Three cool guys who aren't afraid to don the Starfleet red shirt uniform and go where no one has gone before!
The crew of the USS Internet was delayed in delivering this latest podcast to the Federation colonies and the fault lies at the feet of the captain! Yes, I've been forced to undergo a career change that called for four intensive weeks of training and field work, which took up much of my time. But I'm back in the center chair, delivering this program which was recorded nearly a month ago and it is one of our best! We're visited by special guests Dan Deevey of GaaaysInSpaaace and Ben Ragunton of Two Gay Geeks, along with Red Shirts alum Davette See to discuss The Outcast, another TNG episode that doesn't really go all the way (see our review of The Host)! The message in this episode is about as subtle as a hammer on a nail...but is it effective? Or does it take the easy way out? Join us in a trenchant discussion of The Outcast!

Welcome to part 2 of our SJW trilogy! I say that tongue firmly in cheek: last episode, we reviewed The Host and and the potentially homophobic overtones in the controversial final scene. THIS WEEK, I uncover a LOST EPISODE of The Red Shirts, which we recorded in March 2019, coincidentally with guest host Davette See, formerly of Black Girl Nerd. Well, Davette makes another appearance in this archival episode where we review the TNG episode Lessons. I make a case that this is NOT Capt. Picard's finest moment in dealing with the romance he shares with Lt. Nella Daren. And I let my frustrated inner attorney free! This is a CAN'T MISS!

It's a Red Shirts social justice warrior two-for-one and we welcome former Black Girl Nerd writer and current contributor to Fandango and Star Trek.com sa well as CEO of Running Ladies Studios!
In part 1, we review the TNG episode The Host, the one where Trek DOESN'T boldly go where no one has gone before, at least in 1991! We discuss the nature of attraction, how Dr. Beverly Crusher handles her conundrum, we also unpack whether or not a violation of Riker takes place in this episode! And we debate the CONTROVERSIAL FINAL SCENE. Yes, we go THERE! Qstorm and Big Sexy spar over Gates McFadden's acting prowess!

WE ARE BACK! Our six month hiatus is finally over and we're back on the bridge of the U.S.S. Internet NCC-1958! We had to pull the starship out of mothballs to take on our latest mission: reviewing the new CBS All Access Trek series, Star Trek Picard! Qstorm, Craig J., Big Sexy, the whole crew is back with our thoughts on this latest Star Trek series!

We've been 'round the moons of Nibia and 'round the Antares Maelstrom and 'round perdition's flames but WE'RE BACK! We're back just in time to give our perspectives on ALL the new Star Trek stuff that came out of San Diego Comic-Con. Is it overkill? Are they milking the Trek IP? Is CBS All Access interested in putting out quality material to raise Trek's status or are they interested in just making money for their streaming platform at the expense of Star Trek? What the hell is this Lower Decks? We unpack all this from just about every angle, and provide our theories and opinions!

No excuses for the delay this week, seeing as the finale airs tomorrow, but you can still check out my review of Such Sweet Sorrow! Hey, everyone, I'm giving you back to back episodes just cuz I can! Last Sunday, I called in to the Afronerd Radio program to get into some Star Trek Discovery with hosts DBurt a.k.a. the Afronerd and his companion in white collar crime, Captain Kirk! We basically let it all out, how we feel about this second season of Discovery! NO HOLDS BARRED!
The program is hosted on Blogtalk Radio, which requires callers to literally call in on phones, so apologies for the audio quality.
Tune in to Afronerd Radio Wednesday at 7:00 pm and Saturday at 6:00 pm! Also on iTunes: https://apple.co/2CRtOZV

When it comes to hoping that this series will eventually get on track, resistance is futile. Shout out to Leland, head honcho of Section 31, the most public covert operation ever. Despite being shot up with novocaine, which I hope to acquire as I watch the remaining episodes this season, I provide my review of last Thursday's episode.

In this episode review, I go on a half-hour rant because this is the episode that just broke the camel's back for me. Everything that's wrong with Star Trek Discovery, at least this season, is on display in this episode: plotholes, bad characterization (spoiler: this ain't your grandfather's Spock, hell, it ain't MY Spock), tragedies that don't resonate at all...but I won't say anymore. Check out the review. WARNING: I don't hold back so make sure to check your emotions at the door. If only someone had given Spock that advice.

