Can kindness provide real solutions in a polarized and divided culture? If we paid more attention to it, would it make much of a difference? We believe the answer is, “Yes!” But we know we’re more effective working together than alone, and something exponentially powerful happens when we do. In each episode, we share kindness stories, opportunities for kindness, and ways we can partner to serve more people.
What does healing really look like after trauma?
In this powerful episode of Visible Kindness, Ed sits down with Mary Martin, a physical therapist, Pilates instructor, and founder of Accidentally Healthy. With more than 26 years of experience helping people heal physically, Mary has come to believe that true health is about far more than muscles and movement—it's about relationships, faith, community, and creating the conditions where healing can begin.
Mary shares how witnessing heartbreaking conditions inside nursing homes during COVID changed the course of her life, why she's challenging traditional ideas about health, and how her family's journey supporting her niece through trauma has deepened her understanding of courage, advocacy, and hope.
This conversation explores difficult topics with honesty while pointing toward healing, resilience, and kindness.
In this episode:
• Redefining what it means to be healthy
• The hidden impact of trauma
• Why healing involves the whole person
• Lessons learned inside nursing homes during COVID
• Supporting loved ones through unimaginable circumstances
• Faith, family, and finding hope again
No matter what you've walked through, this conversation is a reminder that healing is possible—and kindness still changes lives.

Thank you for listening and for being part of the Visible Kindness community.
What if one of television's most popular dramas isn't really about medicine?
Watching Grey's Anatomy for the first time surprised me. Beneath the hospital setting, I found something much deeper—people struggling to belong, trying to prove themselves, hiding fear behind confidence, and wondering if they were enough.
In this first episode of Visible Kindness Reflections, I'm not reviewing the show. Instead, I'm sharing the life lessons it stirred within me and how they connect to my own journey through trauma, healing, faith, and kindness.
I also tell the true story of a chance encounter with a woman outside a grocery store that forever changed how I look at strangers and first impressions.
Every person we meet has a story that's still being written.
Maybe the greatest act of kindness is choosing to see beyond what appears on the surface.
In this episode: * Why so many of us feel we have to earn our worth * The hidden struggles behind confidence and perfection * Why first impressions are often incomplete * A true story that reshaped my understanding of kindness * This week's Visible Kindness Challenge

Jesus said the second greatest commandment is this:
"Love your neighbor as yourself."
But what did He actually mean?
In this solo episode of Visible Kindness, Ed explores one of the most familiar teachings in Scripture and challenges a common modern assumption—that Jesus was teaching us to love ourselves first before we can love others.
Drawing from Matthew 22, Luke 10, and the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Ed examines what Jesus said, what He didn't say, and why understanding the difference matters.
As a survivor of significant trauma, Ed also shares how shame, guilt, and a distorted self-image affected his understanding of this passage for many years. Through Scripture, he discovered a powerful truth:
Perhaps loving ourselves biblically isn't about self-esteem.
Perhaps it's about seeing ourselves the way God sees us—adopted, forgiven, redeemed, and loved.
This episode is a thoughtful conversation about faith, identity, grace, healing, and what it truly means to love our neighbors.

From Nairobi to Northern Kenya: Feeding programs, youth outreach, and the power of a simple Gospel
In this powerful episode of Visible Kindness, Ed Squire sits down with Pastor Agnes Munyao, a woman who made a life-changing decision to leave the comfort of Nairobi and follow what she believed was a calling from God into one of the most underserved regions of Kenya.
What began as a single visit turned into a full-time mission.
Agnes is now the acting director of the Light Christian Community-Based Organization, where she and her team are serving vulnerable communities through:
• Feeding programs for children facing severe hunger • Scholarships helping kids return to school • Youth camps reaching hundreds of children at a time • Leadership training and support for local churches • Evangelism in remote and hard-to-reach areas
One of the most powerful moments in this conversation comes when Agnes shares how children who were labeled as "street kids" were not homeless at all—they were simply walking long distances in search of food.
Through a simple feeding program—just one meal a day—many of these children returned home… and back to school.
Agnes also reflects on a deeply personal moment where a group of women asked her to repeat the same message about the Gospel again and again—not because they were confused, but because they had never heard it explained so simply before.
"The Gospel is simple… and it's enough."
This episode is a reminder that kindness doesn't have to be complicated—and that sometimes the most powerful impact comes from the simplest acts of love, consistency, and faith.
Agnes also shares the real challenges behind the work, including limited funding, difficult travel conditions, and the urgent need to build a permanent community center to support children and outreach efforts.
How You Can Support Agnes is currently working toward building a community space that will provide:
• A safe place for children to gather • A kitchen for feeding programs • A training and outreach center • A space for education, creativity, and growth

