We became ministers according to the stewardship from God that was given to us for you, to make the word of God fully known, the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this we toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within us.

This talk was given by David Heisler at the Louisville reunion in 2008. This is probably one of the best recordings that shares the simple truth that Christ lives His life, as you, through and we in our own form are Saviors to our worlds.
Ever Learning
All my “Christian” life, since 1971, I have heard people talking about “learning”. And, generally speaking, “learning” is a good thing. I always say, “You learn something new every day”. Sometimes, you learn something that you knew a long time ago, but just forgot. That’s a sign of getter older, I think, but that’s a story for another day. The question is if you can “learn” to be a Christian? Can you learn to be a better Christian? Once a female friend told me she was going on a retreat to teach other women how to pray properly. I was amused by that statement, but, none-the-less, I wished her the best.
In Timothy II, Paul is railing on all sorts of folk that he didn’t appreciate much. And he makes this interesting statement. “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” [2 Tim. 3.7] What does Paul mean in regard to the “knowledge of the truth”? Apparently, “the truth” - is not learned, at least not learned in the same sense that one learns the alphabet or the times tables or perhaps, even, how to pray properly.

Daily Thoughts
Tired of Being for Others?

Now the danger arises of us thinking that we must rush about being not for ourselves but for others. By no means. Just go on being yourself and don't give a thought about being for others. Just run your own life, accept yourself, be yourself, love yourself! Appreciate that you are a special person, specially gifted by God. For what? That's not your business. Don't try and run His business! Get on with your daily occupations and putting all your heart into them. But of course, there's a catch in that. You are not really yourself, but Christ in you, Christ the real you. And He is for others and He knows exactly how He will reach others by you in your special life's situation and with your special equipment, of which you may not even be conscious, and probably good that you are not! If you try to fuss around being something for others, for your neighbors, for good works in your church, your town or out to the world, you may be so occupied in the wrong direction that He will have to do some more work on you to get you where He really wants you!
He is love in us, other-love, so you just can't help yourself. Without any kind of human effort, you just find yourself drawn into maybe love-contacts with naturally unpleasant neighbors; you find that folks somehow get in touch with you, because you are free from fussing about your affairs or theirs, just free to love, not to condemn or judge or try to change them, and one or another will be coming to you and pouring out their burdens. But when folks do find that you are available, you have to beware against being back under the law. The Spirit is original in each of us and He will get His original plan into action by you in some way which frees you from man-pleasing. So, we are back on the usual paradox: do nothing which stems from self-effort. But in being a do-nothing, you will actually be a do-everything, because the Real Doer whose aim is to get the world back to Himself will surely be busy by you in His own way and time. Yet watch even there when we say "He will be busy by you," because times will come when you will appear to be useless on the shelf, as if God has forgotten you (how crazy can we be!), and the only word left which can suit you is, "Be still and know that I am God." Very well, then, be still; and if God wants to be lazy in you, let Him be!

This below is a message to me from Alexander Malashkin, of the Ukraine. He has been writing me for a few months now, complimenting and liking my writings, but this is the first time he has told me his story. How wonderful it is that the Lord has opened doors and hearts all over the world!!! I am sitting here in my little apartment at my little desk on my little laptop, and just weeping with astonishment at what God hath wrought. Even now it is exceedingly abundantly above all I could ask or think, and we haven t even gotten to the full deal yet! This is the stuff!!! This is what we are about!!!! I ve been reading Norman talking about CTS wanting to see Jesus Christ running about in black bodies =- well here is Jesus Christ, (and I know Norman would be slapping his knee and CT would be plucking his banjo in praise) running around in Ukrainian bodies!!! And Dutch bodies, and Norwegian bodies, and Russian bodies, and bodies from every nation of the earth the Columbian and Ecuadorian and Brazilian bodies in South America, the Thai bodies and Malaysian bodies and the Indian bodies in Asia, we could go on and on ... Kenyans, Tanzanians, Sudanese, South Africans ... The Spirit has brought back to my mind an event I ve mentioned before, in Jun 1973 when Janis and I were on our way to California in our little putt-putt 1959 VW bus, sent out by the Spirit on Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. We stopped at a rest stop in Oklahoma. I got out of the bus to stretch my legs and felt the great wind that was blowing toward the east, which had been impeding our progress because of the big JESUS house on top of our bus, and suddenly was overtaken with an urgency, an urgency which has deepened since then and never left, but at the time when it struck me, I almost despaired of getting to California on time, before the Lord came back and everything was already over. I was a green newbie as much as anyone could be, but I wanted in on the harvest. I DID NOT WANT TO MISS OUT! Years and years went by a whole lifetime for us all our children have grown up and we have left our youthful days and we have plodded along and plodded along -- and now God has granted me to see the beginning of the Harvest that I know is coming across the face of the earth! I feel like Jesus in John 12 when Phillip said that some Greeks wanted to talk to Him. I think that s when it hit Him square in the chest, stunned His humanity, because He knew when the Gentiles came, it was HIS Time -- THAT was when He gave the great "corn of wheat fall into the ground and die" statement that we all live! It was John 12:20-27, that concluded with the statement, "Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour." And now we have come to OUR hour! And for this cause we have come to this hour! "Father, glorify thy Name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again." I could go on all night, but here is Alexander Malashkin's testimony and my little reply:

Hi, Fred, I want to share with you how Christ found and saved me. I was growing up without a father, who abandoned us, with my mother, older sister and grandmother. My mother worked in three shifts, and she was often sick.
My older sister, as I understand now, looking for somebody to meet her needs, got married, had a child, and then divorced her husband. Not having found an answer to her needs she started to sooth her pain with drinking and prostitution, and her life had a tragic end she was killed. I was 11 then.
All those situations had a direct influence on me and my life. Running away from pain and broken family, I moved into drugs and led a criminal way of life. I got married, we had a daughter, but my addiction was getting worth.
Then my mother died, our marriage was going through a crisis we were on the brink of a divorce. My criminal life brought serious problems with law, there also were problems in the criminal world, some of me so-called friends were killed in shoot-outs. As a result of that way of life I started to think about suicide, because I was absolutely confused and my life had no sense. And then Jesus came, as it s said that nobody s looking for God, but He knew me and allowed me to come to the end of myself to replace myself with Himself, so that it s not me, but Him, as Paul says, it s not me who lives, but Christ lives in me . Though I was on the verge of disaster, He didn t let me fall and saved me, as Isaiah 51:1 says, look to the rock from which you were hewn, and to the quarry from which you were digged . The Word of Christ moved into my heart abundantly through the testimony of my former friend who had believed. His Word became flesh, life, in me, and His life was revealed in a changed attitude and behavior, as I found out that I didn t need drugs and all that life I had lived. I restored my marriage, reconciled with people and started to preach God s grace to my addicted to drugs friends. And many turned to Christ and found freedom and salvation in Him.
But it took a lot of time to understand that it s not me who is good and strong, but Him, it s His life in me. It s already 17 years since I ve been walking in unity with Him, and He has been carrying me in His life. Isaiah 46:4, I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save . God has given me people to share His life with. I am a pastor of a small church, and I also serve to a group of men with addictions. It s a privilege to share what Jesus has been doing in and through me. Blessed be His name! Alexander
My little reply:
I am so blessed and delighted to have received your story of your life and coming to Jesus. It is late at night here and I will not write long in this moment, but just this short word to tell you how wonderful it is to hear from you and what the Lord has done in your life. It is GLORY! I truly marvel at the TRUTH of Christ that is proven daily in my sight by brothers and sisters such as you, who though we are in different cultures, different political systems, different backgrounds, yet it is the same God in Christ, the same SAVING and DELIVERING TRUTH WORLDWIDE! It only confirms and strengthens each of our faiths to hear of the SAME HOLY SPIRIT saying the SAME EXACT THINGS in our inner being, no matter what our language, culture or background! Praise God! I am always astounded, even after 43 earth years of KNOWING the LORD, how ALL in ALL and UNIVERSAL He is, that is, that HE is the SAME LORD over all, in you and in me, and in all who call upon His Name!
You are blessed and I am blessed with you, dear brother. Please stay in touch. Your life in Christ, He as YOU, blesses me beyond words. I have never thought about coming to your part of the world. I have only been out of the US a few times, mostly to Canada, and once to England, but I would treasure one day being able to visit the Ukraine, should God will it. Thank you so much for writing me with the highlights of your story! Blessed be the Name of the Lord! All my love in Christ, Fred!
The Coming Mighty Wind

