Hi I'm Cassie Burton and I'm so happy you're here!I haved lived with anxiety my whole life, the slow burn, constant hyper-vigilant kind. Always on high alert, high energy, moving a hundred miles an hour to stay in front of whatever my mind thought was chasing me. Turns out nothing was chasing me and my anxiety stems from childhood trauma. I invite you to join me, the Curiosity Junkie, on a journey inward. My mission is to explore and share ways to manage, soothe and understand trauma and the anxiety it creates. Today Jamie and I dive into the food sensitivity test results, taking a look at the foods that are causing me and my body issues.
I've been working with Jamie for about 7 weeks now and I am already seeing some success. I've lost inches in my mid-section (all bloating from food reactions), there is virtually no pain in my hands and my energy is on the rise.

The food journal has become my best friend, even if I don't always use it. I am learning so much about which foods cause me pain and which foods bring me pleasure.

If you would like to work with Jamie Trevathan or learn more about Jamie and her practice, you can contact Jamie at https://empacthealth.myflodesk.com/quantum

While journaling my food habits I discovered I was doing a bit of negative self talk, and that got me thinking...
Why do we talk negative to ourselves?
And how do we find ways not to talk negatively to ourselves?

Tracy Brady shares a few things throughout our conversation that we can do to help when we find we're in a negative conversation with ourselves.

My daughter and I talk about once a week. And everytime we talk, we say, that would've made a great podcast. So a few weeks ago on a Saturday morning we talked for almost 3 hours and recorded the whole conversation. I'm sharing the first hour of our conversation, and will follow it up with the 2nd part later this month.

Didn't do much editing so you are getting a very raw and real look at how our mother/daughter conversations typically go.

We talk about consistency, trauma, values, being a chameleon, female conditioning, being on the spectrum, ADHD, Trash TV, being a homebody, and wanting to choke someone out for breathing!

Enjoy!

As I walk into 2024 I'm realizing the health issues I learned about in 2023 havecontinued to decline. I was told my cholesterol was on the rise, my good estrogen was at zero and my bad estrogen was elevated, and I’ve been slowly putting on weight for over a year now.

My lack of action in 2023 leaves me with 2 options; go it alone, which has not worked for me so far. Or phone a friend (who also happens to be a functional nutritionist), and begin the process of working with my doctor and my nutritionist, to get my health back on track.

I'll be sharing each call I have with Jamie Trevathan throughout this process and this conversation is basically my intake call with Jamie.

Did you know that 9 out of 10 people will fail their new year resolutions?

Did you know that the average resolutions last about 3.74 months?

Yes, yes they will! And because failure of resolution setting is so common, there are unofficial dates commemorating resolution failure. I love this!!

We already know we are going to fail, so why not create a day to celebrate our failures.

The first one is called “Ditch New Year Resolutions Day” and it’s on January 17th.

The second one is unofficially called “Quitters Day” and it’s on the 2nd Friday in January. This year it happens to be January 12th and I will be in Kansas City to celebrate with the rest of you quitters. 😉🎉

And then there’s always June 1st, unofficially known as ”New Year Resolution Recommitment Day” where you can recommit to a resolution that didn’t serve you the first time around. Hahaha!

Happy New Year My Friends!

On Christmas day I woke up thinking about my sisters and all that we have been through together.
Which got me thinking about birth order and how that impacts how we show up within the family dynamic and maybe in everyday life.

Coming home to yourself.

2023 has been a big year of change for me, one filled with endings and new beginnings. And it was important for me to come home to myself and re-establish a healthy and loving relationship with myself.

Everything you desire in life is a reflection of your values.
Our dreams and our goals represent the things we care most about.
The things we feel we must have in order to express complete and true fulfillment.

Living in alignment with our values is an ongoing journey.
It requires lots of check-ins with yourself, lots of willingness to survey your life and do the work of letting go of whatever is not in alignment, and reprioritizing what is.

Why is it so challenging to feel like we belong with others, or in a group? Maybe it’s because we aren't in the practice of belonging to ourselves.
So what exactly is belonging?
Belonging is the feeling of security and support when there is a sense of acceptance, inclusion, and identity for a member of a certain group. When an individual can bring their authentic self.
Here’s the cool thing. When we have the courage to be our authentic true self, we begin to communicate to others with clarity, with confidence and with grace.

How do we do it and how do we know when we’ve done it?
It is so important to learn to listen to yourself, to come to know yourself. To be in a relationship with yourself and to be in an ongoing daily practice of tuning in to yourself.
Belonging is not a fixed end with an achievable moment. It's not like we check it off our to-do list and suddenly we belong. The work of belonging is a practice because we return home again and again to the truth of who we are and a check in with who we are becoming.
Belonging to yourself is a practice of deep listening and deep courage.
It’s about honoring yourself, acknowledging yourself and seeing yourself.

