The Ni Hao Ma Debate
What are your thoughts on this? Should we view someone greeting us Ni Hao Ma as language appreciation?
What makes you Pufferfish? - Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby who released critically acclaimed Nanette has returned with a new Netflix special called Douglas - In the show, she talks about what makes her instantly outraged, even at the mention of it. Some things that makes her blow up like a puffer fish are: paleo diets and people Americanised their language - What makes you pufferfish?
Making a show for white Australia - Big Brother returned for the first time in 6 years and the first 3 contestants eliminated from the show were people of colour - Fijian-Australian Laura was first to go, followed by ‘confident and loud’ Chinese Australian housemate Allan Liang and then Korean-Australian SooBong Hwang. - People of Colour contestants are chosen to be loud and have strong personalities whilst cauasian contestants are ‘everyday joes’ - Caucasian Examples: Zoe is a caring teacher and mum of 2, Ian loves nature and science, Chad is a hot tradie - PoC examples: Allan is the loud Asian guy who’s in it to win it. - Laura is pro-black, vegan and doesn’t care what people think - Angela (who is Kenyan) is unapologetic with strong opinions - Do you think that producers are casting PoC for entertainment value or for relability? Who’s the last Asian contestant in reality tv (excluding MasterChef) that you liked?
