HiPNOTT Records was founded in 2009 by hip hop blogger Kevin Nottingham (of KevinNottingham.com) in an effort to release good music by artists that deserve to be heard. This is the first instance of a hip hop blogger branching out to form an independent label.
HiPNOTT Records’ goal is to continuously build their artists’ resumes and consistently develop an image that hip hop will have no choice but to admire. With Kevin Nottingham at the helm, a man who certainly respects the past, present, and future of the genre, it is hard to deny the capability of reaching these goals amongst others.
For “Straight Drop”, I wanted something that got right to who Franklin was becoming, while still not fully getting to who he totally became. At this point in the album, Franklin has started his new career path and has seen some of the fruits of his labor, but more importantly he sees what probably lies ahead, and it’s inspiring him to mash on the gas. I wanted the beat to be a trunk rattler, reflecting the aura of dope boys riding around to something that would act as a theme song for them, regardless of if the story being told on it is predicting what their future outcome may be. The brash bravado, the acknowledgment of this whole new world, the spotlight, all while trying to keep a mask on for anonymity; “you can thank me in advance, don’t even mention it…”. It all comes together on a song that on the first listen is a head nodder, and by the third is a red light of what’s to come. The Other Guys nailed what I was going for sonically, leaving room for me to bring it home, full swing. “So picture me comparing the look on a junkie’s face/ to the look on my mama’s face when her money’s late/ and we’re mirror to mirror, there’s no cutaways/ so excuse me for choosing to peak the other way…” -Skyzoo

City For Sale is a breakup album. A relationship album. Instead of a woman its about my hometown...YOUR hometown...your old way of living. Growing apart from a place, from people, from who you once were. Because i'm from a currently gentrifying city that theme is on the surface of the album but the overall narrative is for any person that feels unfamiliar in a space that was currently familiar to them. This album is me finding my new comfort zone because I have to.
This City For Sale album is the first time I've produced an entire album on my own including making every beat. Even Donwill's "One Word No Spaces" LP (which I'm credited as the producer) was co produced and co arranged by Donwill. Thats something we always wanted to do. City For Sale is another personal goal for me. I've been afraid to do an entire album alone until now....if this shit is wack its all my fault. With that said this is my calling card album. This is the one I will hopefully be known for when its all said and done.

Von Pea’s signature ‘bat crack’ sound provides an ample bed of hard drums and emotive loops for Don to bare his soul over and reintroduce himself to those who may not be in the know. Clocking in at 35 min the album is a jarring jaunt with high replay value and features that include Quelle Chris, Paul Barman, Theory Hazit, Von Pea, ilyas, Rob Cave and several other Lessondary spitters. ……..It’s been 10 years since Tanya Morgan gave their fans a proverbial ‘key to the city’ by way of their album “Brooklynati”, and in commemoration of this milestone HiPNOTT Records is pressing the album to vinyl for the first time ever. May 12, 2019 marks the 10th anniversary of the album’s release which features Phonte, Blu, and their fellow Lessondary crew members. The album has now been remastered and issued on double transparent red vinyl. The release is limited to 300 pieces.

HiPNOTT Record Artist, Intelligenz goes on tour with the greatest story teller himself, Slick Rick for his first “Home Coming Tour” in the United Kingdom and drops her new single “Welcome To The Grind”. The iconic and London born legend, fresh off his naturalized U.S. citizenship victory, captivated audiences with his highly anticipated tour. Touching five cities in the U.K. including Manchester, London, Bristol, Birmingham, Dublin Ireland and ending in Brighton he left listeners in tears, overwhelmed and fulfilled.
Intelligenz is the first emcee that just so happened to be female, going on tour with “The Ruler”. A Chicago native, now residing in the DMV area, she has been humbly hitting stages and getting cosigned by the veterans of Hip-hop for some time now. Legendary Hip Hop producer J. Rawls unveils his latest project, this time with fellow Ohio emcee Dominique Larue, entitled Almost There. Rawls, who has worked with renowned artists such as The Beastie Boys, Masta Ace, Mos Def, and Talib Kweli, has been working and recording with Larue since 2011. Larue, herself, made a splash on the scene last year as member of the all female group Heresy with fellow emcees Carolina Dirty, MyVerse, and Monie Love.
Together, J. Rawls and Dominique Larue have enlisted HiPNOTT Records to help deliver their hard work in the form of the album Almost There, a diverse musical collage of dope beats from Rawls and dope rhymes from Larue where she captures the ups and downs of life, pain, and love.

NYC freestyle stalwart and eMC rhymesayer Wordsworth connects with Baltimore producer JSOUL on the upcoming HiPNOTT Records release, Blame It On The Music.
When asked about the project, Wordsworth said, "Once I heard JSOUL's beats, the diversity caught my attention. Immediately my mind start racing with ideas and we started vibing to make something solid. We decided on the title 'Blame It On The Music' because it seems like the music is another excuse for society. Instead of a healthy dialogue just blame the culture of the youth." Wordsworth continued by mentioning, "HiPNOTT Records represents quality and integrity of music. It’s a home for artists and producers creativity but a movement of motivation."
Their stark cohesiveness is put on full display on the new single, "Satellite." JSOUL provides a wicked baseline and alluring vocal sample as the perfect backdrop for Wordsworth's vivid poetics that serves as a reminder that the struggle is real is this Cold Cold World.

The eMC rhymesayer uses his bully pulpit to spit, “Police are steady hunting men/ your back they put a dozen in/ behind you running plates and they putting numbers in/ Suffering, Democrats, Republicans they governing/ Politicians not to help but for wealth they run again.” Highlighting societies insecurities and informing that the music won’t be a scapegoat. The only ones to blame for your speakers throbbing, head nodding, is this incredible music from JSOUL and Wordsworth.

As a kid born in 1980 and being privileged to witness Hip Hop's rise from its start into the Golden Era & beyond, JSOUL wanted to pay homage by taking it back to a time where lyrics mattered and the beats were crafted to paint pictures with cinematic accuracy. In Hip Hop, the beats made you fall in love with the artist just as much as the artist made you fall in love with the beats.

Them That Do..... and you're damn right. "Do" was the right verbiage chosen to represent this group made up of 3 emcees (Phat Hentoff, Jasper Brown, and Chuck Daily) and a beatmaker/producer (Small Professor). Yes, we live in a digital age where collaborations need not occur on a face-to‐face basis, but when they do, it's quite special. It takes effort for grown men, each with their own individual aims, aspirations, families, and livings to make, to assemble collectively, build with each other, and create music. Songs don't build themselves and writers don't all relate to each other, which is what makes the cohesiveness of this unit stand out. Jazz samples and dusty breaks forge the sonic scenery across the length of their upcoming debut album, albeit with a sense of modernity, simply "being", as opposed to "trying to be".