After all, you are the one who will journey with you through this entire life. You are the most important person to see you as you.

Gurudhan is a Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga Teacher in Kundalini.
He found himself fully immersed in the 60’s developing a 5 yr meth addiction, which he quit cold turkey and then took almost 20 years to clear his head.
He graduated from Brooklyn Law School and had a career in the “natural foods industry” as an executive sales manager.
For many years he fell into the numbing practice of “Spiritual Bypassing” until he found therapy. Somatic therapy, he says, changed his life. Today he teaches yoga his way, connecting the heart, breath and body.

Michelle was raised on a mountain in the Angeles National Forest where she learned to identify flora and fauna, navigate by the stars, forage for edible plants, and care for the earth. As an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, she has been teaching students and training teachers in southern California studios since 2008. Michelle’s memoir, Forager: Field Notes for Surviving a Family Cult, showcases her life growing up on an isolated mountain in California as part of an apocalyptic cult, and how she found her way out of poverty and illness by drawing on the gifts of the wilderness.

What is it about getting behind the wheel of a car that turns us all into racecar drivers? And why do some of us turn into complete and total assholes, forgetting everything we know about common courtesies.

Did you know, that the typical reaction time, for stopping at a light, without texting was between one and two seconds, but while texting it increased to three to four seconds, regardless of whether the driver was typing or reading a text. This is significant because at highway speeds a driver can travel the length of a football field in that time.

In this episode we learn what road rage is, why we get so angry and what steps we can take to prevent it.

Father’s Day is a time for people to celebrate the men in their lives. For children, it is a day to show appreciation for their fathers and father-figures. For adults, it is a day to show how much they love and appreciate the hard work of the fathers and husbands in their lives.

So how did Father’s Day get started? And what do you do on this day if you don’t have a healthy relationship with your father?

Let’s face it, when we have a difficult, or worse relationship with our dad, we can be filled with anxiety, unpleasant memories and depression, while our friends are celebrating with cards and gifts. It can remind us of the fathers we’ve loved and lost, fathers we never knew, fathers who left and never came back, and fathers who were abusive.

Join me and learn how you can have a healthier experience on this Father's Day.

This last week the topic of friendly vs friends in a leadership role, came up and it got me thinking.

Is there a right or a wrong here, or just some best practices to keep in mind while managing human beings? I’ll let you decide…

I believe that when we create these amazing work relationships that say “I’m here for you, and I support you and the job we do together.” When we feel safe, we can be vulnerable and brave, sharing openly and honestly, it will in turn, create a collaborative and focused work environment.

Imposter Syndrome/Phenomenon occurs among high achievers who are unable to internalize and accept their success. Those who suffer from IP often attribute their accomplishments to luck rather than to ability, and fear that others will eventually unmask them as a fraud.

Imposter Phenomenon is a real and specific form of intellectual self-doubt and can be accompanied by anxiety, perfectionism and often depression.

What if as a child you learned how to manage your thoughts and you knew that a thought was just a thought? Imagine how different your adult life would be if, as a child, when you got anxious you knew how to take a few deep breaths and calm your mind and let go of the past and the future thoughts so you could return to the present moment.

Author Nikki Hedstrom got curious about just that and created “A Thought Is A Thought” book for children and the family as a whole. The book is designed to help children and families to understand and process their thoughts. The book has practical exercises and practices that can be implemented and used on a daily basis.

The concept that a thought is a thought may seem hard to grasp, but it really is quite simple. A Thought is just a thought and we can let it go, it's not who we are , it doesn’t define us, and we can choose another one.

Perfectionism is the belief that everything must be perfect all the time. A perfectionist sets impossible goals, and feels crushed when they are not achieved.

Perfectionism can look like:

  • Having a very high standard for yourself. You should achieve goals faster and better than anyone else.
  • Focus on results over the process itself - outcome focused
  • Living in a highly critical state
  • Beating yourself up for any mistake dade- making it hard to learn from mistakes because they can be so paralyzing.
  • Your worth is tied to the outcome.

What is brainspotting?

It’s a mind/body therapy that works with your emotion brain instead of your thinking brain. When working with the emotion brain we are processing old narratives and old stories. We are reorganizing them in the brain and sometimes it looks like:

  • Gaining perspective on a situation
  • A new understanding on a situation
  • Grieving to shift the past to stay in the past.

Dr Talei says everything that happens in the gut is connected to all sorts of different systems. She starts by looking to see if your body can digest food and if your body is able to absorb the nutrients, because these provide the fuel for your brain, for your skin and basically everything in the body. It’s important to know if you are able to excrete toxins from your body.

