Act ASAP is all about the basics of emergency action planning for natural disasters and emergencies. In 2022 the focus is on the number one preventable disaster, House Fires. And the leadership to carry us through the coming year of natural disasters and the ongoing COVID-19 experience.
I am not a professional geologist who studies earthquakes, I'm here to explore both the current status of earthquake events and how they remind us of the critical need for preparedness, all while shedding light on alocal sports team that shares the name with this natural phenomenon.
Earthquakes are not Distant Events:
Earthquakes, though often seen as distant events, are a part of daily life for many around the globe, including in the United States. Recent seismic activities, such as a 2.6 magnitude earthquake near Gilroy and a string of quakes in Southern California, highlight the unpredictability and widespread nature of these geological events.
Understanding Earthquakes:
Understanding earthquakes involves appreciating both their immediate impact and their potential to inform future geological research. For instance, novel research approaches like studying the geometric makeup of rockswhere earthquakes originate are enhancing predictive capabilities, potentially leading to more effective early-warning systems.
Be Aware:
In the spirit of preparation, it's crucial for individualsand communities to be aware of how to respond when an earthquake occurs. Simple steps like securing heavy furniture, preparing an emergency kit, and knowingsafe spots within buildings can save lives. Websites like the USGS provide valuable resources and real-time data to keep the public informed and prepared.
My Radar:
This screenshot from the My Radar app captured at 1830 today shows the recent earthquake activity within the last 12 hours, emphasizing the daily occurrence of these natural events. Initially, I downloaded My Radar during my tenure as a US Army Drill Sergeant with the goal of monitoring lightning strikes in real time. This critical awareness allowed us to swiftly relocate our troops to safety, thereby averting potential injuries or fatalities. I use a paid version that tracks Hurricanes. I am not a My Radaraffiliate and do not profit by mentioning their app.
San Jose Earthquakes:
Switching gears to a lighter note, the San Jose Earthquakes, our local Major League Soccer team, aptly named after this natural phenomenon, continues to bring excitement and community spirit to the Bay Area. The team's resilience and dynamic presence on the field reflect the broader community's approach to handling the challenges posed by actual earthquakes. Notableplayers like Troy Dayak, who started his career with the Clash before becoming a key player for the Earthquakes, symbolize this resilience.

I am not a professional life insurance statistician who closely studies death rates and causes, so I did some homework. Iâve got some eye-opening insights to share. Weâll explore age-related natural death causes compared to deaths caused by unintentional injuries, and why having adequate insurance or financial coverage is crucial for both scenarios. "Navigating the Battlefield of the Civilian Job Market:Understanding the Roadblocks Veterans Face"
In the grand tapestry of our nation's history, few threadsare as vibrant and solemn as the recognition of our military service members.
"Honoring the Sacrifices: The Deep Significance of Veterans Day" is more than a mere commemoration; it's a journey through the heart of what it means to stand in the ranks of those who've served. As we delve into the essence of military service recognition, we not only honor military veterans but also shed light on the profound impact of their sacrifices on our dailylives.
For many, Veterans Day might appear as a fleeting moment onthe calendar, marked by parades and speeches. However, its significance runs deeper, resonating through every fabric of our society. This blog post aims to unravel the layers of this importance, addressing the primary question: why do we dedicate a day to our veterans, and how does this recognition shape our collective consciousness? By exploring this topic, we aim to heighten Veteran Affairs awareness, offering insights into the unique experiences of our heroes in uniform and the enduring legacy they leave behind.
The Unique Skill Set of Veterans
The military instills unmatched leadership qualities anddiscipline. These skills are incredibly beneficial in any job setting, though often undervalued in the civilian workforce. Veterans are trained to adapt quickly to changing situationsâa skill highly relevant in today's fast-paced business world. Their experience in teamwork and collaborative problem-solving is also a significant asset.
Roadblocks in Civilian Job Market Entry
One of the biggest challenges veterans face is translatingtheir military skills to civilian job requirements. The unique military jargon and roles can create barriers in effectively communicating their competencies.
The shift from military to civilian life encompasses more than just a job change. It involves adapting to a new culture and social environment, which can be daunting for many veterans.
Bridging the Military-Civilian Divide
There's a significant gap in understanding between militarylife and civilian sectors. Employers often struggle to comprehend the full scope of a veteran's experience and skills. Various programs and initiatives are in place to help bridge this gap. They aim to educate employers about the value of hiring veterans and assist veterans in articulating their skills. https://www.military.com/hiring-veterans/resources/educate-your-company-on-veteran-hiring-and-retention.html
Financial Literacy and Career Planning
Financial literacy and career planning are essential tools for veterans. Understanding the financial aspects of career transition and planning strategically can ease the process significantly. Financial Literacy has only recently (since 2019), become an educational touch point for all branches of service. Since financial literacy is not taught in our public school system, this is a step in the right direction for the military community. But there are still millions of veterans lacking in this much needed tool. I am proud to be aligned with Money Mentor Vets and their continued educational processes to support the Veteran community with Financial Literacy:
https://www.moneymentor.org
https://moneymentorvets.com/
The Power of Networking and Mentorship
Mentorship, especially from fellow veterans who have successfully transitioned, can provide invaluable insights and guidance. Organizations such as AMVETS, The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans are valuable resources for networking with people who speak the same language and finding mentors who want to see our veterans succeed.

In a world overwhelmed by uncertainty, the pursuit of securityâboth physical and financialâbecomes the cornerstone of a resilient life. Today, we have a special guest whoâs on a mission to equip families and businesses with the tools they need to brave life's unpredictabilities. We're talking about the very essence of survival, so grab your notepads; this is a conversation you canât afford to miss!
Daniel Kilburn is not just any life coach or author; he's a retired U.S. Army Senior Infantry Drill Sergeant who's transformed years of frontline experience into a toolbox for everyday resilience. With expertise spanning disaster management, leadership, financial planning, and communications, Daniel is redefining what it means to be prepared.
His philosophy is both pragmatic and relatable: Whether youâre facing a hurricane or financial turbulence, the basic requirements for survival remain consistentâa roof over your head, food to eat, clean water, and yes, even proper sanitation. But here's where Daniel takes it a step further; he introduces the idea of "cost-effective preparedness." It's not about stacking 25-year shelf-life meals in your garage; it's about smart choicesâchoices that integrate seamlessly into your daily life and budget.
And don't underestimate the financial aspects of preparedness; Daniel revealed startling data indicating that 70% of Americans are financially unstable. It's not just about having an emergency stash of goods; it's about having an emergency stash of "cash," a financial cushion that could save you when the chips are down.
As we delve into todayâs conversation, remember that Daniel Kilburn isn't merely offering advice; he's providing a blueprint for resilience. Prepare to explore innovative, budget-friendly strategies for disaster management, learn about maintaining a financial emergency fund, and above all, get ready to change the way you approach the very concept of preparedness.
This isn't just an interview; it's a survival guide for the modern world.
So, without further ado, letâs welcome Daniel Kilburn. Prepare to embark on a transformative journey that blends the wisdom of experience with the practicality of everyday living. Trust us, by the end of this conversation, youâll not only feel more secure but also empowered to face life's inevitable challenges.
Stay tuned, and let's build resilience, one conversation at a time.

I Challenge You:
In a fast-paced world, where time seems to slip through our fingers like sand, there is one day that challenges us to pause for just ten seconds and make a difference in a child's life. National Be Someone Day, observed annually on July 21st, urges each of us to take a moment, a mere ten seconds, to be the person who can change a child's life for the better. On this day, we are presented with a unique opportunity to create a positive impact and foster a brighter future for our youth.
Make a Difference:
You might wonder, what can be done in just ten seconds? The truth is, much more than you might expect. Within that brief moment, we can shift gears, water a plant, hear or tell a joke, and even change our minds. Ten seconds is all it takes for us to notice the pain in someone's eyes and begin to offer them comfort and support. In those fleeting seconds, we can praise and honor those who deserve recognition, or make a life-altering decision.
Protect and Support:
The essence of National Be Someone Day lies in its mission to protect and support children by combating child abuse. Taking the pledge to report child abuse on this day is the key to safeguarding children's well-being. Project Be Someone, founded by Project Harmony, provides five essential steps to prepare us for this vital responsibility:
a) Learn the facts: Educate ourselves about child abuse and its signs.
b) Minimize opportunity: Work towards creating safer environments for children.
c) Talk about it: Encourage open conversations about child abuse and its prevention.
d) Know the signs: Recognize the red flags and warning signs of abuse.
e) React responsibly: Be ready to take appropriate action when a child reaches out for help.
By following these steps and taking the pledge to report child abuse, we become part of a powerful movement to end child abuse and create a better, safer world for our children.
Be an Angel:
National Be Someone Day is not just about reporting child abuse; it's about becoming the guardian angel every child needs. By taking the initiative to protect the innocent and vulnerable, we are embracing our responsibility as caring individuals. Imagine the impact of a collective effort, with each person committed to safeguarding children's well-being. The advantage is not just in making a difference in one child's life, but in shaping a society where children are cherished, protected, and nurtured to reach their fullest potential.
Act:
Now, on this National Be Someone Day, let us all come together and take the pledge to be someone who stands up for children. Share this message far and wide, so that more people join this meaningful cause. Take a few seconds to make a big difference in a child's life by being prepared to report child abuse if the need arises. Use the hashtag #BeSomeoneDay to join the conversation on social media and inspire others to do the same.
In Just 10 Seconds:
National Be Someone Day, observed annually on July 21st, offers us a precious opportunity to make a significant impact in a child's life by taking the pledge to report child abuse. In just ten seconds, we can become the voice of those who need it most. By learning the facts, minimizing opportunities for abuse, talking about it, knowing the signs, and reacting responsibly, we can collectively contribute to ending child abuse and building a brighter future for generations to come. Let us embrace the advantage this day provides and be someone who truly makes a difference in a child's life. Together, we can create a world where every child feels safe, loved, and cherished.

As the Northern Hemisphere grapples with an unprecedented heat wave, communities are experiencing soaring temperatures, devastating wildfires, and record-breaking heatwaves. From Greece's catastrophic wildfires to Europe's hottest temperatures in history, the impact of this scorching weather is being felt globally. Furthermore, China's record power consumption has led to increased coal burning, while Phoenix, Arizona, has shattered temperature records. In the face of these extreme conditions, it is crucial to recognize the signs of heat-related illnesses and adopt methods to stay hydrated and cool.

Staying Hydrated and Keeping Cool:
a. Drink plenty of fluids, even if you do not feel thirsty, and avoid alcoholic or caffeinated beverages.
b. Seek shade and stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
c. Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing.
d. Use fans, air conditioning, or cool showers to lower body temperature.
e. Check on vulnerable individuals, elderly, children, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce myself, I am Wave Warrior, the charismatic and courageous Lifeguard Extraordinaire and proud member of the esteemed Safety Squad!
With my exceptional skills and captivating charisma, You can count on me to ensure that every beach day is filled with joy and peace of mind.
Because Wave Warrior is here, ready to make your beach experience unforgettable and, most importantly, safe!
Today is National Bikini Day! It's a day to celebrate the beach and all of the fun that comes with it, just like me. Bikinis are usually for grown-ups, but kids need cute and safe swimsuits too.
Swimming is fun and healthy for people of all ages, especially kids. But swimming can be dangerous. That's why lifeguards like me are here to make sure kids are safe. The color of swimsuits matters! Bright colored swimsuits are better for children than darker ones because they help the lifeguard see them better.
Visibility Matters
It is important to wear brightly colored swimsuits. This helps lifeguards and parents find children quickly in the water. Even a few seconds can make a big difference if someone is in danger.
Here are my recommendations for swimsuit colors to buy, and those to avoid:
Lets start with, Neon Green: This color is not only trendy, but it also stands out brightly against the blue of the water.
Vibrant Pink: A favorite among many kids and is easily visible both in and out of the water.
Bright Yellow: Mimicking the sun, bright yellow is a go-to for visibility..
Electric Orange: This color doesnât fade into the background â itâs easily spotted and fun too.
Colors to Avoid:
Navy Blue: Although popular, this color can easily blend into the water, reducing visibility.
Black: While stylish, black is one of the most challenging colors to spot in the water.
Dark Green: This color tends to disappear against seaweed or under the shadows of trees near lakes or rivers.
I need to get back to my perch and watch out for your safety.
So remember, it is important for us to stay safe when swimming. Wear bright colored swimsuits like yellow, pink, and neon green so that lifeguards and grown-ups can easily spot you. Also, donât drink the water, take bathroom breaks and please, don't poop or pee in the water, and always put on sunscreen to protect your skin.
Let's celebrate National Bikini Day by looking at brightly colored swimsuits for kids, making it fun and safe! Remember, safety is the most important thing!

