As humans, we believe we will live forever. So it should come at no surprise when we begin feeling the effects of how we live. The body is a miracle in real time. Think about it. It houses our vital organs, it moves, it stretches, it produces other life and more. There’s so many things that we don’t know about it. There’s so much we can learn about how the body recovers from injuries, illnesses, and how it works to sustain our lifestyles. We all should know more about our bodies and how it works. Remember the human body is our temple. We should treat it with respect and listen to it when it tells us there’s something wrong. I know from experience that if you don’t listen to your body and take the appropriate action, it will let you know the impact of your decision. This episode is about listening to your body, determining what it needs to sustain a healthy lifestyle, the growing importance of self care and the tools and resources available to you.
For more than 100 years, the right to vote has been one of the most coveted acts in the United States. Today, every citizen has the right vote under the U.S. Constitution. The right to vote has been the one thing that differentiates the US from other countries. So why don’t we all do it? For African-Americans, this right was denied for many many years. People died for the right to vote. So why don’t we all do it? This episode discusses the African-Americans journey for the right to vote then and now. While there have been major strides, there is still much more work to be done. Do you vote? Join Karla as she explores why this is a fight that continues today and what we all can do to win.

We often talk about the qualities that leaders should have and how they should use their platform for good. There has been a lot of changes made by leaders to improve, to be better than their predecessors. Their is at least one quality that is a must for anyone wants to lead—courage. This episode discusses why having courage is so important and how that differentiates some leaders from others. Do you have what it takes to lead? Karla discusses what questions to ask yourself to help you think through this question. Anyone can have the title of leader, but not everyone who has the title or who may be in a leadership position can lead. This goes beyond the workplace and impacts us in our everyday lives. Are you the leader we need? Do you have what it takes?
Living has its own challenges when you’re well. When you’re living with an illness it has added complications and challenges that you probably didn’t consider before you became ill. You have to remember that you are not the illness or the illness is not you. There are always things that you can control, things you can do. This show discusses those things. In our last show, we discussed diabetes and peripheral neuropathy. Today we’re going to go a little deeper and talk about how to thrive living with those illnesses. What should you do when you become diagnosed with either illness. Where you can find resources. And what are some things you can do to live your best life.
I began this show asking you what was your life’s purpose. I shared stories with you of how others found purpose in their lives and what they are doing now. Case in point Mrs. Elmer Lucille Allen of Louisville, KY. This senior powerhouse is a chemist, an artist, social activist, mother, traveler, and more. She had a clear idea of what her purpose was and she pursued it whole heartedly and continues living a purpose driven life. Now we want to know what you found out and how you went about it. Karla shares her journey in answering this question and asks what’s next; where do we go from here?
While the holidays bring such joy and happiness, it can also be the most stressful time of the year. Yes, you’ve been looking forward to spending time with family and friends, but as the time gets closer you can feel the stress building up in your body. Think about what happened last year —the argument with cousin Billy, or the roast was to dry, or your niece broke your favorite ornament. Now everybody’s coming over to your house and you’re wondering where can you go and hide. Relax, you’ve got this!!! This episode provides you with ways you can get through the holidays and have more fun.
Everyday I see messages telling me how I should live, what car I should drive, how I should dress, look, talk etc. At work, my job tells me how to be a good employee. My friends and family tell me to fix those things they believe will make me happy. Many of these messages may be well meaning. But the truth of the matter is, it’s someone else’s view. Everyone has their own truth; their own belief as to how one should live life. Sometimes we allow others to tell us what that life should be or when we should be or who we should be. What do you want? How do you want to live your life? Today is your time to stand up for the life you want. You’ve been working on goals you made earlier and perhaps you’ve not made the progress you wanted. This is not the time to quit. It is the time to keep moving; to stand up for you.
The impact of social media is well documented and it’s impact is both positive and negative. Within social media are individuals known as “influencers”. They have hundreds of followers who make decisions based upon their recommendations. These “influencers” can make or break a product or business. They can drive customers to something or away from something with a single tweet. That’s a lot of power. There are people in our personal lives that are “influencers”. We often use them the same way. What qualities do these people have that we listen to what they say? How has the relationship with them help you be successful or to be your best? This episode looks at influencers and their impact in our lives today.
Have you ever found yourself doing something that you didn’t want to do or committed to something that you found draining? Sometimes we find ourselves doing more for others than we do for ourselves. Helping others feels good and can contribute to their quality of life or enhance a relationship or even help your career. Saying “no” is hard for some because they feel guilty, but doing so can be a wonderful gift to yourself. What would happen if you said “no” to those people those things that don’t value you or move you closer to your life’s goal? What would happen if you did the things you wanted to do but never had time to do? Now is the time to say yes to yourself. Start removing those things or people in your life that drain you and begin filling your life with people and things that lift you up and move you forward. This episode can start the process, but you will still need to do the work. Are you ready?
You’ve had a successful career, great friends, great family, life is good. But you have a yearning for something else. You sometimes feel as though you’re stuck, like a hamster on a wheel running fast. The wheel moves as you run but you’re stuck in the same place. You feel as though your life is a bit routine. Now that’s not to say that you aren’t successful or that you don’t enjoy what you have worked so hard to acquire in your life, your career. However, there’s always been that feeling that there is something else for you. That thing you’ve always wanted to do or you’ve always wanted to at least try, but you were afraid to take the risk. In Part 2 of this episode, Karla discusses how to get unstuck, take the risk, and make the shift to the career & life you want. This is the time of year that’s filled with thoughts of days gone by. We think about the things that we used to do in our youth over the holidays. Those we’re happy times for most of us. Those were times when we were together with our families and friends sharing food, laughter, and good cheer! It’s good to look back and reflect on how things used to be. But let’s not get stuck in the past because we can’t go back we can only move forward. So what do I propose we do this time of year when we are giving thanks, giving to others; where we are being more empathetic to the human condition? Let’s start with ourselves. Let’s have the courage to change at least one thing that would make our lives better. Let’s commit to do something this holiday season we have not done before. Let’s check our assumptions at the door. Let’s put our technology on pause and reach out and talk with someone who makes you feel good. This we should do for ourselves; we are worth it. And this is only the beginning
You’ve worked so hard every week. You rarely take breaks, you eat lunch at your desk, and you are often not only the first one in but the last one to leave. You even bring work home most days. And while you love your what you do, there is a price. Perhaps you have missed a few family events or maybe it was a friend’s birthday or a special day for someone special. But that’s okay, you’ll make it up to them. There’s always next year. Does any of this sound like you? I know it did sound like me until I made a decision to change the pattern. Being a workaholic can produce great results at work, but doesn’t leave much time for anything else. There is more to life than work and today, we’ll talk about how to get your life back.