These toxins and bacteria from the gut create, bloating, gas, frequent headaches, fatigue, and you see it in the skin. Our skin is a mirror for what’s going on inside of the body.

There are certain foods to avoid when it comes to overall health, like don’t eat processed foods, don’t eat foods where you don’t understand the ingredients.

And then in general there are 3 big food sensitivities.

  1. Dairy – most people can’t digest dairy which can cause inflammation for many people.

  2. Gluten – especially with all the glyphosates that they spray it with.

  3. Eggs – not that eggs are bad, it's that many people have a sensitivity to them.

So food sensitivity test are great for identifying what foods your specific body is reacting to.

What are Attachment styles and how do they impact our relationships?

Attachment styles are a habitual pattern of relating to others. Specifically significant relationships , like a parent, a romantic partner or maybe even a best friend. Mostly we are talking about how one responds relationally in these relationships around points of connection and disconnection. So, basically what we do when we start to feel insecure or dis-connected. Or when that sense of safety, closeness or trust with a partner feels threatened.

There are four different attachment styles

  1. Secure Attachment
  2. Anxious Attachment
  3. Avoidant Attachment
  4. Disorganized Attachment

Coming in, having that awareness, helps you sort of know when you're being triggered and you can pause. Then you can make a choice to have a different reaction or to respond in a different way.

Join the conversation with Dr. Jessica Waldron and Cassie Burton host of the Curiosity Junkie Podcast to learn more about attachment styles and how they impact our relationships.

What is self confidence?

Self-acceptance coach, Annie Gospodin says a better question to ask is, “What does confidence mean to me?” and see what comes up for you. Because ultimately we are the ones who decide.

Annie believes confidence is rooted in self-acceptance. It's not about the way we look or act, and it's not what the media portrays as confidence. It's also not something we are born with or without. We can always learn our version of self-confidence.

Here are a few to consider as you work to understand and define confidence.

  • What does confidence mean to me?
  • What have I observed as an example of confidence growing up?
  • What have I learned about confidence?
  • Do I perceive myself as confident? If not, why?
  • In what way do I see my friends as being confident?
  • How does their confidence align with my confidence?

Have you ever been curious about the world of Kink and Fetish?

Relationship and sex therapist, Paula Leech is here to enlighten and educate us about all things Kink and Fetish.

I have to say, for me, this conversation was an educational and eye-opening dive into understanding the dynamics, boundaries and communication that takes place within the kink community. An understanding we can apply within the “Vanilla” sexual experience.

Paula says Fetish is desire or arousal that’s linked to objects, material, body parts, types of people or types of bodies. It can be that the individual needs this thing to become aroused or it may be that this thing enhances the overall desire and arousal.

Kink encompasses any behaviors, lifestyles and relationship arrangements. For example it includes, non-monogamy, BDSM and basically anything that is not mainstream, “Vanilla” sex.

If we find ourselves curious and wanting to explore the world of kink, Therapist Paula Leech recommends we seek out resources. She says there are many resources that talk about how to incorporate elements of kink and fetish into our relationships. Several discuss how to navigate it with our partners and how to explore the kink world and the kink community safely.

Here are a few resources Paula shared:
Fetlife.com is a social network for the BDSM, Fetish and Kink Community. (like facebook, but for kinky people.)
A book that can help us understand and navigate the world of kink.

Today we are diving into Ayahuasca and the Ayahuasca Ceremony experience with Demi Faraday.

Ayahuasca is originally from the Amazon region in South America. It is made into a tea composed of the ayahuasca vine and a DMT containing plant, which is brewed for several days until you get a thick tea. This tea tastes a bit like your drinking something off the floor of the forest.

The vine is referred to as the vine of souls, and it contains the information and mother ayahuasca is considered to be a master plant teacher. The DMT works to take the rational mind off line, which allows one to enter into an altered state of consciousness and interdimensional awareness. Once in that state, the vine - mother ayahuasca shares her wisdom. And the wisdom is all about you, you and also us as a collective. How we as a human race are part of a larger ecosystem of plants, insects, animals, the sky, the clouds, the rain and everything that comprises our ecosystem.

Once you drink the tea it takes about an hour or so and once you are in that state, that is when the teaching begins. Mother Ayahuasca meets you right where you are. She will take you to what it is you need to look at or work on. You become more of an objective observer than a subjective experiencer. She will take you there and give you tools to help you process and heal.

Demi Faraday experienced hundreds of ceremonies before stepping into becoming an Ayahuasca ceremony leader. The Ayahuasca experience is not to be taken lightly as you are working with DMT. It is recommended that you research the facility and the leaders knowledge, experience and training prior to attending a ceremony.

