Veteran Herald writer Wynne Gray has weighed in on the Haka debate sparked over the weekend.
A new book quoted former All Black’s saying that the pre-game ritual has become overused.
While the ritual has been defended by coach Steve Hansen and multiple players, Gray, a rugby writer for the New Zealand Herald, says that the ritual has lost its impact.
He says that he does not think it should be performed in New Zealand, describing it as tedious.
“I think it would be much better received and appreciated if we got a rare glimpse at home and used it overseas as part of a New Zealand tourism tactic.”
He says he does not imagine the New Zealand Rugby Union would drop it.
