GAME RULES:All Players Create a Character
1) Make a character. This is set during the Mandalorian time period. No force powers allowed.
2) Pick 5 “skills” these can be as specific or generic as you want them to be. Generic skills are more generally useful, but specific skills can give you a greater advantage in those specific situations.
Ex: Shooting vs Long Range Sniping Piloting vs Dogfighting Interceptors
3) You have 5 “plot points” to place in any combination of skills. You use these points to effect d6 rolls to succeed or fail at tasks Example of play: There’s a storm trooper running towards you! Dee elects to use his “shooting” skill. I say he needs to roll a 4 or better on a d6 to shoot the stormtrooper. Dee has 2 “Plot Points” he decides to spend both to add that number to his roll. He rolls a 3, but adds 2 for a total of 5! He shoots the stormtrooper. However. Let’s say he opted to us no “plot points” on his roll and rolled a 3 He failed the roll, but gains 3 “plot points” in shooting by learning from his mistake. Any skill may only have a maximum of 6 plot points at any time.
GAME MASTERING:
Before the game begins, the GM creates a list of various story beats that the players can/will encounter, as well as a cost for those items. Whenever a player spends a "Plot Point" the GM adds that point to one of the listed items or to a general pool to use later. When enough Plot Points have been spent by the players to fill a Story Beat, the GM can purchase it and immediately trigger it in the game. An example of below.
Stormtrooper Encounter (5)
Hull Breach (10)
Monster Sighting (2)
Monster Manipulation (8)
Abomination Attack (15)
It is up to the GM's discretion whether or not a player is "Killed" but the game is not designed to kill players. When an enemy attacks they roll a d6 with a number cap (Storm Troopers might have a 3 cap in shooting). Have a player make an opposing roll. They may spend plot points in a relevant skill if able to add to their defense roll. If they fail, the GM should give a temporary penalty to one of the Character's five skills.

Hello and welcome everyone to the first ever Jank Tank Open, kicking off on April 3rd! As a collaboration between both the Fly Better and Gold Squadron Podcasts, this online Extended X-Wing event is a single elimination tournament run on the Vassal platform. However, all players participating in the Jank Tank Open will be using randomly generated squad lists from Yet Another Squad Builder instead of building their own from scratch. Players will choose one of 2 randomized squads assigned to them to play in the tournament. The only permitted changes to the squad are one upgrade that may be removed, and one upgrade that may be added.
Both Gold Squadron and Fly Better are committed to making this a smooth and enjoyable online event. We understand that these are difficult times, and in the spirit of hopefulness, Gold Squadron and Fly Better will each donate $1 per Jank Tank Open participant to the charity of the winner’s choice. To those who are savvy enough to master their jank, other great prizes can be won as well.

Welcome to Mynock Flight Academy!
What is Flight Academy? Flight Academy is a monthly “back to basics” episode to help both fresh new recruits and grizzled veterans alike. For our newer players, Flight Academy acts as a foundational building block to learn the important fundamentals of X-Wing. For our more seasoned pros, think of this as a refresher course of various elements you may have forgotten, or skipped over in your own self-education of the game.
To make it easier to listen to past episodes, we’ll be giving these episodes their own number. It’s our intent that a year from now, new players will be able to listen to just these 12 episodes and feel that they have a good primer into how to elevate their game. The advice you’ll gain in these sessions should transcend metas and be useful regardless of what the current “powerhouse” is.
Today, we overview the templates and maneuvers, which are the most fundamental element of X-Wing.
This doubles as Mynock Podcast Episode 151.

It's been four months since Second Edition launched and the Mynocks are taking a look at where the game has settled. With a cargo hold full of data (some stolen from the Krayts), the group goes faction by faction to discuss what has been working so far. Why are the rebels struggling? Are only two ships in the Empire that good? Should the cost of Fenn Rau go up? All these questions are answered and more in this week's episode.

