Ground forces are one of the most misunderstood topics in the golf world… and today, we’re diving deep.
In this episode of Athletic Motion Golf, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb unpack what ground forces actually do — and more importantly, what they don’t do — for your golf swing.
We talk through:
If you're serious about gaining speed, optimizing rotation, and unlocking the real power in your swing — you need to understand what ground forces can and can’t do for you
Are you rolling your trail foot the wrong way and unknowingly wrecking your swing power and consistency? In this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf podcast, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb break down one of the most common — and most misunderstood — trail foot movements in golf... and why so many instructors are STILL teaching it wrong.
Whether you're a weekend warrior or aiming to swing like a tour pro, understanding the correct trail foot action — especially with the driver — is non-negotiable. Using 3D motion capture and force plate data, Mike and Shaun unpack the difference between old-school heel-dragging and ankle-rolling techniques vs. what today's elite players are doing for explosive, safe speed and clean contact.

What happens when AI takes a swing at golf instruction?
In this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf podcast, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb break down Rory McIlroy’s legendary swing—but with a twist. They asked ChatGPT to do the analysis first.
🤖 From balance and posture to ground force and rotation, the guys dissect what AI got right, where it fell short, and why even the most advanced tools still need human context. If you're a golfer, coach, or just AI-curious, this one’s a must-listen.
👉 Using Gears data and years of elite coaching experience, Mike and Shaun compare ChatGPT’s analysis to real-world swing mechanics—highlighting truths, half-truths, and teaching moments throughout. This episode is part masterclass, part tech review, and all-out fascinating.
📈 Whether you’re interested in AI’s future in golf, how Rory creates power, or you just want expert commentary from two of the best minds in the game… this is for you.
Hit play, and let’s break it all down.
Most golfers hear it as one of their first tips: "Keep your head still." But what if we told you that trying to freeze your head is destroying your swing mechanics?
In this video, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb break down one of golf’s most misunderstood concepts—the illusion of head stillness. Whether you’ve been told you “lifted your head” or you’re battling inconsistent ball striking, chances are this advice is doing more harm than good.
We'll explain the biomechanics of head movement in elite golf swings, why it’s actually impossible to keep your head completely still, and how forcing it leads to poor body mechanics, reverse pivots, and swing compensations.
You’ll learn:
This isn’t your dad’s golf tip—it’s a modern, biomechanical reality check grounded in data, tour-level analysis, and real-world student experience.
If you’ve ever struggled with head position, reverse spine tilt, or staying “down” through the shot, this one’s for you.
🏌️♂️ It’s time to stop fighting your body and start working with it.
Golfers—this podcast is a must-listen if you’ve been told to “get your lead shoulder down” or “point your shoulders at the ball.”
This outdated advice might sound like good mechanics… but in reality? It’s one of the most harmful concepts you can follow—and it’s causing hip sway in your backswing.
Mike Granato and Shaun Webb are pulling no punches in this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast. They’re diving deep into one of the most widespread swing myths that’s wrecking thousands of golf swings across the country. The worst part? It’s still being taught—every single day.
We break down the flawed logic behind the myth, how it confuses pressure and weight, why it leads to sway and instability, and what should be happening instead.
This isn’t just another rant—it’s a data-backed, experience-driven takedown of bad instruction, and a roadmap to actually improving your swing.
Hit play, and stop sabotaging your own game.

If you want to lower your golf scores immediately—this episode is a MUST LISTEN. Shaun Webb and Mike Granato from Athletic Motion Golf reveal the one skill that separates consistent players from frustrated ones... and it’s NOT what most coaches talk about. You’ll learn exactly how to control your ball in the wind, master 3/4 shots, and develop reliable distance control—especially under pressure.
Whether you're an amateur golfer trying to break 90, or a mid-handicapper looking to shoot your personal best, mastering wind strategy and learning how to "throttle" your swing is essential. This episode dives deep into how to build that skill, how to practice it, and what elite players do differently with wedges, irons, and driver in tough conditions.
Plus, you’ll hear how Trackman and other launch monitors can help you map your bag for wind-adjusted yardages—and how this one approach can level up your performance overnight.
If you’re a golfer stuck on the range wondering why your scores don’t drop—even though your swing is improving—this episode is for you. In this podcast, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb break down two insanely overlooked skills that will immediately impact your ability to shoot lower scores: knowing your carry distance and understanding your shot dispersion.
They give you the strategies that go beyond the swing mechanics. These are the “on-course IQ” tools the pros use—but most amateurs ignore. You’ll hear stories from our golf schools, live coaching insights, and what happens when golfers rely too much on the “perfect shot” instead of playing the smart one.
You’ll also learn:
If you want to stop bleeding strokes on the course—and finally understand the game inside the game—don’t miss this one. It’s a low-hanging fruit episode that could save you 3–5 shots immediately without changing your swing.

