In this episode, we describe how we use the G Suite and explain how the Google apps make life more efficient, connect us, and make our marriage stronger. We’re talking here about Calendar, Photos, Sheets, Docs, and Keep. They’re awesome! And if we’re missing any important ones … let us know.

Today’s topic: Our online dating stories and the strategies we recommend.

Big Idea: Online dating CAN work!

1. Our Dating Stories.

Kristine’s story (including friends’ involvement and month of messaging)

Tim’s story (incl. Must-haves and can’t stands, a few dates but no spark)

2. Our recommendations for the online dating game:

a. Know yourself. Emotional intelligence. Take time to reflect and build self-awareness about your core needs and desires.

b. Write down must-haves and can’t stands and don’t compromise (cannot be too long, based on principles and values)

c. Dating profile: be real, but don’t undersell yourself. False humility helps no one. Be true to your beliefs, values, and ambitions.

d. Take care with your profile pics. Make sure they represent your best self.

e. Be real throughout the process from start to finish. Don’t be fake.

f. Lean on friends for advice and perspective.

g. It’s more than skin deep. Finding the hottest, most muscular/lean

Today’s topic: How a strong marriage incorporates the three Greek loves.

We don’t have this all figured out. But here are some ideas and practices that we believe protect and cultivate a strong relationship.

Big idea: the marriage relationship should include the three types of love described by the Greeks: phileo, eros, and agape.

1. Philia/Phileo/Philos: friendship. (think: Philadelphia)

What does this look like? Date night and mid-week date

Why is this important in our marriage? Emotional bonds, sharing dreams and disappointments, being on the same page, shared values and beliefs, being shoulder to shoulder

2. Eros: passion and desire (think: erotic)

What does this look like? Sex begins in the kitchen, flirting, affectionate messages, making sure we’re connecting regularly

Why is this important in our marriage? Marriages can grow cold without care, plants need water and sunlight

3. Agape: unconditional (think: 1 Corinthians 13)

What does this look like? Quick to forgive, overlooking irritations when possible, serving, supporting

Why is this important in our marriage? Humans have failings, conditional love will always fail

Concluding thoughts

Phileo, Eros, Agape

Take an inventory: how are we doing in each of these three loves?
