She is the author of "Live An Empowered Life" and the host of the podcast, "Empowering Chats With Susan Burrell - Journey to Freedom, Brilliance and Opulence."
I loved this vulnerable conversation with Susan which centers around the shared subject matter of healing from covert narcissistic abuse. And as we went through the different stages of healing to process the effects of what happened , it made us go deep within to find ourselves again. Susan and I discuss how our spiritual tools and wisdom teachings played such a key part in freeing ourselves from trauma and emotional pain. We talked about how being exposed to narcissistic abuse served as a sacred invitation to reclaim our worth, re-discover the divinity within, learn to nourish and care for ourselves with genuine self love and ultimately find ways to prioritize living a healthy, joy filled life.

Ep#117 Today’s episode shines the light on a whole new way to understand compulsive overeating and that’s through the lens of food addiction. Research suggests something more complex might be going on with some foods that we eat that affect the brain’s reward system similarly to the way addictive drugs do. Susan is President of the Institute for Sustainable Weight Loss and CEO of Bright Line Eating Solutions (BLE), a company dedicated to helping people achieve long-term, sustainable weight loss by showing you how to rewire your brain and break the yo-yo diet cycle. BLE is geared towards those who are susceptible to addictive foods and have struggled to find peace and sanity around food.
Grounded in psychology and neuroscience Susan’s program uses cutting edge research to explain how modern processed foods impact the addiction centers of the brain. The complete opposite of the deprivation diet mindset, Bright Line Eating seeks to empower people for life, by creating a supportive community to heal the deeper emotional components that underlie addictive behaviors by integrating the tools of Positive Psychology and Internal Family Systems.
But Bright Line Eating is more than just a way of eating—it’s a movement. EP#105 As babies, we come into this world, fully embodying authenticity, we are born loving absolutely everything about ourselves, we play, sing, twirl around; fully expressing ourselves never worrying about what the other babies are doing or thinking about us,; we come in expecting nothing but love, care, security and comfort. Our original natural state is pure love, joy, pure authenticity. Overtime, we adapt by suppressing our true nature, we learn to fine tuning our behaviors based on our environment to secure our basic needs to feel safety, love and belonging. Depending on our life circumstances, some of us had to give up less of our authenticity to receive love and care while others traded way more than they could afford, disconnecting totally from their authentic selves as a way to cope with family trauma, dysfunction or abuse.
Finding our way back home to our core nature is a courageous journey and today’s special guest is an extraordinary example of its healing power. I speak with Terri Kozlwoski, practical Soul and Life Coach, PodcastHost and author of the critically acclaimed memoir, "Raven Transcending Fear, A Memoir About Overcoming Sexual Abuse, Abandonment and Discovering Your Authentic Self."

Ep#104 All too often in the wellness world, especially in the diet and fitness circles, our mental and emotional well being doesn’t get the attention it deserves. It’s a huge blindspot because how we feel and what we think is so fundamental. Mental health disorders are linked to the prevalence, progression, and outcome of some of today’s most pressing chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. They increase the risk for substance abuse and addiction. Our mental health affects how we handle and respond to stress, make choices, relate to ourselves and others. Bottomline, mental health IS health. When our mind is suffering, our whole being suffers.
Today’s episode is a poignant example of how our bodies have the power to heal our minds and how our minds have the power to heal our bodies. I talk with Nita Sweeney, anaward-winning wellness author of the running and mental health memoir,Depression Hates a Moving Target: How Running with My Dog Brought Me Back from the Brink , and herupcoming book,Make Every Move a Meditation, which was recently featured in the Wall Street Journal. Nita’s personal journey of overcoming a lifetime of chronic depression and anxiety through a unique combination of running, writing and meditation is a powerful example of how it really is never too late to reclaim our health and happiness. Her story, a brave and honest account of beating the odds and cultivating inner resilience is incredible inspiration for anyone struggling with mental health or even just stuck in a rut and needing to make some healthy lifestyle changes.

Ep#102 There is an abundance of research that shows that adopting healthy behaviors alone won’t get us where we want to go, we need to find ways to cultivate healthy thoughts too. It’s quite profound to think that by simply challenging our own perceptions we can see improvements in our health. On this special solo episode, I share why health messaging needs to move beyond nutrition and exercise and take the role of mindset just as seriously.