In Part 2 of this powerful conversation, I sit down again with Nicole Moehring to go deeper into the reality of abuse, justice, and the challenges families face when navigating systems that don't treat every child equally.
Nicole shares the heartbreaking truth of how her two children — both victims of abuse — were treated very differently. Her daughter was heard. Justice was served. But her son, who has autism, was not given the same voice… and his case remains unresolved.
This episode goes beyond the story. It reveals the deeper issues that many families face — especially those raising children with disabilities — and why awareness, education, and advocacy are more important than ever.
WHAT YOU'LL HEAR IN THIS EPISODE * Why some victims are taken seriously… and others are not * The hidden risks children with disabilities face * The emotional toll of navigating a broken system * Why abuse is often not reported — and who is really responsible * How Nicole turned her pain into purpose through Voices of Change * The importance of education, prevention, and ongoing conversations
💡 ABOUT NICOLE MOEHRING Nicole Moehring is an advocate, speaker, and founder of Voices of Change, an organization dedicated to reducing the risk of abuse for children with disabilities and supporting families through education and resources.
After experiencing the devastating reality of abuse within her own family, Nicole has committed her life to raising awareness and creating meaningful change — ensuring that every child is seen, heard, and protected.

Years ago, I stood on a stage in front of over 1,000 people—right after the FBI spoke—and admitted something I never thought I would say out loud: I used to be a "John." It was one of the most difficult and humbling moments of my life, but it wasn't the moment that truly changed me.
The real turning point happened months earlier in a Starbucks. After sharing the truth about my life with someone for the very first time, I thought the conversation was over. But God had something else in mind. An 18-year-old girl turned around and asked me a simple question—one that cut straight through years of silence, shame, and self-deception.
In that moment, I couldn't hide anymore.
That question didn't just expose my past—it revealed the truth I had been avoiding. And it became the beginning of real transformation. Not through performance, not through pretending, but through truth… and through the quiet, persistent presence of God, who had never left me—even in the darkest parts of my life.
This episode is one of the most personal stories I've ever shared. It's about brokenness, honesty, and the unexpected ways God begins to redeem what we thought was beyond repair.
If this story speaks to you, I encourage you to take the next step.

In this deeply personal solo episode, I share a story I've never told publicly before.
I open up about being sexually abused as a child, how that trauma shaped my life for decades, and what happened when I visited my abuser on his deathbed.
This is not a story about minimizing pain or bypassing justice. It's about what forgiveness actually looks like when it's grounded in truth, faith, and time.
In this episode, I also share five biblically grounded insights on healing from trauma, including: – Why forgiveness is an act of obedience, not emotion – How to bring anger honestly into God's presence – Why releasing revenge is essential for freedom – How bitterness binds us long after abuse ends – Why trusting God with justice brings lasting peace
If you've experienced trauma — especially abuse — this episode is for you.

In this episode Debra McNinch a devoted wife, mother, first-time author, and a passionate prayer warrior talks about the movement she founded called "Battle Cry". This became a prayer movement dedicated to bringing prodigals home through the power of prayer. Her motto, "NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE," is a cry for parents to unite in the fight for our children.
Debrah said, "My life was on track to be perfect until an unexpected phone call changed everything. When my child came out as transgender, life as I knew it, would never be the same. The days, weeks, and years that followed that announcement were full of uncertainty and fear as I watched the Christian values I instilled in my child, faded away."

What is Soul Hygiene? Soul Hygiene refers to the ongoing practice of nurturing, and maintaining a healthy, balanced state of mind, body, and spirit.
On this episode, TJ boldy shares her story about what she has dealt with in her emotional and spiritual life that took her from the bottom where trauma, suicide, and depression overwhelmed her to becoming a healed woman by the power of Jesus Christ.
TJ describes Soul Hygiene as a progress that involves engaging in activities and practices that promote self-care, self-reflection, and spiritual growth, such as meditation, mindfulness, creative expression, and cultivating positive relationships. By taking care of one soul, we're become able to accept responsibility and learn to be accountable for our actions. At the same time, we'll strengthen our resilience, enhance our well-being, and experience a greater sense of inner peace and joy, using all the tools within us, to not just survive life, but to Live it.
The bottom line is we must learn and grow every day, and the only way we can do this is to face our trauma and make the choice to NOT be a Victim or remain one. It is never too late! We are Warriors, not just survivors. Soul Hygiene a Brand-Movement

