I don’t have “rules” in my classroom. I teach my students new principles for each unit of study and then we practice those principles. It keeps my classroom environment positive, healthy, and incredibly functional. In today’s episode I will explain how I teach my life skills to my classes, how they work, and how to hold students accountable to the principles that we talk about!

Several months ago, I was having a rough day. I can’t even recall what the issue was that I was upset about, probably the usual, a parent email, an ornery student, you name it…
I was able to talk to my friend Alison across the hall about it. The next day she brought me a pair of Sloth socks, I’m in love with sloths and llamas, and sugar skulls… Sorry, got side-tracked… Haha! She is the best!
This is the same girl who will call my phone if she can tell I got cornered in my classroom after school with a weird student or something, just to rescue me! What a GREAT friend!
Value of teacher friends is immense. We need teacher friends - like air - in fact, there are 3 types of teacher friends that we need most, In this episode I will talk about the three types of teacher friends we need and how those relationships are mutually beneficial!

I recently read a post on a Facebook group that I belong to for AVID educators. In it, Mary, a great teacher poured out her heart and admitted to having trouble with her AVID class. One thing about an AVID elective class is that the teacher often loops up with the high school students. This is great for relationships, consistency, and growth. This is not always great for teachers because the students can become VERY comfortable, especially as they near graduation and feel the "senioritis" kick in. Mary mentioned some regular issues, and I found myself nodding along, teaching can be tough! But the next line stopped me in my tracks. She said, “I am sitting here crying because I am not the teacher who should be teaching this. I feel like a fake.” It completely knocked the breath out of me! I don’t know Mary. I just happen to be in an educator group she is a part of, but I KNOW that feeling, and I KNOW that feeling like this is almost always wrong!
So, being the nerd that I am, and knowing I was feeling the exact same way about starting a podcast for teachers...Who am I to tell teachers how to do things?... I went into research mode.
I am really excited to share some things I have learned about that negative voice in Mary’s head, in my head, and maybe even in yours!
Let’s dive into what “Imposter Syndrome” is, and how to get rid of it!
