Celebrating Women's History Month and acknowledging Alicia Garza with HerStory read by Mrs. Solomon. When the verdict came out, Alicia Garza, a Black and queer political organizer based in California’s Bay Area, took to Facebook to express her feelings. She wrote a series of posts titled “A Love Letter to Black People,” which included her writing that “I continue to be surprised at how little Black lives matter... stop giving up on black life.” At the conclusion of her post, Garza ended with an affirmation: “Black people. I love you. I love us. Our lives matter.”

8th grader Taylor N. from GMS reads about Kat Blaque and HerStory as we celebrate Women's History Month. Kat Blaque is a transgender rights activist and runs a YouTube channel focused on social justice issues, particularly around race, gender, the LGBTQ+ community, and feminism. Kat was born and raised in Los Angeles, California where she earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts. Kat also manages a YouTube series called True Tea where she answers viewers’ questions on topics such as racism, transphobia, and black culture. In addition to her work on YouTube, Kat has animated several short films, including “Sometimes You’re a Caterpillar.”
