God's people constantly violated his covenant. Yet God's people are his master creation. Is it possible for God to walk away from his people, his creation? What has God invested in them and what is his heart as they suffer the consequences of their rebellion? In Isaiah, God summons the nations to court to ask them how justice can be brought to the world. After showing the complete futility of the powers of the world to do so, God shows that he alone can do this. But how will he do it? His answer is to present something totally opposite of the world's spirit, a nondescript unnamed servant who will never draw attention to himself. This is the foundation of the nature of the kingdom of heaven, and this will establish righteousness throughout the world.
God is not just merciful, but his mercies are 'tender'. What does this mean? God is not some far removed, stoic, and unfeeling being, but the scripture reveals God as our heavenly Father who is deeply and profoundly moved in his emotions towards us. This reality should move us to love him more than ever, and give us great hope for revival.
The Old Testament story of Israel was still incomplete by the end of the Old Testament. The mission of Jesus is to bring that story to its rightful conclusion. To do so, he must step into the role of Israel and fulfill the responsibility of sonship. What does it mean to be called the 'Son' and what does that mean for the gospel?
What is God like? What is his heart, nature and disposition? Just before going giving himself to the cross, Jesus was asked if some Greeks could see him. Jesus gives a response as to what it means to truly see him, and through him to see the glory of God. Is God into titles or towels?
What did Jesus mean that if his enemies destroyed the temple of his body, he would raise it in three days? To grasp the fullness of what he meant, one needs to understand the history of the temple, and the expectation of the Jewish mind concerning the return of the Spirit, presence and glory of God to the temple once again! How is the coming of Jesus the fulfillment of the hope of nation?
What was the mission of Jesus? How did he accomplish is goals? How do we properly read the gospels. The story of Old Testament Israel was not fulfilled by the end of the Old Testament! Jesus first came to Israel and assumed their God-given mandate to be a witness to the nations. Once the gospels are read from this perspective, a much fuller grasp of their contents will rise.
Many verses from the prophet Isaiah are familiar around Christmas time. These verse take on more meaning when we understand the circumstances in which they were originally spoken. God created the heart with the capacity for great beauty, but sin has marred it. How can the heart be cleansed from all that defiles it? True worship is costly. There are many lessons to be gleaned from the golden altar of incense that stood before the veil that led to the Holy of Holies. Yet this is the path to revival that will see the fire fall from heaven in our day. What is the nature and price of this worship?
The Bible does not promise deliverance from ever being tested, but it does promise inexplicable joy when it happens. Jesus said the world would hate his disciples. Giving the right response serves the purpose of exhibiting the grace of God before an unbelieving but observing world. Through this means, God ploughs open the hearts of those who are resisting. What distinguished God's people from the rest of the world? Is it not that His presence is among them? Follow this theme through the whole scripture, from the Garden of Eden to the tabernacle of Moses and Solomon's temple. But why hadn't the glory come to the rebuilt temple after the exile? When would it be manifest? Be blessed as you hunger for his presence both in your life and in the corporate expression of the people of God.
What will our new resurrection body be like when Jesus appears? In what ways is it the same as the body we have now? In what ways is it different? Salvation is not complete until death has been overturned at our resurrection!
How does the scripture describe eternity? The idea that the believer inherits that which is incorruptible sustained them when they suffered loss in this present world due to persecution. What are the Last Days? When did they begin and when will they end? The two comings of the Lord are not separate independent events, but the inauguration and consummation of one event. Just as an engagement leads to a wedding, the first coming leads up to the second appearing. With the gift of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the end has begun. Now the Holy Spirit leads us to the end until that final and glorious appearing of Christ!
The God we serve is a God of hope. For the believer, hope is not wishful thinking. Biblical hope 'saves' us and sustains us during the testing of our faith. Hope makes us fully alive and fully energetic as we wait for the fulfillment of God's promises. Let hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing!
Jesus sent out his disciples to evangelize the whole world, but told them to tarry prior to going. The task he gave them was beyond any of their abilities. It would take a power far above and beyond anything they were capable of. The Holy Spirit is the key ingredient to outreach. For successful ministry, we need to be fully inundated with the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the key to taking the message of the kingdom of heaven to a hopelessly lost and dying world.
Once we repent and confess our sins to the Lord, what does he do with them? How does God regard them? Once we realize the depth to which God has put them away, how can we not praise him? We are exhorted to enjoy the fullness of the joy of being forgiven!
Why does God forgive us? How does this benefit the believer? It is powerful to know that through forgiveness, guilt is removed, we are delivered from being ruled by our past, we are made blameless, and God is glorified. Being forgiven is a powerful reality to experience! There is nothing in the world like it!