Our relationships are there to bring us closer to who we were created to be. Relationships are very sacred. They are the mirror in which we have another opportunity to look at ourselves and our intentions become paramount.

Sometimes, in a relationship it’s not about the other person, it's about how we are feeling. And because there is a sense of risk involved when you first start taking care of yourself in a relationship it can be scary.  Eventually we need to be our authentic selves, and have someone love us for who we are. That is very important!

Your partner needs to know that they can trust you to take care of what you need.

We all want inner peace, but are we open to receiving this peace. Maybe we need to ask ourselves, "do I feel like I deserve peace?" And if we are avoiding peace, is it because we do not think we can be affective if we're peaceful. It is likely your inner voice is telling you people will think you are lazy or that you don't care if you have peace.

Finding inner peace is about planting seeds. It's about preparing ourselves.

Grab your journal and write down these questions.

  1. What ideas do you have about peace?

  2. What examples do you have for peace? Or how was peace expressed to you in your life?

  3. What do you associate with Peace? Is it drawing/art, skiing, sewing, yoga, music, etc.? You do not have to be lying on the floor to experience peace.

When you ask yourself these questions things will come up for you.

Sometimes peace comes when there is a resolution to something. ex: We do not have to figure something out; we can let ourselves off the hook for something we are dealing with. You can give yourself permission to not do something and then take the time to do something that brings you peace. ex: read, draw, sew, dance, music.

It's not so much about finding peace, it's more about cultivating an environment where peace can reside.

Creating a meditation practice can seem overwhelming when you can't even sit still for more than a couple of minutes. Tracy Brady talks about taking 30 seconds to connect with and be there for ourselves.

Once you decide to start a meditation practice, Tracy recommends asking yourself these questions:

  1. Why?
  2. What do I want from this?
  3. What is my goal?

After answering those questions, see if you can be present for yourself for 30 seconds, in silence. Allowing whatever thoughts, or sound or awarenesses come to you, to come and go. Just be there without abandoning yourself for a little bit.

Because, who's going to be there, if not us?

What makes some people want to explore the unknown? For Kristi Duarte it was traveling at a young age and seeing that basically we are all the same. She learned that at our core, most humans live in and come from a place of love. Which made her question why there was so much hate in the world.

Her passion for traveling the world and understanding different cultures and people, inspired her to write a book of “What If”. Like, what if the disciples of Jesus had been the ones to spread a message of Love and inclusion and acceptance? What a beautiful world it would be.

Kristi also discovered at a young age a deep connection to the spirit world and her intuition. She would see fireworks no one else could see. She could feel a spirit next to her, breathing as she would fall asleep at night, it was comforting and never scary. Today she is not only an Author, she is also a Reiki Healer who has helped many to release emotional blockages.

What is anxiety and how can we learn to cope with it? Anxiety is a bit like fear, It’s kind of fear’s twin. And actually, the root comes from a Latin word which means choking, which makes perfect sense when you think about it.

Anxiety usually involves something that is not true, something we are preparing for, something that doesn’t exist yet. We generally worry about the future. We know we can’t predict the future, we know that something bad “may” happen. And we know that we “may not” be able to prevent it. And so, that sense of powerlessness and just the humanness of it creates a sense of separation. We don’t like to feel separated from the group.

When these thoughts become a problem, is when we start taking actions based on those untrue threats that we see in the future, that may or may not happen. We do have the ability to create scenarios for ourselves to put us in either a very anxious state or in a very peaceful state.

One of the first ways you can do this is to ground yourself by bringing your mind into alignment with where your body is in this space, in this moment. Start by asking yourself, Where am I? Begin to feel the space between your feet and the floor, which requires some focus and the brain can only focus on one thing at a time.

Next, use this focus practice: use any 1 (one) of your senses. (Sight, smell, taste, touch, hear) Then name 3 things you can (insert one of the 5 senses).

Once you have put yourself in a position where the amygdala can relax, then you can ask the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that is capable of making logical decisions, to become engaged. And that is when we can start to say okay, and we can begin telling the body it is safe. You can tell the body that whatever it is scared of is not actually happening in this moment. You can tell the body it can relax and it can breathe.

When we leave this present moment we abandon ourselves and we need ourselves to be present, for ourselves in order to heal. We have to trust that we will always be there for ourselves. Something you can do to comfort yourself is place your hand on your heart, lower abdomen or even your forehead, whatever feels the most comfortable. What that tells the body is, it’s okay, I’m here for you, I hear you calling, what is it you are feeling.