"Fire Safety with Blaze: Preventing Fires and Saving the Day!"
"Hey there, heroes! It's Blaze, the fearless Firefighter Extraordinaire, ready to tackle any blaze and keep everyone safe. I'm part of the Safety Squad, always on the lookout for fire hazards and using my expertise to prevent fires from starting. With my firefighting techniques and fire prevention skills, I provide fire safety and prevention.
Imagine sliding down the slide at the Axle City Garage with me, Dr. Lifesaver, Rescue Ranger, my pal Embers and the gang. We're all having a blast and doing cool tricks. We're not just adventurers, we're safety enthusiasts too!
As the Firefighter Extraordinaire, it is my job to make sure everyone is safe on 4th of July. Fireworks are fun but can be dangerous. In 2022, 11,500 people got hurt and nine people died from fireworks in the US [1]. Most injuries were to hands, fingers, head, face, ears, legs, eyes and arms [3]. We can stay safe if we follow the safety rules.
Firework Safety:
The best way to enjoy fireworks is to go to a show put on by experts. They know what they are doing so it will be safe.
Make sure that fireworks are legal where you are before using them. Check the laws in your area first so you don't get in trouble.
Don't let kids use or light fireworks, including sparklers - even sparklers can get too hot and hurt someone! An adult should always be watching when kids use sparklers.
Light fireworks one at a time and stay back. After you light them, move away quickly. Don't try to relight any fireworks that don't work - put them in water and throw them away. Soak used fireworks in water before throwing them away so they won't start fires. Have water nearby in case of accidents or fires. Do not use fireworks when drunk or on drugs because it is unsafe.
Instead of using fireworks, try other things to celebrate. Some ideas are glow sticks, confetti poppers, or colored streamers. These are safer and can be used even if fireworks aren't allowed in your area.
Keeping Pets Safe:
Fireworks can make pets feel scared. To keep them safe, keep them inside during firework shows. Close the windows and curtains and turn on the TV or radio to help cover up the noise. Give your pet toys and treats to help them stay calm.
My time is up and I do need to go:
The 4th of July is a time for being together and having fun. Fireworks are part of this celebration. But we need to be safe. We must follow the safety rules so that no one gets hurt. Let's have a great time, celebrate the holiday responsibly, and look out for each other too!
I look forward to introducing you to Stormy and the Safety Squad.
Till next time. Stay Informed and Stay Safe.

From classic chocolate to creative blends of ingredients like vanilla and caramel, there's a fudge flavor for everyone.
But wait, there's more! Did you know that fudge comes with health benefits, too? While it's definitely not a health food, dark chocolate (which is often used in fudge recipes) contains antioxidants that can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems. In fact, dark chocolate has been linked to benefits like lowering cholesterol levels and preventing cognitive decline, so it's really a win-win [1].
Now, let's talk nutrition. Fudge is high in carbs and calories, but it does have a relatively low glycemic index, which means it won't cause a blood sugar spike. Plus, it contains minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, and copper [2]. However, don't go thinking it's a health food - fudge should definitely be enjoyed in moderation as a treat, not a meal replacement.
When it comes to enjoying fudge, the key is portion control. It's calorie-dense, so be mindful of how much you eat. But don't feel guilty about treating yourself to a small piece every so often - life is short, and fudge is delicious!
In conclusion, fudge is an amazing indulgence with a sensory experience that's hard to beat. You can feel good about enjoying it in moderation, knowing it contains some potential health benefits and a few essential minerals. So go ahead, take a bite of that luscious fudge and enjoy the moment of pure bliss it brings!

âCommemorating the US Army Birthday and National Flag Day"
Introduction:
June 14th holds special significance for Americans as it marks the dual celebration of the US Army Birthday and National Flag Day. These two occasions intertwine the threads of history, valor, and patriotism that are deeply woven into the fabric of the United States. As we commemorate these milestones, it is important to reflect on the enduring legacy of the US Army and the symbolism behind our nation's flag.
The Birth of the US Army:
The Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army on June 14, 1775, giving rise to what would later become the United States Army. A journey that would determine the course of a country began with the appointment of General George Washington as the commander in chief. The Continental Army faced many difficulties during the Revolutionary War, but it was crucial to securing America's independence [1].
The US Army's Role in History:
Throughout history, the US Army has consistently stood up for freedom and upheld American values both domestically and abroad. The brave men and women of the Army have shown unwavering dedication, courage, and sacrifice in service to their country throughout the Civil War, World War II, Cold War and War on Terror [1].
National Flag Day and the Stars and Stripes:
The US Army Birthday falls on June 14th, which is National Flag Day. The Stars and Stripes were adopted as the country's official flag in 1777, and this day honors that day. The pattern of the flag, depicts the original thirteen colonies with 13 alternating red and white stripes and a blue field with white stars representing the states, has come to represent American unity, tenacity, and freedom for all time [2].
The Significance of the National Flag:
For Americans, the national flag is extremely important because it inspires pride and patriotism. It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless people throughout history to uphold and defend the values and ideals on which the country was founded. [3].
The US Army and the National Flag:
The principles of liberty and justice are deeply embraced by both the US Army and the national flag. In every significant conflict, soldiers have fought for the flag, upholding its values and defending the interests of the country [3]. The flag has always been a constant companion for Army soldiers, providing them with motivation, cohesion, and resolve, whether they are firmly planted on foreign soil or draped over the caskets of fallen heroes.
Conclusion:
Finally, the US Army Birthday and National Flag Day offer a chance to reflect on the country's rich history and unwavering patriotism. It's critical to keep in mind the countless men and women who proudly served in the US Army and gave their all for their country as we remember these occasions. [1][2].
What's more, the national flag is a potent representation of freedom, resilience, and unity. It stands for America's steadfast spirit and the historical sacrifices made to uphold the values that gave rise to the country [3]. Soldiers fight under the flag in every significant conflict and uphold the values it stands for, demonstrating their deep commitment to the principles of liberty and justice.

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Daniel Kilburn, your trusted EAP Broadcast System news anchor. As wildfires continue to rage across Canada, it's crucial to prioritize the health and safety of ourselves and our loved ones. Today, we'll discuss some important measures to protect our eyes and respiratory systems from wildfire smoke. Remember, what happens there can affect us here.
Here's a comprehensive list of recommendations:
Stay informed: Keep track of local news and official updates on the wildfire situation. Stay tuned to weather forecasts and air quality reports to plan your activities accordingly. I recommend the My Radar App for your phone to get real-time wildfire and air quality information. https://myradar.com/
Limit exposure: Whenever possible, reduce your exposure to wildfire smoke by staying indoors. Close windows and doors to prevent smoke from entering your home or workplace. If possible, set your home heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) system to recirculate, preventing outside air from being drawn into the house. If you are driving your car, set your air system to recirculate also.
Use air purifiers: Consider using high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters or air purifiers at home. These devices help remove fine particles from the air, including smoke particles. https://amzn.to/43VnCKm
Create a clean room: If the air quality deteriorates significantly, designate a specific room in your house as a clean room. Seal the room as best as you can to minimize smoke infiltration and use a portable air purifier in that area.
Avoid outdoor activities: When smoke levels are high, it's advisable to limit or avoid outdoor activities, especially strenuous exercise. If you must go outside, try to do so when air quality is relatively better, such as early morning or late evening.
Wear a mask: When venturing outdoors in smoky conditions, wear a properly fitted N95, N99, or P100 respirator mask. These masks are designed to filter out fine particles, including those present in wildfire smoke. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper use. https://amzn.to/43QBC8m
Keep eye protection: Protect your eyes from smoke irritation by wearing wraparound sunglasses or goggles. This can help shield your eyes from smoke particles and reduce eye irritation. https://amzn.to/3J7NOJZ
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your respiratory system hydrated. Hydration helps soothe the airways and minimize the effects of smoke irritation.
Maintain indoor air quality: Avoid activities that introduce pollutants into your indoor air, such as smoking, burning candles, or using gas appliances without proper ventilation. These can exacerbate the impact of wildfire smoke.
Consult a healthcare professional: If you experience severe symptoms like difficulty breathing, chest pain, or persistent coughing, seek medical attention promptly. Individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions or other health issues should be particularly cautious and follow their healthcare provider's guidance.
Remember, everyone's health situation is unique, and these recommendations may not be suitable for everyone. It's important to consult with healthcare professionals for personalized advice, especially for vulnerable individuals such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions.

20030602 Atlantic Hurricane Season
The Atlantic 2023 hurricane season started yesterday, June 1, 2023. Experts predict a near-normal hurricane season. Depending on who youâre talking to we are looking at somewhere between 12 and 17 named storms 5 to 9 hurricanes 1 to 4 of them being above category three. Apparently, this is the new normal.
Already we have a tropical storm Arlene in the Gulf of Mexico moving her way toward Western Cuba.

According to Scientific American more than 3 million Americans adults were displaced in 2022 because of natural disasters. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/disasters-displaced-more-than-3-million-americans-in-2022/
This is around 1.4 percent of the US Adult population; this number does not include the number of children displaced at the same time. Now for those of us who were not displaced this might seem like a marginal statistic. Only 1.4% of the population. But for those who were displaced and their children it was significant.
It is better to be prepared and not need to use the plan, than it is to need a plan and not have one.

National Love Your Children Day is a special day to remind us of the love and care we owe to our little ones. As parents or caregivers, our primary responsibility is to keep them safe and secure, especially in emergencies and disasters. The thought of our children being in danger can be overwhelming and frightening, but we can take steps to ensure their safety. We must ensure that our homes have emergency supplies, such as first aid kits, flashlights, and emergency food and water.
We should also teach our children about emergency preparedness so they know what to do in an emergency. In case of a disaster, it is important to have a plan and practice it with our children so they know what to do in case we are not there to direct them. Let us take a moment to appreciate our children and do everything we can to keep them safe and healthy.
National Love Our Children Day, on the first Saturday in April, focuses on raising awareness of child abuse during National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Many may think about physical violence or neglect when it comes to child abuse. Still, it can also come from parental apathy, complacency, ignorance, and failure to act. Essentially, not doing anything can actually harm a child. This can mean not giving enough attention or care to a child's needs, not knowing the right way to raise a child, or even being unprepared for emergencies or seeking medical help for a sick child. These actions, or lack thereof, can have serious long-term consequences on a child's development and well-being. So, for parents, it's important to be aware of your actions and take responsibility for ensuring your child's safety, health, and welfare- even if that means stepping out of your comfort zone sometimes.
Today, letâs celebrate the love and affection we have for our children and to reaffirm our commitment to their well-being. While we should love and cherish our children daily, this day reminds us of the importance of prioritizing our children's safety and happiness.
As parents or caregivers, we are responsible for protecting our children from emergencies and disasters. We can't always control what happens in the world, but we can take steps to ensure that our children are safe and secure and they are prepared to act when we are not there to act for them. Here are a few tips on how to prepare for emergencies and disasters and keep your children safe:
It's important to have a plan in place for emergencies. This includes having an emergency kit with essential items like food, water, medication, and first aid supplies. It's also important to have a plan for evacuating your home or seeking shelter in case of a natural disaster.
Keeping current on news and weather alerts can help you stay ahead of potential emergencies. Make sure you have access to reliable sources of information, and don't be afraid to ask for help or advice when you need it.
It's a good idea to practice safety drills with your children so they know what to do in case of an emergency. This includes fire drills, earthquake drills, and tornado drills.
Educating your children about safety is an ongoing process. Teach them to stay safe in different situations, such as crossing the street or riding a bike. Encourage them to speak up if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
Being a parent or caregiver can be stressful, and it's important to take care of your own mental health. This includes getting enough sleep, eating well, and coping with stress.
In conclusion, as we celebrate National Love Your Children Day, remember the importance of keeping our children safe and secure. Let us take responsibility for their well-being and prepare for emergencies and disasters. By doing so, we can ensure that our children grow up healthy, happy, and confident in knowing they are loved and protected.