We proudly present to the X-wing community a new alternative format for the game we all love:
X-wing Objectives
In 2012 Fantasy Flight Games created the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game. Its strong and unique mechanics coupled with the power of childhood nostalgia has made it one the most popular miniatures game in the world. However, after 5 years and over 12 Waves worth of ships, the “Standard” competitive format has begun to show some weaknesses. The primary win condition for years was to destroy all of your opponent’s ships, but now with so many cards and combinations available there are more win conditions that make the game less enjoyable. These include having a single, expensive, and unkillable ship win when time is up or staying in your corner the entire game and winning on a Final Salvo tie breaker.
The X-Wing Objective Format was created by a large number of members from the X-Wing Community in a massive collaborative effort. Months of testing went into creating six objectives that have alternative win conditions. The hope was to eliminate some of the negative play experiences and get us back to the kinds of dogfights that leave us cheering and excited.
We also sought out to create a format that would not only appeal to casual players but also be viable as a tournament format.
Please download & print all the materials as needed and enjoy this new format. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
Enjoy!

Fantasy Flight Games held back a few choice snippets about Wave 9, such as maneuver dials and certain upgrade cards. However, they launched them into the wild with limited pre-release sales at GenCon, and we now know the precise contents of each ship in this wave. We break down the previously unknown details about the ARC-170, Mandalorian Concord Dawn Protectorate Fang Fighter, and Lancer-class Pursuit Craft.
To tantalize us even further, FFG also dropped the first Wave 10 preview, announcing Sabine's TIE Fighter (a Rebel hijacked TIE), the Upsilon-class Shuttle (Kylo Ren's whip), and the Quadjumper (the tugboat Rey wanted to grand theft instead of the Falcon). We discuss the revealed content, and attempt to decipher the mystery items from the preview photo and clues in the article. (Dee's eyes melted staring at a zoom enlarged copy of the photo.)
Finally, we fangasm at the new Rogue One trailer! We intend on tightening up moving forward, but this is a longer episode to deal with all of the news just dropped on us - enjoy!

The X-Wing community has been busy as of late preparing their very best squadrons for the heated competition known as Regionals. Hosts Ryan, Dee, and Dallas discuss the most recent regional tournaments and how different squads have fared.
Also, Dallas talks in detail about his Fresno victory and Ryan makes a BOLD proclamation about how his Regional may go. (Which by the time you're listening has already gone by.)

In a land filled with U-boats and saggy old Emperors, one man continues to fly what some consider the "purest" X-Wing squadron...the TIE Swarm. As per the Mynock creed, Dallas Parker [Texx] continues to stubbornly stick to his guns when it comes to his favorite archtype. As fate may have it, the "Crack Swarm" has vaulted to the top of the meta, and we have the man, the myth, the legend on to discuss it.
Also, we find out just how many snacks can fit in the NEW MILLENNIUM FALCON! That's right, Heroes of the Resistance has been announced and we are eager to share with you our thoughts on just how good it can be.

Have you ever dreamed of flying in one of the most elite ships in the entire Imperial Fleet? Do you want to K-Turn and still take actions? Do you want to fire an ion cannon THEN fire your primary? Do you want a FREE evade token for moving quickly through a dogfight?
Well then recruit, the TIE Defender might be for you! This week Ryan and Dee interview possibly the greatest Defender Pilot in the history of X-Wing...the legendary Biophysical. Yes this is the guy who was WINNING by running just Rexlar Brath and Colonel Vessary...pre Defender fix!
So paint on some blood stripes and buckle up, it's going to be one heck of a ride.

With the first batch of X-Wing Regionals in the bag, we examine successful squads.
The first half-dozen Regionals of 2016 are history, and the environment has been defined (albeit not conquered) by "U-boat" Contracted Scouts. In their meta-shaping wake, a variety of Imperial Aces contend with TIE Crack Swarms, tanky Rebels, and... A-Wing Swarms?
And just so we aren't COMPLETELY useful, we close by quibbling over rules and stirring the drama pot.