Ep#098 The principle that everyone is doing the best they can based on their current level of awareness gives way to a space where we can kindly and consciously do the work we need on our inner selves that’s essential to generating the positive life enhancing changes we all desire. Without this genuine commitment to working from the inside out, we remain in this mental tug of war with what we say we want and what we actually do. No matter our goals, better health, a rewarding career, or fulfilling relationships, it’s key that we acknowledge how the limitations of our inner resources (i..e our mindset, history, sense of self) can make having what we want super challenging.
Today’s guest is all about expanding our consciousnesswhen it comes to living their best life. Ronnie Ann Ryan is a Love & Magical Life Coach who has helped 1000s of women find love or live an empowered magical life. Ep#097 The more we understand ourselves the more we step into our full personal power because the decisions we make in our lives become aligned with what really matters to us rather than being dictated by our familial conditioning or society in general. Ep#095 How can a book written in 400 BC be a powerful guide for how to live today? The Tao Te Ching a classic of Chinese philosophical literature, reminds us that spending less time trying to manipulate situations, people and circumstances to get what we want and more time aligning ourselves to the natural flow of things is the way to a joyful existence. The central concept is that deep self awareness when cultivated gives us the ability to have a more genuine experience of reality which gives way to making empowering choices in our lives with ease.
Today’s guest is author, speaker and fellow mom on a spiritual journey Jessie Kanzer. Jessie Asya Kanzer was born in the Soviet Union. At the age of eight, she emigrated with her family to Brooklyn. Her intense personal struggles put her on a spiritual journey during which she discovered the Tao Te Ching, an ancient text that reminds us that there's great power in slowing down in our lives. It forever changed her life.
We dive into her critically acclaimed book, which comes out next month: DON'T JUST SIT THERE, DO NOTHING: Healing, Chilling & Living with the Tao Te Ching. Jessie gives practical actionable insights on how we can use this ancient philosophy to help us thrive amidst our modern chaos.

It feels like the shedding and letting go energy of the last couple years has us poised for some important rebuilding in 2022. On this episode we dive deeper into the realm of consciousness and healing and explore a paradigm that places us firmly in the driver seat of our health and life . That is of course if we are willing to embark on a path of self realization, radical acceptance and ultimately unconditional self love. If you're frustrated with modern medicine’s approach to illness as separate from all other aspects of our lives and the manner it's confined to treating the physical nature of our humanness, this show is for you.
My guest is Dr. Nauman Naeem, a physician specializing in pulmonary and critical care medicine whose quest to understand the true nature of healing and disease has taken him far beyond the confines of conventional medicine and into the realm of mind body medicine, consciousness and metaphysics. Practicing in both the US and Canada for over 2 decades treating tens of thousands of patients, Dr. Naeem observed that the majoritiy of patients with chronic disease do not heal, and that a percentage of which have no desire to heal. This realization compelled him to dive deeper into the psychology of healing.
We discuss his illuminating book, "Healing From The Inside Out: Overcome Chronic Disease And Radically Change Your Life."
Dr. Naeem continues his conventional medical practice in Ontario Canada, along with teaching, coaching, and consulting on all that he has learned.

The critical importance of gathering insights into why we do what we do to achieve true well being is why we are talking again with Enneagram practitioner and holistic therapist, Ann Gadd who we just had on in Episode 79, How Knowing Your Enneagram Personality Type Can Impact Your Relationship With Food
Today we discuss her eye opening book, Sex and the Enneagram: A Guide to Passionate Relationships for the Nine Personality Types. In our conversation, Ann explains how the Enneagram is an empowering tool to reveal and explore our sexuality and connect with our hidden shadow sides so that we can experience a deeper, more authentic expression of ourselves.
Through the lens of sexuality Ann explains how the Enneagram system gives us an understanding of our subconscious motivations, beliefs, and habitual behaviour patterns.
Because, it turns out learning how we get our intimate relationship needs met gives us important clues about how we get our general needs met, and vice versa.