This broadcast is doing double duty as both a new Red Shirts episode and a weekly review of the latest episode of Star Trek Discovery! Why? Cuz our mild-mannered Craig J., who is usually very diplomatic about Discovery, went straight gangsta over this episode! He wasn't too happy, so despite the fact that I typically review these episodes solo and on camera (we didn't have time to set up a video podcast), we had to convene a special session of the Federation council and hash it all out! We also express a bit of fear about the upcoming Picard series. For better or worse, here's our review!
Here is the Red Shirts equivalent of "the lost episode," namely, the episode I forgot to publish way back in July 2018! Big Sexy and I continue our discussion of the game-changing Trek episode. We opine on whether DS9 was more deserving of the big screen treatment than TNG, and the addition of Ezri Dax later in the series, among other topics, and Captain Qstorm ponders the Shakesperean theatrical acting style of the one and only Avery Brooks! Enjoy this lost episode from the archives that is finally seeing the light of day!

This is a rebroadcast from July 2018 where Big Sexy and I discuss the Star Trek series Deep Space Nine. Why post a previously aired show? Well, I did it once before simply because of scheduling conflicts leading to an inability to record a new show in a timely manner. But not this time! What happened was (or: whuh hah happen wuz) that after posting this first part of a two-part episode, we got into the advent of Star Trek Discovery which became our focus...so much so that I forgot to post the second part! So here, once again, is part 1 of I Survived The Dominion War! Followed by part 2!

The U.S.S Internet NCC-1958 made a wrong turn and ended up in the Badlands (you're relieved of duty, Big Sexy! Craig, take the helm!) Actually, I dropped those two off at an uncharted planet, but made it back to the Alpha quadrant SOLO with the help of the AFRONERD RADIO SHOW on Blogtalk Radio with DBurt the Afronerd, Captain (Jay) Kirk, aka Cap, and the uncanny Daryll B. who has appeared on our show! Well, actually, Craig and Big Sexy got dropped off I called in to their Midweek In Review show which airs every Wed. from 7:00 to 9:00, to chime in one of their topics: the cancellation of Star Trek 4! Which led to speculation that the new Picard series might be set in the Kelvin universe (although producers say otherwise), and the piece de resistance: we battle over STAR WARS vs. STAR TREK! Prepare yourself for a discussion that blows the geek meters OFF the scale!

The mission takes a bizarre turn as we sully our reputations as Trek fans to determine whether or not Harry Mudd appeared in the TOS episode Trouble With Tribbles! Somehow, 80s comedian Sinbad becomes a topic of discussion, and we wind down the away mission with Q providing a healthy dose of Orville haterade! It's a full show, folks!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Bonus points if anyone knows the corresponding stardate for 2019.
No excuses for tardiness this time, people. This Star Trek Short Trek was released in early December but the holidays fell upon us, the eggnog doth flow, mistakes were made...plus, I've been confined to quarters as a result of my reaction to this latest Short Trek. Yes, Craig J. is in the center seat this episode, as I break down why this latest DSC endeavor eschews the basic tenets of Starfleet and the Federation! Then, we discuss and debate one of many online articles that lists Next Generation characters that should appear on the new Picard series. Finally, we briefly discuss the arrival of Discovery on Blu-ray!

Sorry for the delay, folks, but the Christmas season crept up on us, as a matter of fact, we're down one crew member on this away mission (Craig J. most likely abandoned ship to finish his shopping), but Big Sexy and your captain Qstorm, are up for the challenge. We break down the latest trailer for the upcoming season of Discovery, but first, we discuss an...ample topic...regarding a photo of the lovely Deanna Troi herself, Ms. Marina Sirtis with co-star Patrick Stewart. Q wants to know if it's live or Memorex (Big Sexy speaks on another Pinterest photo of Troi which has been making the rounds for years, which you'll have to google for yourself, I run a clean ship here)! Then we do a real time review of the trailer and give our opinions on Tilly's black goo, Pike in command, the Red Angel, what seems to be the changing perspective from Burnham as the lead to a more ensemble season, and then we address the Targ in the room..unshaven Spock!