In 1973, the year John and I, along with Wade and Harriet Wearren moved into our new homes on Poplar Lane, I asked Norman Grubb if there was anyone else on the planet that he shared with, Paul's mystery of the gospel in Col.1:28 and Galatians 2:20. His answer was "Oh yes, my dear, I visit folk all over the country." So, I asked him if we could have a house party and invite them over for a week-end of sharing. In 1974 we hosted 40 people, the next year 80 and from that time, we outgrew the house and began meeting yearly outside in a tent with a crowd that grew to 250 coming from all over the world.
After 40 plus years, the Spirit clearly spoke to us saying; "Shut Louisville Down." Age was taking a toll on us and since we were sensitive to the Spirits ways, Harriet and I agreed to have lunch to discuss what we thought He was trying to tell us. She began by saying she thought we should be finished. Then she asked me: "How does that make you feel?" To which I replied, "It makes me very sad but I take to heart how He is moving in you." We parted saying to each other, "We will trust HIM to change one of us." After a few days He said to me: "Unto every thing there is a season," which gave me peace that this was His word, to us, to do. We decided to have one last time together and then let it go.

The news went out and although most were sad, a most encouraging letter came from Bill Oberdorf saying this:
" Linda, It is easy to lay down something that is dead, it is very costly to lay down something that is living." "And unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies,it remains by itself alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit."
"Bears much fruit" ....
As we were sinking into the reality that there would no longer be a family reunion, a time set apart when we came together to renew our love and fellowship, We also knew that Louisville would never be repeated again; What was old was over! What was new was on its way, and since one cannot put old wine into new wineskins, we had hope that the Spirit would give us the new word He wanted us to believe.
Then a promise came ... "I will shake everything that can be shaken, until that which cannot be shaken shall remain." ... And that can only be Christ manifested in many sons.
What was the Spirit up to?
Through the years, Norman spoke of a second Reformation. We knew he was right but where and how would it come! For the most part in our circles the main topic of
conversation became a Political fight between the left and right and social issues such as gay rights and abortion.
Pentecost/Holy Spirit.
Out of our appearing negatives, some of us began to sense the positive word that it would take another Pentecost; another mighty rushing wind of the Spirit to shake loose the old traditions that have, for centuries, held the body of Christ in bondage.
To most, Pentecost is just a history lesson. An event that happened only to those that were present.
In the 60's there was an outbreak of the Spirit upon the body of Christ with the emphasis being on receiving the gifts. Yet, came another split. The ones who were blessed with the gifts said that if you did not have them, you did not have the Spirit. Oral Roberts even said it to Benny Hinn, twice, on television. I could hardly believe my ears.
BUT, because THE GIFTS CAN NEVER BE THE GIVER, (they are only an attribute of the Him), many in the Charismatic movement have moved in different directions, even some going back under law which for some resulted in “shepherding.”
It seems the Holy Spirit has been the least known or discussed person of the Trinity. We speak of God and Jesus but when ask 'WHO' is the Holy Spirit, the answers usually come back (ABOUT) him, OR that he is a vapor of dust; a ghost; or from the more scholarly, the quoted scriptures that tell ABOUT him as a helper.
In the meantime there was a small group of us meeting at Donna Brenzel’s house. Out of nowhere the topic of just who the Holy Spirit IS began to emerge. As the weeks went on, our eyes were opened to the fact that, for the sake of definition, the Holy Spirit in His own right, IS A PERSON ALSO!
Then came this most profound word from Gary Bonikowsky in Canada saying: "We did not participate in the birth of Jesus, but his death and resurrection is another story. And that story is a vital part of us and who we are in Him. We are who He died to produce. Shouldn't we, who have entered into the holiest, by a new and living way, be occupied living it out rather than coming back again and again to celebrate an annual ritual about entering in? And what of Pentecost, that supreme event in human history and the religious calendar, where the risen glorified Christ, seated at the right hand of the Father, sends forth His Holy Spirit to inhabit the lives of the redeemed, to effect the Vine/Branch union, to (cause) us to be what we were created to be and could not be without? Compared to Easter it goes practically unrecognized. These things trouble me."
Think about it! Easter was to satisfy God ... Pentecost is to satisfy US. The blood shed and sprinkled, ONCE, was enough to take our sins out of God's sight as far as the east from the west. His eyes are too pure to behold iniquity. If we celebrated Pentecost and
total truth of what really happened when the veil was ripped in two and the Spirit came out .... the body of Christ would rise to take its rightful position as heirs and sons. Not little children, nor young men, but Fathers. There is much to be told of the rest of the story.
As you can see, Pentecost/Holy Spirit have become the operative words in our consciousness. He is moving us to do as the early men did when they heard Jesus say; " Behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you, but you are to wait here until you are clothed with power from on high."
And that is exactly what we are doing; waiting, encouraging each other to say that The Holy Spirit, Pentecost, and the Reformation IS at hand; The power coming is not just in us, but in the whole body of Christ. It is finished and the shout of a KING IS AMONG US!
Dee Dee Winter’s Response
In discussing the Holy Spirit and Pentecost recently with Linda several things settled in me in a strong way. I began thinking about Pentecost when the Spirit stopped me with the thought to not celebrate the old, but rather look to the New Pentecost that was coming. I began pondering what would make it new....
What had come at the first Pentecost, as well as the coming of the Holy Spirit in our lives, had both been with the same outward signs. I sensed that what is coming was to be different. I began to think how the Holy Spirit had broken out in numerous times over the last 2,000 years. In our lifetime the Charismatic Renewal in the 60’s and 70’s was a mighty force. Many churches today are built around the Charismatic gifts of the Spirit, but NEVER has the body of Christ embraced the Holy Spirit from a place of wholeness within themselves. NEVER has the believer known their union, their oneness, their unity with God through Jesus Christ. They were sinners saved by grace...now touched in a new way by the Holy Spirit....but still retaining their separated consciousness of a life independent from God...living by the law and trying to live the Christian life. NEVER has this mighty life-force of the Holy Ghost who fell upon the disciples in the Upper Room fifty days after Easter inhabited a WHOLE person who is no longer afraid of their humanity or of every expression He will be by us! NEVER have believers known everything about them is perfect...a perfect God living in and expressing Himself by a perfect human! NEVER...until our day!
It will be very amazing to see how this all plays out in today’s world. “To whom much is given, much is required.”

