Analysis to give a close-up perspective of what's happening in Syria. You can find him on Twitter here. If you appreciate the Citizen of New Jerusalem, please consider visiting the show website to donate - Adam cannot continue this work without faithful financial supporters. Thank you all!

The new world of globalism is closing in on everyone. It's tentacles are particularly odious to those who wish to live traditional lives. What are we facing in regard to current clashes of culture and worldview? Is there hope to understand and overcome the enemies of the Christian traditions of the Western world? Michael Kinsella, PhD joins me to discuss the various challenges we face on either side of the Atlantic. We talk economics, church life, the survival of the family, and beyond. Michael teaches ethics in University College Dublin and is Director of Research at Aid to the Church in Need Ireland. You can see his academic profile at http://ucd.academia.edu/MichaelKinsella

Ever heard of the black pill? If you take the black pill, that means you've come to the conclusion that Western civilization is doomed, all goodness in the world is being defeated, and there is no future for humanity. The black pill is symbolic of hopelessness, and many days it sits right on our nightstands, tempting us to pop it before we get out of bed. Let's face it, the current world order is coming to an end. So many bad things are happening at once no one can keep up with it all. Communities of Christians in the Middle East who have lived and worshiped there for almost 2,000 years are being bombed and chased out of their homes, Europe is being overrun by the twin cancers of progressivism and Islam, and everywhere it seems a hero has come, he turns out to be a failure and a compromiser. Is there any hope? Spit out the black pill. Adam could've gone on for hours with this episode, but he kept it as short as possible given the huge scale of the topic. Take heart, listen in, and support the show if you appreciate content like this. From the show: Eastern Orthodox sing the Our Father in Aramaic (the language of Jesus that is still spoken by some Christians in the Middle East). Egypt Coptic churches bombed

Jesus Christ beat death. He was swallowed by it, but He forced it to open its mouth and vomit Him out - and He broke its teeth on the way out for all who trust in Him and repent of their sins. Adam reflects on a place he often thinks about when the chaos and complexity of this life threatens to upend his faith.

In this episode Adam makes his central belief as clear as possible. If he is right, then absolutely everything depends on this. If wrong, then LOL nothing matters. Challenge yourself, stretch your thinking with this episode. If God has spoken, is there any higher form of authority in existence? It's this foundation of truth and knowledge on which Adam will build all of his other episodes. Thanks for listening!

We have to take control of our thoughts by focusing on the center of reality. The digital sea of information, the news cycle, our own problems, emotions, hobbies, and schedules have us in mental crisis as a culture. We need to learn to control and reset our mental state. We need to meditate. Do you know how to meditate on the center of reality? In this show Adam gives some historical background of the Greek world. In that time, people scattered their thoughts across a spectrum of gods and divine beings who all brought different degrees of truth to humanity, but one writer blew all of that away by offering a singular point of spiritual contact between heaven and earth.
