HiPNOTT Records was founded in 2009 by hip hop blogger Kevin Nottingham (of KevinNottingham.com) in an effort to release good music by artists that deserve to be heard. This is the first instance of a hip hop blogger branching out to form an independent label.
HiPNOTT Records’ goal is to continuously build their artists’ resumes and consistently develop an image that hip hop will have no choice but to admire. With Kevin Nottingham at the helm, a man who certainly respects the past, present, and future of the genre, it is hard to deny the capability of reaching these goals amongst others.
For “Straight Drop”, I wanted something that got right to who Franklin was becoming, while still not fully getting to who he totally became. At this point in the album, Franklin has started his new career path and has seen some of the fruits of his labor, but more importantly he sees what probably lies ahead, and it’s inspiring him to mash on the gas. I wanted the beat to be a trunk rattler, reflecting the aura of dope boys riding around to something that would act as a theme song for them, regardless of if the story being told on it is predicting what their future outcome may be. The brash bravado, the acknowledgment of this whole new world, the spotlight, all while trying to keep a mask on for anonymity; “you can thank me in advance, don’t even mention it…”. It all comes together on a song that on the first listen is a head nodder, and by the third is a red light of what’s to come. The Other Guys nailed what I was going for sonically, leaving room for me to bring it home, full swing. “So picture me comparing the look on a junkie’s face/ to the look on my mama’s face when her money’s late/ and we’re mirror to mirror, there’s no cutaways/ so excuse me for choosing to peak the other way…” -Skyzoo

City For Sale is a breakup album. A relationship album. Instead of a woman its about my hometown...YOUR hometown...your old way of living. Growing apart from a place, from people, from who you once were. Because i'm from a currently gentrifying city that theme is on the surface of the album but the overall narrative is for any person that feels unfamiliar in a space that was currently familiar to them. This album is me finding my new comfort zone because I have to.
This City For Sale album is the first time I've produced an entire album on my own including making every beat. Even Donwill's "One Word No Spaces" LP (which I'm credited as the producer) was co produced and co arranged by Donwill. Thats something we always wanted to do. City For Sale is another personal goal for me. I've been afraid to do an entire album alone until now....if this shit is wack its all my fault. With that said this is my calling card album. This is the one I will hopefully be known for when its all said and done.
For Donwill’s® HiPNOTT Records debut he teams up with his Tanya Morgan cohort Von Pea to tap into a bit of that group chemistry for himself. The duo locked in to create ‘One Word No Space’ which serves as the MC’s first full length solo outing since Don Cusack in High Fidelity (2010). Von Pea’s signature ‘bat crack’ sound provides an ample bed of hard drums and emotive loops for Don to bare his soul over and reintroduce himself to those who may not be in the know. Clocking in at 35 min the album is a jarring jaunt with high replay value and features that include Quelle Chris, Paul Barman, Theory Hazit, Von Pea, ilyas, Rob Cave and several other Lessondary spitters. "I wrote Hold Ya Head, to remind myself and others that in these troubling and divisive times, whether you choose war or peace, you have to stay mindful not to get so lost that you forget what your fighting for. When you give in to fear, hatred, and intolerance, even in opposition you reflect it and will lose both the fight and yourself. So meditate, write it down, shout it out, find an outlet, find a way to Hold Ya Head and you'll be goodie." - Rob Cave

HiPNOTT Record Artist, Intelligenz goes on tour with the greatest story teller himself, Slick Rick for his first “Home Coming Tour” in the United Kingdom and drops her new single “Welcome To The Grind”. The iconic and London born legend, fresh off his naturalized U.S. citizenship victory, captivated audiences with his highly anticipated tour. Touching five cities in the U.K. including Manchester, London, Bristol, Birmingham, Dublin Ireland and ending in Brighton he left listeners in tears, overwhelmed and fulfilled.
Intelligenz is the first emcee that just so happened to be female, going on tour with “The Ruler”. A Chicago native, now residing in the DMV area, she has been humbly hitting stages and getting cosigned by the veterans of Hip-hop for some time now. Previously opening for MC Lyte, Rakim, Rah Digga, Masta Ace, Lord Finesse and many more, the female wordsmith has been making her rounds in the industry. While on tour in the UK, Intelligenz’ connection with the audience was embraced and she was rendered a healthy Round of Applause. So much, she was invited to kick off the Redman, Method Man and De La Soul show in Paris, debuting her new single, “Welcome To The Grind”.
Intelligenz has been the hidden diamond in the rough for quite a while though she won MC Lyte’s “Next Top Female MC” competition. Competing against female emcees from all over the country in a cypher style arena, Intelligenz walked away with the crown. This new single, "Welcome To The Grind", touches on her journey of trying to break through the glass ceiling created for female emcees with hopes of reigniting the passion of lyrical content being spotlighted for female lyricists. Get to know this gem breaking barriers for what females in Hip-Hop should sound like, look like, speak like and think like – she is the change many have craved.