n this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb break down a question every golfer thinks they’ve figured out — but most are dead wrong about:
👉 Should you be doing block practice or random practice?
The truth? Most amateur golfers are already practicing randomly without knowing it. Grip, stance, ball position — all of it is inconsistent. And yet they’re still trying to “mix it up” even more… but that’s the fastest way to never build a reliable, repeatable golf swing.
Mike and Shaun dive into the real process tour pros use to groove their swing mechanics, and it’s a LOT less sexy than what social media tells you. It’s structured. Repetitive. Precise. It’s block practice with feedback loops, video, alignment sticks, and obsession with repeatability.
They also draw an incredible analogy between special forces rifle training and elite golf practice — where success under pressure comes from training to tight tolerances, so that randomness doesn’t destroy your performance when it counts.
Whether you’re trying to drop your handicap, strike the ball better, or just understand why your feel never becomes real — this episode is a must-listen for any serious golfer.
🎯 Learn why block practice builds your swing, while random practice refines it (only after your swing is built).
If you've ever wondered how the heck to find a legit golf instructor (and not just some YouTube-taught swing whisperer on the driving range), this is the episode for you.
Too many golfers waste years (and thousands of dollars) working with instructors who don’t actually change their swing — they just slap a Band-Aid on the shanks and hope for the best. In this episode, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb break down how to find a real swing coach who understands both the art and the science of instruction — including what to look for, what to avoid, and the types of “teachers” that do more harm than good.
We unpack the difference between resort triage lessons and true swing transformation, the value of coaches who adapt with tech and data (3D motion, force plates, etc.), and how to spot the red flags — like "method teachers" who teach everyone the same cookie-cutter swing, or social media coaches who have never taught in the real world.
You'll walk away with a filter system that makes your search way easier — and ensures you're not jumping teacher to teacher, wasting time and regressing. Because once you find your coach, you commit.
✅ Learn what separates top-tier instructors from the fakes
✅ Why 3D motion, force plates, and experience matter
✅ How swing patterns, mobility, and individuality affect coaching
✅ When to commit and stop jumping from teacher to teacher
✅ How to use YouTube strategically to vet coaches in advance

This might be the most important podcast episode we've recorded for competitive golfers—or any player who wants to finally perform when it matters. We're not talking about biceps or glutes here. The most crucial muscle you can train in golf? Your mental grind muscle.
Yep, it’s a real thing. And in this episode, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb from Athletic Motion Golf break down exactly how the top 1% of golfers can still score—even when they’re swinging like trash.
From behind-the-scenes stories of major champions like Tiger Woods, Scotty Scheffler, and David Toms, to raw insight from lessons and coaching tours, we explain why mental toughness and shotmaking under pressure is what separates the elite from everyone else.
If you've ever given up after a bad front nine, or if your swing goes AWOL mid-round and you spiral—this episode is for you. This one mental muscle might be the only thing holding you back from that next level.

Golfers everywhere are being taught the wrong concept of where impact happens — and it’s destroying swings before they even start. In this video, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb expose the truth that 90% of golf instruction still gets wrong: impact actually happens on the trail side of your body, not the lead side.
If you’ve been grinding on “getting your hands in front of your lead leg,” there’s a high chance you’ve been fighting physics, stalling rotation, and killing your power — all because of a bad address in your mental GPS.
They break down:
Once you understand this, your entire approach to the golf swing changes — and improvement gets a whole lot easier.
If you’ve been frustrated, plateaued, or even gotten worse after “doing what you were told” — this is the lightbulb moment you’ve been waiting for.
📌 Listen to the end for practical drills and checkpoints to retrain your swing the right way.

We’ve seen it all. Players tilting back, decelerating, using the wrong setup and wrecking their scores. Even worse—many don’t even realize this is a different shot than a chip or a flop.
In this podcast, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb from Athletic Motion Golf simplify it. Step-by-step. From setup to strike. From wrist hinge to release. If you’ve struggled with touch, feel, or consistency around the greens, this video will help you finally get it—and stop yipping it when it matters most.

You'll hear how tour pros like Padraig Harrington and Aldrich Potgieter gain speed while maintaining accuracy, why contact-based training is a must, and how our H.I.I.T.S Driver is changing the game with a safer, smarter way to add yards without injury.