Unplug & Reconnect With Nature - Taking time away from technology is one way to help break free from the distractions that come with it. Going outside for a walk or just sitting in nature can give you much-needed perspective on life and help you find a sense of calm.
Take Time for Self-Care - Taking care of yourself is an important step in staying connected with your own needs and feelings. Make sure to take time each day to do something that makes you feel good, whether itâs taking a hot bath, reading a book, or simply going for a walk
Find Your Passion - Finding something you are passionate about can be the key to feeling connected with your life. Pursuing activities or hobbies that bring joy will motivate you to stay focused on your goals and dreams rather than succumbing to distractions.
Reach Out For Help - If you struggle with feelings of depression and disconnection, donât hesitate to reach out for help. Whether itâs talking to a family member or friend, seeing a therapist, or joining a support group, plenty of resources can help you through this difficult time.
No matter how disconnected you may feel right now, know that it is possible to overcome these struggles and reconnect with yourself and your surroundings. Taking the steps listed above can help give you the strength and motivation needed to find your way back. Good luck!
In conclusion, the dangers of social media addiction are real. While there are many underlying components that contribute to mental health disorders, addiction to social media can be an active contributing factor. The best way to break the cycle is by setting limits on screen time and learning how to interact with content in a healthier and more meaningful way.
Moreover, face-to-face interaction and human connection cannot be replaced. True fulfillment comes from providing ourselves with real moments where we are present in the moment and not just observing it through our digital lenses. So set realistic goals for yourself, practice mindfulness, find healthy outlets for stress relief, such as yoga or reading a book instead of mindlessly scrolling on your phone, and surround yourself with people who bring out the best version of you. As long as you focus on being mindful and empowering yourself with self-worth, true happiness will follow soon after.
So if youâre looking for ways to unplug, stay present in the moment, and enjoy life offline, register for our Digital Distraction Workshop now! With me here by your side, you can take back control of your life!

Today, Turkey experienced two devastating earthquakes, with reports of widespread damage and multiple casualties. This tragedy serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for earthquakes.
Earthquakes are one of the most unpredictable and destructive natural disasters, striking without warning and causing massive destruction in their wake. To minimize the impact of an earthquake, individuals, families, and communities must take steps to prepare for this type of disaster.
Preparation is key when it comes to earthquakes. It is important to have a plan in place in case of an earthquake, including knowing what to do during and after an earthquake. This can include developing an emergency plan, preparing an emergency kit, and knowing how to evacuate buildings and seek shelter safely.
One of the most important steps in preparing for an earthquake is to secure heavy furniture and appliances, such as bookcases and televisions, to prevent them from falling during an earthquake. This can also include securing your home by installing seismic straps and earthquake valves on gas lines.
Additionally, individuals should also educate themselves about the types of earthquakes that are most likely to occur in their area and understand the potential dangers of aftershocks. This knowledge can help individuals make informed decisions about the best ways to protect themselves and their families during and after an earthquake.
Did you know there are four distinct categories of earthquakes? Tectonic quakes shake the earth's crust due to geological forces. Volcanic temblors occur in connection with volcanic activity, while collapse quakes take place underground during mining operations or cave-ins. Finally, explosion earthquakes come from nuclear and/or chemical explosions!
https://www.un-spider.org/category/disaster-type/earthquake
You may not realize it, but living in the Pacific Northwest comes with its own seismic surprises. From shallow fault quakes to deep earthquakes that occur beneath a subducting ocean slab - they can all be Big Ones! The longest of the three types are likely those monstrously powerful Subduction zone earthquakes which have been known to last several minutes at their peak strength. Better keep your earthquake kits stocked and ready for action, just in case!
https://www.burkemuseum.org/static/earthquakes/bigone/threekinds.html
The terms "types" and "kinds" of earthquakes are sometimes used interchangeably, but they can refer to different aspects of earthquakes.
In conclusion, today's earthquake in Turkey serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of preparing for earthquakes. By taking the necessary steps to prepare, individuals, families, and communities can reduce the impact of an earthquake and ensure their safety and well-being in the event of a disaster. So, let's all commit to earthquake preparedness, and protect our children, ourselves, and our communities from the devastating effects of this natural disaster."

National Parents Leadership Month
National Parents Leadership Month is a time to recognize and celebrate parents' vital role in shaping their children's and their communities' futures. Observed annually in February, this month is an opportunity for parents to reflect on their leadership skills and engage in activities that help them become better leaders in their families and communities.
Parent Leadership
One of the key ways that parents can become better leaders is by staying informed about the latest developments in education and child development. This includes staying up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in parenting and engaging in ongoing professional development opportunities.
Opportunities
In addition to individual efforts, National Parents Leadership Month also provides an opportunity for communities to come together and support one another in their efforts to become better leaders. This can include hosting parent-teacher association meetings, organizing community service projects, and engaging in other collaborative efforts that promote positive outcomes for families and communities.
Lead By Example
Parents lead by example. There are dozens of parenting handbooks available, but our children are not an IKEA bookcase to be filled with someone elseâs ideas. Our children learn by the example set by their peers and approved by their parents. Often, this is a co-dependent relationship that can be positive or negative. Seeking help with parenting is a common and normal step for many parents. It is important to recognize that parenting can be challenging, and seeking support is a sign of strength and a commitment to providing the best possible care for one's children.

Are we distracted?
Our daily lives have become dominated by the eight-hour workday, leaving little time for family, hobbies, or self-care. In reality, many of us are only doing five to six hours' worth of actual work - spending precious extra minutes and hours on pointless meetings or succumbing to distractions like our pinging phones. Not only is this wreaking havoc with workersâ well-being, but businesses too could be losing out big time; a recent study conducted by Udemy found that employees feel unfulfilled in their jobs yet don't know what else they can do!
Stretching Our Brain
In the analog days, stretching our brains to their limit was hard enough. But fast forward to today's digital world, and it feels as if you're racing a Formula One car on a dirt road! We must develop strategies that help us focus on one task at a time (instead of frantically multitasking) or resist distraction. As a result, our productivity, accuracy, and quality suffer because switching from job to job can quickly deplete our mental energy reserves.
Are Our Brains Healthy
With all the data we're presented with daily, our brains must work hard to keep up! But putting in that extra effort can be taxing - it's like squeezing an orange until nothing remains. Our neurons send fatigue signals when they've been overworked from having to differentiate between trivia and crucial information, and we ignore them. In addition, we may need to realize how much of what we see online or hear from others is competing for resources; whether mundane life choices or deeper moral issues, things take more energy than we think to process correctly.
Is It That Bad?
With so much work, our attention span is shorter than ever, and itâs no surprise that analysts have reached the same conclusion: distraction, at its worst, can cost us a significant amount of time and productivity. For example, McKinsey & Co. estimated that 28% of high-skilled workers' hours are eaten up by emails alone! And we still need to begin tackling issues like social media distractions...
Trained Responses
We can't deny it; the design of social media has us hooked! From needing to answer a text or email instantly to checking Twitter updates compulsively - we've been conditioned by persuasive design. To break free from its grip and train ourselves to focus intently again requires effortful practice every day.
Is There A Solution
If you frequently find yourself easily distracted, it may be time to consider some mitigation strategies. You control your level of distraction, and there are many things you can do to improve the situation. Please register for our upcoming workshop on digital distractions to learn more about how to manage this issue in your life.

Davos Switzerland, 2023 World Economic Forum (WEF) is declaring a worldwide catastrophic event within the next two years.
Worldwide catastrophic event
Hey there! Daniel here with some news on emergency action planning. It looks like this past week had winter storms that were rough in the Northeast but starting to slow down out West - we can expect these kinds of things during winter, right? There's a story coming from Davos about an ominous declaration made at the World Economic Forum. Apparently, they think something catastrophic is going to happen soon... could be within just two years or so! It sounds alarming and I'm sure everyone will keep their eyes peeled for updates.
A Catastrophic Mutating Event.
A looming disaster is poised to hit the world two years from now. It's not just a regular attack, it's something far more sinister than that â a major cyber-attack! We've been hearing whispers about this for some time as bad actors have begun plotting against us in order to take our hard-earned money and cause destruction where ever they can. So let's be prepared for anything because who knows what these fiends are capable of?
Ripple Effect
Russia's cyber-attack in Ukraine had a ripple effect that caused other parts of Europe to lose power, too. In many cases, an initial event can have multiple impacts - think about earthquakes: not only does the ground break beneath your house, but also massive damage is done to infrastructure, like disabling the electricity grids.
Cyber-Attack Leaders
It looks like China and the United States have been dominating primary events, but with a savvy tech-wiz running interference, an attack can originate from someplace else. Data collected from IP addresses might be showing one thing â however, what's really going on could even come as a surprise!
Cyber Attack Origin â by Country
With the US and China at the top of many headlines, it's easy to overlook Russia. But they're very active in cyber-attacks â enough so that sometimes it seems like they could pull off some false flag operations! Of course, we can't know for sure what's happening behind closed doorsâthat would require an investigative journey someone else can take.
Nostradamus
We've seen it repeatedly - someone predicts the future, but people don't believe them because they can't fully verify what's being said. Take global warming, for instance: many were skeptical about its realness until reality hit us all in the face! Well, it's here, folks. We can't do anything about it. So be aware of changes that could come our way; think twice before dismissing something you haven't personally verified yet.
Security Measures
Cyber security should never be taken for granted. Despite the complacent and apathetic attitudes of some, we all need to stay vigilant when using our computers, phones or any device that can access information online, as it's easy for cyber-attacks to spread quickly if even one wrong button is pressed. Taking simple precautions such as regular updates, strong passwords and being aware of suspicious links could save you from becoming another victim!
Stay informed and stay safe - these are traditional words but never more relevant than today!

ypocrites, is the world full of them?
So what is a hypocrite? Hypocrites are easy to spot. Theyâre the ones who set their eyes on one thing, only looking away when it comes time for them to judge you â or someone else! These people have got some double standard going thatâs just confusing as all get out because there isnât any logic behind what they do.
Now in some ways, this is natural. We all apply different standards to different people based on our upbringing, education, financial status, or whatever we want to call it. Sometimes is right, and sometimes wrong.
I am pondering this concept because of several conversations I have had recently. As you know, my vision is to protect our children from the emergencies and disasters that will come into their lives. My mission is to prepare the family so they can protect themselves.
For the longest time, FEMA has been conducting the National Household Survey on Disaster Preparedness. And for many years, it has hovered between 30 to 40% of the population who has done anything to prepare themselves and their family for emergencies.
The 2022 national household survey states that of the respondents, 45% of the adults are prepared for disaster. This is a self-assessed questionnaire. Generally speaking, this means that we are better prepared than we were last year and better prepared than we were the year before.
One thing I find very interesting here is that of the people I have personally surveyed, that number is much lower. And looking at the actual data in the survey demonstrates that the vast majority of respondents have a plan (41%) but have done very little to actualize the plan.
Go here to see the data yourself: https://community.fema.gov/PreparednessConnect/s/article/Results-from-the-2022-National-Household-Survey-on-Disaster-Preparedness.
The conversations I had with people earlier this week revolved around fearmongering. How people, in general, will refuse to do something unless it scares them so bad and the chance of losing something is so dire that they feel like they need to take action to prevent it. Many purveyors and people in the disaster management industry are just like that. They are fearmongers who will tell you how bad the world will be and how bad life will be. So buy their knife and defend yourself from the zombie hoard, or you need to buy their backpacks so you can hike out of town and go Into the wilderness to protect yourself. Neither option is valid or usable under most circumstances. Amazon Ring is a very good example of fearmongering for profit.
In my conversations, I was offered the opportunity to embrace my controlling fearmonger for fun and profit. And I cannot do that. There is a way to prepare without fear, a way to teach our children in a fun, enlightening, and educational way. By embracing communications and resiliency, we are developing the leaders of tomorrow.