NYC freestyle stalwart and eMC rhymesayer Wordsworth connects with Baltimore producer JSOUL on the upcoming HiPNOTT Records release, Blame It On The Music.
When asked about the project, Wordsworth said, "Once I heard JSOUL's beats, the diversity caught my attention. Immediately my mind start racing with ideas and we started vibing to make something solid. We decided on the title 'Blame It On The Music' because it seems like the music is another excuse for society. Instead of a healthy dialogue just blame the culture of the youth." Wordsworth continued by mentioning, "HiPNOTT Records represents quality and integrity of music. It’s a home for artists and producers creativity but a movement of motivation."
Their stark cohesiveness is put on full display on the new single, "Satellite." JSOUL provides a wicked baseline and alluring vocal sample as the perfect backdrop for Wordsworth's vivid poetics that serves as a reminder that the struggle is real is this Cold Cold World.
Blame It On The Music drops September 23rd. Pre-order your copy now on compact disc or mp3 and receive an immediate download of the first two singles ("Blame It On The Music" and "Satellite").

If timing is everything then JSOUL and Wordsworth are right on schedule with their new single "Blame It On The Music", the title track to their upcoming album to be released September 23rd on HiPNOTT Records. "Blame It On The Music" has Wordsworth not accepting blame for the systems failures over an aggressive Hip-Hop/Funk infused track by HiPNOTT producer JSOUL.
The eMC rhymesayer uses his bully pulpit to spit, “Police are steady hunting men/ your back they put a dozen in/ behind you running plates and they putting numbers in/ Suffering, Democrats, Republicans they governing/ Politicians not to help but for wealth they run again.” Highlighting societies insecurities and informing that the music won’t be a scapegoat. The only ones to blame for your speakers throbbing, head nodding, is this incredible music from JSOUL and Wordsworth.

After releasing his debut single "Think About April" this past spring on HiPNOTT Records, Baltimore emcee Greenspan is ready to unleash his upcoming magnum opus, Never Gon Die. Featuring various producers and emcees from the local Baltimore scene, Never Gon Die embodies the sound of Baltimore and exemplifies the best of what underground Hip Hop has to offer today.
When asked about Greenspan and the new album, HiPNOTT Records owner Kevin Nottingham said, "Greenspan is an extremely talented emcee, performer, and writer. He understands his sound and his audience and poured his soul into crafting this album; and it shows. Never Gon Die is one of the most cohesive Hip Hop albums I have heard in a long time. I honestly haven't heard a Hip Hop album this great since Kendrick's 'Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City'."
The album's title track "Never Gon Die" is an intentional marriage between Hip Hop and Baltimore club music, featuring an explosive verse from TT The Artist and production by Michael J.R. Look out for the video to drop soon!

After years in the making, MarQ Spekt and METAL FACE Records' MOBONIX are ready to unleash their highly anticipated project Bionic Jazz. And fans will not have to wait much further, as the album is set for release next Friday.
Bionic Jazz is a freeform hip hop album with a concentration on an unorthodox, somewhat experimental, but wholly organic feel. It's reminiscent of when jazz musicians would just pick up their instruments and play freely without worrying about the confines of what was the expected norm. In addition to MarQ Spekt and MOBONIX, the album features various musicians and producers (from the likes of Lex Boogie, Blockhead, Koredebt, Kool AK from The Micranots, Bean One, and The Metal Fingered Villain Doom) coming together to break down the barriers of today's current musical atmosphere.
Check out the Blockhead-produced single, "Still Right In". Bionic Jazz is available now for pre-orders on compact disc and mp3.