When you stop and allow this feeling to be, you can investigate what is going on. Do you need a drink of water? Are you moving too fast? Are you doing too many things at once and causing yourself stress? Do you need to sit down for a few minutes? Are you resisting what you’re doing right now? Do you have to do it right now?

When you question what you're feeling, you can come to a quick conclusion about the thought you were having before you started to feel the anxiety.

Try these simple steps when you begin to feel anxious.

  1. Become aware- identify you are having anxious feelings or feelings of fear.
  2. Ground yourself - bring your attention back to the here and now. Think about the space between your feet and the floor.
  3. Now ask yourself to use one of your 5 senses to name three things you can…
  4. Begin to comfort yourself and tell yourself you are okay, you are safe.
  5. Then start to ask questions to understand what you are feeling. Do you need water? Do you need to slow down? Do you need to sit down?

Meditation is not about fighting against your mind, it’s about developing an understanding about it. So the struggle that you feel isn’t stopping you from meditating, it's actually your teacher. So, be curious and ask why can’t I sit still? Why is it so difficult? What is so difficult about doing nothing?

MIDL Meditation stands for Mindfulness In Daily Life. The MIDL could be pronounced “middle” and the Buddha mentions the middle way or path in his first talk. So MIDL meditation seeks to find that middle path, that middle balance.

The difference with MIDL Meditation is the understanding that seated meditation is just training for daily life. We sit down and use different exercises so we can learn skills. Skills like being able to self-observe, or being able to soften and relax our relationship towards things. Skills like the ability to sit and still the mind and be comfortable with nothing, to be comfortable with no stimulation at all. Once you develop these skills you can use them in the “Real Meditation”, which is being with friends and family, being in the workplace, being in Covid, or when things in life are out of our control.

When meditating for anxiety the most common mistake that is made, is the development of concentration. Using concentration for anxiety doesn’t work in the long run. Because the product of concentration is depression. So if you try to sit and meditate your mind will go everywhere, because the mind is scared.

There are two parts of the mind. The surface level which is where we interact and the more ancient part which is the survival part of the mind. The mind's job is to sort all of our experiences into 2 categories, is it safe or is it dangerous. And this all happens automatically and the mind uses past memory to interpret this.

Once we re-teach our body how to breathe, the experience of anxiety goes away. You can find this breathing technique on the MIDL Meditation website, under MIDL Meditation for Anxiety.

When dealing with anxiety it is important to be gentle with ourselves. And understand, what we’re dealing with is out of our control. What we’re dealing with is habit, our mind is habitual, our body is very habitual. The heart beats, the lungs breathe, and the mind thinks. The mind won’t stop thinking because we tell it to stop thinking. The mind is scared, so you have to help it feel safe. You have to tell the mind it is safe.

As we treat our mind and heart with a gentleness and respect (the way we would a scared child), the mind will gradually calm down and find safety, find quiet. And the thinking, which comes out of fear, also settles down and stops. You can never be too kind or too gentle with yourself. The struggle and frustration are the survival part of the mind being scared. They’re not you. It is the part of the mind trying to protect you.

So if we can understand that it is just fear in the mind, hold it gently, allow it to be there, teach it safety, it will come to an end and then stop.

Most of us experience some type of stress or anxiety on any given day. And because of that, most of us would like to learn how to manage our stress levels and our anxiety levels.

Jonathan Adams is here to help us understand the healing power of sound therapy. What is sound therapy and how can it help with stress and anxiety? Well it has a lot to do with our brain waves.
Understanding Our Brain Waves:

  1. Beta - which is our normal waking state
  2. Alpha and Theta - rest and digest, which are more meditative
  3. Delta - which is a deep sleep state

In fact, these states also reflect a different part of our nervous system. High Beta we are stressed, we have intrusive thoughts. The lower Beta is our normal problem solving state, which we are in most of the day. As a result, when we are in Alpha and Theta, our nervous system starts to move to the parasympathetic state. Which is our rest and digest state. It’s also a time of releasing stress, we’re in a time of safety. a time we can get into a meditative state.

In the lower Theta we can cross over from our intellectual thinking mind and into our more subconscious mind, some call this the waking dream state. Lower Theta is where we are crossing over to the subconscious. Delta is where we get into a deep sleep state. Gamma is the more rarely occurring state above Beta, which is associated with mystical experiences. Gamma, which transcends the stress of high Beta and gets into what some people call “super consciousness” where the mind opens up to a larger view of reality.

Most importantly, how does that help us with anxiety? Well, with sound therapy the subtle rhythms of the frequencies help our brain waves to move from those higher states like Beta and down into the meditation states of Alpha and Theta. Which occurs through the process called entrainment, which is essentially synchronization. Our minds have a natural tendency to latch onto those frequencies and follow them down into those meditative states. In fact, when we hear those gentle rhythms our minds just automatically begin to relax.