Are your hips actually rotating the way elite golfers do?
In this Athletic Motion Golf podcast, Mike Granto & Shuan Webb are diving into one of the most misunderstood and underrated parts of the golf swing—internal and external hip rotation. This isn't just about turning — it's about how your knees and pelvis work together to unlock real rotational power.
Most golfers (even the decent ones) get this wrong. They rotate everything together like a block of wood... and it kills their speed, power, and consistency. We're going to show you why that's a mistake—and how pros like Rory and Ludvig Åberg are doing it differently.
Using years of GEARS data and real swing analysis from thousands of amateurs and pros, we reveal the real reason your hips might be stuck, and how to fix it with just a small shift in how you stretch your pelvis away from your femurs.
This podcast is a must for golfers who want to rotate better, hit it further, and stop sliding all over the place. It's based on biomechanical truth, not Instagram fluff.
Mike & Shaun break down:
Back with Part 2 of our deep dive into the most overrated golf swing concepts—and this time we’re tackling two of the BIGGEST myths we see destroying amateur swings: bowing the wrist at the top and shaft lean obsession at impact.
If you’ve ever tried to "fix" your slice by bowing the wrist like DJ, or you’re chasing perfect shaft lean because you saw it in a slow-mo Tour pro video, this episode is for you. We unpack the real mechanics behind these moves and explain why they often do more harm than good for regular golfers.
You’ll learn:
This isn’t theory—it’s data-backed, lesson-tested, and brutally honest. Drop the “Instagram drills” and find out what really works.
Are you wasting time working on swing tips that don’t matter? In this episode, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb expose the 3 most overrated golf swing concepts that are holding back your game. From early extension to bowed wrists and “handle dragging,” we break down what really matters in the golf swing—and what’s just noise.
Sean and Mike hit the range of bad advice that’s everywhere on Instagram, YouTube, and even from your well-meaning 20-handicap buddy. You’ll learn why “fixing” early extension in your downswing is a fool’s errand, how thrust and tilt get confused, and why most golfers are practicing all wrong.
We pull back the curtain on why pros extend right away, why amateur swings fall apart, and the two things you NEED to fix before trying any Instagram swing hack. This is raw, no-BS insight you won’t get from swing tip reels.
➡️ Whether you're chasing distance, consistency, or just trying to stop topping the ball, this is a must-listen if you're serious about improving your swing.
What separates a good swing from a tour-level one? It’s not just club path or face angle—it’s how the body moves, especially through impact. And no move is more revealing than what the pelvis does around P9 (trail arm parallel in the follow-through).
In this episode, Mike and Shaun from Athletic Motion Golf talk shop from inside the Athletic Motion Golf Club, where top teachers and players share real insights, test theories, and reverse-engineer what the best in the world do. You’ll hear how technology like Gears and force plates helps them see exactly where elite players are—and where most amateurs go wrong.
They break down how anterior/posterior tilt, side bend, trail leg action, and upper body orientation affect what happens at impact and beyond. They also explain why mobility matters more than raw athleticism, how even great athletes can struggle without the right movement patterns, and what most instructors are missing.
It’s not about guessing—it’s about measuring. If you’ve ever wondered why some swings just look tour… this episode shows you the difference.
What if the secret to getting dramatically better at golf… wasn’t about more lessons, but better practice?
In this episode, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb from Athletic Motion Golf dive deep into what might be the best golf training app ever made — the Swing Coach App. From its origin story with tech entrepreneur Briscoe at our golf school, to how it's helping golfers around the world accelerate improvement with real-time, guided feedback… this isn’t just a review — it’s a blueprint for modern golf training.
They unpack why traditional golf lessons are broken, how this app replicates supervised practice, and why “feel” alone is failing so many players. Plus, we share best practices, insider tips, and how to maximize your improvement even when you’re not hitting balls.