The Sole Purpose of Our Creation

It has been over three years since I laid bare my heart and mind in the book YES I AM (which I thought might be my last before I join the Hebrews Eleven “cloud of witnesses”). In it I had sought to do as Priscilla and Aquila did for Apollos: “expound the way of God more perfectly.”
But in some areas I now feel that I did not adequately underline certain vital points. So I set out in sixteen sections some extra sharings in the hope of giving certain areas of the book further clarity [continued]

At the beginning of today's recording, I share a little background and context.
"Thanks be to God which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (I Corinthians 15:57).
When God is pleased to reveal His Son to us, we will learn that
Victory is not a thing, but a Person; that Victory is not an experience, but a
Man; that God does not give me a thing called victory, but has given me
His Son in the place of victory in order to be my Victory. Then Victory will
never be future-tense and far-away, but Ever Present and Now. For Victory
is Christ. And Victory lives within you.
Thus, Victory has nothing to do with the devil, and everything to do
with Christ. Since most Christians have more faith, assurance and
reverence for the devil than they do for the Lord Jesus, it is easy to see why so
many are defeated.

This evening I read from the booklet, Touching the Invisible by Norman Grubb. I read chapter 8 - How to maintain unity. This is relevant to me because the previous evening, I enjoyed conversation with the Beer-N-Bible group and found myself speaking with great boldness and liberty, the truth as I now know it. And as a result, one gentleman in the group bristled and said I was haughty, because I said I didn’t go to a church building on a regular basis. I was not insulted at all, and my brethren at the table sought to smooth over ruffled feathers as best they could. On my drive home, the Holy Spirit reminded me of His fruits and one in particular - gentleness. I thought I could have been a little more gentle with the chap, and perhaps in future, Spirit willing, I will be. But, and it’s the Holy But (see The Rest of the Gospel: When the Partial Gospel has Worn You Out for the reference), and another reminder from Fred Pruitt’s post today that the gospel is offensive to some, that when truth spoken, clashes with long-held beliefs, then there is this bristling or question asking or some kind of response. When this happens, I know I’ve hit gold and by the reaction I know that their spirit is stirred to ask and respond to my offense. But. And, this excerpt I read aloud tonight is for my benefit, so I may listen again over a few times on my commutes in the next week or so. So I may learn whatever lesson the Spirit wants to teach me about accepting that Christ in me, is working just as well as Christ in my brother, and I should take a lesson from Jesus in Matthew, the plank example, that if want to pick the speck out of my brothers’ eye, I should first remove the tree trunk from mine. At the conclusion of my reading, I share a little of my own story, and how I came to learn that God revealed His son in me.

They gave us a magnificent headquarters, in England, for our mission. Quite center for fellowship and so on. I was there when it was opened, and I said, "Does the Holy Spirit come out of it?" That is a good question to ask of any edifice, that contains God's people. Does the Holy Spirit come out of it? If not, the place is not of God.
We have to watch that. What's Union Life? Nothing!!!! What's a magazine? Nothing!!!!Unless it is Christ coming through. You have got to watch against "Union Lifers" and stuff like that, sects or something. That moment they become death. The point is does: life come out?
Don't judge. Leave the person to God, if we think they have made a mistake. Let God take them the mistaken way. Certainly people would have thought Abraham was a fool. He probably didn't tell Sarah until it was all over. Jesus was in the eyes of the world a fool. He died a criminal according to world standards. Jesus died a failure. He didn't leave one success behind Him on earth. His success was only in another dimension, in the resurrection. So the lesson to us is, "Don't judge!"
So James is saying (his whole letter does) faith is something which produces. We know that now, we do not take condemnation. We are producers. If we are not, the Holy Spirit better get showing us. So faith is production. Faith is a new life lived, which is the inner background. This is not the same "as trembling as the devils”, but is not followed through by the devoured life.

The Power XIV
Sometimes in the face of “apparently” overwhelming evil our only first step is to agree with Joseph and say, “God did this”. The explanation may or may not come later.
By the same token, if you have the ability to change the apparent evil – do something - that is Him in action, moving you into action. When you can affect the change – do it – as Him doing it. Never stand by silently, inactively, when others need you. That is why you are there, precisely at that moment.
We have all faced a situation, or two, or a hundred, when it appears as though evil has won. It is that point where reality through faith must take over. There are moments when we look in the mirror, speaking to Him, and the only thing we can say is, “I don’t know what You’re up to – I don’t like it – I don’t understand – but I accept this from You at the moment”.
We can, and often must, default to our basics. There is only one God and He is the only Power in the universe. Some call this the “seeing through” approach and I like that phrase. Can we look apparent evil in the eye and see through to Him – even if we don’t know why?
Yes we can. Yes we will.

The Power XIII
So, I posed the question of how it was possible for Joseph to get the correct perspective that, regardless of the intent of his brothers or the appearance of evil, that it was God that purposed the events of his life.
Well, for one, Joseph was no more or less human than the rest of us. So, without a doubt he didn’t get it immediately. Initially, probably, all he could see was the evil and a world controlled by the devil – with the “forces of good and evil” fighting it out. All of which is incorrect, but sometimes our perspective, no matter how incorrect, can cloud and color everything we see, think or do.
And we don’t know exactly when Joseph “got it” and to what extent his statement to his brothers was simply a statement of faith. In fact, even when he made his great statement to his brothers, he may have still been struggling with acceptance. But, for our purposes, the most important fact is that he made the correct statement, “God did send me before you to preserve life.” At minimum, speaking the word of faith, is the correct start. Jesus, the One “Who made all things”, is described as the “Word of God”. [John 1.3] Accordingly, therefore all creation, including the creation of the right perspective on things, starts with a “word” – or, really the Word.

The Power XII
“Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.” [Gen. 45 .5]
What did Joseph mean? Several things, probably – but most important – God had purpose in what appeared to be evil. From Joseph’s perspective, it would appear that he knew the true underlying reality of his brothers selling him into slavery – an apparently evil act – was, indeed, not God’s afterthought, but His well-conceived, purposeful act.
Our basics are correct. There is only one God and He is the only power in the universe. However, there are times we must look an apparently evil situation in the eye and, say with faith, “I don’t understand, but, I will accept this from You.”
“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.” [Matt. 10.29] Even a bird does not fall from the air that He does not purpose. Therefore what situation is random or not intentional? Nothing, probably.
How did Joseph get the correct perspective that, regardless of the intent of his brothers or the appearance of evil, that it was God that purposed the events of his life?

