This week I wanted to talk about a comic I loved as and kid and still hold near and dear to my heart, Micronauts. I go over the masterpiece that is issue #1 by Bill Mantlo, Michael Golden, and other. They crafted an amazing first chapter to the series. Micronauts will return in a Marvel Omnibus coming out early next year and I can't wait, to reread the whole series and do some episodes about it. The Legionaires are prisoners in the Super-Stalag in Space in the 1966 classic of the same name. Hamilton, Swan, and Klein bring this two issue masterpiece, at least how Ross sees it. It has breaking rocks in the yard, escape tunnels, giant deadly lilly pads, and the barrack's rat.

Danger Street Book Two is out and Ross has to read 1st Issue Special #2 introducing The Green Team by Joe Simon (Co-Creator of Captain America) and Jerry Grandenetti. It's one weird comic. Danger Street is taking the charactors in a different direction. King and Fornes's work on Book Two is solid and engaging. At least it got Ross and you can tell how excited he was about it.

It's a triple header, Adventure Comics 338 and 339, plus Superboy Volume 1 #125. Three very different stories, with such charaters as the Time Trapper, Gorith of Buuldar, Kid Psycho, and Beast Boy, hero of Lallor. Time Trapper turns the Legionairres into terrible twos, Beast Boy is shunned and then makes the ultimate sacrifice, and Kid Pyscho is a hero in spite of the Legion's rejection.
All this and the final Legion adventure drawn my John Forte. I will always love his stories and sing their prasies.

Okay were up to Defenders Volume 1 issues 15 and 16. Nighthawk first full adventure as a member of the team and he is sporting new duds. The team comes to the aid of Professor X to battle the old school Magneto, the crazy overtop camp villain. Len Wein, Sal Buscema, Klaus Janson, and Mike Esposito craft a fun two parter. Not a grand as an Englehart issue and not a fun as the upcoming Gerber run, but worth a read
It's time to talk Adventure Comics 327 and 328, the intros of Lone Wolf (future Timber Wolf) and Command Kid (one and done charactor). Both are pretty fun and it is neat see another artist on the book with the lovely Jim Mooney art on 328. Ross really is happy to be back after a week with no Legion issues read.

Neat to see one writer bring two different storie using a similar trope. Both pure Silver Age Legion!

Of course they can. Another fun comic from Weisinger, Hamilton and Forte. Ross is happy too, Element Lad and Star Boy both appear
The Hulk and Thor duke it out in Downtown Los Angeles. Slamming Sal Buscema knocks it out of the panel... park. The Avengers and Defenders make peace just in time for Dormammu's plan to come to fruition. The final battle is in the next chapter but this comic is a blast. Even if 25% of it a meeting.
Time for a side trip to the world of Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, and issue 76 of the title. Jimmy tries to impress Lucy Lane and ends up in a series of adventures with Light Lass, Saturn Girl, and Triplicate Girl who all seem to have fallen for him. This the closet you will get to a Silver Age Legion Romance Comic.

Chapters 7 and 8 of the Avengers-Defenders Wars. Swordsman monolouges about his need for redemtion and an amazing swordfight squence with the Valkryie. Then two old pros Cap and Subby are interupted by Sunfire. This is an issue I find fun and stunningly drawn by Bob Brown.
Adventure Comics 318 is all about Legion going all Mutiny on the Bounty, with Sun Boy as Captain Bligh. Solid Hamilton and Forte Legion fun. Full space dragons, space bees, and cute blue aliens. It's time to talk Avenger/Defenders War Chapters 2 and 3 in Avengers Volume 1 #116 by Englehart and Brown. Alot of plot and bag guys plotting and one heck of a battle in an active volcano. Does this issue deliver the right about bang for the buck, and is continueity the king?
Ultra Boy gets a starring role in out latest Legion Tale. A great two panel origin story and he leads his fellow Legionairees on a merry chase. Oh and Ross is happy we get to see Element Lad in action. Check out Adventure Comics 316 on the DC Infinite app in all it's glory, and it's unique John Forte aliens. Yo Gaba Gaba !
I love to checking out an old comic series for the first time. I have never read the 90s New Warriors, but now I have. Here are my brief thoughts on the first six issues and the two part Thor story where they make their first appearance. Such fun brought to the world by some great talents. Fabian Nicieza, Mark Bagley, Al Williamson, Larry Mahlstadt, Tom Defalco, Ron Frenz, and Joe Sinnott. Also let not forget the our heroes, Night Trasher, Speedball, Namorita, Firestar, Kid Nova, and Marvel Boy.

Ross' joy this week was another Legion of Substitute-Heroes story. Adventure Comics 315 has the Legion find out about the Subs. As a reward for being a good team they must not compete against each other for a single slot in the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Just finished The Marvels Project Hardcover and had to give you my quick take on it. Another stunning story from Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting. They create the story of the early days of Marvel's superheroes at the onset of World War II. Thomas Halloway, the Golden Age Angel is our narrator takes us on an amazing journy.

Ross is up to Defenders Volume 1 Issue 5. The Silver Surfer returns and the Non-Team fight Cyrus Black and his dream monsters. Ross hates all rats execpt the ones drawn by Sal Buscema. We are inching closer to the Avengers/Defenders War.

This week we jump over to another Superman family book Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #72. Jimmy has his Legion Super-Initiation Test. High jinx ensue. Fun story by Jerry Seigel and wonderful art by Curt Swan and George Klien.