We all face challenges, both external and internal. But the truth is - at our core, most of these obstacles are created by ourselves in one way or another! Could it be that you're scared of risking failure? Or feeling like you aren't worth achieving your goals? It's time to be honest about what might be standing between you and success. Once identified, those barriers can start to crumble away... giving us space for a brighter future ahead!
Multitasking
Multitasking might seem like a great way to get thingâs done quickly, but it's not really feasible. The human brain just isn't made for multitasking and trying to do two or more complex tasks at once is going to result in lost productivity - so stick with one task per go! That said, focusing on completing the single thing you're doing can help you finish faster overall.
Distractions
From cats begging for cuddles, to notifications blowing up your phone and even just dealing with the perfect temperature of your workspace - distractions can be everywhere! But don't fret; a little planning ahead is all it takes to keep those obstacle from distracting you on the path towards success.
Instant Gratification
Instant gratification may be tempting, but it's rarely the best choice. Taking time to put in consistent effort can lead to drastic improvements down the line - a perfect example of this being something as simple as walking regularly. It won't seem like anything now, but that discipline over 10 or 20 years could have tremendous benefits for your health!
Negative Thoughts and Impulses
It's easy to become overwhelmed with negative thoughts and impulses that can lead us down a path of bad decisions. The best way to combat this situation is by finding out if any unresolved trauma or contradicting beliefs may be lurking in the shadows, stopping you from moving forward positively.
Temptation and Excuses
We all know how it goes - you have the best of intentions and then temptation strikes, irresistible. Before you know it, excuses are around every corner to keep you from achieving your goals! Staying disciplined is a challenge but if we can learn to avoid temptations altogether instead of just relying on willpower alone that will surely help us succeed.
Lack of Control
It's impossible to have absolute control over our lives, but we do have complete power when it comes to how respond. Learning how cope with situations outside of your control is key; take a deep breath and focus on what you can manage - yourself!
To identify and conquer the obstacles that stand in our way, it's important to set realistic goals and craft an action plan accordingly. Believing we can make progress despite what life throws at us is half the battle; then showing up consistently with enthusiasm carries us closer toward success every day!
Feeling overwhelmed and like you can't seem to get ahead?

Friday Findings Winter Storm Preparations
Before winter approaches, make sure you have made preparations:
Winter storms can be dangerous; storms in December have already proved this. Winter is just getting started, and January storms are on the way. So it's essential to prepare in advance.
Consider warm clothing and layers to help protect you from cold temperatures and potential frostbite, and have enough clothing, hats, mittens, and blankets or sleeping bags for everyone in the house.
Have alternative heating sources like a fireplace, wood-burning stove, or space heater. Use caution, as these can cause carbon monoxide poisoning if misused; remember to ventilate.
Stock up on drinking water and non-perishable food items that don't need to be cooked and ensure water pipes are insulated in case of a power outage.
Have flashlights and a battery-powered radio ready for any power outages, and make sure your cell phones are charged or invest in battery-operated chargers.
Finally, plan out warm places, such as friends' homes and community shelters, where you can stay warm if needed.
Stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Build an emergency supply kit for your car: first aid kit, jumper cables, full tank of gas, cell phone, and cell phone charger, shovel, ice scraper, snow brush, sand/cat litter, warm clothing & blanket, water and snacks, tire chains, tow rope, and flares.

Ah, grateful, that wonderful feeling of appreciation and thankfulness for everything we have in our lives. Having gratitude is a crucial part of everyday lifeâespecially when it comes to family. This post is dedicated to reflecting on the magic of being grateful for not only what we have but also who we have in our lives â those special people with whom relationships are forged out of love and understanding shared moments, compassion, tears, fears, and laughter!
As a stoic realist, I know I have more days behind me than I have in front of me. And every morning, I wake up with a deep sense of gratitude. It's not just for the simple things, like my health and well-being, but for every single experience that has brought me to where I am today. From the people I've met along the way to the opportunities and risks I have taken - all these dots have connected in ways that make me who I am today; a 67-year-old man full of joy and optimism.
I remember back when everything was uncertain, and it felt like life had thrown me turdballs at every turn. But looking back now, those challenging times were actually blessings in disguise as they taught me so much about myself, how resilient I can be and how strong my will is if push comes to shove. When faced with failure or mistakes, I kept pushing forward because giving up wasn't an option for me; something inside of me knew that better days were coming no matter what happened next.
And sure enough, here we are! Every day is precious nowadays since it allows us to appreciate all of our successes (big or small), reflect on our journey thus far and celebrate even more milestones ahead in life!
I remember the day I decided to start this journey like it was yesterday. I had spent days contemplating what I wanted to do with my life and how I could make a difference in the world. After some serious soul-searching, I finally knew what path to take â creating content that would inspire others and bring joy into their lives.
So today, if you are reading this â then thank you! Thank you for being part of this journey with me, for taking the time out of your day to read/watch/listen to what I have shared over these past few months - it means so much more than words can express! Whether you've been here since the beginning or just recently joined â your presence has made all the difference in keeping me motivated every single day
And now, as we embark on yet another magical year ahead together - know that nothing ever stops us when we put our minds (and hearts) towards achieving greatness.
We are just getting started!
P.S. Start the new year with a plan of action. Stay tuned for the upcoming Scheduling and Planning workshop.

This is a reading of a chapter I wrote for  The Book of Influence to be published early in 2023.
Feedback is appreciated.
To bring valuable information to you. I have come across a documentary, "Died Suddenly," which is a deeply disturbing film about the intentional depopulation of the world using COVID-19 vaccines. I highly suggest that you take the time to watch it.
Warning
This documentary is not suitable for children.
Emergency Action Planning is presenting this documentary for your entertainment and information.
A shocking new documentary, "Died Suddenly," paints a chilling picture of our global future. It seems the Globalists are orchestrating what could be the greatest die-off in all recorded history! This disturbing information implies that politicians, media corporations, and fear-mongers have been complicit in depopulating humanity for their own gain. Even more disheartening to consider? Evidence suggests authorities knew about climate change fifty years ago but did nothing then - or now â to stop its potentially catastrophic effects on us all. I suggest you take some time out of your day and watch this alarming film ASAP.
Here's the link https://rumble.com/v1wac7i-world-premier-died-suddenly.html
If this is not true: The documentary is disturbing because it does prove that there are those who do lie to us for their own gain. But we already knew that.

Trust and verify. Do not believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.
It is more important than ever to make our voices heard and take action. Our world has changed drastically in the past 50 years - not just due to global warming but also because of population growth. The documentary proves that those in power have known about this impending crisis for decades, yet did nothing preventative until now.
We stand at a tipping point with water shortages threatening massive crop failures and even starvation! These events could severely impact California's food supply and hydroelectric production if they are left unchecked.
https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/05/us/california-rural-groundwater-crisis-climate/index.html
If there was any time to stand up and prepare for these events, it is now. Take action and plan for the emergencies and disasters that will come into the lives of your children. Let us join together before itâs too late, so future generations don't suffer from such devastating consequences!

Leadership is a contact sport. Being vulnerable is one of the ways to win.
If you've ever been at the front of a team effort or leadership position, you know it takes strength and courage to step up and take responsibility. At the same time, though, having a successful leader also means being comfortable with vulnerability. All leaders need to open themselves up and be vulnerable if they want their teams to trust them â something which may not always come naturally. In this blog post, we'll discuss why effective leaders must embrace vulnerability as part of their leadership mindset. Understanding how important it is for both yourself and your team that you expose some vulnerabilities while still staying confident enough in yourself to lead can make all the difference between success and failure!
As a leader, we often carry the burden of perfection. For decades, in my distinguished service as a Combat Infantryman, US Army Senior Drill Sergeant, and Instructor at the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy, this meant shouldering insurmountable responsibility and admitting to needing support was not an option. But in our current climate of economic hardship brought on by COVID-19, true leadership must include understanding that even leaders need help from peers and professionals if needed - be sure it's coming from trustworthy sources! We cannot afford for any further costs to pay for being too proud or trying to go at it alone.
The last two years of COVID have taken a toll on the world economically, socially, and emotionally. Moving forward into 2023, as true leaders in family, business, or the public sector, we must recognize our need for support. Reach out to your peers, family, and friends. If needed, find professional support. Sadly, we must also be cautious with whom we are vulnerable because it may harm us.

0221104 Tip of the Day Candle Fire Safety The holidays are on us like a 10-year-old riding a sled on a snowy day.
Winter is a time for fireside gatherings, warm drinks, and cozy candles.
Todays Candles Candles have come a long way since their initial use as a source of light. While they are no longer used as a major light source, they continue to grow in popularity and use. -Never leave a candle burning unattended,
-The temperature of the hottest part of the flame is about 1,400 °C (2,550 °F)
-Place candles on stable surfaces where they can't be knocked over.
-Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before burning. Long wicks can cause fires.
-Burn candles in well-ventilated areas.
-Keep candles at least 12 inches away from anything that can burn.

20221014 Tip of the Day Time Distance Shielding 2
Our friends at business insider have decided to launch an article to train the simulated effects of nuclear attacks against specific cities in the continental United States.
Iâm curious to understand what business insider a global technology, finance, market, media, and healthcare publication is reporting the effects of possible nuclear attacks against major metropolitan US cities and how it promotes their image. I will note that this article is an updated article from 2019.
https://www.businessinsider.com/how-nuclear-attack-would-destroy-us-cities-2019-12
This is an opportunity to restate the three cardinal rules for radiation protection: time, distance, and shielding.
One thing to keep in mind is that the time distance and shielding options relate to an after-the-fact explosion of a nuclear atomic weapon.
Time distance and shielding will decrease individual exposure to radiation.
· Time - limiting your exposure time reduces the dose of radiation received. And over time, the intensity of radiation decreases based on its half-life.
· Distance - the farther away you are from a radiation source the dose of radiation received is decreased.
· Shielding - placing something between you and the radiation source prevents it from penetrating your body. Lead, concrete, or water provides this type of protection.
For general purposes and disaster management, the time distance and shielding rule does apply to many other types of disasters.
Time, donât be there at the same time as the event. This can be accomplished when we can see it coming. If by chance we get caught up in a disaster or emergency there are often secondary and try Terry that will happen after. it time comes into play here when you want to remove yourself from the location of the secondary events
Distance and time somewhere dovetail together when it comes to basic or generalized natural disasters by not being there at the time it happens you are also distancing yourself from the event. Having an evacuation plan
Evacuation can be the best option.
Shielding depends on the nature of the disaster. Shielding yourself by placing something between you and it will offer some form of protection.
For example, a fire blanket to prevent yourself from being burned waterproofing a building with sandbags and mylar to prevent water intrusion.
Breakproof windows or a specialty film placed over your window can provide protection from high-speed proje
Use your imagination to define other forms of shielding that you can use to protect yourself from natural disasters.
In review. Time the less time you are exposed to a radiological event or not being at a location at a particular time will be better for you.
Distance, being distant from the radiological event and or the natural disaster will be more beneficial for you.
Shielding having some form of shielding between you and the radiological event for the natural disaster will be beneficial for you.
Now I know youâve heard me say many times a truly do in the deepest part of my heart hope that nobody ever has to face any of these types of events. And historically it has been proven that at some point we will.
Take the opportunity now to review your emergency action plan to protect yourself your family and your loved ones.
The next time.
Be safe