The Power XI
“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.” [Isa. 45.7]
I say the statement is “curious” because of the “create evil” part. Some say “create the possibility of evil”. I won’t. I do have a problem with God creating evil, so I default to my framework - He has His purpose in everything. We do not live in the “Garden”. Who would really want a life like that anyway? We would remain immature babies if life was wonderful and easy all the time.
Consider the evil scenario of older brothers selling their younger brother into slavery. Then, lying to their father saying the brother is dead. For all intents and purposes that brother was dead, never to be seen again. Consider if Joseph was your child.
Well, how did Joseph ultimately deal with that situation? When reunited with his brothers many years later, and those brothers fearing for their lives, Joseph said, “Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.” [Gen. 45 .5]

The Power X
Okay, how do we deal with the appearance of evil? That’s a tough one. And, I say “appearance” because we like to categorize, perhaps incorrectly, everything into “good and evil”. Just turn on the news. Innocents die and suffer needlessly every day. The world “seems” to be going to hell. We have our own personal hells. We suffer. We get sick. Our loved ones suffer – lose their jobs – die - homes get foreclosed.
Isaiah [inspired] makes some very basic statements about reality:
“I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.” [Isa. 45.5-6]
I don’t think these verses leave any question that there is but One God - One Power in the universe. What is tougher to deal with is the next verse - a very curious statement also made by Isaiah:
“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.” [Isa. 45.7]

The Power IX
Christianity has allowed – permitted, satan to have great influence in the day in, day out, normal life of Christianity. Just consider the amount of time spent in the pulpit, Sunday after Sunday, where we are warned about the “power” of satan. His purported power and influence are extolled constantly for our consideration. Let me be perfectly clear – this is not Christianity. This is not of Him. This exaltation of satan is of satan and not of God. We must sharpen our understanding and clarify our approach.
Lucifer’s other approach is that Christianity is for “my” benefit. “If I do so and so I get the blessings – wealth – health – whatever, you name it”. This is satan speaking these silly and immature words. In reality, Christianity is not “for me”. Christianity – real life – is the reality of Him as me and me as Him resulting in my life for others. Satan wants us totally engaged and consumed with ourselves, always looking inward for self-improvement, producing some self-benefit. And, so long as we are convinced that he is a “separate power” and independent operator we remain immature children, never grasping our true selves as expressions of the Christ in our world, as we are consumed with him, fighting him and believing his lies about our true identity.
We are almost at the point of dealing with the appearance of evil power in the world.

The Power VIII
Despite the temptations, satan posed no threat to Jesus – never did, never will. “Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.”[John 14:30]
Satan was just an agent used by God to force Jesus to consider His true identity and become settled in that identity – namely, the Savior and Lover of the world. Should we consider satan to be different for us? Of course not. He has his purpose. He’s just a liar. We must hone our skills at lie detection and settle into and confirm our true identity.
Our true identity is Christ as us. We are co-saviors and lovers of our world. We must be lied to and tempted from our singleness of purpose. The lies and the temptations are for our benefit – just as they were to Jesus – to settle us into our true identity and maturity.
So, God’s agent [satan] offers a religious approach to Christianity. He offers self-improvement. “Self-improvement” is a lie. If there was ever anything wrong with our “selves” the blood of His cross washed those problems eternally away. We are redeemed and reconciled by the sacrificial death of the Savior. There is nothing left to improve.

The Power VII
Okay, so who is this created being to whom we ascribe independent power?
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” [Isaiah 14.12-15]
He is terribly misguided and not independent at all.
But he does have great purpose in our lives. Consider that Jesus was not ready for his public ministry until he had faced the devil and put him in his place. And so shall we. But,what was lucifer’s necessary purpose in Jesus’ life just prior to Jesus’ public ministry? Jesus had to settle, in His mind and in His heart, Who He was and His purpose. If Jesus ever had a thought that He would be an earthly king or great military leader those thoughts had to be dealt with. Further, Jesus had to know that His ability to heal the sick was something He did for others – He was not going to be a great magician working tricks for His own benefit.

THE POWER VI
Do you see satan needed permission to work over Job? God gave satan the idea and then set the boundaries – telling satan what he was allowed to do and what he was not allowed to do. Apparently, he also needed permission to work over Peter. “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.” [Luke 22.31]
Satan is different than us in that he has seen God and, apparently has rejected Him in a way that no human ever has. I say that because he has actually seen God face to face – no question whatsoever that he has seen God and despite that fact – rejected Him. No human has ever seen God face to face, as satan has, and made the same knowing and intelligent rejection.
Some liars are so good at what they do that they convince themselves that what they say is true, though it be false. Well, satan/lucifer is such a good liar that he thinks he is telling the truth – in fact he has convinced himself. What are satan’s lies that we so readily accept as true? First, he thinks and says that he is God’s rival and therefore a legitimate threat to the kingdom. He says that he is omnipresent [in all places at all times]. He claims to pose a threat to us and our salvation. As a result we think that he has independent power and that we must fight him.

THE POWER V
“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.” [Job 1.6] So, satan was among the “sons of God”. Does that make him a son? I don’t know. I do know he is created and not a creator. So, is satan an independent operator? Does he need permission to do what he does? Is he part of the big, overall plan for things? Does he fit into history or create history?
“And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?” [Job 1.8]
Whose idea was it to train-wreck Job’s life? God or satan? It appears to be God’s idea to me. But why? We’ll get to that later. But, we know God put the thought in satan’s mind. Satan was the agent of apparent evil and destruction in Job’s life. But, we can’t give him credit for the decision to do it. That creates an apparent blurring of the line between “good and evil”. Is that important? Can we deal with that?
“And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand.” [Job1.12]

THE POWER IV
Why is this discussion so important? Because, there is so much misinformation and outright lies about competing “power”. We have been “tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine…” [Eph. 4.14] We have not been “rightly dividing the word of truth”. [2 Tim. 2.15] We must take a mature approach to our faith, otherwise “the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all” [Galatians 4.1]
Of course the discussion creates problems at this point because how do we now explain what “appears” to be terribly destructive evil powers? Satan is a created being. He has no independent life in himself. No created being in the universe has independent life. What satan has is what he is given – no more – no less.
“Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given theefrom above…” John 19.11
Who was Jesus really talking to? What is Pilate or was it satan? Or both? Or, was He speaking for our benefit, so we would know, for certain, with full assurance, that His crucifixion was neither a random act nor satan “winning” in some fashion?