Valkyrie goes on a bonding trip with Namor and Hulk. It doesn't go the way she wanted. The trio of Defenders and Namorita end up fighting the Omegatron. A pretty fun comic by Englehart and Sal Buscema. Valkyrie gets to know her new freind and her place in the world she has been brought into.
We are to a favorite comic of Ross' the return from the dead of Lightning Lad. It's a comic that blew mind when I read it in the 80s. I really cement Legion as a true favorite comic. A classic from Weisinger, Hamilton and Forte.
I had the pleasure to chat to writer Paul Kupperberg about comics, with a little extra attention to the introduction of the New Doom Patrol in Showcase issues 94-96 from 1977. The Defenders get a new member and in my open the greatest Defender. I can only gush about a comic with the intro of Valkyrie and a team-up with one of my favorite Avengers, Dane Whitman, the Black Knight. All that and the artistic talents of Englehart, S Buscema, and the the rest. The Defenders Volume 1 #4
Yay! More Legion of Substitute Heroes. This time very are force to fight their idols, but are they. Another neat little Silver Adventure in the 30th Century by Weisinger, Hamilton, and Forte. I hope you enjoy it.
The Defenders get some back directions and end up in a bad space. They fight the Nameless Ones while attempting to free Barbara Norris. Action and angst ensues. Another great comic by Steve Englehart and Sal Buscema.
An Imp from the 5th Dimension visits the Legion and cause mayhem. Biggest batch of Legionnaires in a single issue up this point and they don't do so well againest the decendent of Mr Mxyzptlk
Extra long episode this week. Ross wanted to give an insight into what he is reading. He gives you his take on nine comics that he picked up a couple weeks ago at the his local comic shop, Velocity Comics in Richmond Virginia. He also gives you his opinon on how feels about the state of current comics. These are just his musings take them with a huge grain of salt.

Superman meets the New Doom Patrol and battle Ambush Bus in his first appearance. This is a funny, action packed, wonderfully written, stunningly drawn tale. I could not love this comic more. ...... Ambush Bug made me say all that ..HELP!

It's the Avengers 59th Birthday so I thought I do a short little episode about the first issue of one of my favorite comics. It is full of Stan Jack fun. I have alwasy thought this issue and the first 10 issues are absolute classics.
It's time to chat about The Defenders vs Dormammu. Dormammu invades Rutalnd Vermont. Roy Thomas meets Dormammu. Wong and Clea gather the Defenders to save Dr Strange from Dormammu. Ross says Dormammu a lot.
It's time to introduce the Legion of Substitute Heroes. This group of amazing "never say never' kind of heroes are a joy to behold. Adventure Comics 306 is a great comic book and just what I need to brighten my day and week.
Ross gives you his honest feelings about the final Issue of Brave and the Bold , featuring the Earth-Two and Earth-One Batmen. Mike W. Barr and Dave Gibbons give us a lesson in not only storytelling but has to honor the differences in styles between eras. It is a beautiful comic.

You all picked the comic, Brave and the Bold 87 starring Batman and the New Wonder Woman. A vey Mod story featuring the depowered Diana Prince. Batman is in a Grand Prix race verses the evil race driver Von Dort, the Widow Macer. This a fun little tale written and drawn by Mike Sekowsky.
Sub-Mariner, The Silver Surfer, and The Hulk team up and free the island nation of San Pablo. Freeing it from the clutches of The General. One more issue till the team gets it's own title... or is is it.

I had a blast reading Marvel Team-Up #22 with Spider-Man and Hawkeye vs the Quasi-Motivational Destruct Organ, or Quasimodo for short. I really do love Hawkeye, he is my favorite Avenger and maybe my favorite comic charater of all time. Go on the Marvel App and give this fun little adventure a read. The issue this week is Incredible Hulk 126 by Roy Thomas and Herb Trimpe. Hulk and the future host of the Valkyrie is introduced. Ross sings the praise of the art of Herb Trimpe and of this comic in general. Please let him know what you think about this comic and of the podcast in general.
It isn't always sunny for Sun Boy. Sun Boy loses his powers, gets booted from the Legion, gets harassed by Kranyak and 4 Henchmen, and gets power up from a dragon with heart burn. Got to love the year 2962.
I just felt like gushing about the two Legion Treasury Editions from DC and the lovely hardcover reprint of C-55. They are such fun and brought wonderful memories of my early comic reading
We journey to Atlanits and Boston as Sub-Mariner and Doctor Strange duke it out with The Undying Ones, The Nameless Ones, and a demonic cat. Monkey the demon cat of my household approves.
It's time to talk Adventure Comics 301, The Origin of Bouncing Boy! More fun from Weisinger, Siegel, and Forte. Chuck Taine is a character that shines in this issue as he will continue through out the history of the Legion.

We lost one of the greats this week. Neal Adams one of the most influential comic artist of a generation who crdated or updated some of the most important comics of the 70s if not all time. Ross pick one of his favorite comics Brave and the Bold 85, featuring Batman and Green Arrow
I am up to Action Comics 289 featuring a Supergirl story callled Superman's Super-Courtship. Kara tries to set Clark up with Helen of Troy, Staturn Woman, and as Superwoman who looks like her. This is as close as I have ever gotten to a romance comic
The final chapter in this first adventure of the Liberty Legion from Marvel Premeire 30. A fun tale by Roy Thomas and Don Heck. A comic that brings on waves of nostaliga of 40s stories. Also Ross rambles on a bit of another comic team he likes and how his view change on when he is reading a comic. Hope you enjoy it.