Tampa Bay is now under a Hurricane Warning. A hurricane watch has been issued for the Big Bend area of Florida. The expected landfall of Hurricane Ian is later this week. Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for much of Southwest FL, and Tropical Storm Watches are in effect from Orlando to the central/northern East Coast (Fort Pierce to Jacksonville).
Hurricane Ian is a dangerous storm that could cause significant damage to families and communities in the coming days. Extremely high winds are expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning, along with rain or storm surge flooding when it approaches Florida's Gulf Coast later this week.
The American Red Cross has already started preparation for response missions on assets such as sheltering people against danger during these storms; giving them food if needed because many will be left stranded without electricity too - which means they'll lack not only water but also basic amenities like blankets warmth clothes first aid kits etc.; relieving their suffering until emergency services arrive at your location.
Evacuate as soon as possible
Suppose you are in the area of impact. Take precautions; if evacuation is necessary now before roads are congested. Based on the current projected path, northern evacuation routes appear riskier if leaving is delayed.
If you remain in an evacuation zone and need assistance. You cannot call for help. No one will come if you live in areas A or B for mandatory evacuation. If you live in a mobile home or evacuation Zone A and B, seek shelter. Contact your county office of emergency management for shelter locations and requirements.
Text a Shelter
Individuals can text "shelter" and their zip code to 43362 to receive a list of nearby shelters within 200 miles.
Users will be able to view directions on the shelter address once clicked. However, this may not work if cell towers are not transmitting or internet access is unavailable.
Load this number into your phone for future reference.
Tampa International Airport will stop all operations at 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 27th, to secure its airfield and terminals ahead of Hurricane Ian's expected landfall later this week.
Families should be prepared to take care of themselves and their loved ones and find shelter if it's needed or wanted during this storm season!
My love, good wishes, and prayers go out to my family, friends, and loved ones in Florida.

P.S. Are you curious? Take the free Disaster and Emergency Assessment. Learn your strengths and areas for improvement in your family disaster plans.
https://www.eapworkshop.com/f/dep-assessment
Learn about emergency plans for your childrenâs school or daycare center. School is in session across the country. Now is the time to determine what your childrenâs School or Day Care center has planned if they need to evacuate your children in case of an emergency.
Download and print the Parent Emergency Evacuation Information sheet.
https://www.emergencyactionplanning.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/PARENT-EMERGENCY-EVACUATION-INFORMATION.pdf
The intent of this form is to identify what the school or the daycare facility will do if they need to evacuate your child from the property.
Remember that one of three things will happen during a disaster or emergency.
Number one: you will stay in place until the emergency is over.
Number two: you will evacuate because staying in places is not safe.
Number three: you will stay in place until it is determined that you need to leave because your safety is in jeopardy.
If you have children in multiple schools of facilities, create a page for each one of them.
The parent emergency evacuation information form has Location and contact information, and four sections relating to where your children will be taken in the event of injury or evacuation.
Section One identifies where your children will go if they need to leave the facility on foot.
Section Two identifies where the children will be transported by vehicle if necessary.
Section Three identifies the hospital or health care facility your child will be transported to if need be.
And section four identifies where your children will be transported by vehicle if there is a major environmental non-confined emergency.
Based on my experience with multiple school boards you can get three different answers.
Number one: Whoever you are talking to will have no idea what you are talking about.
Number two: You will be told this is propriety information and you are not authorized to have it.
Number three: You will receive the information youâre asking for.
Not all-inclusive
This Parent Evacuation Information form does not cover everything in the school, and daycare center emergency plan.
Feel free to ask the school, school board, or daycare director to outline all necessary emergency procedures that they have in place to protect your children.
This should be a public document and you should have access to it.

We are in a time in history that requires a deep solid commitment to prepare for a future that will not look like our past.
In the last two months, I have decisively witnessed the drought and food shortages already happening on the west coast. This will not get better any time soon.
The U.S. Teeters on the Brink of a Great Water Crisis.
Drought in the Western United States has dropped freshwater levels by 75%. And the need for water consumption by Agribusiness has not diminished. https://www.propublica.org/article/colorado-river-water-shortage-jay-famiglietti
On average, farms around the world account for 70% of all water that is consumed annually. https://htt.io/water-usage-in-the-agricultural-industry/
As the water shortage becomes more acute. So will the food shortage. This is not a west Coast problem or a U.S. problem. This is a world problem.
The only way to prepare for that future is by preparing our children to be ready, and able to take over the world we are leaving them. Bubble wrapping them and pretending everything is OK is not an option. Relying on our politicians, big business, and the school system to prepare your children is not an option.
We are the only option our children have. As parents, we need to be committed to our children and demonstrate that we are the leaders we are meant to be, so our children will grow and become the leaders they need to be.

Having a plan of action usually starts with a goal.
When planning a wedding, the end goal is usually, that the loving couple will sail off into the sunset and live happily ever after. If weâre planning a vacation, the goal will be to identify where weâre going, how we are going to get there, what it is going to cost and how long we will stay there, and when we will return home. The result usually means weâre going to have fun and enjoy ourselves. If weâre planning a birthday party, the guest list is decided on, the invitations are sent out, the decorations are envisioned, the cake is made, and the result is that usually, many people have a sugar high for several hours the birthday girl is happy with her new presents, and everyone goes to sleep at night except mom and dad who get to clean up the mess.
If you can plan a wedding, a vacation, or a birthday party. Then you can plan on what to do in case of an Emergency or Natural Disaster.
September is known as national preparedness month. It is intended to raise awareness of the importance of preparing for the unthinkable disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time in your life.
Have a Plan. Only 39 % of Americans have developed an emergency plan and discussed it with their family. https://www.cdc.gov/cpr/infographics/pfe-family.htm
According to a new Wells Fargo & Company survey, four in five Americans (84%) live in areas that have experienced some form of natural disaster in the past three years, and over half (54%) live in areas that have experienced severe natural disasters, specifically hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wildfires or earthquakes. https://newsroom.wf.com/English/news-releases/news-release-details/2021/Most-Americans-Ill-Prepared-for-Natural-Disasters-Wells-Fargo-Survey-Finds/default.aspx
When developing your emergency or natural disaster plan, it is good to have a goal. There can be many goals built into the plan. And to achieve them, itâs nice to know what you are doing and how weâre going to go about it.
This brings up the concept of Smart Goals. A smart goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely.
My friend Brian Jud an author for Bowker, has written an interesting article titled Goals are WorthlessâŠ
His article is interesting because it covers without saying so, the smart goal process, and he adds some insightful information that can be very valuable when developing a plan of action.

In the coming month of September, I will be releasing clear, specific, measurable, and timely information that you can use to create a working emergency action plan for you, your family, and your loved ones.
Attached is a link to a free PDF download that you can use to outline your plan: LINK
if you are tired of being worried every day your children leave for school, or when you leave town on business, you can relieve your anxiety by having a plan of action that will protect them.

The definition of aware is having or showing realization perception or knowledge to be aware of the danger or aware of the latest events.
Those of you who are aware have built a disaster management plan to protect yourself your family and your loved ones. And you understand that situational awareness is at the very top level of remaining safe.
The events of August 15 of this year in Los Angeles, the flash mob looting, unfortunately, might be a precursor of things to come.
In my searching back in time trying to find other incidences such as that one. Several came up from November 2021, these flash mob lootings were on high-end retail establishments and jewelry stores.
The disturbing fact is that the latest event happened at a local 7-11 store and the things that were stolen were cigarettes, lottery tickets, and probably some food and beer or wine. It is disheartening because this might not be the last time you see this happen.
With the rising prices of food, gasoline, and housing , many people are being pushed to the edge intellectually, emotionally, and financially. The more emotional we become, the lower our intellect becomes.
While reviewing the short video clip released by the LAPD Police Department find it interesting to see the observers on the outside who chose not to go in and be part of the activity seem to be pretty happy about whatâs going on. I hate to say it; the odds are good that we will see more of this quite simply because it is being done now, and those who would think they need to do it now have permission to do so.
Even a complacent man or woman will become aggressive when they are hungry. That becomes part of the problem right there. Many people have become complacent; they are comfortable with their lifestyle and how they live because they do not need to do anything about it. Much of the world has sunk to complacent, apathetic, and average.
Are you a proactive mother or father living in an at-risk urban environment with a population base of several million?
For so long, I have avoided fearmongering to try to get what I consider reasonably sane and intelligent people to do the right thing by putting disaster and emergency plans in place to protect themselves, their families, and loved ones.
I think that is over simply because the society around us is forcing the fence-sitters. Iâll think about it or the naysayers to recognize that society is changing, and the change is coming fast.
No, I donât have a crystal ball, but itâs easy to see that even here in the United States, we will see food shortages. We will see more people evicted by foreign corporations, hedge funds, and big businesses who only look at the profit.
Would you like to protect your family and loved ones? The best way to start is to put your food plan together, 14 days of food and water for your family and your loved ones. This is not a difficult task.

The Word of the Week for August 15, 2022 is Words.
Words are more powerful than perhaps anyone suspects, and once deeply engraved in a childâs mind, they are not easily eradicated. -Mary Sarton
This is an extract from the book The Promise Of A New Day is actually the reading for August 12 I decided to save it for today.
â Some of our greatest adult sufferings are owed to the many innocent abuses collected upon us as children. Harsh words, the meaning punishments, too many silent treatments, taught us who we were. When we accept criticism as accurate and deserved, it molds our character, and eventually we live up to those assessments.
The good news is that we are in control of our own thoughts and attitudes, and in this respect, we are all powerful. The decision is ours to cast aside anotherâs criticism, replacing it with positive self-talk. However, to successfully undo the harm others words have caused takes daily dedication to our own positive reinforcement those who are competent and assured have internalized a positive dialogue with themselves.â
Today is a new beginning, and I can make a fresh start by believing that I am a worthwhile person, and my contribution is necessary.â

You might know that I have interviewed many subject matter experts on communication, conversation, and leadership over the past three months.
A recurring theme is to look inside and question yourself. You have heard me mention this before. Have you done it? Whatâs the answer you came up with?
As leaders, we must accept responsibility for our actions and the outcomes we produce. 98% of the population is not in the upper class. Yes, that is a fact!
Are you tired of being put down, chastised, castrated, demeaned, eviscerated, overlooked, and forgotten because you want something different in life? Then stop doing it.
Is your business a golden egg, and your personal life a toilet? Do you happily frolic with your loved ones but cannot pay your bills? Do you long for a wonder, love, and joy-filled life? Look deep inside and learn what is holding you back. The process will not be easy, and it can be done.

20220801 Word of the Week â Happy
Learn how to be happy and enjoy life with these three tips.
Do you ever feel like you're just not quite happy with your life? Like you're missing something, but you don't know what it is?
Well, there's a chance that what you're missing is a little bit of selfishness.
Now, before you go thinking that being selfish is a bad thing, let me stop you right there. Being selfish doesn't have to be a bad thing â as long as you're not using (or hurting) other people. That's the negative form of selfishness and it's definitely self-serving.
But when it comes to your own time and happiness, being selfish and self-serving is often a good thing. Why? Because happy people are generally more well-rounded and they have more to give back to the people in their lives.
So, if you're looking for ways to be happier and enjoy life more, here are three tips:
This is probably the most important tip on the list. So many people go through life trying to please other people â whether it's their boss, their friends, or their family. But at the end of the day, you're the only one who knows what truly makes you happy. So stop worrying about what other people think and start doing what makes YOU happy.
Saying "no" can be really hard, especially if you're a people pleaser. But it's important to remember that you can't do everything and you don't have to say "yes" to every request that comes your way. Start learning to politely decline the things that you don't really want to do and you'll start feeling less stressed and more in control of your life.
This one can be tough, especially if you have a lot of responsibilities. But it's so important to make time for yourself â even if it's just a few minutes each day. Take some time to do something that YOU enjoy, whether it's reading, taking a walk, or just sitting in silence. You'll be amazed at how much better you feel when you take some time for yourself.
So there you have it â three tips for being happy and enjoying life more. Start putting them into practice and see how your life changes for the better.