With new direction and a new single, The Regiment debut their new podcast to coincide with the announcement of New World Culture. In this introduction to their podcast, OSI and Iseqold discuss their new direction and explain to their fans what to expect going forward.
http://theregiment.hiphop
The Regiment have been around for over a decade in the rap game, so making changes and reinventing themselves comes with the territory. 2016 is no different... a new direction and a new single. From their forthcoming project New World Culture scheduled for completion later this year The Regiment releases their new single “One Step”.
Produced by Newstalgia, "One Step" is not only a debut for the upcoming album, but also for the new creative direction and sound of The Regiment. After their last full release, Live From Coney Island, The Regiment have adapted their sound to a fully gospel inspired message. Since pushing the envelope is common place for the Detroit native MC’s we should expect this album to be no different; classic Hip Hop sound with heart touching lyrics and golden era production.
Secular or Gospel, we have come to expect an amazing message by practical means from The Regiment and it looks as if 2016 will be more of the same. Moving forward, all new music from The Regiment will be available for FREE DOWNLOAD via their Bandcamp. This decision was made in order to more easily spread their message while giving back to their fans. Grab the new single below!

For the second leak off JSOUL's upcoming remix project, the Baltimore producer/singer gets down to his R&B roots with an Extended Funked Out Mix of D'Angelo's "Devil's Pie". Originally produced by DJ Premier for the 2000 album Voodoo, JSOUL's version of "Devil's Pie" brings out the funk and really showcases JSOUL's production skills.
Check out the track below and lookout for the entire remix project to drop in July.
As a kid born in 1980 and being privileged to witness Hip Hop's rise from its start into the Golden Era & beyond, JSOUL wanted to pay homage by taking it back to a time where lyrics mattered and the beats were crafted to paint pictures with cinematic accuracy. In Hip Hop, the beats made you fall in love with the artist just as much as the artist made you fall in love with the beats.
JSOUL tells us, "When I first started producing music, I made up in my mind that I wanted to make music that gave me the same feeling I had when I first heard, Enter The Wu, ILLmatic, Ready To Die, Midnight Marauders, Reasonable Doubt, Doe Or Die, My Life, Do You Want More, Fantastic vol 2., Like Water For Chocolate, The Score, Baduizm, etc. Those were the albums that were the soundtrack to my life when I was in high school growing into a man. That head nod, that feel good, that real."
On his new remix project, JSOUL Remixed It, JSOUL pays homage to that time and attempts to be a bridge from the music lovers of his generation to the future generation of hip hop heads.
"I wanted cats from my era to hear these re imagined songs and fall in love with the songs all over again. Take them back with new beats and never lose the integrity of the song. I wanted to match each artists feel perfectly but with my own spin on it, while perhaps introducing the younger cats to the artist and songs that created the foundation for them to stand on." - JSOUL

In promotion for their upcoming album dropping at the end of the month, Lessondary enlists DJ Low Key to provide a mix of Lessondary crew tracks from over the years. The 10 year collective has collaborated on each other's solo work over the years and now you can hear them all in one mix.
Lessondary's debut collective album, Ahead of Schedule, arrives June 24th.
Following the success of their collaborative albums with Von Pea and Substantial, DMV production duo The Other Guys return with their new album, Life in Analog. Busting at the seams with the soulful sounds and hard hitting drums the duo has been known to provide, Life In Analog features guitarist Brian Woods and bassist Mitch Beer, with vocal performances from veteran artist Skyzoo, Tanya Morgan, Kooley High & Substantial. Life In Analog careens through tales of friendship, family, and the everyday grind.
Kicking off the first single is the Kooley High assisted "For My People". Life In Analog will be available worldwide on July 22nd and can be preordered on Compact Disc and Mp3. Preorders will receive an immediate download of "For My People".
This past week on The Platform (HiPNOTT Records' premiere radio program hosted by DeeJay Crank), we were treated to a 60 minute show dedicated to the label's vast catelog, past and present. During this hour long mix, DeeJay Crank spun new singles from LiKWUiD, Greenspan, P.SO and more. He also threw in a ton of classic cuts from The Regiment, Intelligenz, Von Pea, and The Other Guys; and gave us three world premieres from Bop Alloy, Deep, and Lessondary.
You can catch DeeJay Crank on The Platform every Tuesday and Friday evening from 6pm - 7pm EDT on radio.hipnottrecords.com.

On this second single from Substantial's upcoming EP with fellow Bop Alloy producer Marcus D, the Maryland rhymespitter raps about the path of life. We all have a different path to travel, and the right way is not neccessarily set in stone.
Sub cleverly weaves together the story of his journey with the various train stops he grew up near in the DMV area and later in New York City.
Not everyone will take "The Sub Way"... we all have to find our own way.