Picture this… A group of businessmen sitting around the table in the board room of a large company discussing why they don’t have more women at the executive level. “Why don’t we have any women who are ready to move into our top roles?, one asks. In this company there are approximately 80 leadership or executive roles within the company. Only three women hold leadership roles in the company and they were hired from the outside. As they look at the succession plan for the next five years, they noticed that there are absolutely no women identified in the pipeline. “How could that be?, asked one executive. “Our company is 60% women. Why don’t we have more women trying to move into our leadership roles? I know we have leadership training available.” “What’s wrong with the women and how do we fix them?” So they hire a consultant to help them fix the problem with women. Join Karla, as she discusses what the problem with the women is and some real solutions.
We live in a world that’s constantly changing. We watched our parents go to work, come home, take care of the family, go to bed and repeat the same routine at least five days out of the week. We also heard our parents complain about their job that they went to every day. Some parents worked two jobs just to make ends meet. They worked so hard to make sure that the families had whatever they needed. And we grew up doing the same thing as our parents. Many parents worked at the same job for 25 years or more. We rarely see that type of loyalty to an employer anymore. Today we are less likely to stay in a job that make we don’t like. There are so many other options. We don’t feel the need to stay with one employer, if there is little to no job satisfaction or it doesn’t fit with our lifestyles. So we find ourselves changing jobs, careers, locations, etc. in pursuit of a better life. Join Karla as she discusses changing jobs, careers, and changing our lives for the better.
We all get a little stressed now and then. The triggers will vary—you’re running late, you’ve got an important meeting with your boss, you’re caught in a severe storm, you’ve put off doing something and it’s due tomorrow, you’ve had an argument, etc. How we react to the stressor or stressors will determine its impact on our body, mind, and spirit. A little stress is good for us. It keeps us alert, lets us know we are alive. It can also motivate us to get going, to get started, or ignite a new idea. The problem comes when we have neglected the stress, and it builds up, impacting our bodies, our minds, and yes, our spirits. Karla discusses this “boogeyman” and how we can manage him to keep ourselves healthy and happy.
Everyday when I look in the mirror, I look for that 25 year old version of myself. There are days I see her — tall, athletic, slim, lots of hair, smiling back at me. And then there are days that I look and wonder where did she go and who’s body is that I’m looking at. This body is a little older, a little flabbier, a little less hair, but almost the same hairdo (not sure what that’s about?), and so on. In my head, I’m still that 25 year old. But my body tells me I’m not 25 anymore. And that’s okay. Everyone changes over time and the important thing is how you have lives your life. So, what’s feeding the insecurities, the negativity feelings about how we look, our age, how we move now versus when we were young? What does this have to do with body image? What can you do to have a better body image? Join Karla as she shares her insights about having a healthy body image. Technology has made it much easier for us to be able to communicate with one another at any given moment. How we communicate with each other is as important as what we communicate with each other. Today we are flooded with instant images that tell a story, show emotions, and more. At any given moment, is it possible to receive communications from hundreds and sometimes thousands of people whether we ask for it or not. Good, bad, or ugly, it is all some form of feedback. We have received feedback every day of our life. Somethings we were happy to hear on over tell how well you doing how do you help someone else does not make us feel good inside make us want to do my make it wanted to better. And of course there are things that we never wanted to hear about ourselves, such as how a behavior has negatively impacted someone else. So much information, but what do we do with it? How do utilize this feedback to make our lives better? Join Karla as she discusses the importance of feedback.
Many people want to be leaders. Some are holding positions in organizations and are considered leaders because of the positions they hold. Others run kicking and screaming from anything that looks or feels like they have leadership responsibilities. And there are those who are natural born leaders. They do it with such ease that they make it look effortless; like anyone could be a leader; like anyone can lead. Good leaders are hard to find, but they don’t have to be. What good is it to call yourself a leader if no one follows? What are those competencies, those abilities that make an effective leader and which are key for leaders to develop today for tomorrow? Join Karla as she discusses competencies and characteristics needed for leaders at any level today.
We work all our lives to be successful. We put in countless hours on the job to be the best, to get that promotion, to provide for our families, and to make our loved ones proud. Success is important to us. But why? How do we know when we are “successful?” What if we fail? One or two failures may be acceptable and no one would hold that against us. I mean, we’re not perfect, right? Defining what success means to you will help you know what it is when you see it. Once you have achieved success then what happens? What do you do then? Is this all there is? We have to remember that success is a destination and a journey. In this show, Karla discusses the journey to success.
It is frustrating when others do not see us in the same light as we see ourselves or they heard or read our communication and walked away with a meaning that was not intended. This is one reason I prefer talking with people rather than texting. I remember a manager I once had talking with me about some feedback he had received and he wanted to know what I thought about it. I proceeded to explain to him that I disagreed with what was said and why. He then told me that perception is reality and therefore, it was correct. I suppose I could have just accepted it and went on my way, but I did not. While I did not want to argue, I did want the opportunity to have a discussion with the individual and gain clarity. And to have an chance to correct the perception. Is perception important? Can we change someones perception? Join Karla as she discusses Perception is it reality? Can we change it?
We all experience loss or grief; it is part of the being human. Whether it is a personal loss or we are sad about something that has happened to someone else; how we handle or how we work through each situation matters. On one hand, we can decide to dwell on it, or sit in it for days and be miserable, or face it head on, accepting it and perhaps even learning from it. We can take the necessary steps to move forward, what ever that may be, so we can get on with our lives. But, what if we can not? We can be happy. Can we be happy? What does that mean anyway? Is there only one way to be happy? Does being happy mean that we are never sad or feel pain or heartache? What does it take for you, for me to be happy in our lives? What time if we have to work 2 3 jobs just to make ends meet. Can we be happy? What if we have outlived our family members and close friends? Can we still be happy? Join Karla for a discussion on grief and happiness.
It is a fact that we are living longer and that we are healthier doing it. It is hard to believe that the life expectancy of humans was at one time less than 60 years. But to quote Bob Dylan, “...the times they are a changin’...” When I hear people getting upset because they are turning 21, 30, 40 years old, I do not get it. There was a time when people thought of growing old as a death sentence, an end of life, a moving out to pasture never to be heard from again. Well that time has passed. We are living longer, better, healthier and we are not doing it quietly. We are discovering a new found freedom and discovering new possibilities and exploring things we never imagined possible. Aging is inevitable. How we age is what we do have control of. What we can determine is how we live our lives and we we do with our gifts, talents, and the experiences we’ve had. How are you living Join Karla as she discusses aging fit, aging gracefully, aging vibrantly

