In June of 2019, Cody knew something wasn’t right. The pain in his lower back had only grown worse and the lump in his right pelvis had developed into the size of a football. What he didn’t know at the time, was that over the next 12 months he would be going to war with a rare, life threatening form of primary bone cancer called chondroblastic osteosarcoma .
Over the course of his fight, Cody would spend 150 plus days in the hospital; endure a grueling 3 rounds of brutal chemo which would then be followed by an ultra-high-risk surgery to remove the deadly tumor from his pelvis.

Brown Plastic Surgery owner, and author of The Real Beauty Bible, Dr. Richard Brown, joined us on The SKYLER IRVINE Show.
Dr. Brown was born in Georgia and attended school there. Starting as a communications major, he realized his passion for science and changed gears to go to medical school. In this episode, Dr. Brown speaks about the lessons he learned from medical school, including seeing a patient through till the end of their treatment even when you are tired, and it is easy to pass it off to a colleague.
After being given a practice, Dr. Brown decided he wanted to set himself apart from other plastic surgeons and build relationships with those who come in. He wants to be authentic as possible on Instagram so his patients feel a connection with him before they even get to know him. A lot of people and surgeons on social media tend to manipulate photos to their benefit. Celebrities tend to this, and it has an extreme impact on the plastic surgery business. This is something Dr. Brown does not want to do.
On the show, Skyler and Dr. Brown discuss building a medical business and how it differs from other business, being authentic to your “why”, and using social media to expand awareness. Dr. Brown’s book, The Real Beauty Bible, is available on Amazon for purchase.
Show Notes:
What made him decide to become a doctor?
Advice to someone choosing a major
How has technology changed the medical world?
What happens when you stop viewing competition with a scarcity mindset?
How to stand out in a competitive field?
Why write a book??
What are some tips when hiring for your business?
Can anything disrupt the surgery industry?
Does your business need social media if you're already busy?
What are the benefits of putting out a lot of content?
How to get more engagement on your social media post?

Episode 97 of The Skyler Irvine Show with the founders of Made With Love Cody Waltz and Maribeth Sublette. Maribeth and Cody both started and currently run local e-commerce websites with very strong communities on Instagram and Facebook.
This year, they came together to create an event in the physical world which unites other local e-commerce brands to encourage and help each other overcome obstacles and also to raise awareness within the community of all the amazing brands built locally.
Cody and Maribeth are a wealth of knowledge in the e-commerce space, both starting at the bottom with no knowledge other than what they could learn on YouTube and trial and error.
This is my first episode back after a 3 week haitus and I had a ton of fun talking and learning from these very intelligent women. I really hope you find the time to listen to this one and reach out to them if you can.

Host Skyler Irvine is joined today by Owner and Founder of Iconic Arizona, Nick Carmichael. They discuss topics such as building a brand as a side hustle, knowing when to go all in, and what the future of branding and apparel will look like.
In Nick’s own words: “Iconic Arizona was born during our 10 Year Anniversary Tour of Arizona. Each brilliant and memorable location we visited, I searched for a good hat. I continued to be disappointed in the quality and style of the hats even after visiting the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
A life-long hat wearer, I knew I wanted to fill this hole in the market and got to work. As a high-school teacher, and a father of 3, I worked well into the night learning about hats, patches, and sketching out some designs I thought represented Arizona.
I hope to find others who love the beauty of Arizona and hats. Put Iconic Arizona on your brim.”