Synthaesthesia is a neurological condition where two senses entwine. In this case when P.SO heard that 2 Hungry Bros beat, he tasted Moo Goo Gai Pan and then invited K.Gaines and LiKWUiD to partake in the feast that is now being shared with you.
The Paleo Tuesday tradition continues with P.SO & 2 Hungry Bros' "Moo Goo Gai Pan" featuring K. Gaines and newly signed HiPNOTT emcee LiKWUiD. Last Friday, Deep's second album, Bushwick Beatfeed was released on cassette and digital format. Maybe the beat on this song will intrigue your pallate for some more of Deep's unique seasonings.

HiPNOTT Records is proud to announce the addition of Baltimore emcee Greenspan (@greenspanmusic) to its 2016 artist roster. We first introduced you to Greenspan last year on the JSOUL (@jsoul-aka-black-sinatra) single "Secret Life of Purp" off JSOUL's album The Purple Symphony. To bring things full circle, it was only right for the Baltimore duo to team up again for Greenspan's debut single on HiPNOTT, "Think About April". This track is the first single from Greenspan's forthcoming album, Never Gon' Die, set for release this spring on HiPNOTT Records.
"Think About April" is available today for download as a deluxe maxi-single, which includes explicit, clean, and instrumental versions of the single, as well as the b-side "Secret Life of Purp" and its instrumental.
After releasing EPs with both The Other Guys (The Past...) and Algorythm (Always), Substantial prepares for the upcoming release of his full length LP The Past Is Always Present In The Future with this latest EP, Present, produced by fellow Bop Alloy producer Marcus D.
Kicking things off is the first single, "Party With Purpose" featuring Steph the Sapphic Songstress on vocals. Pre-orders for the EP are available now on Bandcamp. Present drops on May 27th.

HiPNOTT continues the #PaleoTuesday releases with "Rolling" by LiKWUiD & 2 Hungry Bros featuring P.SO the Earthtone King. After the "Hungry Four" aka The Hunger Division, hit the road and rocked with The Other Guys and Substantial in Virginia and rocking Meridian 23 with Likwuidity Band last night for Mazzi's PH PLATFORM, the crew is putting out the call and letting all know they're set to wreck a stage in your town.

After announcing Deep's new solo album Bushwick Beatfeed and in light of all the ass kicking that Bernie Sanders seems to be delivering on the podium and social media, P.SO & 2 Hungry Bros deliver an "Open Palm Strike". Stone Throw's Homeboy Sandman and Brooklyn's Kung Fu Bum, K.Gaines join P.SO over signature 2 Hungry Bros horns with bass, organ keys, and hard drums. P.SO & 2 Hungry Bros serve up some more delicious and nutritious Hip Hop on this #PaleoTuesday.

"Rocapuria" is the first sneak peak into the second Hip Hop Beat Tape by Deep of the 2 Hungry Bros, named Bushwick Beatfeed. Feel free to enjoy the song named after a "Rocking Alcapurria." An alcapurria is a Puerto Rican Cuchifrito made with deep fried yautia and green plantain and stuffed with a meat of choice.
Deep returns with his real hard New York style which has been featured in many independent and Underground Hip Hop albums like Homeboy Sandman's upcoming Stones Throw release, Kindness For Weakness. Deep celebrates a "Quinciñera" with Bushwick, his current Brooklyn neighborhood after the Lower East Side, in Bushwick's Swanky self titled Short Stay Hotel. Each track is a ghost for the different rooms in the two story hotel that represents elements of the currently gentrified Bushwick. Deep employs his signature experimental Boom Bap with Latin Spice to paint a musical landscape and once again pay homage to another zipcode in New York City. Pre-Order your Limited Edition Cassette or Digital album today.

Let's face it, love is a four letter word. Like all the other four letter words, love can mean so many different things depending on the connotation, the situation, and the emotion behind the expression. But how can this short noun/verb make you feel like you're on top of the world one second and then confined within the pits of hell a heartbeat later?
In "Love Ain't Easy" (Sincerely Fay), LiKWUiD & 2 Hungry Bros present the cyclical landscape of the unknown by examining love passed, love missed and love sought after. With the help of Harlem crooner Husain Williams, "Love Ain't Easy" serves as the 3rd installment to the forthcoming album Fay Grim from HiPNOTT Records.