I often say that it's not the challenges in our life that cause our suffering, it's the story we tell ourselves about it. Our greatest power to influence our health and happiness is our ability to direct our mind in an intelligent way. This begins with developing awareness to the personal narrative being generated at the level of the unconscious. That's where real healing and transformation takes place.
In this special solo episode, I share my favorite strategies to help you harnass the power of the mind's story making tendencies so you can develop a mental caliber that you can draw in even the most difficult of circumstances.

Discovering the “why we do what we do” is fundamental if we want to make real positive changes in our lives. When we strive to be genuinely curious about ourselves we have the opportunity to get underneath behaviors that can seem illogical or contradictory. Such a big piece of health is learning to become a keen observer of our beliefs, attitudes because they are what drive our habitual patterns.
Today’s guest is Ann Gadd, an artist, writer, speaker, workshop facilitator and accredited Enneagram practitioner. The Enneagam is an eclectic personality development system that can help us better understand our core beliefs and motivations.
We dive deep into the role that our personality type plays when it comes to our relationship with food. Ann is the author of over 23 books including “The Enneagram of Eating” How the 9 Personality Types Influence Your Food, Diet and Exercise Choices. Ann and I talk about how seeing our mental tendencies using the Enneagram is a powerful doorway to shifting our eating and exercising habits. Ann believes passionately that understanding our personality type is the first step to recognizing how we unconsciously limit ourselves in spite of the potential wholeness that we all are. She teaches that it’s through deep acknowledgement of our fixations and passions, that we can free ourselves from them. Ann explains how the Enneagram is a powerful tool for having an empowering relationship with food, our bodies and our true selves.

At the core of many of our food, weight and body image challenges is the inability to feel at home in our bodies. There's a certain degree of survival mode or fight of flight living that happens which prevents us from feeling a calm and steady energy within ourselves. It's this lack of inner stability that is often the greatest obstacle to our health.
Viewed through the lens of the Chakra System, we can better tend to this this lack of inner stability by exploring the First Chakra, aka our "Root Chakra".Learn how to identify Root Chakra imbalances and some powerful practices to restore this fundamental center of safety, security and belonging.

As I often say, caring for your body yields a certain level of health, caring for your mind and emotions yields really positive results, but when you work at the soul level and step into the spiritual domain, that’s the gold.
Genuine vitality comes from an experience of your true self, detaching from the unconscious beliefs that obstruct the essence of who and what you really are.
What if aging was a portal to discovering our true self?
My special guest is giving people life changing tools to embrace aging as an advanced stage of human development, the next spiritual frontier. I speak with Connie Zweig, PhD, retired Jungian psychotherapist, writer and bestselling author about her latest book, The Inner Work of Age: Shifting from Role to Soul where is she invites us to confront our unconscious beliefs around aging and reimagine later life as an enriching opportunity to experience more presence, to loosen the grip of our busy ego and to trade the image of youth for the depth of age. Dr. Zweig has led seminars nationwide on meditation, spirituality and Shadow Work, helping people let go of past roles, deepen self-knowledge and step into a more expansive and authentic sense of self.

As a holistic health coach, I’ve come to know that when it comes to creating the change we desire for ourselves, cultivating Self Acceptance is the fundamental piece . Without a high level of self acceptance we will lack what it truly takes to take constructive empowered action in our lives.
The problem with Self Improvement is that it makes our self acceptance conditional . We can’t feel like we are truly okay until ......... Our efforts to better ourselves no matter how correct and sensible can feel like being on a hamster wheel. Self Acceptance is here and NOW - no conditions, no standards. It doesn't mean we're ignoring the things we would like to change, we just aren't including them in our equation of inherent worth and acceptability.
Self Acceptance doesn't makes us lazy, idle or complacent. All the research points to the fact that Self Acceptance is what actually sets the stage for growth and real change.
In this special solo show, I share some key strategies for why and how we need to make this important shift when it comes to stepping into our full personal power to create the health and wellbeing we truly desire.

As a holistic nutritionist, natural foods chef and student of Ayurveda, I know that the food we eat is doing so much more than making us thin or fat. Food is actually more than simply fats, proteins, carbs, and calories. Food is energy and all energy carries information. The food we eat communicates vibrationally to all layers or our being: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Ancient cultures and indigenous healing traditions are grounded in this knowing - that food is medicine because it provides a sacred connection to the earth; to nature herself.

