At the FIH Hockey Womens Junior World Cup in Potchefstroom, Millie Giglio led her English side to a bronze medal finish, their first ever medal at a Junior World Cup. South Africa will compete in the inaugural FIH Hockey5s Senior Event in Lausanne in June this year. The team has been announced and we grabbed three of the players to see how excited they are. The former Varsity Cup star opens up about how fate set him on course to becoming a professional footballer and how adversity off the field inspired TTM to Nedbank Cup glory.
He also voices his confidence at a recall to the Bafana Bafana set up following Hugo Broos' appointment while the duo also unpack how Mnyamane has capitalized on his on-field success.
Mnyamane, who has become one of the most marketable footballers in the DStv Premiership, hosts his own podcast (The Victory Corner) and runs a YouTube channel with his wife Tamlyn (The Mnyamanes).
Justin Reid-Ross has hung up his stick following the culmination of the season with THC Hurley in the Hoofdklasse. After more than a decade in the Netherlands, the all-time highest scoring foreigner calls it a day with 186 goals to his name, the last coming in a come-from-behind victory on Sunday.

Lindsey Wright (née Carlisle) had a glittering career playing hockey for South Africa. Having made her debut for Zimbabwe, Lindsey switched allegiance and became a South African hero with 209 caps, which included playing at the Sydney and Athens Olympic Games.
It was a career packed highlights - even before she started coaching.
As a coach Lindsey won the IPT with Northern Blues and repeated the feat a few years later. She also captured a PHL title, played a starring role in leading the SA U21 side to the Junior World Cup and also assisted the national team. Wright's reputation was such that she was soon approached to coach in Australia.
In this thrilling interview Lindsey chats to the Hockey the Podcast boys about all things hockey, coming from an international sporting family, being married to a hockey man and the disappointment at not being the national coach of SA.

Bruce Jacobs is nothing short of a legend in South African Hockey. The country's former Olympic captain took on the Hockey the Podcast hotseat to chat about a wonderful career which included playing stints in England, Australia and the Netherlands.
Bruce also spoke to Jabu and Derek about his love for Central Hockey Club, the importance of PSi in the development of the modern game and of course his family's love of hockey!
Matt Proudfoot was the mastermind behind a powerhouse Springbok pack which went on to help win the 2019 World Cup for South Africa. Soon after, he was approached by Eddie Jones to take over as England's forwards coach. Matt caught up with Derek Alberts to discuss the move, the brilliance of Jones and his own playing career for the likes of Scotland and the Bulls.

There is no question that Pietie is to hockey what Jordan is to basketball, and Federer is to tennis. The world record holder in the women's game scored 282 goals in 287 test matches for South Africa in a career that spanned Olympic Games, World Cups and so much more. Speaking from her home in the USA, Pietie took us through her incredible journey.

Jonty Robinson has represented South Africa over 100 times on the outfield turf including at the 2012 London Olympics. The Glenwood director of Hockey took his place in the hot seat, from his parents' farm in Howick, to chat all things hockey with Derek and Jabu.
He talks about the crazy experience of making his international indoor hockey debut almost a decade after his first appearance for the outdoor side, the pleasure of playing alongside his brother, and of course the feeling of commentating on a game with Jabu.

Peter Wright became the third South African male umpire to earn 100 International caps, earning the coveted golden whistle in the process. SA's top umpire spoke to Hockey the Podcast about his journey to the top, the postponement of the Olympic Games and his relationship with brother John Wright.

Kim Hubach has done it all for South African Hockey. Having played more than 100 times for the national team, including at two FIH Hockey World Cups, the Northern Blues faithful continues to live for the game with the Hubach Hockey Academy now in full swing.
At the 2019 Senior IPT Kim was honoured by her province for playing in her 20th consecutive IPT tournament that was crowned with victory in the final against their Southern Gauteng neighbours.

In 2019 Nic Spooner become a household name in South African Hockey. He scored the match-winning goal against the USA in the FIH Series Finals, a game that essentially qualified South Africa for the Tokyo Olympics. He did it with just 23 seconds left on the clock.