What can you expect and what skills will you need? Many of the jobs you knew are gone and may no longer exist. And the work place has changed as well as what employers are looking for and expecting from their employees. Join Karla as she looks at what the future of work will look like, what skills have been identified as a must, what people over 50 need to know, and how to work in an age blended workforce.
Have you ever picked up a ball and tried to bounce it only to find that it had no bounce? It was deflated. The air had slowly seeped out without you realizing it. We are sometimes like that ball. There is so much happening in our personal lives and not all of it may be positive. We may have struggles, challenges, unexpected changes that may make us feel deflated. Add on to that those things that are going on in the world and we can feel like we have been hit by a bulldozer. What do you do when that happens? How do you bounce back? What puts air back in your ball so you can bounce back and get back in the game? Join Karla as she discusses the power of resilience. Can you develop resiliency? How can you be resilient at work and in your personal life? How can you help others to be resilient.
Racism, sexism, agism, colorism, so many isms. Why are these “isms” still causing problems in our society, our communities, in our businesses?
We live In a wonderful global community which leads us to connect with people and experiences different from our own. Our ideas, relationships, children, businesses are richer when we can tap into the uniqueness. Innovation is unleashed when we are able to listen to and try new perspectives. When we do, we may also find that we are more alike than we are different.
So why can’t we all just get along? What’s lurking in the shadows ready to rear it’s ugly head? We have the power to affect positive change by embracing our differences.
Join me and my guest Marilyn O’Hearne, as we have some real talk about culture and it’s impact on business and our ability to live our best lives. We’ll get a few tips and strategies that you can use today to and discuss her book Breaking Free From Bias.
Together we are stronger, From The Inside Out.
There is so much happening in our world today that sometimes it’s overwhelming. In fact, there are times when we yell out loud, “Make it stop! I can’t take anymore changes in my life. It’s just too much.” And we mean it at the time we say it. However, you can’t stop change. It’s inevitable. To live as a human is to evolve, to change. If we do not, we become extinct, a relict. We must continue to grow, to change to meet the challenges and needs in our lives. The same is true of business.
A look back shows us how those businesses that failed to change to meet the challenges and needs of its customers, communities, and industries failed or became extinct, a relict. So what changes do the future hold for businesses and how might that impact your life? Tune in with Karla as she discusses some of the changes and challenges facing businesses and our lives and possible solutions to help us be prepared.