For thousands of years, humans have lived in harmony with the sun and used its heat and light as medicine. But the skin cancer awareness campaigns of the past several decades have been so successful that many people no longer appreciate all of the good things the sun can do for the mind and body—or the dangers of not getting enough sunlight.
Long before the research explosion on Vitamin D, Dr. Richard Hobday, PhD, an internationally recognized researcher, writer has been teaching and writing just how beneficial the sun truly is to our lives.
He explains how the sun acts as a natural disinfectant, killing viruses and bacteria outdoors as well as inside buildings and how sunlight therapy has been used historically to prevent and treat serious health problems like tuberculosis and other infections in the years before antibiotics were developed. He highlights the role of sunlight in regard to conditions like osteoporosis, rickets, psoriasis, heart disease, and several forms of cancer.
Dr. Hobday shares how our modern artificially lit lifestyles can throw off our biological rhythms, create stress within the body, and lead to poor sleep as well as worsening eyesight, and weakened immunity. His research findings on sunlight, immunity and infectious disease which goes back more than a decade ago are truly prescient.
Bottomline, Dr. Hobday makes a compelling case for why and how we should welcome the healing sun back into our lives, and perhaps more than ever before how humanity needs to prioritize our relationship with nature for lasting health and vitality.

When it comes to our health and well being, learning how to harness the power of our minds is fundamental. Because the mind can heal.
An empowering path to understanding this fact is learning about our 6th Chakra aka The Third Eye. It's the unique confluence point of the physical, psychological and spiritual processes that make up our experience of life.
Learn the health benefits of strengthening your Third Eye:
The chakra system is a powerful map to understand all the different aspects of ourselves, our patterns and tendencies, growth and development and how it all comes together to create the physical, mental and emotional experiences we are having. It gives us a tool to support healing and integrating the various parts of ourselves. We learn how to use self awareness, deep listening and inner knowing to activate our innate self healing potential.

When we chronically suppress emotions, we create toxicity in our body mind energy system. This unprocessed emotional energy gets stored in our organs, muscles and tissues and unaddressed can lead to acute pain and disease.

Spiritual bypassing shows up in the holistic health and personal development world, the “good vibes only” groups, the "love and light" circles when spiritual development ignores psychology.
The term, spiritual bypassing was first coined during the early 1980s by Buddhist and psychotherapist , John Welwood in his book, Toward a Psychology of Awakening . It's defined as the tendency to use spiritual ideas and practices to sidestep unresolved emotional issues, psychological wounds and developmental needs.
It’s what’s happening for example when we find ourselves using meditation, yoga, bodywork, spiritual ideas - even healthy eating to avoid dealing with our unpleasant, unresolved emotional stuff.
Spiritual bypassing is a tempting defense strategy in today's complex world but it can have harmful emotional consequences and become an obstacle on the path to genuine spiritual development.
Learn how to identify it and what you can do to avoid it.
Metaphysics examines the fundamental nature of reality, In terms of disease, metaphysics teaches that there are distinct emotional and mental factors that contribute to the manifestation of disease.

