August is a hot month for shark sightings. Last year the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy reported more than 63,000 detections in August, making it the month with the most detections. This past Tuesday there were 14 Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard shark sightings, with one being only 5-10 yards from the shore! Multiple beaches were temporarily such down as a result of the sightings. There to discuss shark behavior and migration patterns was Dr. Nick Whitney, Senior Scientist with the Fisheries Science Program at the New England Aquarium.
