Dear Reader,I have been coming across several mistakes that are being made on Custom Facebook Pages. The good news is that for most of these they are easily fixed.The second one that I found is that people are not opening up the wall settings to allow it to show both the page owners posts but also any of the "likers" posts to the page.One key strategy of Social Media is to engage in a two way conversation with your followers. In order to do that you must allow the conversation to happen. One of the biggest mistakes I see on Custom Facebook pages is the use of the info box that is on the left hand side of the screen just below the main image.
Most are not putting in their website address. Then most do not realize how to make the address a clickable link. You must add the http:// in front of your web address to make it a clickable link.
This is easily fixed by just clicking in the box and making the needed change.

7 reasons why you should have a Custom Facebook Page

It provides a "public" location for your business on a powerful trust building platform.
Facebook now accounts for 35% of all internet traffic. It is probably a good idea to have a presence on this platform, especially if your product or service is directed to the consumer. -
Links are active and the page is viewable even to people not on Facebook.
Facebook pages are indexed by Google and will appear in searches. Getting the extra exposure is well worth it for your business or organiztion.
It really is like having a free website. Of course you must remember that you don't own it. (We will discuss that more in email number 3)
So since your page can be found and viewed by even those outside of Facebook, why not have one?
- You can separate your personal and business.
I personally like this one a lot. Unlike other platforms that are based on your personal profile, a Facebook Page can actually show no ties to you personall at all. This is a great way to separate personal, family and friends activity on Facebook from professional and business activity.
- Provides a multi-media portal for content sharing.
Facebook is willing to host your videos and photos for you for free. If you understand using video and images as a part of your marketing efforts you will take right to this feature.
There is so much that you can do a lot with video, photos and audio on Facebook. (More on that in email number 7).
- Provides an active location for engagement.
Engagement after all is the heart of Social Media. A two way conversation with the business and its customers. I know of some businesses that are actually using it as their primary means of customer service. Talk about a Cost Reduction strategy!
- Leverage your own personal networks.
Do you have large social networks already? You can leverage that with a Facebook Page. Even if your network is just starting out you can get the most from it using a Facebook Page. If your someone that does business face to face give people a reason to like your page. Then you have an ongoing connection with that person after meeting them.
- If you have employees they can become business evangelists.
Talk about a new and innovative way of marketing your business using the assets you already have. Your employees. With a carefully devised Social Media Policy you can actually leverage your own work force in promoting your business. One example that comes to mind is restaurants. Imagine all the employees connecting with their networks. Letting their friends know about specials or events coming up. That is powerful!
Finally you should also customize a landing page on your Facebook Page. This helps give you a unique branding and provides the messaging to your target market.

This blog is all about providing tips and ideas on how to best use Facebook Pages.
One of the things I will be doing is reviewing each of the various tabs that are standard and the tabs that you can add with various applications.
The first one I want to review is the Notes tab.
One way to think of the Notes tab is to view it like a blog. This is a place for you to post your articles and ideas in a forum for everyone to read and comment on them. If you are looking to build a good following on a Facebook Page using the notes for blogging is a great idea.
You can also add an RSS feed to your notes. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It basically makes it easy for people to subscribe to your content. Any blog platform out there already has RSS built into it. So you could take the RSS from your current blog if you have one and then have it automatically feed into your Notes tab.
However there are some issues that I have found with this. Not all RSS feeds seem to feed in at all or can mess up the way the information looks. I would actually caution against doing this with the Notes tab. The results are unpredictable and in my experience it is not easy to change once you set it up.
I recommend you copy and paste your posts into your Notes tab.
I also recommend that you make sure that your title and content are things that are hot topics and things that would interest people. This will help you in getting your content noticed and commented on.
Always ask for comments! This also helps your post to be fed out to more users. Think of it as votes. The more votes you have the more popular your content is and the more Facebook will share it out.