Who is it that sends us out on mission? Is it a distant and remote God or our heavenly Father? As we know God as a benevolent, merciful, kind and compassionate father, we are free to go out to those who are lost. Jesus knew that it was his Father that sent him, and it is the Father that also sends his disciples.
What does redemption look like? The scriptures give several illustrations that allow us to see the marvels of what Christ has done. Let's allow ourselves to be amazed at God's goodness!
Paul the apostle continued to keep pressing to know Christ further. What fuelled his intense desire, and caused him to turn his back on everything with which he was familiar? Let us hear the heart of this apostle so that our hearts may yearn to fully pursue the knowledge of Christ as well.
The short Book of Ruth is rich in many truths. God brings great good out of seeming darkness. God is the God of reversal. When God doesn't seem to be present, he is working in the background. But most of all, God is gracious beyond our comprehension. See how all these themes come together in the beautiful narrative found in the short Book of Ruth.
God is a forgiving God. Is there a part for man to play in order to receive God's gracious forgiveness? What is repentance and why is it important? Even when man can't bring himself around to repent of his own choice, God still gives repentance as a gift. How does God motivate us to do this?
Redemption is free for us, but it cost God more than we can ever imagine. What did it cost God to be true to his nature of forgiveness? It is beyond human comprehension, and we can only grow on awe and wonder at such a gracious God.
What is the greatest need of the human heart? Is it to be loved? To be accepted? Or to be forgiven? God's nature is to forgive. That is good news for humans whose hearts are perverse and twisted. But there is an answer that God has provided. Let's look at the heart that needs to experience divine forgiveness.
What an incredible joy it is to be forgiven! After all that David had done, how he had betrayed the goodness of God, committed adultery and murder, for which he should have been executed, David discovers that to be true before God is to experience the mercy and forgiveness of God! After Mary had a visitation from the angel Gabriel, she went with haste to visit her aged cousin Elizabeth. The result of this encounter with the mother of John the Baptist was that Mary burst forth in a prophetic song that fills out much of what Gabriel had told her, and would also combine with the prophetic song of Zacharias. These prophetic utterances inform us about the ultimate meaning of why God sent His Son into the world at a time we call Christmas!
When God initiated the events that make up the Christmas story, he began with an angelic visitation with an elderly priest named Zacharias. When his miracle son, John the Baptist, was born, his tongue was loosed and he breaks forth in prophetic song. This prophetic song gives God's perspective of what He is doing as the wonders of the Christmas story unfold from the birth of Christ, and gives meaning and perspective right through to the end of Luke's gospel. God has come to visit! What does that mean and how should we respond?
Everyone loves miracles. Great crowds will gather to witness and receive demonstrations of the power of God. But do we realize the cost of obtaining and then maintaining such a kingdom ministry. Jesus set the pattern for kingdom ministry, and he showed us how it is maintained. Let us follow his example/
God will test his servants to see if they are trustworthy. The harvest is precious to God. To whom can he entrust such a noble work, which is both glorious in its outworking, but fraught with difficulties. God oohs for people he can trust.
Every worker desires the full blessing of God. Are there conditions that we must meet if we desire the full backing of God in the work he has called us to do? If so, what are they? Let us hear the voice of scripture on this all important question!
Every morning a miracle happens! The darkness gives up to the coming day! God's day always begins in the evening, not at sunrise. So when things go dark, is the devil winning, or is God initiating a new day with new beginnings? Let us also offer our sacrifices at the 'ninth hour' to him who explodes into our lives with his victory!
Jesus has brought the kingdom of heaven. This change reshapes our understanding of prayer. Now that the promises are in the process of fulfillment, how did Jesus teach his disciples to pray? This study looks at "The Lord's Prayer" in the context of his message of the kingdom.

After the exodus, the miraculous deliverance from slavery in Egypt, God immediately leads his people through the wilderness. Why does He do this? God is preparing to reveal Himself to the world through His people, who must receive His laws to retransform them. But first the heart must be tested so that its inner workings are brought to the surface. Through this means, God prepares His people to receive His law so that they may be transformed into His image for all the world to see!
What is the proper response to grace? How should we then live? Having seen the enormity of God's grace towards us, to what do we dedicate our lives? The Christian life is not one of 'laws' or 'moral platitudes' but is instead a gracious response of gratitude that flows out of a changed heart.
Hebrews 11 is written to encourage weary believers to continue while under pressure. Drawing largely from the histories of Abraham and Moses, the author reminds us that this world is not our home, and that we should expect opposition from this world. But faith looks both to the future when God fully fulfilled his promises, and also looks to God himself who supplies power and strength to endure through the opposition. With powerful skill, the author weaves lessons that inspire the believer to keep true to the call of God!