Back in 2001, I sat down to watch Enterprise and after maybe three episodes, I decided it was just a big turkey, so it seemed appropriate to release our Red Shirts review of this series on Thanksgiving! Now, I don't want any Enterprise fans to beat the stuffing out of me, but that was my honest opinion back then! But I, your Red Shirts captain, decided to give it another try, sat down and watched every episode from "Broken Bow" to "These Are The Voyages" on Netflix. What motivated me to give this series a second chance? I discuss this with my fellow Red Shirts as well as give our review of an episode that marked a turning point for me: Fallen Hero. The crew of the U.S.S. Internet is finally reunited for some high level discourse on Star Trek Discovery! A new trailer for Season 2 and the first of four 15 minute shorts are the focus of our discussion on this mission. Q provided a solo review which you can see here on YouTube: https://goo.gl/SSAKDP but now Craig J. is on deck to give his report! Then Big Sexy joins in as we review the new trailer that dropped from Comic-con this past weekend. All three of us scan this thing with our tricorders, break it down to its subatomic particles and give our takes on what looks to be another action-packed season. Apologies for the delay but we are decidedly back with a blockbuster episode featuring Robb Gallo and Tom Connor of Midnight's Edge on YouTube! We're making up for our absence with nearly two hours of information and no-holds barred opinion! Fasten your seatbelts...wait, this is the U.S.S. It's Captain Q and Big Sexy minus Craig J. as we undergo our latest mission into the Delphic Expanse (yes, I'm currently watching Enterprise on Netflix). We had to launch at the last minute due to the breaking news we just received: PATRICK STEWART IS RETURNING TO STAR TREK! Break out the vintage Chateau Picard, this is cause for celebration...or is it cause for concern? On this episode, we discuss Stewart's return, what stories could possibly be told regarding a 78 year-old Starfleet officer and best of all: what guest stars would we hope Sir Patrick will convince to apear?! We also address some potential nonsense regarding a rumor of the Borg queen's appearance on Discovery! So beam on up to the U.S.S. We at THE RED SHIRTS offer our sincere apologies for the delay in programming. One of our members had a passing in the family which put things on hold for a some time. The following episode was recorded a month ago, but shelved until now, so new developments in Trek news may have occurred since the recording.
It's just Capt. Qstorm and Big Sexy piloting the USS Internet throughout the quadrant at warp 9 on this outing! But you're welcome to beam aboard as we discuss Star Trek Deep Space Nine in the first part of this two-parter! Big Sexy was already a big fan of the series, I was definitely NOT a fan when it first ran in syndication...but now that I've watched the entire series on Netflix, I wanted to share my opinions on this popular Trek series. But before we get into that, we discuss a trove of Trek news: Star Trek 4, three new Trek series, and developments on a possible Tarantino Trek movie! A lot of ground to cover, so let's set a course !

If you haven't seen the TOS episode The Conscience Of The King, then this episode contains mild spoilers. Given that that program was aired in the late Sixties, there shouldn't be any spoilers for you at all, unless you're new to Star Trek, in which case, welcome! I give my review of the latest Discovery tie-in novel Drastic Measures! Please note: this is an episode formatted for YouTube, so there are moments that contain title cards which have no audio.
Shakespeare, Steinbeck, Ralph Ellison...all masters at their craft. Then there's Harlan Ellison, Gene L. Coon, and D.C. With the help of comic book writer and Red Shirt fan emeritus Dallas Casavant, The Red Shirts delve into reviewing this classic episode of the original series today,May 27, coincidentally the birthday of writer Harlan Ellison. So much Trek to get into that we created TREK TALK version 2! We discuss new cast members on the next season of Discovery, including possibly a young pointy-eared, pasty-faced half-alien with a bowl cut, perhaps? We delve into Star Trek 4 and Trek history being made with the hiring of a female director on a Trek film for the first time (in 40 years, sheesh)! We speculate how the arrival of the Enterprise might affect continuity within Discovery, Qstorm gives out little morsels about the Star Trek Discovery tie-in novels Desperate Hours and Drastic Measures. But we're back...and in that time, we've all had a chance to watch and re-watch this premiere season of DSC as well as the finale. Now it's time to discuss! Yes, the Red Shirts' latest mission was delayed due to an encounter with the I.S.S. Internet, I almost had to stab Mirror Craig J. in the damn turbolift and Mirror Big Sexy is trapped in an agonizer right about now. But your captain is present and accounted for! On deck today: we discuss the return of Discovery! But even before we get into that, we touch on the #MeToo movement and its connection to Star Trek, I present a wacky theory about the connection of DSC Klingons to TOS Klingons, then we get into Black Mirror: CALLISTER! And somehow, we wind up talking about HBO's Westworld?? Last, but not least, we discuss if CBS All Access is worth paying for, once DSC wraps up its first season. We're behind a couple episodes, but we're still right on time!
Happy holidays, fellow Trekkies! The U.S.S. Internet is down one crew member this mission, Craig J. had to handle other business. Nonetheless, we made our list, checked it twice and came up with the top two contenders in the battle for most annoying: Wesley Crusher and Jake Sisko! Yes, we put these two to the test, we make the case for both to determine who is the worst! We also touch on other contenders such as Naomi Wildman, Icheb, Charlie X, and yes...Alexander Rozhenko!