Self-Acceptance is when we put the work into knowing, understanding and owning and accepting who we are. All parts of ourselves that we rejected or denied. The parts we are ashamed of, or criticize, or feel are unworthy or not good enough or inadequate, unacceptable or bad. These are messages we get from our family and society. Once we understand and own these parts we can begin unpeeling the layers to get to our true self, who we really are.

We Can Begin by:

  • Creating awareness for what you are rejecting, denying, ashamed of, or feelings of being not good enough or unworthy.
  • Then ask yourself why do I feel this way and where did I learn to feel this way?
  • Pay attention to what is coming up, and begin to explore your stories and self-talk.

Then you can begin to look at your conditioning. What parts of myself did I learn to hide? What parts of myself am I ashamed of? What was I criticized for, praised for, allowed and not allowed to do.

Our inner child collects and stores so much of us, it stores our experiences, memories, needs, emotions. When our inner child is/was wounded it stores the unresolved emotions, the unmet needs which then creates triggers. Take the time to get to know your inner child, to find out what they need. Sitting with and learning what your inner child needs to feel loved and safe is powerful and not complicated.

Annie Gospodin reminds us that we are not alone in our Self-Acceptance journey. Annie openly shares her life experiences and journey to Unconditional Self-Acceptance.

Imagine turning 25 on the 25th, your "Golden Year", a year of great things happening. Now imagine finding out you have cancer that same year. Joy Soto’s story is an example of how sometimes the best things come from the worst moments of our lives.

Joy Soto found out she had cancer when she was 25 years old. Do you want to know what she did about it? She decided to film a documentary about her cancer journey, that's right a documentary. Why not, she was already in film school. She also decided that her cancer story was going to have a happy ending, a positive outcome. And that is exactly what happened!

Joy Soto is positive, resilient and has the most amazing smile and energy. I was honored to have her on the podcast to share her cancer survivor story and so much more. She’s been a Tedx Speaker, Dolphin Trainer, Cancer Survivor and Documentary Filmmaker. Joy Soto has won several awards for her Documentary, Just One Year - A Story Of Triumph Over Cancer.

Today she continues to be a strong role model for her daughters, those battling cancer and those being told they can't do what they want to do.

Join us as we talk about strength, vulnerability, having a positive outlook in difficult times and going after what you want no matter what.

Learning to forgive is how we let go of resentment. When we get hurt and decide not to forgive we are choosing resentment. We pay a high price when we can’t forgive, because it keeps us from moving on and moving forward. Holding on to resentment doesn’t mean they aren’t going to hurt us again. It is our responsibility to learn our boundaries with that person or situation.

If you can put yourself in a position, as an adult, to look back on some of the things that occurred in your childhood and ask yourself, is that something that affects me? Is it something that I had any control over and was it really about me?

Everything other people do is not about us, it’s about them. What you say and what you do may be influenced by other people, but you still have choices.

There’s a lot that goes into working up to forgiveness and a lot of it is self-reflection.

Going back to a section of the serenity prayer: grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change (which is everything other people have experienced, are thinking, are doing); the courage to change the things I can (which is everything I can change within myself. My ideas, my beliefs, the way I was raised, the vows that I told myself, the path that I’m on, forgiveness of self and others, my internal perspective); and the wisdom to know the difference. And yet, we want to change other people so we don’t have to look inside and deal with our own stuff.

Holding on to resentment is like drinking poison hoping the other person will die.

So, you just went Vegan, now what? What to learn how to prep and cook Vegan dishes without being overwhelmed. Erica Stephens makes cooking easy, with tutorials, classes and a cookbook to help you better understand what foods to eat and how to eat them for a healthy Vegan lifestyle.

Erica's story, I hate to admit, is fairly typical in the US, with the Standard American Diet. She was suffering from diabetes, migraines, high blood pressure and a multitude of other illnesses causing her to take 14 different doctor prescribed medications. She was depressed, facing memory loss and was told she would be living the rest of her life on at least 14 different medications.

I am happy to say that Erica Stephens has been medication free for over 2 years simply by changing to a plant based lifestyle. Luckily, her daughter was Vegan and helped her regain her memory and her health by eating a plant based diet. She is still on the path to recovering her health and is dedicated to helping others do the same. She has created a Facebook group, Website and Cookbook to help new Vegans learn to cook and eat healthy.

Erica Stephens and her daughter have their first cookbook out now and they are working to release a second cookbook by the end of the year (2020). They are planning to open a catering business / Food Truck soon. Erica offers online classes for those who are becoming Vegan or those who are simply interested in learning more about eating and living a healthier lifestyle.