Some of the leaders of our country continue to incite negative cultural biases that many thought was going away. It seems we have gone backwards in history to a time where it felt unsafe to be a person of color.
“Mommy are you white?” This is a question I got from my daughter when she was little because her classmates were teasing her about having a “white” mommy. Where did they learn this? Why should it matter if your mommy is black or white? Why is this still an issue today?
This show explores and discusses the issue of race and “color”. Why is it important? Why does this issue bring out the ugliest side of our nature? What is driving, fueling the hate? Why are people bleaching their skin to become lighter? Why does there seem to be so much disdain for dark skinned women? What is white privilege? How can we move beyond this to a place of mutual understanding, respect, and appreciation?

This is the year of taking care of YOU. We spend so much time taking care of everybody else that we often neglect our own needs. Taking care of yourself is equally important if not more than taking care of others. In fact, if you take better care of yourself you will be better equipped to take care of others. Today there are more choices available than just traditional medicine. We have learned so much more about the mind-body connection, ancient treatments that have proven to work today, and Eastern medicines and health practices that have given us a different perspective on how we treat illnesses.
There are several types of self-care that we will begin to explore and discuss in this series on health. My guest this week is Dr. Yehudit Iglesia Ph.D., who dedicated to the teaching, practice, and research of Chinese medicine.