Star Trek bout to get medieval on your a**! Yup, famed director Quentin Tarantino has expressed interest in Star Trek! Of course, the Red Shirts had to investigate this phenomenon. We discuss Tarantino's possible R-rated Trek film and the impact on the franchise. Has this made Star Trek relevant again? We'll get into it! We also cover Patrick Stewart's statements on the franchise. Then we get into what we're watching while we await the return of Star Trek Discovery next month! I was going to release the latest podcast, a review of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, but consider this a preemption. That episode is on deck, but first, consider this the sequel to the Red Shirts podcast STAR TREK NEMESIS: STOP THE HATE. Once again, we're on a crusade against haters, but this time, we're targeting Discovery haters. Some fans have valid gripes about the show, even though I disagree, but this episode addresses those OTHER complaints from alleged Star Trek fans.
The USS Internet returns for an episode 12 years in the making! STAR TREK DISCOVERY, the first Trek TV series since Enterprise went off the air in 2005 is finally here and we go all in to review this latest entry into the Trek universe. Robb Gallo returns with Tom Connors of Midnight's Edge and Midnight's Edge After Dark. Not only do we discuss Discovery but Q challenges the crew to see where their loyalties lie, with Trek..? Or with (dum dum DUUUUMMMM) Orville!

On this episode, we beam aboard a special guest: ROB GALLO from the pop/geek YouTube channel Midnight's Edge! Rob is the distinguished voice/announcer/emcee for all the content on Midnight's Edge, ranging from movies, comics and of course, STAR TREK! With Rob's help, we break down all the details of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY behind the scenes, with info about the cast, the controversies, the legal aspects, plus an amusing (and somewhat depressing) anecdote about CBS honcho Les Moonves and another certain sci-fi franchise from a galaxy far far away!

In this special (and by special, we mean "last minute and unplanned") edition of The Red Shirts, Claire Lanay joins Qstorm to discuss The Orville! We give our honest thoughts about the show and its potential impact on the Star Trek franchise and the upcoming Star Trek Discovery, no holds barred!
Watch Michael Jackson's SCREAM video. I suspect the Orville designers borrowed heavily from it:

This week, the Red Shirts have a free-flowing discussion about William Shatner's best-selling book Star Trek Movie Memories! We share some of the more interesting little tidbits that Shatner reveals during the course of wrapping up Star Trek the original series and over the duration of seven major motion pictures. We pontificate over the salaries of the Star Trek actors, about how the original treatment for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier was literally a hell of a concept, and Qstorm laments the fact that the original concept for Star Trek VI didn't come to be. Oh, and we debate which is faster, light speed or warp speed!
We also reference the rock creature scene from Galaxy Quest: goo.gl/42pNUZ

In this episode, Qstorm goes rogue and suggests that Star Trek III:The Search For Spock is actually a better film than the hallowed Star Trek II: Wrath Of Khan! Plus, talk of a Wrath Of Khan PREQUEL (or would it be a Space Seed sequel)?? And Big Sexy is in rare form throughout the proceedings! We also talk about the Star Trek III soundtrack by James Horner. Featured tracks from the OST can be found below:
Stealing The Enterprise goo.gl/XVZRxK
From the bouncy strings at the beginning of this cut, when Kirk punches the Starfleet security guard to rescue Bones, all the way to the conclusion when the Excelsior drifts to a halt due to Scotty's sabotage, this track does NOT let up! It's a standout on the soundtrack.
Bird Of Prey Decloaks goo.gl/Wu81Uy
A warrior's track! Very percussive hallmark theme for the Klingons, including unique use of horns (I'm guessing trombones). Another standout.
Wrath of Khan prequel? goo.gl/Xjhjpk

The crew of the U.S.S. Internet discuss the casting of Jason Isaacs as the new captain of the Discovery. Would it have been better to see another female captain or a captain of color? Will it go down well having an African-American female play second fiddle to Isaacs? Will the SJWs lose their minds if the captain dresses down the 1st officer? The Red Shirts boldly GO THERE!

"There's a...thing out there." And this thing first appeared back in 1979. It's designation? Star Trek: The Motion Picture. And after we saw it, some of us wondered, "Where are they going with this...thing?" (Oops, wrong franchise). The Red Shirts turn off all holodeck safety protocols to examine the problems and issues of Star Trek's big screen debut!
Qstorm, Big Sexy, and Craig J. have beamed aboard the USS Internet, opened hailing frequencies on multiple subspace channels and are ready to discuss how they discovered Star Trek, what made them diehard fans, and why they continue to be fans today!