Throne Life by Norman Grubb
"And the Lord said to Moses, 'Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it; and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea'" (Exodus 14:15,16). In effect, God was saying: "Why do you ask Me to do it? Do it yourself. Stretch out your rod and divide the sea." In other words, Moses had said to God, "You do it;" but God answered Moses, "No, you do it."
A glance through the Bible and many Christian biographies multiply instances of this by the thousands: Jeremiah, Gideon, Hudson Taylor, and the like. In the settlement of this controversy lies the key to all spiritual power and achievement throughout history.
Man starts on the Christian highway with much of the grave clothes of the Fall still upon him. Separation from God has been a stark reality to him; he knows the weakness of the flesh; visible lack and need are more concrete to him than invisible fullness and supply. He knows the reconciling grace of God through Christ, conveying to him the assurance of adoption into God's family; but his expressions and attitudes still contain the consciousness of separation. He uses the analogy of the members of one family, but with distinct and separated members: "I am weak. He is strong." "I have need. He has supply." "I am of the earth, earthy. He is the Lord from heaven."
But to those who have ears to hear and hearts set to follow comes a new word: "Say not, I am a child. Go in this your might." Say not I am weak, I am carnal, I am needy, I am earthy. Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead. Understand that the Lord is joined unto you, one spirit. Understand that you have the mind of Christ. Understand that the life of Christ is ever flowing in and through you, as the sap of the vine through the branches.
Do not keep asking for what you already have. Do not sing, "I need Thee, oh, I need Thee." Sing, "I have Thee, oh, I have Thee." Never waste breath by asking Him to be near you, Who is already within you, joined to you in such a union that you and He are described as "one spirit."
Do not cry for what you already have, but use it, use it. "Why do you cry... You stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it." Speak out the word of faith. Exercise the authority of God. Christ spoke such a word as this. He spoke it once to a fig tree: "Let no one eat fruit from you ever again" (Mark 11:14). Next day Peter noted that it had withered, and he commented, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree which you cursed has withered away." Now note what Christ said, in effect: "You go and do the same. I spoke the word of authority with which I am equipped by the indwelling Father [see John 14:10ff]. Now you speak it also." His actual words were, "Have the faith of God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be removed, and be cast into the sea; ... he shall have whatsoever he says" (Mark 11:23).
"Have the faith of God" is the literal rendering, as in the margin of the Authorized Version, and this conveys the vital meaning more clearly than just "have faith in God," as in the Authorized Version text. For to "have faith in God" means to many just a reliance on the ability of God in His heaven and a leaving it to Him to do it. But to "have the faith of God" means to recognize an indwelling God (as Jesus did in the instance cited above), to realize that we have His mind, and that by the inspiration of His Spirit we speak forth with our human lips the word of believing faith, of authority, just as He did when He said, "'Let there be light': and there was light," or as the Lord Jesus did in the above incident. And we are told in Romans 4:17 that the faith of God is that "He calls those things which be not as though they were." We are to do the same.
Thus Christ said, "Say unto this mountain." "Say," not "pray." The word is most significant. The thought is not that all prayer should be omitted (for the Word counsels us to pray) but that prayer should not be from an attitude of feeling that one has not and therefore has needs. Saying the word of faith is the attitude of one who has and dispenses what he has. Such is the "throne life" as we commonly speak of it. A throne is occupied by a king. A king is a possessor and dispenser of gifts. This is why we who are believers and joined to Christ -- He the head, we the members of one Body, physically on earth, spiritually enthroned -- are told that we are "kings ... unto God" and "seated in the heavenlies."
Examine the men of God through the Bible -- both prophets and apostles -- and you will find this conscious attitude of authoritative faith to be theirs. The difference stands out clearly with Hezekiah and Isaiah.
Hezekiah was a man of prayer. The threats of the enemy came upon him with overwhelming force. He prayed. He bemoaned weakness. "This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth" (Isaiah 37:3). "Not strength" was his emphasis. Then he sent word of the situation to the man of faith. Hear Isaiah's answer, a declaration, a saying unto this mountain. "Thus says the Lord, 'Do not be afraid of the words which you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. Surely, I will send a spirit upon him, and he shall ... return to his own land'" (vs. 6,7). The one -- godly, praying man though he was -- spoke in weakness. The other spoke in authority. The one was fully conscious of need and lack and separation from the supply of power. The other knew union with God, and spoke as His mouthpiece.
In the missionary society of which I was British Secretary, I was notified of a severe crisis in one department of the work, sufficient, if it came to a head, to spoil the advance of years in that area. Before I understood the life of authority in the Spirit, I would have recognized the attempt of the devil to disrupt a work, and would have labored in prayer for the destruction of his devices. But, in the maintaining of the position of the throne life, the Lord spoke to me through one sentence in a letter concerning the affair. It said, "I am afraid you are in for a sea of trouble." The Holy Spirit said, "What did Jesus do in a storm? Walk on the waters, or sink beneath them?"
I saw in a moment. I was not to spend one wasted minute fearing, doubting, burdened, magnifying the power of Satan. I was immediately to declare the victory over Satan gained two thousand years ago. I was to see it to be a present victory in this very affair, not a future one. I was to enjoy the defeat of Satan. I was to count this actual trial as "all joy" and no sorrow, and to realize that if God does allow the enemy to come in like a flood, it is always to give an opportunity for the authority of faith to be manifested by which Satan is given a bigger defeat, and the work of God a bigger advance.
So from that day to the day five months later when those concerned met for the critical settlement, I enjoyed the trial, laughed the laugh of faith, and bore the testimony in public and private that there was this severe trial. The devil always makes a laughing stock of himself (Colossians 2:15), for his attacks in the hands of faith become boomerangs; he gets the defeat and we the new blessing, as at Calvary. And I told folk that I would return to describe the victory in due course. And thus, of course, it has been. In one meeting every cloud vanished; unity and stability came to this department beyond anything in its history, and all learned a little more how not to be ignorant of Satan's devices.
The use of "the faith of God," which was operative there against an attack of the enemy, has been proved hundreds of times over to be equally the secret for obtaining supplies, moving governments, saving souls, transforming characters, and the like.
These are but scrappy jottings written on a river steamer in the interior of South American on this "lost chord of Christianity," but sufficient to put a seeking reader on the trail. To one who asks, "But how can we realize this as a personal experience?" we answer, as God answered Moses in the incident at the beginning of this article: "Awake! Arise from your deluded condition as if you are still fallen, still separated by sin, still weak. Realize your equipment, the mystery hid from ages and from generations: Christ In You. Declare it, as the prophets of old: 'I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord.' Cease to live bound up in those old grave clothes of 'judging by appearances.' and 'walking by sight.' You feel weak, you don't sense the presence of Christ, you feel loveless, and of little faith, and all the rest of it, because you still live in the devil's lies of the have-not life. But you have all things. All is within, if Christ the Savior is within. Burst through those bonds of feelings. Say, 'Though all men and devils say I have not, I say I have, on the authority of God's word.'"
The principle involved cannot be applied arbitrarily to just any need in the whole world, but rather to the sphere for which God in His grace has made you individually responsible.
Then, according to the needs of your calling and sphere of life and service, speak forth the word of faith. Call the things that be not as though they were. Carry out Mark 11:24: "Whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them."
Law of Faith - Preface
IN 1940 a little book was published called Touching the Invisible A promise was then made of another book to follow, which would deal more fully with the spiritual truths touched upon in its pages. This book is the promised attempt.
It has not been lightly written; indeed, after practically completing the manuscript some four years ago, it has now again been almost entirely rewritten.
The truths contained in it have been central to my life for many years. In putting them on paper, I feel that I am passing on to others the most precious and innermost secrets that God has taught me, and I have long felt that I could never rest satisfied till I had committed them to writing. Of recent years, too, perhaps through many attempts to expound them, some points that were more obscure to me have become much clearer, and I have felt more able to give an outline of them.
At the same time, I keenly realize the truth of Paul's saying: "If any man think that he knoweth everything, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know." I realize how careful we have to be to see that any "view of truth" we have is really and truly "the truth as it is in Jesus;" also that any viewpoint we may hold is only one "find" from that all-embracing treasury of wisdom and knowledge which is "hid in Christ." Others come back from their search with jewels equally or much more precious. If there is a thesis of truth, there is also an antithesis, and the balance of the Word of God is to be sought and maintained.
In that spirit, therefore, of readiness to be shown where we may err in emphasis, and of appreciation of complementary and counterbalancing aspects of truth, I hope that God may bless these chapters and make them of as practical benefit in the daily life as I have found them to be.