Over the past year we've had to adapt to the limitations of pandemic life by creating a lifestyle that's now become safe and predictable, especially in light of the chaos and unknown. And now, we are faced with negotiating yet another unprecedented change — re-entry, as things start to open up. Trying to find our sea legs amidst the "new normal" is triggering a wide range of emotions for us all.
I'll share important strategies for how to best support our bodies and minds through this unique time and invite you to see the divine invitation before all of us to move ever more towards living a life true to who you are.
Today I dive deep into the subtle anatomy of the chakra system, looking at those energy centers in our body that provide a useful framework for mapping the body mind connection.
I explore the 3rd chakra, our solar plexus, known as the energy center of our personal power; where we have literally have that fire in our belly giving us the will to take empowered action in the world.
It encompasses all our digestive organs and can be seen as the place where we digest life, both physically in terms of the actual foods we eat as well as how we process all the situations and circumstances that life gives us.
On today's solo show, I explore how understanding the deep energetic intersection of low self esteem and metabolic challenges can help us heal some of the biggest food and weight challenges at the root. It’s a journey that goes beyond the workings of healing our gut microbiome, but rather into the realm of healing the precious relationship we have with ourselves.
Real lasting health is about balancing all aspects of our being. We can be eating the right foods, taking all the correct supplements, exercising well, maybe even have all the right things crossed off on our To Do List: Career, Family, Relationship, House, Bank Account ….BUT what happens when we still have chronic muscle pain, excess weight, digestive issues, sleep disturbances, fatigue, cravings or even the experience of anxiety, depression and disillusionment?
When our body is really struggling to find balance, maybe it's time to look deeper for the soul lesson.
On this episode, you'll meet an amazing woman whose journey of personal transformation shows us exactly what we need to do to bring balance into our lives to experience greater health and happiness., Petra Rakebrandt, author of YIN IS THE NEW BLACK.
Petra is a fellow holistic health coach and Yogi with training in life coaching, business coaching, integrative nutrition, Reiki, EFT, Polarity Therapy and CBT. In her book, she shares how divorce, constant sickness, and a stressful corporate job were the catalyst to wake up and start living the life she loves.

On this show we go deeper into the Law of Attraction, looking once again into the relationship between consciousness and our health and happiness. Health afterall goes way beyond our physical body - we all know it’s not simply what we eat, it’s how we work with the more subtle parts of our being, our emotions, our mind and our soul -- our ENERGY.
We can set goals, tick off all the to-do’s but if underlying all this doing is self doubt, fear, unresolved emotions of any kind our subconscious mind will always find a way to preserve the status quo. But the good news is that there are some very practical steps we can take to align with and have a more desirable experience of reality on a more consistent basis.
Today's guest is a Christy Whitman, a leader in helping others to consciously create the reality of our dreams and desires. In my own journey, I've to come to know the healing that comes from quieting the voice of our ego so we can hear the voice of inner wisdom, our higher self, our soul. The healing comes from having an underlying sense of well being regardless of what's going on in our circumstances and the power of intentional focus to transform our limiting beliefs. When we're inspired, having fun, and feeling a sense of wonder about life we're conncted to our divine inner being.
I spoke with Dr. Emma Farr Rawlings, author of The Divine Child - Your Soul’s Inner Voice - an awe-inspiring book that inspires us to reconnect that more subtle part of ourselves.
Growing up , Emma was close friends with a younger child (Brett) in her neighborhood. They had a special connection and often spoke of angels and God. He often told her that he knew Emma from before they were born; he knew her from the “spirit house”. Emma always felt a special connection to children and became passionate about interviewing other children in various cultures to see what they might say if asked “Where do you come from? Why are you here? This led to her book, The Divine Child: Your Soul’s Inner Voice which invites us to re-discover the joy of our own eternal child and see the wisdom inherent in the voices of children. In doing so, Emma offers a simple yet profound formula for creating a brighter, healthier future for humanity and the planet.
Emma has master's degrees in clinical psychology and cultural anthropology as well as a PhD in Behavioral Sciences. - She has been a consultant, coach, and trusted advisor for over 35 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as internationally, serving the technology and media/music industries, spiritual leaders and eco-leaders. She retired her Transpersonal Psychotherapy practice of four decades in 2014.

It’s a scientific fact Our ISSUES are IN OUR TISSUES.
The way that our brain and body process emotions is inextricably connected to our hormones, nervous system and our immune function.
Whether its anxiety, depression, emotional wounding, addictive behaviors, an eating disorder, body image struggles -- all our neuroses (and everybody’s got something if you are a human living on planet earth!) have roots in our physical body.
This means by using our thinking mind alone we cannot heal, navigate and grow through life’s inevitable challenges.
Yogis and those in the healing arts have long known that healing requires changing longstanding patterns in our body.
Trying to change the mind with the mind is like trying to stop a runaway train by yelling stop.
Learn what happens to our bodies when unprocessed emotions and toxic stress traps us in our minds and what you can do about it starting right now.