This is a question I personally have asked myself since I became a parent. Today I still ask that question. It is stuck in my brain. It haunts my decision making. Is there a middle? How do I know I did it right?

We use words every day to express ourselves either through voice or in writing. The can inspire, invoke a variety of emotions, actions, and ideas. That have meaning, energy, truth, lies, consequences, and more. We have to be careful how we use words, because the impact can be both positive and negative. You may disagree that you should be careful with words, but you must know that the words you use effect others. What’s your responsibility? My friends believe that what you put out to the universe will/can manifest itself so be mindful what you say. We’ll take a look at words—their meaning and power and impact on people, our communities, and society.

In 1990 the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was established to ensure that people with disabilities would not be discriminated and so they would have assess to the same opportunities as all Americans. Looking back at how we treated people with disabilities, you can clearly understand why the law needed to be enacted. Denying people who are different or who may have disabilities opportunities and access is an ugly part of our history in the US. How we refer to them, what we say about them when we think they can’t hear us, how we have treated them, and how we have ignored their needs has not always been our finest hour. Enacting the ADA was supposed to make it better. But did it?

You have lived with this “gift” all your life; never thinking anything about it. Nobody ever said it was special. Most of the time no one recognized it as something others may not be able to do as well as you.

You made the decision to live healthy and fit this year. You starred out with enthusiasm and a determination to do things differently than you’ve done in the past. But you’re feeling stuck in a rut. You’ve missed a few days sticking to your plan. You’re not working out like you said you would. You’re getting frustrated not seeing the results you expected. And you’re embarrassed. You told everyone this year it was going to be different, so you lie about what you are doing and your progress. Sound familiar?
You’re past doesn’t have to be your current or your future.
Futness expert and personal trainer Natasha Marie is back to discuss how to get unstuck and back on track to reach your health and fitness goals.
The benefits of making the decision to live healthy and live fit outweigh any arguments we have with ourselves for not taking actions that increase our life expectancy and our ability to keep moving freely.

We all have memories of our favorite food that mom or grandma or aunt for cooked for us. These are the foods we go to when we need a hug or want to feel warm inside. Good old home cooking!
Some of us even try to remake those childhood foods that gave us such joy when they hit our tummies and the moment we put them into our mouths we knew we were loved. I could never figure out what ingredient my aunt put into her cabbage that made it so good. Or how she made one of my favorite desserts that we called “egg pie”. (I still don’t know how to make it.) But the memories surrounding these foods were always coupled with family and friends.

We have been programmed to believe taking time to care for ourselves is a bad thing. People guilt us into believing that we are bad parents if our children are not with us 24/7. Even our employers, as much as they say work life balance is important, can make us feel as if we are disloyal for taking vacation or sick days.

She is a singer and oh, can she sing! Join Karla, Tuesday, April 16, at 9:00am Eastern/6:00am Pacific on the Empowerment Channel and meet Donna McElroy.
Donna has received an on the job education in what it takes to be a professional musician. Fisk University graduate has great stories to share, from singing background vocals for a wide range of artists, to being nominated for a Dove award, to teaching at one of the best music schools in the world.
According to Donna, “Usually a person comes to Berklee as a voice student because they want a record deal…so that's perfect for me because I can speak from experience on that topic. They may want to be a professional singer and go out on the road, or do jingles and session work, and I've done all that.
I realized that I have a special gift I bring to teaching, which is experience. Most people get out of school and begin to teach. They haven't done 23 years of hacking away at it.
“The more things change, the more they remain the same.” French writer Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr
In a world where we can connect with each other in an instant, we are finding that we humans are more allies than what we think.. As technology continues to Open doors for us to worlds that we never thought we could see or collect it, you begin to realize that we basically want the same thing – – to be able to live our lives to the fullest, to take care of our families, to do work that we love, to contribute to our community, and more. So, what is it that makes us unique from others around us? What is that thing that makes us stand out in a crowd? And in a growing competitive world, what makes employer hire one person over another or promote one over another?
Join Karla as she discusses the ways one can differentiate herself and have the career and life you want.