Jesus said that John was the greatest man born of a woman. Yet he experienced discouragement when he was in the dungeons of Herod. Had he spent his life in vain? Had he dedicated himself to a wrong cause? Listen how Jesus answers his deep query.
After a powerful victory on Mt. Carmel, Elijah fell into a deep depression. God had not come through as he expected. What lessons did Elijah need to learn on Mt. Horeb? Once we understand what our Great High Priest has and is doing for us, we must give diligent response. It is impossible to be unaffected, but the believer must make every effort to press into the provision our Great High Priest has secured for us!
What did Jesus do on the Cross? The Old Testament gives a vivid object lesson in Leviticus 16, as the only day in the year that High Priest entered the Holy of Holies. What Jesus accomplished is so much more than the object lesson could portray. Be motivated to worship as we hear the remarkable work accomplished by Jesus on that day he went to the cross.
Have we settled? Do we allow the test of time to make us comfortable where we are, or are we pressing for greater fulfillment of the promises of God? This message revisits the story of 2 Kings 2. We have seen too much of the power of God that we can never settle but we must continue our pilgrimage to more closely embrace the will of God for our lives and church.
Hebrews 9:24-28 mention three times that Christ appears: his sacrifice upon the cross, in the very presence of God in heaven and his return. Christ now appears before the face of God for us, insuring that all we need for victory is supplied. His future is intertwined with us as he prepares us to receive his inheritance with him! What a privilege is ours. Let us come to the throne of grace boldly!
Faith must be expressed by love. God has given us the basic building block: faith. Now the believer must give the appropriate diligent response. What must the believer 'add' to that faith so that it is expressed in love to all people?
What is the role of the church in its mission to the world? What job description has given it? Often the church attempts to do what only the Holy Spirit can do, and even attempts to take on the role of angels battling in the heavenlies! Yet the church is not called to do either. It is called to love unconditionally. Listen to this powerful testimony of how love transformed a most unlikely group of people in a mental institution. Be ready to be challenged to be a candidate through whom the love of God may flow.
The Feast of Dedication is the background to the famous allegory of Jesus concerning the Good Shepherd In John 10. What is this feast, and how does Jesus use it to explain his mission? And who are the thieves and robbers who come to kill, steal and destroy? There is much to learn from the lips of Jesus!
Faith comes by hearing. After God has done his part, what is the believer responsible for? While the believer cannot create faith, he must give the proper response after he has heard God speak. God has supplied faith as the basic building block. Now man must 'add' to that faith.
How does a believer go from true faith to getting sidetracked? The goal is true biblical faith is always godly living. Whenever the believer has a different end focus, a straying is already set in motion. Paul's first letter to Timothy deals much with this concern.
Faith that does not give north to love is an imitation. True biblical faith always gives birth to love and produces hope. Our response should always be trust and obedience. Therefore we need to foster fellowship with the living and talking God!
When is faith real, and when is it faked? Faith cannot be manufactured by man. It can only be received and then released. Man's part is to hear the voice of the living God. When God speaks, faith is imparted. Let us learn to listen!
Do we view challenges and setbacks in life from our earthly point of view, or do we see them from God's point of view? Are they setbacks, or is God setting up our future? In this message, we are invited to view our pilgrimage here on earth from the perspective of sitting with Christ in heavenly places. We don't see the whole picture, but God does!
Stephen was the most promising upcoming leader the church had. Yet his life was snuffed out. Because of his death, the most fierce persecution was unleashed against the early church. The mighty pentecostal revival that had swept thousands and thousands into the kingdom was bright to an abrupt halt. Did the devil win? Was this a tragedy or a triumph? How can God make this work for good?
Habakkuk begins with a complaint to God. He is in a crisis of faith. But the answer God gives only adds to his bewilderment. But then God graciously allows Habakkuk to see from the divine perspective. This does something to the prophet's soul. He changes from a dirge to a dance, from defeat to victory. 'Shigionoth' has been put into his soul!
Is. 40 is meant as comfort to those who were losing hope and the strength to continue. In this chapter, God's willingness to intervene and hos ability are both beautifully described. The climax of this great chapter is that those who have learned to 'wait' on the Lord will discover his great strength being infused into their very souls, exchanging our weakness for his ability!
After Isaiah finishes his appeal in Chapter 64, God gives his answer in chapter 65. As you will hear, God's answer is quite surprising and shocking! This study will give you a guideline to meditate on Is. 65:1-16 as God reveals what his heart is after in true revival!
What made the teaching of Jesus different than that of the Pharisees? When it came to interpreting the laws of Moses, they had different starting points, which ended up with vast differences of application and meaning. This study gives ten tests that fall into three categories: the character and conduct of the speaker, the content of the prophetic word, and its effect upon the hearer.