We know a heck of a lot about eating well, exercising etc.... So why is it so hard to let go of the habits that keep us stuck? Why do we say we want one thing and then go about making sure it doesn’t happen?
You might think it’s a lack of discipline, motivation or self control that causes you to self-sabotage your health goals.
But the truth is behind every problematic behavior there’s a personal payoff on a deeper level. There’s a hidden benefit, something outside of our conscious awareness, underlying the very situations that you say you want to change in your life.
What if there was a way to perceive our shortcomings and setbacks with greater understanding, more compassion and consequently find more creative and effective solutions to taking care of ourselves?

In last week’s episode I shared with you about the phenomenon of Cold Depression. In many ways the Crisis of Authenticity is a very much related topic. Because it’s this state of being alienated from ourselves that has the potential to create debilitating stress in our bodies. Living disconnected from who we truly are, who we are meant to be in this life manifests as chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, addictive behaviors, emotional reactivity, digestive imbalances and more.
There’s no shortcut to living as your authentic self - it requires a conscious commitment and genuine inner work. This awareness creates the space to shift your consciousness, release subconscious programming and explore a nurturing relationship with yourself.
Living authentically is a dynamic life long journey back to a sense of who and what you really are. It begins with with awareness. I share how the tools of self exploration, along with the technology of Kundalini Yoga and meditation became the path back home to my authentic self.
**New Live Virtual 7 Week Group Yoga Therapy Workshop - "Find Calm, Restore Vitality"
Starts Jan 20th
Learn why you're experiencing chronic busyness yet have a lack of fulfillment, why you feel disconnected from life, struggle with self care, have self sabotaging patterns, a prevailing sense of anxiety, or a loss of meaning in your life. It could be Cold Depression as chronicled in the Kundalini Yoga tradition as the single biggest challenge we face as we enter the Aquarian Age. Cold Depression disconnects us from our spirit, our authentic sense of self, our inner energy system. Navigating the epic change, information overload and unrelenting stress happening today is taking a significant toll on our nervous system. Instead of relying on adrenaline and external sources of energy, it's critical we learn to go within and unleash our own inner energy, which has an infinite reserve.
New Live Virtual Group Program: "Find Calm and Restore Vitality: Therapeutic Yoga for Balancing Hormones" Starts Jan 20th
Wow! What was that? Many predicted that 2020 would be the year of "perfect vision", of "blinding clarity". It most definitely was because it shined the light of awareness on outmoded ways of understanding our lives as well as the world around us.
In this final show of the year, I share my big lessons and takeaways that I hope we can use to reset our lives for the better. I invite you to do a short empowering self reflection that you can use to begin the process. And at the end of the episode I share my new group program that starts Jan 20th designed to help you thrive and not just survive the new normal as we begin 2021.
New Program Starts Jan 20th:

When difficult emotions like anger, guilt, and unworthiness go repressed and unhealed, the side effects impact our overall well-being by blocking the flow of vital energy in our life. In essence, emotional blocks are energy blocks, they’re below our level of conscious awareness. Common symptoms of emotional blocks are self sabotaging patterns, feelings of stagnation, frequent procrastination about the same issue, or repeating themes of conflict or drama in our lives.
Emotional blocks can also affect our physical well-being and show up in chronic and often debilitating symptoms such as headaches, chronic pain, digestive issues, immune challenges. Clearing emotional blocks requires healing at the root cause and since our bodies are energy systems, this means healing at the energetic level, in order to release the unhealthy bonds to past situations.
In this episode, I speak with Jenny Israel, a Medical Intuitive, Certified Energy Therapist and Spiritual Wellness Counselor. She is a Certified Life Coach and has been attuned in Reiki I, II and III and Levels 1-6 of the Seraphim Blueprint System. .Jenny started developing her intuitive and healing gifts in 2009. After dealing with her own health crisis a few years ago, she dove deeper into her healing profession. The ability to see her client's energy blocks began to strengthen and she soon realized that she was channeling information directly related to physical, emotional and mental illness.
Join me for a deep and captivating conversation about the energy body, spirituality, the role of consciousness in healing and how to understand and navigate these turbulent times through a metaphysical lens.