The Power III
The fact that only One Power exists in the Universe is abundantly clear as Moses is addressing Israel. He is warning and reminding them that when they obtain success in the future not to forget that the only “power” they possess is what which is given to them and it does not originate with them.
“But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth [or anything for that matter], that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.” [Deut. 8.18]
“Power” appears in many forms and expressions as “light” is a form or expression of electricity, but it is not the electricity itself. So, in the Bible “power” is described in so many of its forms, but, the origin is the Person and not the thing we “see” as expressing the Power. And, Who is that Person?
“But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.” 1Cor. 1.24
The above quote is a primary statement of truth. Jesus does not have the power of God – rather He is the power of God. He is the “electricity” expressed as “light”.

THE POWER II
The term “subtil” is used to describe the serpent [satan] in Genesis. “Subtil” or “subtle” means elusive or difficult to detect or grasp – and so he is. As a matter of fact you will almost never recognize his work - he’s that good. And, I might add, Who do you think gave him that ability? Actually, most things and events that he authors seem just the opposite of how we think about satan - “And no marvel; for satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” 2 Cor. 11.14
So – what influence does satan have on our understanding of power? – much indeed and that influence is subtle to the point of being undetected. He encourages us to think and believe there is more than one power in the universe and that these powers fight each other with some uncertainty as to which side will win.
The reality is that there are not two [or more] competing “powers” in the universe, although there are those who “need” you to believe that. Later, we will discuss who they are. But the truth is there is only One power in the universe. Anything or everything that appears to be a “power” is an expression of Him. We assign “good and bad” connotations, but those labels are arbitrary and incorrectly based upon a misconception that there is a duality of power.

THE POWER
Why do I say “power” as if it is singular? Aren’t there many powers? Aren’t there good powers and evil powers? I doubt it. Aren’t we – the good guys [Jesus, us and the angels] – at war with the bad guys [satan and his demons]? Isn’t it a toss-up who wins? If we don’t fight we lose, right? Sounds like nonsense right? Sometimes, however, on Sunday morning it sounds real.
Is power a “thing” or is power a Person? Does anyone control “power”? Can anyone control “power”? I think there is much confusion about what exactly “power” is and who controls it. The church is largely confused on this point and so are many who “attend” church.
Before we actually talk about “power” let’s discuss why there is so much confusion about this and really, about so many topics of such great interest.
There is one created being whose has a specific job to confuse and lie – satan. We are first introduced to satan in the Garden - he appears as a serpent. He is described as “… the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made.” Gen 3.1