We spent most of our lives taking care of other people – – our family, particularly our children, our friends, and those in need. We do this without expecting anything from anyone except maybe a thank you. Even if we don’t get that, we are happy when we see positive results resorting from our efforts.
While this is commendable, we must also be sure that we are taking care of and considering our needs. That means putting ourselves first. By doing so, we will be better equipped to handle the challenges and issues that come to us in both our personal and professional lives. Using the power of intention can get you back on track and keep you there. Join Karla in a discussion of how to use the power of intention and live your life to it’s fullest.

We may spend forty hours or more each week with the people we work. We learn to depend and expect that every is doing his or her job. We believe that we can trust our co-workers or boss sometimes more than we do our own family members. Why? Because we are all working toward the same goal at work. We have teams of people that we share information with, that we laugh with, disagree with, compete against, and celebrate successes. There is a bond, a comfort in how we work together, and all the experiences we shared over time.
What happy happens when things you held to be true are not? How do you handle a co-worker’s lie particularly when it impacts you? Have you ever been betrayed by someone you trusted, who you thought had your back? Wat did you do? What did you say? Can they be trusted?
Call in live, toll free-1-888-346-9141; or Int’l 001-480-553-5760 to join the discussion with Karla and her guest, Kanisha L. Adkins, as we jump in the deep end.
Keeping secrets can keep you from moving forward, can keeping you from healing, or can keep you from having the life you were meant to live. It may begin as an innocent omission of information or fact, as time goes on it can be much more. Perhaps you forgot to mention it the first time you had the conversation, but now you are intentionally not talking about it. Maybe you’ve decided you don’t want to get involved. Or maybe you’ve been sworn to secrecy.
When does a lie become a secret or a secret become a lie? Is it a lie if you believe it to be true? In one day, it was reported that the US president told 83 “untruths”. Is that a goal we should shoot for?
When asked to keep a secret for a friend, we normally have no qualms about it. It’s your friend. However, when is keeping a secret not in the best interest of your friend? How do you handle the conversation?
Call in live, toll free-1-888-346-9141; or Int’l 001-480-553-5760 to join Karla as we discuss these issues.
2019 started out with a bang and we were ready to hit the ground running. Once again we said hello to the new year and au revoir to the old. We began to set goals and identified challenges for ourselves and promised, this year will be different. And we made it, this was going to be the year where we actually did what we promised what we had planned. So how are you doing? Are things going as planned? Are there things that seem to be a little more awkward or difficult than you thought? Or are you right on track?
In this show, we take a look at how we explored our lives purpose what we identified we wanted to accomplish the goals we set up and the strategies we may. What’s working, what needs work, where are we stalled and how we can reboot.
Two people standing side by side. There is nothing particularly special or odd about them. They both appear friendly and you don’t feel any danger. Can you tell which one is gay?
No? Then why when you find out one or both of them are gay, does your behavior toward them change? What is it about someone being “gay” that seems to threaten us or make us feel uncomfortable? Why don’t we see them for who they are as a human being and not for who they love or how they identify?
What about our children? What messages are we sending them? We tell them to be themselves, but do we mean just don’t be gay.
Join me and my guest, Jason Gerome Williams, as he shares his life experiences from childhood to adulthood, to coming out to family and friends, and how his professional life has been impacted.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) what prevents women and girls to benefit from quality health services are social norms that decrease education and paid employment opportunities, potential or actual experience of physical, sexual and emotional violence, an exclusive focus on women’s reproductive roles, and unequal power relationships between men and women.
In the US, Black women are often unheard or not taken seriously when it comes to health concerns. The Center for American Progress reports, “African American women are three to four times more likely to die from childbirth than non-Hispanic white women, and socioeconomic status, education, and other factors do not protect against this disparity.” Leading cause of death in African Americans-Heart Disease, Cancer, Stroke, Diabetes, and Unintentional Injuries. We must make changes now.
Maya Francis (Sisters From AARP) joins Karla in this discussion and shares what we can do to change this pattern. From The Inside Out
There has been a lot of talk about the need to address mental illness and promote the mental health of all people. But what does it mean to be mentally healthy? Understanding and knowing how to handle grief, depression, and suicide has become a critical part of our overall mental health and wellness. There is a need to be clear about what these issues means, what we can do to help, and what resources are available to support those who need it.
How do we eliminate the stigma associated with mental health issues? How do we change the perspective in our communities about seeking help? What should we do or not do when coping with mental issues? How can we help our children cope in the age of social media?
On Tuesday at 6:00am PST/9:00am EST join Karla and her guest, Addie W. Anderson as we discuss these serious mental health issues and what we all can and should do that could help change how we as a society, can make a difference today and in th future.