Chasing the latest superfood, fad diet in our pursuit of health can feel very impersonal and even dogmatic. But there’s another way to think about food when you explore a traditional “food as medicine” approach and rightfully embrace food as our natural ally in health. Today we dive into the ancient healing system of Traditional Chinese Medicine ("TCM") with a focus on two of its main components: acupuncture and nutritional healing.
This episode highlights the importance of listening to our body from a place of curiosity and cultivating our innate capacity to choose foods that support our individual health and wellbeing.
I speak with a highly regarded expert in the field of TCM, Ellen Goldsmith. For over 25 years Ellen has shared her passion for transformation through health, practicing Asian medicine and acupuncture, dietary therapy, Chinese herbs, body-mind health, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction programs supporting thousands of people on their path to reduced pain, stress, and regained vitality.
Ellen is co-founder of Pearl Natural Health, a naturopathic, acupuncture and Chinese medicine clinic in Portland, Oregon. She is on the faculty of the National University of Natural Medicine's College of Classical Chinese Medicine and the Helfgott School of Graduate= studies teaching Chinese dietetics as well as the Academy for Integrative Health and Medicine.
She is the author of a must have book, Nutritional Healing with Chinese Medicine: + 175 Recipes for Optimal Health, a book to help people understand and put the nourishing wisdom of Chinese medicine into everyday lives, where it matters most; the kitchen.

Perimenopause and menopause can be a traumatic time for women. Some of us can start to feel betrayed by the body that we thought we knew so well after all these years or perhaps it’s just the perfect storm that fuels a life long struggle with body hate even more. It’s normal and natural to feel frustrated and even a little angry. But if we can remember to show ourselves – and our changing bodies – some compassion and kindness, we can feel calmer and have an easier and healthier transition during menopause.
Navigating our changing bodies as we get into midlife is distressing but it’s made worse when we cling to intentional weight loss as the only answer. To effectively address our body’s needs during this turbulent time requires patience and a gentle approach. It’s time to commit to self care practices that affirm our inherent value beyond the size and shape of our bodies.
Erica Leon is a registered dietitian and eating disorder specialist and the owner of Erica Leon Nutrition, a group nutrition practice in White Plains, NY. In this honest and heartfelt conversation, we discuss how intuitive eating is an empowering strategy for dealing with menopausal and peri menopausal issues. We explore how the subtle and long lasting effects of diet culture are particularly damaging for those of us struggling with mid life health changes.

Health At Every Size, By Lindo Bacon, PhD
I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Lindo Bacon who has been a well respected researcher and professor in the fields of physiology, psychology and exercise metabolism for almost 20 years and who is widely known for transforming the discourse on weight with the body positivity movement.
They are the best selling author of paradigm shifting books: Health at Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight and the co-author of Body Respect: What Conventional Health Books Get Wrong, Leave Out, or Just Plain Fail to Understand about Weight. Both these books have helped to expand the Health at Every Size philosophy which at the core is a social justice framework that respects the diversity of body shapes and sizes, supporting equitable access to health care, and rejecting weight discrimination and stigma.
In this heartwarming conversation, we talk about Dr. Bacon's newly released book Radical Belonging - How To Survive and Thrive In An Unjust World (While Transforming It For the Better). *In this authentic consciousness raising memoir, they ask us to explore the ways that power, privilege and disadvantage complicate the experience of our bodies. Dr. Bacon invites us to an elevated conversation about diet, size and weight that goes beyond the self help approach and through the lens of social justice.
Their paradigm goes right to the root cause of our body struggles by evaluating the social conditioning and culture that gives rise to all the self harming habits, compulsions that derail our health. It lightens the burden of toxic shame and self blame but it' s also beautiful all to action for building a more compassionate and equitable world.
Dr. Bacon’s book touched me deeply because it goes to the heart of our shared struggle - we all know in one way or another the pain of living a life based on not who we truly are - the pain of not feeling at home in our skin - safe in our very own bodies. The cost of being deprived of this basic sense of belonging taxes our health and wellbeing on all levels.