In this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb take on one of golf’s most misunderstood instructions: stay down through the swing. While it might sound simple, most golfers are interpreting this cue in ways that hurt their motion, timing, and ball striking.
Mike and Shaun break down what’s actually happening in the swings of great players—from subtle body lift to neck mobility—and why trying to force your head or body to “stay down” often backfires. They explain:
If you've struggled with fat shots, thin shots, or inconsistent chipping, this episode connects the dots on how improper concepts are getting in your way—and gives you the right framework to fix it.
Plus, they share a quick awareness drill that has fixed the short game yips for countless golfers.
In this episode, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb of Athletic Motion Golf unpack one of the most powerful concepts they’ve introduced - The Lazy Susan. It’s not just a kitchen throwback—it’s a game-changing way to understand rotation in the golf swing.
They dive into how most golfers are stuck with the wrong mental model when it comes to separation, rotation, and what actually powers the downswing. From steep hand paths to stalled hips, Mike and Shaun break down the common faults that stem from flawed concepts—and show how thinking of your pelvis as a Lazy Susan can clean up your move and help you rotate like a Tour player.
They cover:
In this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, hosts Mike Granato and Shaun Webb dive into what they believe is the most misunderstood—and most difficult—part of the golf swing: the transition. Specifically, they explore the “middle part” of the swing, the split-second moment between backswing and downswing that separates pros from amateurs.
Most amateur golfers finish their backswing and start everything down at once—hips, arms, and club all move together. In contrast, elite players like Xander Schauffele maintain just enough rotational reserve to create a dynamic, sequenced transition. That stretch and separation allow for more clubhead speed, better face control, and fewer injuries.
Mike and Shaun make the case for thinking of the golf swing as a unified “windup” instead of two distinct motions—backswing and downswing. They share lessons from tour pros, insights from motion capture data, and drills like continuous motion swings to help you feel the right stretch and sequencing in your own game.
Welcome back to the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, where Fact Meets Fairway! In this final installment of our Top 10 Most Common Swing Mistakes, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb tackle a major issue that sneaks into so many amateur swings—elbow lagging.
Many golfers mistakenly believe that holding their trail arm bend deep into the downswing will create more lag and power. However, this move actually disrupts sequencing, steepens the downswing, and robs players of effortless speed. Mike and Shaun break down the true mechanics of right arm movement, why tour pros actually straighten their trail arm as they transition, and how misconceptions about "holding lag" lead to major swing faults.
You’ll also hear insights from some of the world’s top coaches, including Scott Hamilton, and why understanding how the trail arm moves correctly can instantly improve your ball striking.

Welcome back to the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, where Fact Meets Fairway! In this episode, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb continue their deep dive into the 10 most common swing mistakes of 2024, and today’s topic is one that wrecks consistency—getting the club laid off at the top of the backswing.
Many golfers unknowingly push their club into a laid-off position, leading to steep transitions, weak ball flights, and major compensations on the downswing. Mike and Shaun break down the most common causes—including shut clubfaces, overactive wrist movements, and the dreaded “elbow pinning” technique—and explain why it makes ball-striking harder, not easier.
You’ll also hear why Xander Schauffele’s swing transformation proves how fixing a laid-off backswing can take your game to the next level.

In today’s podcast, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb of Athletic Motion Golf discuss how to deal with the frustrations around working on your golf swing.
Anchoring your expectations is the first step into determining your reality.
You want to get better, that's clear.
But frustration and being stuck on the hamster wheel is keeping you from getting better. The studying, the work on the range, and the lessons and schools you go to are there to get you BETTER, but don't confuse BETTER for perfect, and don't assume perfect is coming. You'll never be perfect, and that's ok.
Embrace the fact that golf is a PROGRESSION, and a continued path to improving. It's you against yourself, and we're here to help you.
Don't be so hard on yourself, and understand golf for what it is, a progression that you measure in months, and not moments or days.
You'll have bad days, and that's OKAY, but know a single bad day, or even a string of bad days won't determine the success of your game, but how you handle frustration when you are in a rut definitely will.

There is plenty of proven and legit golf instruction online, and we're not just saying AMG.
We urge you to find golf instruction and golf content sources that you trust and believe in.