Todays episode is part 2 of Love, Acceptance and Belonging with Nancy Haboush. Join us as we discuss journaling, Meditation, running, loving yourself, forgiveness and unbecoming everything that you are to become what you want to be.

Journaling - is about writing down all the stuff that is heavy on your heart, that doesn't usually come up and out in everyday conversations. Work to create a ritual, whatever that looks like for you. Find your happy peaceful place... meditation, walk in nature, listening to music, whatever ignites your creative side.

Running - We are all running from something and eventually we find that we can't run forever. Whatever you are running from will eventually catch you and take you down. It's so easy to want to help others, but if we work on and help others, we can not be working on ourselves. We can not find ourselves in others work. We have to do our own work to find ourselves.

When you learn to stop fighting the flow of energy that is positive, loving and affirming. In stead of listening to the I'm not good enough, the must keep running, keep helping others, and looking for the answer in everything else. When you stop and listen you can begin to forgive and unbecome all you are, so you can then create the you, you want to become.

We all want to belong to something bigger than ourselves. And yet we find it difficult to show up and be our authentic selves and instead show up being what others want us to be.

Nancy Haboush shares her journey to discovering her authentic self while unbecoming all she was taught she should be to fit in and be like everybody else. She shares this quote with us, "Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything. Maybe it's about un-becoming everything that really isn't you so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place."

The definition of belonging from Brene' Brown: "True belonging is the spiritual practice of believing in and belonging to yourself so deeply, that you can share your most authentic self with the world and find sacredness in both being apart of something and standing alone in the wilderness."

Acceptance can be connected to feelings of loneliness, because let's face it we all have to be alone at some point in our lives. Acceptance defined (short version) is receiving what is given. So why is that so hard to do?

Because it's about how we perceive that and what we tell ourselves about that acceptance. And this can cause one to feel as if they have no hope. Acceptance doesn't mean we have to like it. Our brains and our egos are always trying to get us to a place where we can be happy.

When we help someone else or contribute to something, just a small act can empower us and touch that place in us that knows that we are not just our job. That knows that we have value beyond what we have attached ourselves to, and that can be enough spark to get you to want to do more.

Our need to connect is important, and yet many of us still feel alone. Loneliness is the state of distress or discomfort that results when one perceives a gap between one’s desires for social connection and actual experiences of it. Even people who are surrounded by others all day still experience a deep loneliness.

There is research suggesting that loneliness poses serious threats to our well-being and long-term physical health, and a number of unfavorable outcomes have been linked to loneliness. In addition to its association with depressive symptoms and other forms of mental illness, loneliness is a risk factor for heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and arthritis, among other diseases.

Lonely people are also twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease, research suggests. The state of chronic loneliness may trigger adverse physiological responses such as the increased production of stress hormones, hinder sleep, and result in weakened immunity.

Join Tracy Brady and I as we discuss ways to help shift your mindset to a more connected state of being. We also talk about the importance of working with a counselor to help guide you through the process. Our bodies are Radical. They have created ways to communicate with us and to show us when they are not in balance. This communication generally takes the form of "symptoms". Because this is how our bodies communicate with us, we need to not just treat these symptoms or suppress them. Instead we need to go beyond just treating the symptoms, to uncover their root causes.

Symptoms or malfunction in any area, left unchecked or not corrected by the body, will cascade downstream into other areas, leading to more symptoms and disease. To experience radical change we must look upstream, discover what needs fixing, and fix it. identifying these root causes, we can fix what is really wrong with a person instead of just chasing symptoms.

Your symptoms may stem from one, or a few, imbalances or malfunctions in your body, not directly connected to the symptoms you are feeling. This is described as Metabolic Chaos™. By addressing the root causes, we can stop using band aids that give only temporary relief and actually heal what is creating these symptoms instead.

What is an "Invincible Immune System"? It is an immune system that easily fends off viral (and other infectious) threats with potent antiviral/antimicrobial weapons. Then it quickly stops the attack to avoid damaging healthy tissue.*

Let's be real. Who has a "perfect" lifestyle to create an ideal "Invincible Immune System"? Likely no one. The good news is we don't need perfect, we just need improvements to boost our immune balance while reducing our exposure to toxic stress, overwork, lack of sleep, toxins, and pathogens.*

Tracy Brady and I discuss what boundaries are and why they are important to create and how they can be fluid and ever changing as we grow.

We also talk about how we can teach the next generation to create healthy boundaries and how to respect others boundaries.

Does fear keep you from living your best life? Have you wanted to do something, but don't because you are worried about failing or what others might say or think? Or maybe your fear of the unknown keeps you from fully connecting to the world around you.