Drought is a severe problem that can have a devastating effect on communities and businesses. Drought has led to crop failures, loss of jobs, and even mass migration. If you are concerned about drought and its potential effects on your community. This blog post will discuss three drought survival tips to help you thrive during dry weather.
This is a severe issue with far-reaching consequences. The drought has already caused immense economic damage and will worsen.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/237433/economic-loss-due-to-drought-in-the-us/
https://www.drought.gov/current-conditions
Everyone needs to be aware of the situation and do what they can to conserve water. Even small changes can make a big difference. What can we do?
Have a Plan:
The first drought survival tip is to have a plan. If you live in an area prone to drought, it is essential to have a plan in place. This plan should include where you will get your water from, how you will conserve water, and what you will do if your crops fail. Having a plan will help.
Extra water:
Water is always a part of your emergency plan. And, if you are in a drought, doubling the amount of water on hand will be helpful. You may need to depend on your water storage longer than expected.
Consider this; you may use your water faster than anything else. And clean water will be hard to access under duress. Foraging for water should not be your number one water sourcing option. But it would help if you planned for it.
When possible, use grey-water. Grey-water is water that you can reuse from your household and not contaminated by feces. Laundry, dish-washing, or bathing water is usually acceptable to flush toilets and wash hands.
If you need to forage, it comes to wild water. Wild water is any water that originated in nature. This place can be a stream, river, pond, or lake. This water should always be considered contaminated, processed and filtered as needed. Remember to keep this water away from fresh drinking water to prevent cross-contamination.
Dust Storms:
While it is important to be aware of the dangers posed by dust storms, with some simple precautions, you can reduce your risk. Remember to stay indoors during a dust storm, cover your nose, mouth, and wear eye protection when you must go outside, and take extra care in areas where dust storms are common.
Most importantly, be prepared for drought conditions before they become a problem. Make sure you have enough water stored away and know how to collect and store grey-water and wild water. Prepare your home for power outages and make sure you have an emergency plan in place. By being proactive now, you can help ensure that you and your family are safe during times of crisis.

Extreme Heat
Know the signs of heat-related illnesses and ways to respond.
It's important to be aware of the risks associated with extreme heat. Staying cool and avoiding injury is crucial, even if you live in VISN 8's geographical service area (Florida), which includes parts of South Georgia as well!
The human body was not meant to operate in the heat of early summer. The life-threatening dangers that come with extreme temperatures can be avoided by taking care and following some simple guidelines, such as drinking plenty of water when you are thirsty or placing cool mist humidifiers in your home during these sweltering days!
To avoid the risk of death from heatstroke, always drink plenty of fluids and wear light-colored clothing while outside.
We all know that extreme heat is the leading cause of annual deaths in America. Lately, it seems like everyone has been talking about how we should do more to protect ourselves from this dangerous weather. You can do many things starting today and in the future, that will help keep your family safe during any hot spell or tropical storm!
The heat is one of the most dangerous things in nature, and it can kill you with just a few degrees rise. It's always best to be safe than sorry- here are some tips on how not only cool off but also identify signs/symptoms if someone has been a victim so they know what their next steps should be!
Preparedness
In the summertime, it's easy to let your body temperature rise and become uncomfortable. A fan can seem like a good idea at first, but they provide little relief from heat stroke or other illnesses related to being too warm in an enclosed space without proper ventilation. Never rely on one as your primary cooling device!
There are many ways you could prevent this problem: install window ACs; cover up any glass surfaces so that less sunlight gets through (this includes drapes); take steps towards insulating buildings by making air conditioners more efficient use electricity efficiently where possible). If all else fails, investigate funding opportunities such as If you cannot afford your cooling costs, weatherization, or energy-related home repairs, contact the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for help. https://www.liheap.org/
Safety
Never leave people or pets in a closed car on a warm day.
If air conditioning is unavailable in your home, go to a cooling center.
Take cool showers or baths.
Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
If youâre outside, find shade. Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face.
Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
Heat-Related Illness
Know the signs of heat-related illnesses and ways to respond. If you are sick and need medical attention, contact your healthcare provider for advice and shelter in place if you can. Suppose you are experiencing a medical emergency call 9-1-1.

Being in transition can be beneficial if it is purposeful and with intent.
Change is the one constant in life. And yet, we are often surprised when it comes. We as humans regularly desire something better, different, and not the way things are. But we fight tooth and nail to prevent anything from changing. Living in our own imaginary construct of reality is comforting. And we still want it to be different because we are not happy with the life the world has given us.
And their lies the lie, we have been feeding ourselves for so many years. The life the world has given us is exactly the life we have asked for, whether we like it or not.
And we can make a change. If you want to transition from who you are now, to who you want to be. Step up and do it. Become the leader in your own life and stop letting others lead you. It will not be easy or happen overnight. You will stumble and fall but get up and take one more step forward. You will only fail if you stop trying.
I have decided to transition my life to something better. I could have stayed where I was, with a good job, comfortable living arrangements, and family to support me.
If you are curious, I took the below picture during my drive out of Florida. I was at this location 15 or so years ago, and I remembered it distinctly. I chose to route my drive so I could take a picture of it.
Follow That Dream. I know you have one.
I challenge you to make your dreams come true. Pull out a notepad and write down 10 things you want to do, 10 things you want to have, and 10 things you want to be. They cannot be things that have already happened in your life. Be wild, go way outside the box, and dream big. You have nothing to lose except maybe the life you really do not want.
You must be willing to give up who you are, to become who you want to be. Reach out to me, I will support you and your ventures to the best of my ability. Do not ask for money.

20220620 Word of the Week - Scheduling
Hello Daniel Kilburn, here. The word of the week for June 20, 2022, is scheduling.
One of the greatest stories I hear from people about why they are incapable of putting a plan together to protect themselves, their family, and their loved ones is: I do not have the time.
Now one thing is certain, we all have 24 hours in a day.
Some of you might not know this, but up until last Friday, I had a 40-hour-a-week job that Iâve been working for the previous nine years, and that 40 hours a week was always my excuse why I did not have enough time to accomplish those things that I feel I need to achieve in my life.
I retired from that job, my last day at work was last Friday, and I no longer have the 40-hour-a-week job as an excuse not to move forward.
For me to use my time constructively, I need to schedule my time.
As a Senior Drill Sergeant, we scheduled every minute of the day for our training. From the moment our soldiers woke up to when they went to bed. We knew what we were doing and when to do it.
All successful people have learned to schedule their time. So now that I no longer have a 40-hour work week, those eight-hour days are being rescheduled.
But here comes a vital issue in scheduling. I will only need to schedule those things that must be completed immediately.
We often have many things we would like to do, many things we are working towards. But unfortunately, some of those things waste our time and accomplish nothing except fulfilling our need to imagine that we have done something.
Hereâs a little trick I learned from somebody else, and I will share it with you.
To help you find out the most important thing you need to do now. Pull out a piece of paper and start writing on it everything you want, want to do, want to have, and want to be.
Once you complete this list, you will categorize each item in a Priority category big P as in Planning, Perseverance, Productivity Popsicles.
P1 items are the things you need to do now.
P2 items can be done within 5 to 14 days.
P3 items that can be done in 14 days or longer.
Once you have identified your P 1âs, start scheduling them on your daily planner.
Yes, it is that simple.
If you fail to complete one of your daily P1âs. Make a note of what hindered you from achieving something you have decided needs to be done immediately.
Adjust, and keep moving forward
Till next time

NOAA Extreme Weather Information Sheets
NOAA Extreme Weather Information Sheets (NEWIS) are a printable downloads containing contact information for local, regional, and national organizations that can provide aid and information during tropical storms, hurricanes, and other extreme coastal events. NCEI created these sheets to help residents of coastal states and the two US territories that are particularly at risk from tropical storms and hurricanes.
PDF versions of the 22 NOAA Extreme Weather Information Sheets are available for coastal sections of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
NCEI annually verifies contacts, phone numbers, and websites listed on NEWIS Sheets, and continues to monitor and update this information throughout the hurricane season.
NOAA Extreme Weather Information Sheets (NEWIS) can be found here: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/resources/newis
NOAA Weather Radio
NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information directly from the nearest National Weather Service office. NWR broadcasts official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Working with the Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) Emergency Alert System, NWR is an "All Hazards" radio network, making it your single source for comprehensive weather and emergency information. In conjunction with Federal, State, and Local Emergency Managers and other public officials, NWR also broadcasts warning and post-event information for all types of hazards â including natural (such as earthquakes or avalanches), environmental (such as chemical releases or oil spills), and public safety (such as AMBER alerts or 911 Telephone outages).
NOAA WEATHER RADIO ALL HAZARDS: https://www.weather.gov/nwr/
To listen to NOAA alerts a special radio capable of receiving the frequencies is needed. These are just two of the ones I use.
NOAA Weather Radio: https://amzn.to/3QudliB sits on my end table in the front room, and is tuned to the local NOAA frequencies for my location.

20220613 Word of the Week - Conversation
Halfway through June and my Conversation skills are being tested daily.
As a leader it is crucial to speak clearly.
Let's look at some tools and techniques you can use to have an important conversation with anyone.
Before going into the conversation, ask yourself some questions.
What is your purpose for having the conversation?
What do you hope to accomplish?
What would be an ideal outcome?
Whom are you talking to?
When are you going to talk to them?
Engage them in the conversation and ask for feedback.
Think of the person you need to have an important conversation with. Is he or she similar or different from you when it comes to how they communicate?
Is the person:
· Controlling
· Analyzing
· Supporting
· Promoting
These are all different communication styles. And, knowing your own style and the style of the person you're talking to is important so that you can adjust your style to fit the situation.
You may want to avoid having the conversation if:
You're not ready. You need more information or time to think about what you want to say.
The other person isn't ready. If they're not in the right frame of mind, it's best to wait until they are.
You're both too emotional. It's important to be able to have a conversation without getting defensive or angry. If you're feeling too emotionally charged, it's best to wait until you've calmed down.
You're not in the right place. If the environment isn't conducive to a productive conversation, it's best to wait until you can talk in a more private or relaxed setting.
The time isn't right. If you try to have a conversation when the other person is rushed or doesn't have time, it likely won't be productive.
Scheduling a time to talk can help ensure that both parties are ready and willing to have a productive conversation.
Some final tips:
Listen more than you speak. You'll learn more about what the other person is thinking and feeling, and they'll be more likely to listen to you if you've listened to them.
Don't interrupt. It shows that you are not listening.
Plan your conversation to the style that matches the person you are talking with and give them what they need to be in the conversation.
Plan your conversation to the style that matches the person you are talking with
and give them what they need to be in the conversation.
Do not over-analyze it. Get the momentum going.