Mike and Shaun get to see how golfers practice every day.
After a while, you start to see patterns emerge. But not all patterns are good patterns, as you know. In today's episode of Athletic Motion Golf, the podcast we discuss the most common practice habits we see on a daily basis that are actually doing golfers more HARM than good. 🙅♂️
In lessons, we’ll often have the golfer take their address position, then we’ll ask them to move straight to what they feel is a good impact position. The variations and ideas we see about what impact should be is enough to fill a book. It’s hard to arrive at impact if you don’t have a clear idea or feel of what a good impact should be.
This episode is all about helping you develop that feel.
We're BACK! In today's episode of the Athletic Motion Golf podcast- we're discussing practice moves that can take strokes off your score...
These moves should be at the top of YOUR list for things to work on during your next (and all future) practice sessions!
You'll discover the 5 basic but BEST moves that will help you do just that. Start to incorporate these moves, and you’ll start to shed serious strokes off your score… and fast!
The Golf World has been obsessed with this concept of adding "Depth" in the swing lately...
...it's a thought that is causing a PLAGUE of poor swing movements in the majority of golfers that are chasing more depth.
Not to mention, the loss in distance and consistency that players are experiencing as a result!
This ONE IDEA you'll discover in this episode can totally transform your golf swing.
Join the discussion with Mike and I as we break down WHY players aren't getting the results they want and discover the RIGHT way to add depth in your swing.
How do you define a successful shot?
On the green? Hitting the middle of the fairway? Inside 15 feet from 200 yards out?
Although it's a little different for everyone, ONE THING is the same for almost EVERY golfer we teach...
...Most players are torturing themselves with unrealistic expectations.
The good news is: your relationship with golf doesn't have to be that way anymore!
Join us in this episode as we discover the RIGHT expectation levels for shot outcomes, and how 1 change in YOUR mindset will uncover a whole different side to golf you've never experienced before.
Let's face it: Great BALL STRIKING is one of the pillars of a great golf game.
If you're unable to consistently meet the ball with the center of your club face:
Your accuracy, distance, and scorecard will suffer...
...who wants that?
Join us in this episode to discover the #1 determining factor when it comes to how well you strike the ball!
You'll unlock the ability of diagnosing where you’re hitting the ball on the face and why a small change can produce MASSIVE results.
As much as we'd like for swing changes to be quick and easy....I think we've all experienced that even the smallest of changes can be challenging!
Making changes can seem like you're playing "Whack-a-Mole" with your swing...once you bury one problem another one can pop up 🙄
Once you make a swing change how do you make it permanent?
We get this question all the time and it’s a great one.
In this episode we take a deep dive into this topic to help you understand what to expect when trying to OWN your swing changes.
Have you ever had days where you MASH your driver but struggle to land your next shot on the dance floor?
Or What about the inverse, where you are RIPPING your irons 🎯 but struggling to get off the tee?
In this episode we discuss a timeless question...Is there a difference between the iron swing and my driver swing?
We look at the set-up, release point changes, and concepts to help you get the best out of both your irons and your driver unlocking those low scores you're capable of!
How many swing thoughts are running through your mind during the ONE second it takes to swing a golf club? 🧐
Our guess is... probably too many!
It’s a tough balance to work on your swing WHILE playing golf on the course.
As much as we would like to execute everything we need to on the course, we often end up self-destructing our progress by trying to tackle ALL of our challenges, all of the time.
Progressing through any swing issues you have needs to be done brick-by-brick! 🧱
In this episode we look at how the best players in the world do this, and how you can incorporate it into your training program.
It's no secret...
At AMG we love using technology to help golfers improve their game.
We use it to accurately measure what's going on in the golf swing... getting to the ROOT issues and not relying on just our eyes or ears...
But, just like anything - too much of it can be detrimental to your game.
When technology becomes a toy instead of a tool, it's easy to lose sight of what we're actually chasing which is LOWER scores.
In this episode we discuss “chasing numbers” and a variety of other issues that can arise when golfers attempt to use tech on their own.
Do you enjoy hitting those high, scoopy or flippy shots that KILL your distance and compression?
When your dominant side (right arm for right-handed golfers) starts to "take over" the swing, this can lead players to the extreme of trying to get rid of it completely!
Erasing one arm out of your swing isn't the solution...
In this episode we look at how we should be training the right arm to work correctly to develop lag in your swing and deliver the club the RIGHT way at impact.
In this Episode of Athletic Motion Golf: the podcast, we look at the position of the upper body and neck/head at address and how it can derail your entire golf swing. We even look at the tilt of the head at address and how it can create pivot issues.
What does it mean to get to your left side?
Mastering the art of shifting your weight throughout the swing can be the difference between hitting fat, inconsistent shots and pinching the ball perfectly.
Contrary to what you may have heard before, not all weight transfers are created equal.
The “when” of the weight shift is VITAL to unlocking pure, consistent ball striking from tee to green.
Join us in this important episode we dive into WHY it’s so important to understand the timing of your movements and look at the right and WRONG ways to shift your weight.
You could have a great take-away, move into a solid position at the top of your swing, and come down to a "trophy pose" finish, but if you're starting your swing from the wrong place, you're going to derail the entire thing.
Some of us make subtle movements in our swings to get us back to the right checkpoints and don't even realize how much we're hurting our performance in the process.
What are the most common mistakes we see from players when they set up to the ball?
Join us in this episode as we discuss the major flaws in your address that make it impossible to hit the ball correctly and how to save yourself from costly swing compensations.
Have you ever doubted the success that online golf lessons could possibly have?
Golf is a very technical sport that requires lots of feedback from your instructor, so they should ALL be in person right?

If you have ever considered getting help online but had your doubts on the experience, this episode will be an eye-opener.