When I was at my doctor's office for a regular appointment, my doctor noticed I was having a bipolar manic episode and called an ambulance to pick me up and take me to emergency at the hospital.
In this episode I talk about how that happened and why it motivated me to talk openly about this mental health disorder.
Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings, ranging from manic or hypomanic episodes to depressive episodes. These shifts can significantly impact a person’s energy levels, ability to think clearly, and day-to-day functioning.
Bipolar disorder is more common than many people realize, affecting roughly 2.8% of adults in the U.S. each year. Importantly, it’s not just moodiness or “having a bad day.” It’s a complex condition with biological, genetic, and environmental influences. CONNECT WITH ED:

In this episode Ed discusses what Is the Butterfly Effect is from a scientific and medical perspective. What is the Butterfly Effect?
"A butterfly could flap its wings and set molecules of air in motion, which would move other molecules of air, and in turn move more molecules of air that eventually become capable of starting a hurricane on the other side of the planet."
Is this actually true? Science has shown The Butterfly Effect to engage with the FIRST movement of ANY form of matter…..including people.
Ed takes a look at how even simple acts of kindness can make a powerful impact in ways that we didn’t expect and sometimes, we don’t even know.
Ed covers 5 practical tips to embrace The Butterfly Effect in our own lives:
Ed wraps up the show with how The Butterfly Effect teaches us that we are all deeply interconnected, and our actions, no matter how small, have power. And we all have the ability to create a world that’s more compassionate, loving, and kind with just one small gesture at a time.

Ed dives into The Power of Kindness in Today’s Culture. This topic can bother a lot of people, but this is profoundly important, especially in today’s world. In a culture that often feels fast-paced, competitive, and at times, divided, kindness can be a real game-changer. Not only does it impact the person receiving it, but it also transforms the person giving it, too.
Topics he covers:
Ed wraps up the show with kindness as a strength in our lives. It’s not always easy to be kind, especially when life gets tough, but it’s worth it—for our own well-being, for our relationships, and for the world.

I'm writing a memoir book of a deep story about my life that I've never spoken about before.
I've talked a lot about the sexual abuse that happened to me when I was a young boy and how life was wonderful until I was 3 years old when everything changed. I’ve been telling that part of my life often since I started an organization in 2016 called MeTooWhatNow (www.metoowhatnow.com). It helps men and women who suffered childhood trauma get their lives back.
What I've NEVER talked about is the darkness in my life that I had for decades.
When my memoir comes out in 2024, it'll cover the darkness in my life that'll surprise many. The reason why I decided to do this is to help anyone who's experienced the darkness.
More details to come in other podcasts and social media as I write the book and before it finally becomes completed and released.

In this season finale episode, I talk about the steps that took place in my life that caused me to start the Visible Kindness podcast.
Amazingly, the origins come from my experiences as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I candidly share how a nervous breakdown in 2016 caused me to lose my job and ultimately bringing me to starting this podcast.

SHOW NOTES
On this episode, I become the guest, Michael Matucci, a filmmaker, director/ writer, and activist, asks me intimate questions about my life as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and the effects it had on my life decades later.
About Ed Squire
For over 20 years, I was a senior business consultant for Fortune 500 and global companies throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
In 2018, I started a nonprofit called 'MeToo, WhatNow,' advocating for survivors of childhood trauma and abuse. Now I've dedicated my life to helping survivors rebuild their lives from the ground up to reclaim their identity and restore their dignity.
From age 4 until 10, I was sexually abused by four men; my step-grandfather, a next-door neighbor, and my elementary school teacher.
In 2016, I filed a lawsuit against the teaching and the school board that hired him. I'm currently producing a documentary about the experience.
On this episode, Michael asks me the following:

On this episode, I welcome mindfulness coach Katrina Gleisberg and co-creator of the ‘Calm During Chaos’ mindfulness e-Course. Katrina has a background as a special education teacher, and she also led a support group called ‘The Military Club,’ for students raised with a military background.
Living in a military family, Katarina taught special education for 3rd and 4th-grade students in multiple countries. During her travels, she noticed a marked difference in the student’s ability to settle down, focus, and become more productive after a mindfulness practice she learned of, called T.A.P.S. (Total and Perfect Silence).
Katarina says, “Mindfulness can be practiced anywhere, anytime, free of charge for everyone! Anyone can learn a personal, simple, mindfulness practice, without adding extra time into their daily routine.

Welcome to the introductory episode of Visible Kindness.
On this episode I explain:
Connect with Ed Squire:
Welcome to the Visible Kindness podcast.