As technology improved our lives, we’ve become more and more seditary in our lifestyles. Obesity is at an all time high and our children are feeling the impact of no physical education in schools.
The only things getting any exercise are our thumbs. There is little nutritional value in those snacks we’ve been eating and the soda we’ve been drinking. Now, we are too tired to exercise and we’ve got to get to bed so we can go to work and do the same thing all over again.
Karla and fitness expert and personal trainer Natasha Marie discuss how being healthy is easy, but we’ve got to do the work so we can live healthy and live fit. Learn how to get started and what you can do to maintain the momentum to reach your fitness goals.
The benefits of making the decision to live healthy and live fit outweigh any arguments we have with ourselves for not taking actions that increase our life expectancy and our ability to keep moving freely.
From The Inside Out, break the cycle.
Why is there a Black History Month? What’s the purpose and do we still need it today?
It’s beginning was related to civil rights and racism in the USA. Then there was missing information about the role of black people in history; what they contributed to the building of this nation; how they lived, loved, were treated, how they were thought of, and how they survived. Why such a fear of black men?
How did not being included in history books or their history not being taught or discussed in schools impact their development and the expectations of others?
When it comes to our health, why are we the least likely to get good treatment? We are all the same on the inside, right? So why aren’t women, especially black women’s health issues being heard?
The future of black people in America today often seems not very different from the past. However, there is still a lot to do for all people of color

It is time to put your plans into action. Oh, you didn’t make a plan, you were just going to play it by ear. I mean you’ve know what you want, you’re just waiting for the right time or to see what happens with... or your waiting for a sign. How well has this approach worked for you in the past? What did you learn? What did you promise yourself, next time?
Benjamin Franklin is credited with saying, “if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” I don’t believe you are trying to fail or not achieve your goals, but I do know that the process can be overwhelming and often frustrating. It can be even more overwhelming if you are doing it for your job.
Join Karla as she discusses ways to take away some of the anxiety and frustration of planning and setting goals and move you to action that achieves them.

This show explores and discusses the issue of “color” as it relates to a person’s skin pigment. Where did this all begin and does it still play a part in decisions? Why is it important? Why are people bleaching their skin to become lighter? Why does there seem to be so much disdain for dark skinned women? What is white privilege?
Karla will also discuss the societal impacts of skin color, its impact on the individual, the family, businesses, education and human behavior.
How can we move beyond it? Join the discussion on “From The Inside Outside”
Martin Luther King had a dream. He believed in and fought for a world where all people were seen as equals and were given the same opportunities for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, regardless of the color of their skin, their ethnicity, their sex, their religion, or national origin. He believed in a free people and a world that allowed them to excel. So, where are we today in this quest for freedom and our ability to excel?
Do you have a dream of a life well lived? How are you making your dream a reality?
We’ll discuss how far we have progressed, the legacy of one very successful business woman and her legacy; and a look at how others are fulfilling and living the dream.
This is the year of taking care of YOU. We spent so much time taking care of everybody else we often neglect our own needs. Self-care is equally important as taking care of others in the universe. In fact, if you take better care of yourself you will be able to better take care of others.
There are several types of self-care that we will begin to explore and discuss in this series on health. My guest this week is Dr. Yehudit Iglesia Ph.D., who dedicated to the teaching, practice, and research of Chinese medicine.
Join us as we discuss the need for self care and traditional and non-traditional healthcare practices to help you live your best life.

We’ll learn about autism spectrum disorder and it’s impact on the children, parents, family members, and friends ability to live their best lives. Derek will share a few tips, and strategies his family have used, and a few resources that can help listeners navigate their own journey.
According to the National Autism Association, Autism now affects 1 in 59 children. It’s prevalence is not affected by race, religion, or socio-economic status. It is a bio-numerological development disability that generally appears before the age of 3. Children with Autism do progress, but early detection is the key.