20220530 Word of the Week â Belief
Vlog can be found here: https://wp.me/p7NwNC-1c0
On this day, May 30th,2022, Memorial Day I honor all service members who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom of speech. And the responsibility that comes with it.
Donât Believe everything you hear and only half of what you see.
Of note is the fabricated photo in this article.
https://theintercept.com/2022/05/26/ar-15-uvalde-school-shooting-vietnam-war/
This photo does show what appears to be a modern AR-15. However, it is obvious the photo has been fabricated, or the caption is fabricated.
The facts of photo fabrication are the collapsible buttstock and cylindrical forward hand grips. These were not issued on the Military M4 until 1994, 27 years after this photo was taken
The apparent full flash suppressor has never been in use on an M16 rifle. A three-pronged flash hider was used in 1967. And the length of the barrel identifies this as a short-barreled rifle. Not in production during the Vietnam Conflict. The photo is a fabrication or was taken after Vietnam, and the caption has been fabricated
Compare the two photos to see what a standard-issue battle rifle of the time looked like. No, they are not the same.
http://www.vietnamgear.com/
If this is an actual A.P. photo, why the fabrication. I think the photo historians at Associated Press (A.P.) would know better, or are they intentionally lying about the photo? Yes I did say lying.
Another option, this being passed off as an A.P. photo by the editors of The Intercept? Someone is lying here.
The real question is whether someone is lying. If news media is willing to lie to the public with a photo, what else are they lying about with their words?
âThe recognition that something has gone terribly wrong with how people consume information has led to calls for censorship or even appointing a government âreality czar.â
https://theintercept.com/2021/02/13/news-rage-economy-postjournalism-andrey-mir/
Censorship and a Reality Cazar would be suspect in itself.
When the organizations we rely on for information are lying to us for profit, the entire system becomes suspect. When the information we rely on becomes suspect, we retreat into our own bubble of information and what we believe to be true. The danger here is that we really should not believe what we believe.
Trust, but verify.

The most significant reason I hear about why someone cannot do something is. "I do not have the time." Not enough time is one of the biggest lies, excuses, and stories ever contrived to avoid something. And it might not be your fault.

20220516 Word of the Week â One
What is the number one thing holding you back?
If you knew that you would not fail, what would you do?
Many of us let our dreams die for no reason, but our little voice inside tells us we canât do it.
No proof, no evidence of failure. There is no burden of proof that you will fail until you have failed.
Thomas Edison said he found 10,000 ways not to make a light bulb. He didnât fail.
We struggle daily with the decision to succeed.
Commit to your family, business, your life. Are you a parent, business executive, business owner, entrepreneur, or a human being? If you are alive today, you are a leader. Lead something.
But I donât know-how. Learn.
What if I fail? You cannot fail at something if you do not do it. Failure is part of the process. You cannot learn to succeed until you know what does not work.
But I need permission. No, you donât. You do not require anyoneâs approval but your own.
I learned long ago that asking for permission is a guaranteed failure. Those who decide if we need permission want us to fail so we can stay where we are.
Are you happy where you are?
You are the one who is here to succeed. Do something. Have a plan, be playful, and persevere. And you will succeed.

20220510 Word of the Week â Questions
Communication has been on top of my mind for some time now.
I am always curious about something, and questions drive our curiosity. We want answers, so we ask questions.
As leaders, it is our responsibility to keep growing and learning.
Keep asking questions. Don't stop asking.
Be the curious seeker, scientist, and explorer. Learn something about yourself and those around you.
When in conversation, deepen it with why.
Following an answer with why questions will deepen the conversation, and you might gain more insight and connection with your conversation partners. But don't become the interrogator. Share your own story.
Take the opportunity to become vulnerable and connected.

Lately, I have been craving more protein in my diet.
I eat more meat, nuts, and dairy products. And I still crave more protein.
There are many reasons to have a high-protein diet. It helps with muscle mass, helps your brain think better, and helps you sleep better while reducing cravings for late-night snacks and high-carb foods.
While looking at my disaster food stores have identified several protein items which are consistent. First, there are those chicken and beef soups, canned chicken, tuna, and dried meats.
And that can get kind of boring, so I decided to introduce a different form of protein into my food stores. These are simple protein shakes in one serving container.
Keep in mind that if you add these to your food stores, the shelf life is approximately one year. Therefore, I recommend repeatedly rotating your food from your disaster stockpile through your kitchen to keep your disaster stockpile as fresh as possible.

I bring up this word to ponder because of some of the positive and negative connotations of the term compromise. Look it up in the dictionary, and it appears to be relatively negative.
Somehow, we are settling for something less, we are making ourselves vulnerable, and somehow, we are losing.
Nothing could be farther from the truth. I talked to some people at a party earlier this week, and the term compromise came up. The consensus of many people there was that compromise is not a win-win situation. It's a win-lose. People felt that they were losing if they had to compromise in a negotiation. It didn't matter what the compromise might be. They just considered it a loss.
When we think of that, we must wonder how that ideology manufactures or manifests itself in their life.
Take action, put a plan together, and even if you never have to use it, you will have it for your children. And your children will recognize that you're doing something for them, and they will love you. So, mom and dad, what are you compromising?

Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.
That statement was told to me in the fall of 1972 by a Senior Non-commissioned Officer in the United States Army. I had recently finished basic training and was posted to my first duty station in the 101stAirborne, I and other young soldiers were about to embark on an on-the-job training course as an infantryman.
Vietnam was still going on. But it was still three years until the US would be out of there. Thousands of young soldiers were pouring into the 101st Airborne to replenish its losses, and our anticipation or expectation was that we would be returning to Vietnam.
But that did not happen. We were being trained to fight a nuclear, chemical, and biological war against the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe.
My posting in the 101st Airborne was in a Battalion Recon Platoon. Our job was to move forward of the Forward Edge of the Battle Area (FEBA), conduct tactical intelligence surveillance, and get the information back to our command behind us.
As a young Recon Scout, it became very apparent that anything I said or did could adversely affect the lives of up to 30,000 people behind me. It was vital to know that what I was saying was true because the people listening to my words would believe it to be so and act on it.
Today almost 50 years later, that statement is more accurate than ever.
Don't Believe Anything You Hear And Only Half Of What You See
Today we live in a world emboldened by outright liars, misinformation mongers, politicians, media personalities, and marketers who will set our emotions on fire so they can profit from it.
Today the American people and the people of the world are vastly divided. Why?
Because we believe we know better than they do
"Beliefs are what divide people. Doubt unites them. â Peter Ustinov"
If we were to take a moment and look at our recent history. It does not matter what side of the fence you sit on. We can objectively see that some of the gravest injustices done by people are because of emotion. Not because of the truth or the facts.
For us to be effective, we need to have a plan. We need to remove the emotion from the equation.
Learn to seek the truth of what can be done, how it can be done, what needs to be done, and when it needs to be done.
Our plans should be based on facts and truth. There is no emotion involved there, though sometimes emotion will pop up. I will enjoy it at the moment, and then I will get back to the brain and follow the plan. The brain is smart the heart is stupid.

Sometimes we donât think we need a plan and there are many times when a spur-of-the-moment thing is very enjoyable. But even though we might do something in the spur of the moment, subconsciously, deep down inside we have a plan.
It is usually terrific to have a plan of action when it comes to disaster management planning, business, or family.
A plan of action will help you do several things. One is it saves some time. You will not be running around like a chicken with your head cut off. Having a plan will save you energy because youâre not going to be frustrated by waste energy trying to figure out what youâre going to do. And believe it or not having a plan can help you save money.
Why is having a plan essential? Are you a leader in your family, a leader in your business, or your community? You are responsible for everything.
it is sometimes good to do things differently. Get outside, do something different, go have some fun make it a plan to enjoy yourself. Leaders accept responsibility for it all.

Iâve been pondering what I call the five-second question answer.
I remember a point when I was filled with hubris full of myself and knew everything. And people would ask me questions.
I would think, man, canât you go online to look it up? It will take five seconds. I realized I was doing myself and them a severe disservice.
I realized that they probably do want an answer to a question, and they donât know where to find it. So, they are asking the person they think will have the answer.
I discovered many years ago there are three basic reasons people donât accomplish something.
One is they donât know how to do what they want. They need an answer.
They are afraid of doing something wrong, and they need an answer to do it right.
And three there seeking permission. Permit them to find the answer to do what they feel like they need to do and accomplish whatever their goal is.

What exactly is the other?
The word other can encompass many, many different things. It can be something different than what's expected, separate from what is expected, or opposite of what is expected,
The word "other" can cover many different things. When I think about others, I usually think about what other things I should be thinking about that I probably am not thinking about.
We can think of others as an extra can opener in our disaster management planning. Others can be the individuals needing specific assistance for help in the evacuation or response process.
Others can be finding out what other things can bite us.
We don't think about some things because they are not at the top of our minds. And that's normal. We are human. If we don't have it in front of us we will not be thinking about it.
When making or creating your emergency action plan or working on any other type of project, it's always good to have a little checkbox with the word other next to it.

Yesterday was a first for Emergency Action Planning. We participated in our first Business Expositions.
It was a fun, entertaining, and educational event. Several people were enrolled in the Emergency Action Planning process, made several connections, and had a great time until the liquid sunshine showed up.
Celebrate your wins. Let the world know you are doing something that matters and there are successes.
When building your emergency action plan, celebrate the accomplishments with your family and loved ones.
These celebrations will build momentum and drive more incredible achievements because of the visible, tangible proof of accomplishing the task.
Celebrating the wins draws the family closer together because of the shared responsibility of achievement.

All things emergency management-related have a plan. I do not call it emergency management planning for nothing.
Having a plan will prevent panic, make it easier to recover, and instill confidence in your family.
But it will not prevent;
Death and injury
Property damage and loss
Economic crisis
Recrimination and social unrest
To recover from these events, you do need a plan.

While learning everything I can about protecting myself and my loved ones from emergencies and disasters, I have concluded that there are three terms we can use that will cover most disasters and protect us.
That is time distance and shielding.
Time simply means donât be there at the same time that it, whatever the disaster or emergency is, happening is the timing issue.
Distance is having space between you and the event, so it wonât affect you. The farther away you are from the disaster or the emergency, the safer you will be from the disaster or emergency.
And shielding if you canât get far away from it then place something between you and the hazard, so it will not affect you.
During my first tour of duty in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1979 Post-Vietnam, the United States military actively prepared to conduct a nuclear, chemical, and biological war against the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe.
And that is where time distance and shielding come into play, when protecting an individual from nuclear radiation.
Time; The less time an individual is exposed to radiation, the less exposure you will receive and live longer.
Distance; The farther away you are from the radiated area, the less exposure you will receive and the longer you will live.
And if you cannot spend time away from or distance yourself from radiation, you need shielding between you and the radiated area to prevent exposure so you can live longer.
I donât know what tomorrow will bring. But keeping in mind three concepts of time, distance, and shielding are always good to know as limited safety factors protecting yourself from emergencies and disasters

There are three important P's of preparedness that everyone should keep in mind: planning, playing, and persevering.
Planning is the key to any successful project. You need a well-thought-out plan to guide you from start to finish. Without a plan, you're likely to get overwhelmed and give up before you even start.
Playing is an important part of life. It's how we learn and grow, and it's a necessary part of keeping our spirits high. When things get tough, it's important to find ways to lighten the mood and have some fun.
Perseverance is essential for any goal. No one ever achieved anything great without persevering through hard times and setbacks. When the going gets tough, don't give up â keep pushing forward until you reach your goals.
Planning, playing, and persevering are the three P's of preparedness that everyone should remember. By keeping these in mind, you'll be better equipped to handle any situation that comes your way.

The Ukraine war is a clear example of how apathy in the west has emboldened a powerful, malicious world leader.
What is happening in Eastern Europe today is happening because we allowed it to happen. For decades, western leaders have demonstrated an apathetic response to despots and malevolent world leaders.
What does this mean for us here, now, today?
If we remain apathetic to the safety and welfare of our children, we will teach them apathy as a lifestyle. And our children will teach it to their children because that is what we, the parents, are teaching them to be.

During a natural disaster or emergency, one of three things will happen.
Number one, you will be able to shelter in your home, ride out the event until its conclusion, and then come out to determine damages and recovery needs.
Number two, you will need to evacuate immediately because your home is not safe due to the nature of the emergency or disaster.
Number three, you will be sheltering at home and find that your home is no longer safe, and you must evacuate immediately.