When it comes to exercising our bodies, we have to navigate the similar dogma that pervades the nutrition world where the obsession with “diet” and “weight loss” dominates the conversation. The impetus for moving our bodies needs to go way beyond burning calories, thinner thighs and 6 pack abs. We need to embrace the depth of benefits that comes when we learn to coordinate and control our bodies in ways that activate the full healing capacity of this incredible organism that we occupy.
Today I speak to Kristin Mann, owner of Mannkind Pilates in Ridgewood, NJ. In this solo episode, I share with you my insights into #1 habit that derails our best intentions to live a healthy and fulfilling life - Self Abandonment. I’ve come to see that when it comes to our unwanted habits around food, weight, our struggles to live a healthy balanced lifestyle, there’s a deep connection to an inability to stay with ourselves.
Self Abandonment is the destructive pattern of living that drains our life force energy and distances us from our soul. It's the pattern we need to bring awareness to if we want to heal and transform our relationship with food.
By cultivating a spiritual practice we can wisely manage our fear and worry so they don’t turn into health derailing stress and anxiety. Ancient practices such as meditation and yoga are now backed up and being recommended by neuroscientists, psychotherapists, doctors alike as essential tools for health and well being in the modern world.
Investing in our spiritual well being connects us to the ultimate source of peace, stability and vitality within. The goal of spiritual self care is to foster a sense of equanimity and steadiness and even joy amidst the hard stuff in life. Nonetheless exploring our spiritual nature is not simply a means to escape reality; nor is it passivity in life; in fact it’s actually what infuses our outer life with immense power and effectiveness.
I speak today with a true authority on this important topic. Philip Goldberg has been a spiritual teacher for the more than 45 years drawing on the yogic traditions as well as psychology and scientific research in mind body health. He is the author and co-author of some 25 books published in more than a dozen languages. His popular book American Veda in 2010 and The Life of Yogananda in 2018 received deep praise from thought leaders and experts in spiritual, holistic health, medical and academic fields. Phil is an inspiring public speaker and spiritual counselor. He is a writer for Spirituality and Health Magazine, Elephant Journal and Huffington Poast. Phil is also co-host of the Spirit Matters Podcast.
In this show, we dive into Phil's latest book that came out in the midst of this global pandemic: “Spiritual Practice for Crazy Times” - Powerful Tools to Cultivate Calm, Clarity and Courage. This book available on Amazon is a rich and practical resource for anyone who’s struggling to find balance these days. It’s a remedy for our time packed with insightful instruction to enhance your whole being.
Join me for this down to earth conversation and come away with renewed motivation to commit to your spiritual self care that will center your mind, heal your body and recharge your soul.

Today’s show is a beautiful conversation about what it genuinely means to adopt a soul centered approach to our food, weight and body image challenges.
The paradigm we explore is fundamental in holistic health and healing. And that is: "We are not human beings striving to be Spiritual; we are already Spiritual Beings." Meaning that before we were born into this physical world, first and foremost, we are eternal Souls.
We can think of our soul as that part within us where unconditional love, everlasting forgiveness, compassion, peace and joy resides. Our soul is that little piece of the Divine that’s signed up to be here to experience this life and all its lessons. And when you learn how to tend to your soul, life becomes a beautiful thing.
I speak with Elizabeth Tripp, a recognized thought leader in spirituality and health, Lifestyle Design Coach and gifted intuitive who has helped hundreds of people achieve greater health by reconnecting with their soul guidance, with their true infinite nature.
Elizabeth is a featured radio talk show host on TalkRadio.NYC, a Thrive Global Contributor, and a national public speaker. You can learn more about her at www.elizabethtripp.com and Instagram: @elizabethmtripp.

While ancient healing traditions have long understood the complexity of the interaction between brain, mind and gut, Western medicine has been slow to depart from it’s mechanistic approach of the human body. But there is a microbiome revolution happening which is embracing a more accurate and complex model of the human body as an ecosystem where our gut microbiota - the trillions of microorganisms that live inside our digestive tract are giving us a whole new appreciation for the complex interplay of Food, Mood, Emotions, Metabolism and more.
In my interview with Dr. Emeran Mayer, professor of medicine and executive director of the UCLA Center for Neurobiology of Stress, he shares how we can harnass the power of the biological link between the mind and the digestive system to take charge of our health.
Dr. Mayer is a gastroenterologist, neuroscientist, and the author of the bestselling book, The Mind Gut Connection who has been studying this interaction for over forty years.
