This week we are releasing a bonus episode that we usually share only with our Live Free Collective Members.

In the non-diet world, it’s hard to get personal support and community on a regular basis. Like when you’re eating dinner and everyone is talking about their diet. Or at a baby shower and your great aunt is giving the mom to be tips for how to lose the baby weight. It can feel like you are the only one in the world who wants to stop dieting.

It can be hard to take action after listening to our podcast because change doesn’t happen in isolation. Change happens with a community of support.

You need community because the community you are coming from is stuck in diet culture. You need a support system that is moving forward in the anti-diet world. You need to know that there are others working to stop weighting and show up exactly as they are.

When we do this work in community, we actually get results. That’s why we are launching the Live Free Collective, a membership where you can get the support and strength you need to leave diet culture behind and LIVE FREE.

Each month members have access to:

  • An exclusive meditation they can access right on their phone
  • Desktop and phone wallpapers that will keep you encouraged
  • A downloadable workbook with journal prompts and mantras
  • Access to group discussions
  • Monthly Coaching call with Q & A

Don't "WAIT" another moment to Live Free! Go to werenotweighting.com/livefreecollective to join.

Have you ever thought about what kind of eater you are?

We’ll dive into why this is a helpful piece of information for you as you recover your intuitive eater.

This episode is about the eating personalities, as defined in the Intuitive Eating book by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. They’ve identified some of the main types of approaches we have to eating in order for us to understand our subconscious way of feeding ourselves.

Learning about what type of eating personality you often default to will help you from getting too hungry, from disconnecting with your body, or from missing your last bite threshold. This all is part of building interoceptive awareness.

WTF is Interoceptive Awareness?

Interoception involves communication between a bodily sensation and our brain processing the information to support physical and emotional wellbeing, and ultimately a response. The ability to access interoceptive awareness varies greatly from person to person; for some it is relatively easy and little guidance is needed and for others, it can take training and practice.

Any type of conscious restriction causes us to detach from our body signals and ignore what is happening. The disconnect causes us to be confused and unable to read what our body is actually telling us.

In this episode, we discuss how Intuitive Eating helps us tap into our interoceptive awareness.

You may have heard about toxic positivity. Toxic positivity is the belief that no matter how dire or difficult a situation is, people should maintain a positive mindset. It's a "good vibes only" approach to life.

If you look at social media they would have you believe that body positivity is about loving your body and thinking good things about it at all times. That you have gone from hating it to loving it and there is never an off day. The problem with that is we are not robots, we can’t only ever feel one way. We call that Toxic Body Positivity.

This episode answers….WTF is Healthism?

With a shift in making wellness more of a lifestyle, we have gotten caught up in the idea that we can control more of our health than we actually can. This healthism mentality has affected various socioeconomic levels and created a divide between those who can afford a wellness lifestyle and those who cannot.

In this episode, we explain why health is not an achievement, and how to go about prioritizing healthy habits with a non-diet mentality.

One of the main reasons we turn to dieting is because we don’t feel safe, valued, or accepted in our bodies as they are. So we disconnect from it and force it to change. ⁣

We are so obsessed with the way our bodies look on the outside, we are not present inside of them. We look outside of ourselves for how to care for it.⁣

Embodiment is the act of being present with our body, tuning into what it is telling us and connecting with it. ⁣

In this week's episode, WTF is Embodiment?, we talk about how we can use embodiment to heal our relationship with food and our bodies. ⁣

In this episode, Tonya talks about her deconstruction and reconstruction of faith. Tonya addresses the effect purity culture had on her intimate relationships as well as how dieting within the church became toxic for her. If you scroll through social media you might see photos of women showing off their rolls and proclaiming they love them. Which we are all about, we think that visibility and representation are so important and we need to see all bodies, not just the ones that the media portrays.

The problem is, your relationship with your body can’t be captured in an Instagram photo. Just like everything else on Instagram, it is a highlight reel and it isn’t a true picture of what your relationship with your body looks like.

You can have a good relationship with your body and loving it isn’t a prerequisite for doing that.

This episode answers the question, what the actual eff is HAES?

You might have heard a bit about Health at Every Size when you’re learning about Intuitive Eating, but not really understood how it correlates with the anti-diet movement.

Measures of body weight and body size do not accurately reflect an individual’s health status and often lead to ineffective interventions rather than efforts that actually enhance health and wellness.

In this episode, we unpack a few common myths of HAES® and truly hope you walk away with a better understanding of how the Health at Every Size principles are based on inclusivity and support the Intuitive Eating movement.

We have been conditioned from birth to hate the way we look. Movies show us the stereotypical fat girl who can't get a man until she gets a make over. She's the best friend, the butt of the joke, a consolation prize never the main character.