House fire safety, the number one preventable disaster that strikes the most people in the United States and kills more people than all natural disasters combined.
Now I do know based on research information we can find readily and freely available that the number one disaster that affects more people are house fires.
Thatâs right house fires. Did you know that more people die every year by house fires than all natural disasters combined?
Now somewhere around here thereâs a link to the donât burn your house down training that will walk you through a process to go over with your family.
You can identify the things that need to be done, develop and build an evacuation plan for your house and put it in action. You can do it all within a week engage everybody in the household with the subject and the project because theyâre all going to be affected by it and youâll be comfortable and confident knowing that youâve done the best thing you can to prevent a house fire and to protect your loved ones in their sleep from a fire.

You were at risk from the day you were born, youâre at risk when you got out of bed this morning when you drove to work and when you ate that bagel this morning.
From the day you were born the world has been trying to kill you.
As a leader we need to embrace risk we need to accept risks.
People fall into three categories when it comes to accomplishing something great.
They donât know how to do it
They are afraid.
They want permission.
Which one are you?
The world gave you permission the day you were born.
Today were going to discuss one very valuable concept that a true leader understands deeply. It is called change.
Leaders Are Change Masters.
This is really hard for some people because changes â can be painful.
âEverybody wants to go to Heaven, but no one wants to die to get there!â
- B. B. King
Today I want to discuss how do we empower others? How do we inspire them? How do we enroll other people into our vision, so they will help us accomplish whatever it is were going after, and at the same time help them accomplish something themselves?
âMastery of leadership is a skill through which you understand the mechanisms, tools, and strategies that are effective in enrollment and leadership. When youâre enrolling, you are inspiring and empowering people while leading them in the direction of your visionâand their own.â â Chris Hawker, co-founder, Next Level Trainings
Today, we are developing a transformational leader.
As a leader, we find ourselves on differing levels of leadership depending on who we are with and what we are doing.
As a parent. You are in a position of leadership with your children.
As a business executive. You are in a position of leadership with your subordinates.
As a politician. You are in a position of leadership with your constituency.
Because of our position, we are permitted to lead by those who need our leadership. However, this is fleeting. Because permission will be withdrawn if we break the trust of those we lead.
Being in a position and having permission to lead others requires us to produce an outcome.
The outcome of our vision will be congruent with our values.
Leaders Live By Values That Are Consistent With Their Vision.
And what are the values that are consistent with the vision?
The easiest way for me to answer this question is to explain the values
P.S. Remember to grab a copy of the free Holiday House Fire-Safety eBook here.
Being a parent, I want my children to be better off than I am.
Being a parent, I want my children to have better resources and opportunities than I did when I was their age.
Being a parent, I want my children to feel safe wherever they are.
And I want my children to accomplish great things that make them feel worthy in this world.
And the only way it was going to happen, is if I transformed who I was.
I told you that my vision is to protect our children from the emergencies and disasters that will come into their lives.
As a parent that was one of the most powerful desires, I had raising my girls. And they gave me permission to do it.
We will keep the permission level of leadership until we transform to the next level of Production. Or until we lose that permission because we have broken their trust.
I lost the trust of my oldest daughter at one time because I did something I knew was in her best interest, but she did not like it.
As the leader I did not waiver because my actions were firmly seated in my love for her. Over time My leadership position elevated to Production because my daughter recognized the outcome was the right one.
This did not happen overnight.
As a leader in your family, you must be committed to your vision. You must take whatever action is necessary to accomplish it. And you must be willing to fail.
The process will show your children what is right regardless of the consequences. And you will connect with your children on a deeper level, and they will want to be like you.
Day 1.
During the 12 days of Christmas, my gift to you is leadership. It is vital for you to know that real leaders are needed today at this time in history. And if you are a parent, it is my wish that you become one.
I have observed three distinct types of leaders.
The three Ts of leadership

Word of the Week for December 20th, 2021, is Medical
The medical information provided in this training material is, at best, of a general nature and cannot substitute for the advice of a medical professional i.e. a qualified doctor/ physician, nurse, pharmacist/ chemist or such. Emergency Action Planning is not a doctor.
Please note I am not a doctor, I have not played a Doctor on a Movie or TV show, and I do not pretend to be a doctor even though I have taught First Aid and CPR for the American Red Cross. And have received Combat Life Saver Training while in the US Army.
Three basic skills are, Bleeding, Breathing, and Shock. Failure to address these issues and your patient can die.
Training:
Medical training and First Aid skill are perishable. They need to be evaluated, assessed, replaced and re-trained on a regular basis.
Get your basic First Aid and CPR training, and then you can upgrade your level of First Aid proficiency with the appropriate advanced training.
My favorite advanced first aid provider is Doom and Bloom. Operated by Dr, Joe and Nurse Amy Alton. They provide a wonderful selection of educational information, training and supplies.
First Aid Kits:
If you already have a basic first aid kit. Make sure it is up-to date, the ingredients are perishable and over time they will degrade.
Tell the band-aid story.
If you do not have a first aid kit, get one. They can be found at most Pharmacies and big-box stores.

Remember not to forget. There is no actual learning unless you do something.
Practice does not make perfect. Practice makes permanent.
Remember the rule of threes? Three seconds of panic or indecision will kill you.
The techniques for practicing your plan of action fall into three categories.
Drills, rehearsals, and exercises.
Follow up with periodic practice exercises to ensure you remember the plan. Â This will allow you to adjust your plan based on your family or environmental changes.
Stress and anxiety will disappear because you know what to do and when.

In our modern world, if you want to brush our teeth, it is simple. You go in the bathroom, turn the water on, grab the toothbrush and toothpaste and go at it. Everything is put into the sink and the running water will rinse it down the drain.
You need to go to the bathroom. It is no problem. You walk into the bathroom, shut the door, do what you need to do, and flush the toilet. It goes down the drain.
During a major disaster, we might not have these luxuries.
Additional information on disaster sanitation tactics can be found in the Family Urban Disaster Planning book.

Word of the Week for November 29th, 2021 is Food
Do you remember the rule of threes?
Three weeks without food can kill you.
Food is an absolute necessity.
And like water you will need to have ample amounts of food on hand because if you do not, over time your health and welfare will become at risk.
The bare bones minimum amount of food to have on hand is 72 hours, or three daysâ worth. Regardless of your age or gender, go with 2000 calories per person a day, it will suffice. A recommended amount is 14 day or two weeksâ worth of food.
Those of you wanting a head start can download the free 72 Hour Grocery Shopping List here. https://bit.ly/grocerylist72
I recall after Hurricane Irma was over and my local grocery store reopened, the staff were restocking the shelves with grocery carts full of food returned by people who wanted their money back.
This brings to light a disturbing concept.
1.People seriously over purchased and spent money they could afford to spend because they had no plan and did not prepare well in advance.
This is your opportunity not to be one of those people.
A preplanned food store in your home will always insure you and your loved ones can eat.
Remember to communicate with your loved ones who will be involved with your plan. Ask for their input. Let them pick items for the emergency food store. Celebrate their involvement.
Sooner or later you will discover the ease with which you can communicate with your loved ones on the important topics.

Word of the Week for November 22nd, 2021, is Water
Do you remember the rule of threes?
Three days without water can kill you.
During my tenure as a Senior Drill Sergeant I was charged as all Drill Sergeants are with the safety, health and welfare of the young men and women placed in our charge.
During their time with us these individuals are placed in situations that will tax their physical, mental, and emotional core beyond anything they have ever witnessed in their lives, with few exceptions.
These individuals were placed in situations that if not managed judiciously, could cause serious injury and death. In this environment there are no accidents. Only failures to act accordingly.
One of the most serious and preventable injuries we are faced with are HEAT ILLNESSES. Heat illness falls under three headings
HEAT EXHAUSTION
HEAT STROKE
HYPONATREMIA "Water Intoxication"
Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke are the two most common manageable injuries. Hyponatremia is a byproduct of over hydrating and can be mistaken for Heat Stroke.
Donât be the person that places your family and loved ones at risk because you donât have time to keep hydrated.

Do you remember the rule of threes?
Three hours without shelter can kill you.
If the environment is too hot or too cold, it will be uncomfortable. And can become deadly.
The shelter is an extension of our clothing intended to regulate body temperature.
One of three things will happen after a natural disaster.
A: You will shelter at home, not to be confused with sheltering in place
B: You live in a mandatory evacuation zone, or your home has been damaged or destroyed. You will need to evacuate to a safe place to take shelter.
C: You will shelter at home until forced to leave because it is no longer safe to stay there.
If sheltering at home, it is in our best interest to minimize any hazards that may cause personal injury by conducting a home hazard hunt. You can find the Home Hazard Hunt Checklist here
You ask, what is the other one percent? Few people understand that less than one percent of the US population are serving in the US Military at any given time.

Why People Do Not Prepare
The Oxford language dictionary defines a decision as a conclusion or resolution reached after consideration or the action or processes of deciding something or resolving a question.
We make decisions and decide things every day, all day long.
Some of these items revolve around daily maintenance and upkeep. For example, shall I have ice water or tap water, bacon and eggs, bagel and cream cheese, fresh fruit, or a smoothie? What color socks will I put on, will I wear silver or gold jewelry today?
Other decisions we make can have life-changing outcomes financial investment, starting a business, or relying on somebody else to do something for us.
The decision-making process for protecting our family and loved ones from emergencies and disasters is much more demanding.
Our decision-making will generally fall into one or more of these five categories.
Who â What â When â Where â Why â How
As in any project, before deciding on what will happen, we first must gather information. Then, based on that information, we will follow a sequence of five events that define the decision-making process.
Analyze the outcome
Analyze the situation and develop your courses of action (COAâs)
Analyze your courses of action
Compare your courses of action
Make a decision
Source: Army Techniques Publication (ATP) 5 â 19. Risk Management
As noted in previous posts, it is best to have more than one course of action. However, please note that each course of action should be distinct so there would be no confusion between them.
Once you have decided on a course of action, it is best not to deviate from it.

It's essential to have specific information on planning a project or deciding to follow through with the task.
Putting a vacation together requires information.
Developing a disaster management plan also requires information. But, again, it is best not to wing it.
Be aware of your personal confirmation bias. Double check information with reliable sources.
There is no need to rush your efforts to find accurate information.

Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan
Comprehensive emergency management is defined as the preparation for and the carrying out of all emergency functions necessary to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters caused by all hazards, whether natural, technological, or human-caused.
Source: https://www.usf.edu/administrative-services/emergency-management/planning/cemp.aspx
All Government agencies, municipalities, and major corporations have a CEMP.
The CEMP can be built from the Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (THIRA)
The Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (THIRA) process help communities understand the normal set of risks it faces. By identifying and prioritizing those threats, a community can then make smarter decisions. Leaders need to manage the risks through
Appropriate planning
Mitigation strategies
Developing needed capabilities
Source: https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/hsem/homeland-security/Pages/threat-hazard-risk-assess.aspx
The THIRA is Federally Mandated by Presidential Policy Directive 8, for grantees who receive Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) and Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) awards.
Both documents the CEMP and THIRA are public records, and you can get a copy through your County Office of Emergency Management.
Keep in mind you might face some hesitation from the person you are speaking with. These are not normally asked for by the public. I was once denied a copy of my county CEMP. The operator cited national security as the reason it will not be disseminated. I stepped up to her boss and got a copy.

Three months without companionship
What does the word three have in common with each of these events?
They will kill you.
Think about that.

For our purposes, we will do what is called backward planning.
This is the method of planning that I was trained on in the military and continue to use today.
It is very simple, and it does require judicious use of time management.
Backward planning requires the starting point with a result and a time and date that result will be accomplished.
It is quite possible that you to use backward planning in your daily life to accomplish certain tasks, goals, or missions. But youâre just not aware of what itâs called.
A life coach encourages and counselsâ clients on a range of professional and personal issues.
Life coaches help people to:
Recognize their skills, talents, and unique abilities
Acknowledge their dreams or figure out where their passions lie
Set or refocus their goals
Prepare for potential challenges and move past any obstacles that they do encounter
Stay accountable as they navigate the path to success
Build confidence
Consider alternative approaches they might not have thought of