Rees Howells - Standing in the Queue by Norman Grubb
Meanwhile, Mr. Howells had written to Mr. Albert Head, who was chairman of the South Africa General Mission, as well as being chairman of the Keswick and Llandrindod Conventions, and offered for the mission field. He told him about the healing of his uncle and Joe, and he received a letter from Mr. Head asking him to come up to London and meet the Council of the mission, and to bring Joe with him.
The morning they left for London, he and Mrs. Howells only had ú2, and she needed money that very day. But, as usual, “First need, first claim.” As he was going before the post arrived, he had the claim on the money, and he comforted his wife by saying that more would be sure to come in the post! Joe and he arrived in London with only five shillings, having taken single fares. Mr. Howells met the Council the next evening, and he and Mrs. Howells were accepted for the field. A meeting had been arranged for him the following day by Mr. Head, where he was to speak on intercession. The Lord blessed, and when he left the day after, as Mr. Head shook hands with him, he said, “The Lord has been speaking to me through you. I have never ‘kept’ a missionary before, but God has told me to keep you as my missionary. No one else is to support you, and while you are preaching in Africa, I will share in the harvest!”
Before they took their return train, they had lunch with some friends, and as they left, an envelope was put into Mr. Howells’ hand. When he opened it at Paddington, there were five golden sovereigns inside. They had arrived with five shillings, but were leaving with five pounds! “The Lord has only done for us what he did with the water that was turned into wine,” Joe remarked. “He has just changed the color!” They had a praise meeting when they arrived home, Mrs. Howells telling how the ú2 came half an hour after he had left. “There is nothing in the world better for strengthening one’s faith than testings]” was Mr. Howells’ comment.
Later, they .both left for Scotland, where Mrs. Howells was to take a year’s training in the Faith Mission. Shortly afterwards, he left her there and went on to London for a nine months’ medical course at Livingstone College. Here again there were many trials of faith, and deliverances. His special friend at the College, with whom he had close fellowship in the Spirit, was Mr. Harold St. John of the Brethren, who became well known later as a Bible teacher. They used to get up at five o’clock each morning to wait on God, knocking on the wall between them to wake each other. Meanwhile, Mrs. Howells had all her needs supplied in Scotland; Mr. Howells never once had to send her anything. “We were in the school of faith,” he said, “and there is nothing to be compared with having to be delivered to keep you abiding: you will never do it without.”
On one occasion he only had a few days in which to get ú20. This was needed for Mrs. Howells’ admission to a maternity course in the City Road Hospital, for which she was coming down to London. There was another student, a Cambridge graduate, who had been saying openly that he had never prayed a prayer that had brought a direct, definite answer. So, Mr. Howells invited him to join in this prayer for ú20. He had never heard of praying for money like that and expecting it to come. They were to pray for two hours one afternoon, each in his own room. The young man was exhausted at the end of it! he had never known time go so slowly; he said the two hours were like two months! Mr. Howells did not pray through in ‘the afternoon, so suggested that they should go back for a further two hours in the evening. “What!” exclaimed his friend, “four months’ hard labor for £20!” However, he agreed to try again if Mr. Howells thought he could be of any help. Before the end of this second period of prayer, Mr. Howells went to his room, and said, “You don’t need to pray any more, I am through.” “Have you got the money?” he said. “No, but I have got the faith, and the money will come.” Late that night they were taking a walk together, when this student suddenly stopped, leant against a fence and roared with laughter. “What are you laughing at?” Mr. Howells asked. “I was just thinking of the chap who will have to give that ú20.” He had seen it. Two days later Mr. Howells received two ú10 notes. What a blessing it was when he went to his friend’s room and held them up for him to see! It became quite a habit of the Principal of the College to invite Mr. Howells in to tea whenever he had any special visitors, and ask him to relate some of his experiences of faith.
Some people wondered why Mr. Howells studied medicine, after the Lord had given him such wonderful eases of healing. But the point was, as has already been mentioned, that he never was opposed to medicine. The principle he had found in a life of intercession was that “man’s extremity is God’s opportunity”, and most of the cases he had were when medicine had failed. Commenting on this, Mr. Howells said that he had only refused to give medicine in one case, and that was when Samuel was born and his wife was gravely ill. The Lord had told him she was not to take medicine. “What a test it was!” he said. “It was a fight of faith for me and a fight with death for her. I never shook in my position. The one thing I knew was that the Lord told me. I said to my wife, ‘You are not to take medicine, and you are not to die.’ At our extremity, in our reading one morning, the words ‘Have faith in God’ stood out in golden letters. We believed, and from that moment she began to get well.”
On the general subject of medicine and faith, Mr. Howells said: “To tell other people not to take medicine, when we are not sure of our guidance, is nothing less than tragedy, if they die. But I know of cases where people were guided not to take medicine and had victory all through their lives. One was Lord Radstock, who gave me many instances of how the Lord had honored faith. Another was A. B. Simpson, the founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, who proved over and over again that there is healing in the Blood. In cases of giving medicine, it depends wholly on guidance; if the Holy Ghost leads a person not to give it, He will be sure to make up for it. We were both guided to take a course in nursing and medicine, and the proof was that the Lord had to answer prayer to enable us to do so. After we had finished our training in Edinburgh and London, the Lord opened the way for me to be a dispenser with a doctor for six months, and my wife to take a maternity course, both of which proved most useful on the mission field.”
About a week before they sailed, they received money from the mission to pay their expenses to London, but they needed some things to complete their outfit, and once again the rule was applied — first need, first claim. “There is always a tendency to keep money, so as to get out of God’s testings,” said Mr. Howells, “and we tried our best to do it this time! Anyway, we had to spend the money, and all the people of the place thought we were well supplied. So we were, up to that week, and we thought money would be sure to come the day before we were to leave for London; but the last post came and no money, and our train was leaving before the post next morning. We thought it would be very hard to say good-bye to my uncle and aunt and little Samuel, but the burden for the train money made the parting a little easier! That is often the way with the Lord; when we have a very hard thing to do, He will burden us in another way to make the former one easier.
“Next morning, it was not so hard to part with our parents, because we had to walk to the station without the money! We felt sure that it would come on the station platform, but no, the time came for the train to leave. What were we to do? There was only one thing possible. We still had ten shillings, and we must go as far as we could with it, then our extremity would be God’s opportunity. We had to change trains at Llanelly station, about twenty miles from our home, and wait there a couple of hours;” so without letting anyone know, we only booked as far as that. There were many people at our home station wishing us all the good things, but what we needed was money to go to London! Many also came as far as LIanelly, singing alt the way. The thought that came to me was, ‘I’d sing better if I had the money!’
“We went out to breakfast with some friends at Llanelly, and there walked back to the station still not delivered; and now the time for the train had come. The Spirit then spoke, to me and said, ‘If you had money what would you do?’ ‘Take my place in the queue at the booking office,’ I said. ‘Well, are you not preaching that My promises are equal to current coin? You had better take your place in the queue.’ So there was nothing I could do except obey. There were about a dozen people before me. There they were passing by the booking office one by one. The devil kept on telling me, ‘Now you have only a few people in front of you, and when your turn comes, you will have to walk through. You have preached much about Moses with the Red Sea in front and the Egyptians behind; but now you are the one who is shut in.’ ‘Yes, shut in,’ I answered, ‘but, like Moses, I’ll be gloriously led out!’ When there were only two before me, a man stepped out of the crowd and said, ‘I’m sorry I can’t wait any longer, but I must open my shop.’ He said good-bye and put thirty shillings in my hand! It was most glorious, and only a foretaste of What the Lord would do in Africa, if we would obey. After I had the tickets, the people who came with us to the train began to give gifts to us, but the Lord had held them back until we had been tested. We were singing all the way to London!”
On their arrival, Mr. Head asked them to breakfast the next morning. He then told them that he had ú50 for them, but he didn’t post it. “Thank God, you didn’t,” said Mr. Howells, adding to himself, “I wouldn’t have been without the test in the queue for anything.”
They had all their outfit except three things: a watch, a fountain pen, and a raincoat each. They had never mentioned these things to anyone, but at breakfast Mr. Head asked, “What kind of watches have you?” and told them that his son, Alfred, wanted to give them a watch each. He then asked, “Have you prepared for the rainy seasons in Africa? Have you got good rain-coats?” When they said they hadn’t, he told them to go and get one each, and wrote down an address on a card, saying that they were to get them at his expense.
After writing the address, he asked, “Have you seen this kind of fountain pen?” “No,” they replied. “You must take one each with you,” he said — the three things they had named to the Lord, he named to them!
Mr. Head asked them to come to breakfast the following morning again and to take prayers. He suggested that Mr. Howells should tell the servants a little of his experiences of faith. “You used to have a life of faith, some time ago, didn’t you?” he said. “Yes, and quite recently too,” answered Mr. Howells, and told them about standing in the queue. Mr. Head could hardly breathe, waiting to hear how he got out of it. “I have never heard anything like it,” he exclaimed; but Mr. Howells told them he hadn’t finished yet, and that what had happened at Corrie Lodge the previous day in that very. room was better still; and he told them the story of the watches, raincoats and fountain pens. “I prefer this to ú1,000 said Mr. Head; “to know that the Lord can guide me like this in my giving.”
So they left England on July 10, 1915, after a glorious victory, knowing that the One who had called them into this life was able to deliver in all circumstances.