Poppy seeds... because raw rap rocks, right? The urban opiate for the masses (Hip Hop) disseminated throughout the world, comes back to one of its purest forms in this remix of P.so's song, "Poppy Seed", which was produced by 2 Hungry Bros for the HiPNOTT album, Gateway to Greatness.
This time P.so and the 2 Hungry Bros bring former Braggin Rites battle emcee, current fitness trainer, and always rhyme machine gun I Am Many (formerly Many Styles) on the track to expose everyone to the radioactive isotope in Hip hop; LYRICISM over a Hard Beat.
In continuation of #paleotuesday this week at HiPNOTT, we present "Hold That" (Faybles) by LiKWUiD & 2 Hungry Bros featuring P.so the Earthtone King and Donwill of Tanya Morgan. Labelmate emcees collaborate to give you their experience with people that just won't let go. Some things are worth holding on to, that's not the case in the 3 scenarios presented. There are 3 sides to every fable..."yours, mine and the truth." In the spirit of letting go of salty bar owners, clingy lovers, jealous frenemies, or other individuals who do not deserve the time and space of day, "Hold That" (Faybles) offers an escape plan for folks that are just ready to move forward. Tired of being outcasted, misinterpreted or just shut out by your peers? Then here is the gateway to redirecting that energy back to the source...hold that! The 2 Hungry Bros lend their magic by providing a melodic canvas with signature heavy alternating drums and sinister deep loops and chops. Enjoy "Hold That" (Faybles) which will be featured on the LiKWUiD and 2 Hungry Bros project "Fay Grim".
"What Happened to Sandra Bland?
P.SO the Earthtone King and 2 Hungry Bros. collaborate on this heavy banger, featuring LiKWUiD, called "American Apartheid". The two emcees tackle the persistent itch under the skin of America's racism. P.SO questions his role in today's cultural landscape while LiKWUiD shares a story of being pulled over by the police. The two MC's use Hip Hop to vent their personal frustrations in a positive way. 2 Hungry Bros. provide a dark, piano-laced soundscape for P.SO and LiKWUiD to share their views.
HiPNOTT Records in unison with 2 Hungry Bros., P.SO and LiKWUiD will be releasing a series of their musical treats on select Tuesdays for you listening pleasure. #PaleoTuesday

The 2 Hungry Bros have continued to provide mcees like HomeBoy Sandman and HiPNOTT’s own P.SO the Earthtone King amongst several, with exciting soundscapes to carry their profound lyrical artistry. Now as family guys, one of the bros, Deep, is sharing a collection of beats that define his experiences in New York City’s Pre Gentrified Lower East Side. Each beat is a dedication to elements which contributed to the 2 Hungry Bros dark and brooding yet energetic and playful sound. As a long time student of theology, Deep is also addressing the term known as Objective Immortality with the albums content and cover art. This album is the soundtrack to the magic in that old hood comprised of Puerto Rican & Dominican Santeros, Chinese Mystics, Jewish Kabbalists, and more. This is the legacy Deep is leaving for his son and all lovers of Hip Hop music.

Them That Do..... and you're damn right. "Do" was the right verbiage chosen to represent this group made up of 3 emcees (Phat Hentoff, Jasper Brown, and Chuck Daily) and a beatmaker/producer (Small Professor). Yes, we live in a digital age where collaborations need not occur on a face-to‐face basis, but when they do, it's quite special. It takes effort for grown men, each with their own individual aims, aspirations, families, and livings to make, to assemble collectively, build with each other, and create music. Songs don't build themselves and writers don't all relate to each other, which is what makes the cohesiveness of this unit stand out. Jazz samples and dusty breaks forge the sonic scenery across the length of their upcoming debut album, albeit with a sense of modernity, simply "being", as opposed to "trying to be".
For the first single, "Arrowheads", Them That Do team up with Grammy nominated singer/producer Muhsinah. Check it out and pre-order the album now, which drops on January 15th.

P.SO and the 2 Hungry Bros are more than your typical New York based MC/Producer group. Vintage vinyl fiends and food enthusiasts, the 2 Hungry Bros select only the finest samples for production in the same way a chef uses prime ingredients for his meal.
P.SO (the Earth tone King) borrows his name from the famous painter Picasso, with the intention of creating pieces of art with every new song. Together, these long time collaborators have worked on dozens of records over the past 7 years but now are ready to release their debut EP.
Prolific beats, creative lyrics and features from Tanya Morgan, Substantial, Likwuid and more, Feast of Legend will prove to be a fundamental addition to any Hip-Hop catalogue. Save room for dinner, the Feast is upon us.
The first single is the EP's leading track, "Headphone Diaries". Feast of Legend will be a digital only release and is available for pre-order now via iTunes, Amazon, and Bandcamp. Pre-order via Bandcamp to receive an immediate download of "Headphone Diaries".
