Dungeon Crawler Classics or DCC is an RPG modeled after the old school rule sets of the 70's.  There are lots of tables as well as lethal encounters! To help offset player death each player is given control of up to four characters. These characters are given random stats and are only slightly better that the average peasant. The characters are considered level 0 and the ones who survive get the privilege of an actual character class at level 1.

We are totally new to this game so we hope you enjoy this as much as we do!

Special thanks to Ahmed Alabaca (writer/musician) and Francisca Wright (musician) for the lovely music!

In this episode we look at creating character backstories. Each one of us has different methods and considerations when designing our character's histories. We are also experimenting with adding a little music so we'll see how it goes!

Today's host Charlie looks into the implementation of magic items. He asks our panel of Dungeon Masters their preferences when utilizing and distributing these powerful items.

Here are the questions he asks:

  1. When deciding what magic items to give to the party how do you choose the strength or rarity?
  2. Do you try to pick magic items based on who is in the campaign, either character class or something that needs a little more working knowledge of the game to use?
  3. Do you try to give each player magic items simultaneously, or one at a time and let the group decide who gets it?
  4. How do you adjust the challenge of encounters particularly boss battles when you're aware of the items your party is in possession of?
  5. How do you suggest people go about creating their own magic items for campaigns?

Every great role playing game is built around a campaign. This is the interactive story which takes your characters from the beginning to the end of the adventure. Campaigns include within them many smaller stories which act like milestones for a character's progress. These stories are known as sessions and often take place over a single evening of play. These sessions in turn are made of encounters which are interactive events that alter the outcome of the session.

I'm Antonio and these are my fellow Game Masters Aaron and Charlie. Together we'll discuss building an encounter from the ground up.

This is npcr.

Here are the questions we tackle:

1: RPGs are known for there fighting so what technical and thematically considerations go into building a combat?

2: When building an encounter the scenery can play a pivotal role. How have you used the environment to add a new dynamic to the encounter?

3: Not all encounters involve combat. How do you run a non combat encounter?

4: Encounters do not always go as planned. What do you do when role-playing turns to combat unexpectedly?

5: What are some of your favorite settings or locations to describe in full detail? Could you describe it to us?

In this episode we discuss how we build Non-Player Characters and

Implement them in games. Here are the questions we attempt to tackle:

As a Game or Dungeon Master what goes through your mind when creating an NPC?

Do you prefer to create NPCs based on individuals from history, literature and/or build them from scratch?

When creating NPCs which interact with players or are integral to the plot what details do you always find yourself writing?

What influences your decision on whether to voice your NPCs?

So the group you're running a game for enters a tavern located in a suspiciously out of the way place. Could you create for me a suitably at home NPC?

On the Player-Characters Corner we tackle these questions from the listener:

How do you get into character when you have severe anxiety?

What are some tips on coming up with back stories for a character?