About Cody Alt: Cody Alt is a serial entrepreneur who has built businesses from the ground up from a meal prep kitchen to a CBD company, and more. In this episode, we talk about Cody's many business ventures, how he became successful, and his many ups and downs of being an entrepreneur. Hometown? Moved here about 8 years ago, small town of about 20 people in Maxville, Montana,. Favorite AZ restaurant, venue, or activity and why? I love Steak 44 because of the amazing food and staff. Enjoy getting outdoors and being active and golfing as much as possible. Who is someone that has had a major impact in the person you are today? My dad has always been someone that i've never wanted to let down due to the fact when I was a kid hes put a boot up my ass a few times so even though I'm 30 thats always a flashback immediately. What is your most memorable mistake you have made in your business or career? By trying to do too many things at once and by myself. There’s nothing wrong with trying to learn new things, master your craft and get better at things and broaden your horizons. However, when you have multiple companies you can move so much further and faster with a group of talented individuals. Hiring out people that are great at that specific task will put your success in a time machine. The biggest obstacle you've overcome: I had my meal prep company and I had gotten a DUI and for 30 days I had to walk or ride Ubers to open my retail locations, to the kitchen to pick up meals, deliver meals, etc. The company was only a year old and Using every bit of cash flow for those 30 days and the next 30 days to make sure that the business stayed afloat was one of the most challenging things mentally and physically I have ever went through. Feeling helpless and alone for the most part I had some employees at the time but the chefs weren't that reliable and I would have to go cook meals all night on no sleep and open then store the next day and pick up meals through rides or Ubers. Someone who inspires you and why? I don't have just one person. But anybody who is obsessed at mastering their craft and getting better day in and day out is who I love being around. Someone who I can listen to and learn things from and make myself a little smarter is what I always keep on the lookout for. Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do? Be careful who you're taking advice from. If you listen to your parents and they’ve never done what you wanna do. Probably not the best people to listen too. You want to listen to someone who's been there, done that if you catch my drift. Show Notes: Cody's journey - starting in the oil business to where he is now. BodyFuel Foods - meal prep kitchen. Getting clients through word-of-mouth. Where BodyFuel Foods is today. Starting a media company. Creating Kushly and PureKana. Cannabis regulations and CBD. Being willing to adapt fast. Advertising/marketing on Instagram. Accomplishing tasks to see progression in your business. Learning from mistakes and doing jobs you don’t want to do. Host Skyler Irvine is joined in the studio today by Mike Arce, CEO & Founder of Loud Rumor, a 7-figure advertising agency specializing in the fitness industry, and host of The GOAT Show Podcast where Mike interviews other entrepreneurs who are the tops in their fields. “If you don’t sacrifice for what you want, then what you want will be the sacrifice." About Mike Arce (Pronounced R-C) Mike is the CEO & Founder of Loud Rumor, a 7 - figure advertising agency specializing in the fitness industry. He credits his success to coaching, mentors, and books. In any career… entrepreneur or not, ad agency or not… if you want more than what you’ve got, then you’ve got to expect many hard days (sometimes in a row for a long time). Most people can’t get to their potential because they give up when it gets too hard. That’s the point where you work harder. Plus, the confidence to breakdown more walls and not give up once you’ve already done it is at an all-time high ------------------------------ Show Notes: ------------------------------ -What were your expectations when you began, and how have they changed over the last 2 years? -Has your interview style or preparation changed or evolved? -Where have you seen the most success in growth, youtube? Facebook? Instagram? Other? -What are you most excited about right now in the digital marketing space. -What APP do you use the most on your phone? -What is a common misconception about you? -What do you feel is the most common mistake businesses make in their digital marketing? -If you can only pick one type of content to share your message with the people who matter, what type of content would you chose? Video? Music? Book? Ebook? Instagram Post? -What is something that you think is insanely undervalued right now? Could be monetarily or attention based. -When it comes to video: how much prep and research do you like to do, or do you prefer to just start creating and figure it out as you go? -When you are hiring your team, how much are you involved, and what do you look for when hiring. Bart Walker plays golf and loves shoes. "The first shoe was built on my kitchen table with my wife's kitchen shears and a handful of old golf shoes I found at second hand stores. I spent endless nights and weekends figuring out how to create one shoe that fit all of my criteria. I was determined to figure it out. After the concept of the interchangeable saddle was proven to work, I set out to make one pair of golf shoes for myself to wear on the course. I found a talented cobbler in a strip mall to help me with the details. I shared my prototype with friends who loved the concept and encouraged me to make more. So, after quitting my banking job, taking out my 401K and with the help of industry professionals, we created the Innovator 1.0. I’m proud of my golf shoe. So proud, I named the company after my two children. And I hope you will be proud to wear them, too." Learn more at JackGraceUSA.com or intagram.com/jackgraceusa

Wendy Hernandez has been a successful family law attorney in Phoenix, AZ for over 20 years. She has a true passion for helping families through hard times and keeps everyone's best interest at heart. As Wendy began to witness more and more heartbreaking results in the courtroom, she was motivated to create an endless stream of online content to share her knowledge with those in need. Wendy started to frequently see people in the courtroom who had good cases but were getting horrible results. They were losing time with their kids and ultimately losing the fight. This was not always in the best interest of the family so she felt compelled to do something to help these people. Her online program called Command the Courtroom teaches people how to build their own custody case. This provides those who may not be able to afford an attorney with the knowledge they need to have a fair fight in the courtroom, at a much lower cost. About a year ago, Wendy began to put one video a week onto YouTube answering the most common questions that she is asked. In that short period of time, Wendy has surpassed over 250,000 views on her videos and has helped countless people have a fair chance in the courtroom. Skyler and Wendy dive into her methods and how it has helped her business thrive.