I believe at one point in our lives we have all been crippled by fear. Fear of failure, fear of disappointing others, fear of getting hurt, fear of being left out, fear of those beliefs that are different from our own. It's natural to have some fear, its how the brain works to protect us from things that can harm us.

However most fear can be overcome and we can live a fear free life if, we can learn to become observers of our thoughts and not participants in it. Most of us become identified with our thoughts, we begin to think that our thoughts are who we are. We are not our thoughts!

Join Tracy Brady and I as we talk about the steps to becoming the observer of our thoughts. Tracy's sports analogy is, once again, spot on for helping us visualize for deeper understanding.

Have you ever wondered who does the aerial imaging for mapping? Ever wondered how it's done, or who does it, or why they do it?

Join me as I talk aerial imaging with Bryan Porter, owner of SkyLens Aerial Imaging. Learn how Bryan Porter went from being in a high school rock band to owning and operating a multi-million-dollar company.

Bryan has been underestimated more than once and yet he never gives up. He knows what it takes to make things happen and he's not afraid of hard work. In fact, he and his partner found themselves working 100+ hrs. a week while trying to get SkyLens up and running.

When things got tough, and they did, he held out, and found himself at the top. Along the way Bryan also found true love from an amazing woman, Melissa, who supports and encourages Bryan to follow his passion/purpose, wherever that may lead.

The story takes us from high school, long hair, and rock bands to living in Louisiana and flying high in the sky.

**Have you ever been disappointed in the way someone showed up for you? Or maybe you've been disappointed in the way you showed up for someone else. Why do we silently put unrealistic expectations on ourselves and those we love? And who are we to decide the evolutionary timeline of someone else's growth? Especially since we can't tell someone the evolutionary timeline of our own growth.

I think it was Glennon Doyle I heard sharing a conversation she had with her daughters. She was telling them it was okay to disappoint others in order to not disappoint themselves. She told them especially when it comes to me, you can disappoint me as long as you don't disappoint yourself. I thought it was such a powerful message to share with her children.

Expectations in the positive sense give rise to hope, and if we don't have hope we don't always want to live or continue to do a job that might be proving difficult.

Something you can do is always pay attention to your motives. Because your motives change. Your motive for getting up this morning will be different than your motive for getting up a month from now.

Remember, we can in no way know what other people's motives are in any given moment.

And what a great topic for an episode with Tracy Brady!

Join us as we discuss making promises to ourselves and others we can't keep and the disappointment that comes with that broken promise. It was interesting to discover we do this in response to self protection! It has to do with the Fight, Flight or Flee response in us.

This is truly a fascinating conversation. I hope you enjoy and discover the power and light you hold within yourself.

Does your mind identify as male or female? Imagine waking up to find your male or female mind trapped in the body of the opposite sex. Sounds like something out of a Twilight Zone movie. However, it's real life and there are many who identify with being trapped in the wrong body. So, What do you do? Who do you tell? Will they think you're crazy? Are they going to assume it's a phase? Are they going to want to medicate you or worse send you to a reconditioning camp in the middle of nowhere? And yes, that's a thing!

I know, beyond any doubt, my mind and inner spirit identify as female and I can't imagine being trapped in a male body. That my friends is exactly how our guest felt, trapped in the skin of a body he couldn't identify with. And in order to live his most authentic life, he had to tell the world he was in the wrong body. And then he had to endure all the judgement and rejection of those who can't possibly understand and most likely feared him. Those who fear the unknown.

This young man has endured the judgement, the fear in others eyes and the rejection. However, with love and support from family, a few true friends and the heart of one special human, he has survived and come out the other side a happy, confident and very funny human being. Sebastian is one of the bravest humans I know. He is also one of the kindest people on the planet. His story is amazing and fascinating. He graciously shares his journey with us to help others who may be struggling to live their most authentic life. He speaks openly about his journey and his future.

Join us for a lesson in unconditional love.

We all have that little voice inside our heads talking to us 24/7. But have you ever stopped to think about what it's actually saying? Maybe the deeper question is, why is it talking to us at all?

Join special guest Tracy Brady and I as we discuss "Monkey Mind Brain Chatter." Why is it there and what is it trying to tell us? Tracy explains how she likes to look at the brain chatter. She reminds us that the brain is an organ, it's not who we are. Our thoughts are not who we are. Our thoughts are part of what the brain does. She also reminds us that we are separate and can direct our thinking. The brain's purpose is to think! It is designed to protect us, to warn us and to think pretty much non-stop.

Tracy has a gift for analogies and her "rain" analogy in this talk is spot on!

Join the discussion and learn how to work "with" your brain and the constant chatter. Learn how to make your mind your friend.