We have tv shows like FRIENDS who portray fat Monica and make jokes about her eating small children.

We go to the doctors and instead of diagnosing why we are there, they prescribe weight loss as the only way to cure disease.

We see celebrities like Adele completely transforming the way they look. And others who are bullied and ridiculed for gaining weight.

Is it any wonder we have such a hard time accepting and love our bodies? ⁣

On this week's episode of the podcast we are talking about how to reframe and take back your body image from diet culture.⁣

This week we are talking about weight gain, it feels like in our body positive world we can’t talk about weight gain unless it is positive.

This is unfortunate because we live in a society that demonizes weight gain so of course we will have negative feelings about weight gain and we want to give you permission to have those feelings.

We add extra stress on those feelings when we feel badly about having feelings. Weight gain doesn’t mean something negative is happening.

Listen to this week’s episode where we answer, How you move past those feelings and how you work on accepting your changing body.

In the episode, we go over some common wellness culture terminology so you can spot the sneaky wellness culture influence and identifying your place in wellness culture.

Wellness culture is sneaky. We don't even realize how it creeps up into our thoughts around food and body, let alone how we spend our time and money.

Wellness culture is the cousin of Diet Culture. It’s that quiet nice sidekick to the loud annoying villain. The one where you almost think you could get along if it wasn’t for their affiliation to the enemy.

We challenge you to think about how wellness culture thoughts or habits have affected your ability to care for yourself in an authentic way.

As a personal stylist, Dacy Gillespie intuitively guides her clients to discover what they feel best in. She helps them let go of the external messages they’ve been given about what they should wear and get to the heart of what’s making them uncomfortable about their clothes. Through their work building a functional wardrobe, Dacy’s clients make a mindset shift from thinking they need to wear what’s flattering to unapologetically taking up space in the world.

This episode includes info about mindful consumption and why women are told we need to buy things to be good enough. How to let go of external messages telling us what we "should" wear and how to uncover our own authentic style.

This is such a fun conversation with Dacy!

It seems like everywhere you look body positivity has exploded on the scene. This is good and bad. It’s wonderful that this concept is going mainstream even if it feels at times to be a bit performative. It’s so nice to know that this conversation is moving forward.

But I do wish though that it had a different name. I think it’s easy to misinterpret it as meaning positive about my body. And we might not always feel positive about our bodies and that's okay.

Have you ever wondered who is behind all of the popular diets these days? The goal of us sharing this info is to bring awareness as to the common origins and common themes we see within these diet programs.

We divided them up into different categories, multi-level marketing (MLM’s) selling meal replacements such as bars and shakes, Cleanses and detox diets, and paid subscription programs.

What we found was there was a common pattern of the majority of them being white cisgender males. Most of these diet creators also had no background in nutrition or dietetics. These people are behind the loud diet culture messages that affect our ability to accept that all bodies are good bodies.

Trigger warning--this episode contains general info about diet plans and the intended results of restrictive diets. While we have tried to keep as much language as neutral as we can, if you are in a place of vulnerability to believe the best diet plan is still out there, this episode may not be for you. It’s totally ok to “weight” until you are ready to hear this information.

We hope this email encourages you to stop "weighting" and start living your life today.

Our download guide will help reflect how dieting has affected your life, and how you can still pursue health without prioritizing weight loss. Click here to grab your copy. Already subscribed? Check your inbox.

When you are dieting, you are constantly telling yourself that a later version of who you are will be where you would find happiness and contentment. You are never content with your present self, body, situation, etc. Your hope is always on that next dieting, a new workout plan, losing x amount of weight. So when you stop dieting, you start to understand that your happiness no longer rests in the next thing. You are fully in this present moment with your given body.

You are then left with what is right in front of you. But it’s uncomfortable to sit in that tension. We don’t know how to just be with ourselves. If you have thought, okay I get that I am no longer putting off living until later, I am living now but what does that even look like?

If you are ready to take action and start living in today, this episode is for you.

We mentioned our interview with Karishma Donde and her breathwork. You can listen here.

Karishma started Coaching with Karishma out of her love for helping others. Being a first-generation immigrant, she recognized that there were cultural constructs that were holding her back from living out her wildest dreams and now helps others to live their own empowered lives by breaking free of their own cultural standards, people pleasing, perfectionism, and high-performing anxiety through breathwork & coaching.

Natural medicine and Ayurveda were a part of her cultural upbringing and she loved it so much that she would unofficially give her friends and other family members advice on living a healthier (antibiotics/prescription free life). This lifestyle and off-the-books mentoring taught her how to lead with her intuition and create individualized healing plans for her clients.