Why I read OUT ALOUD by Tony Maden
I read OUT ALOUD because I can not help myself. I remember hearing from the Lord around 2004 that I should stand in the market place and read His Word aloud. At first I thought this meant like speaker's corner in London, but in downtown Kansas City, and that might still be a time for that, but I know and see this meant to share His word through His offspring through podcasting on this site, by reading other peoples outpourings. I used to chide Fred Pruitt about reading his writings out aloud, but Fred had it in him to write - reading out loud is one of my passions, like writing is Fred's. Foolishly at one time I used to think life was either, or, but its clearly both. We learn in different ways, by reading the written word, by hearing audio, by doing. I tend to listen over and over and over and over, chewing on the words, then voila, bob's your uncle, many Ah-ha moments came by repeated listening. Gold nuggets came forth, if I listened repeatedly. And have an audio was available for others to hear too. This site has about 125,000 visits since 2007, and 50,000 downloads, people planet wide have heard the Word of the Lord go out in different forms!!! Amazing. So that's why I read OUT ALOUD.
Excerpt from Living in the Light by Fred Pruitt
What I have also experienced is that, in God, the temptations, anguish and chaos of the world continually assault us. Nonetheless, it is also all swallowed up in the Cross, so that the release from this chaos and death we continually experience, is also continually coming out in resurrection and victory. The manifestation of the Light, built upon the anguish and darkness, comes out more radiant, more beautiful, more glorious on the other side. And through this continually occurring process, we learn to live in the Light, not in the anguish. The “anguish” is the process, and comes and goes. But the Light is always there. It is an absolute.
Let me put it in a brief nutshell. When we live in the Spirit of Jesus Christ, Life originates from the Eternal within us, where we live by a different framework from our old life. In the old life, we are defeated daily by the temporal realities, because we think that this unrest – violence, sin, whatever – is the only thing there is. Therefore, all our focus is continually on the temporal to “fix it,” to make it better, or “avoidance,” to escape from it. In a temporal world, things are happening 1-2-3 in sequence, so that everything appears disharmonious, and we cannot see through to the end result. We are stuck in time.
However, in the Spirit, God, “All in all,” is our reality. As we are seasoned through life, disappointing though it is, we learn that the anguish continually returns to find a foothold in us. We are continually assaulted, as I stated above. If we could clearly see with eternal eyes, into time, we would see as Elisha saw when his servant Gehazi could not see. Gehazi could only see the enemy army encamped fully around their city, and was undone in fear. But Elisha prayed that his eyes would be opened, and when Gehazi’s eyes opened, he saw an even greater sight than the fearful army that besieged them. He saw the whole host of heaven on horses and chariots of fire, surrounding the enemy army. (2 Kings 5:14-17). Here, then is the contrast. Elisha saw through the manifestation of evil to the chariots of fire round about. The servant could not see the heavenly host, even though they were already there. However, once his eyes were opened to the Eternal, then he really saw! And it is the same with us.
Now we see, that even though the darkness, anguish and chaos come, which we feel and experience in the depths of our humanity, nonetheless, through the Cross of Jesus, all the death, anguish and chaos are continually swallowed up in Him in us. So that by that operation of death, comes the also continual and Eternal manifestation of heaven. In other words, the death (which we experience in the temporal) is continually swallowed up ETERNALLY by the operation of the Cross, and are submerged, and in a real sense, not seen in God the Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Though there is the anguish, it is eternally swallowed up in the Cross and the manifestation of God as The Light, Word, The Way, and finally the manifestation of Heaven in us. So what we end up with is that there is no anguish in God, nor in us, because we are in Him!
Though we may despair that the day will never come, there does come one day a “fixedness” of relaxation in the Light side, the Resurrection side. “O God, my heart is fixed,” as the Psalmist said. (Ps 57:7; 108:1; 112:7). There does come that day. John Bunting calls it the day of graduation. We DO graduate! We live in the Light, as He is the Light, and we KNOW it!
Rich Novek - His Perfect Plan
Referring to the parable of the Prodigal Son, this amazing story from start to finish had to be the Fathers perfect plan all along. Especially when we see how this story of (seeming) tragedy, loss, and deprivation really ends up being about revelation, redemption, and restoration!
It sure couldn't have been the devil sending him out on this wild journey, could it?
I just can't see the devil devising a plan which amounts to a young and arrogant, self absorbed, and spiritually clueless spoiled brat...to finally grow up IN the Grace and wisdom of God, anymore than I can see the same devil working independently of God to deal with the hearts of the likes of David, Job, or Paul!
And guess what folks? That list of names still continues today, and has according to His plan traveled all the way through history to where it NOW includes both you and me!
So has your own checkered history of brokenness, loss, and deprivation come by the hand of a cruel, distant, and impersonal child abuser?
OR...
Has EVERYTHING we have experienced on this chaotic journey been about something BIGGER He is NOW doing IN us, so that we can KNOW Him IN the same way as we are known by Him?
But whatever were gains to me I NOW CONSIDER LOSS for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider EVERYTHING AS LOSS because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I HAVE LOST ALL THINGS. I consider them garbage, THAT I MAY GAIN CHRIST and be found IN Him not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through Faith IN Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of (His) Faith IN me). I want to know Christ—yes, to know the POWER of His resurrection and participation (fellowship) IN His sufferings, becoming like Him IN His death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 3:7-11
I can't see any entity of darkness working IN and through His body this way, especially independent of the God of ALL Grace, can you? After all, as the one who's one and only goal is to see us completely destroyed, wouldn't that actually be counter productive to his very character and nature?
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and NOT TO HARM YOU, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
So looking at our lives, as chaotic as they may look today, they are in fact exactly like the lives of David, Job, Paul, or the younger son; the perfectly designed and orchestrated hidden workings of Christ IN us and as us!
So IN knowing the One is the Truth, we can NOW RELEASE what we are holding on to, REST IN His unconditional Love, and RECEIVE the next thing, good or bad, and whatever that may be, as He continues to work out in detail...His perfect plan!
Open the Trenches
“Ye shall not see wind, neither shall you see rain, yet that valley shall be filled with water, that you may drink, both you, and your cattle, and your beasts. And this is but a light thing in the sight of the Lord: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hands” (2 Kings 3:16-18).
To human thinking it was simply impossible, but nothing is hard for God.
Without a sound or sign, from sources invisible and apparently impossible, the floods came stealing in all night long; and when the morning dawned, those ditches were flooded with the crystal waters, and reflecting the rays of the morning sun from the red hills of Edom.
Our unbelief is always wanting some outward sign. The religion of many is largely sensational, and they are not satisfied of its genuineness without manifestations, etc.; but the greatest triumph of faith is to be still and know that He is God.
The great victory of faith is to stand before some impassable Red Sea, and hear the Master say, “Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord,” and “Go forward!” As we step out without any sign or sound–not a wave-splash–and wetting our very feet as we take the first step into its waters, still marching on we shall see the sea divide and the pathway open through the very midst of the waters.
If we have seen the miraculous workings of God in some marvellous case of healing or some extraordinary providential deliverance, I am sure the thing that has impressed us most has been the quietness with which it was all done, the absence of everything spectacular and sensational, and the utter sense of nothingness which came to us as we stood in the presence of this mighty God and felt how easy, it was for Him to do it all without the faintest effort on His part or the slightest help on ours.
It is not the part of faith to question, but to obey. The ditches were made, and the water came pouring in from some supernatural source. What a lesson for our faith!
Are you craving a spiritual blessing? Open the trenches, and God will fill them. And this, too, in the most unexpected places and in the most unexpected ways.

We finished our trip together, our little group of four. John Bunting, John Fautley, Boyd Williams, and I all arrived at our homes tonight after stopping at various friend's houses and groups in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. I want to give a better account of that later. But for now I wanted to get out this audio recording from this past Monday night. John Fautley, from England, traveled much this same route with us last year, and came along as a surprise to us this year. We enjoy every minute with John. On Monday night, at a friend's house in Overland Park, Kansas, he gave this astounding talk. This is a tremendous explanation of the truth of "The Renewing of your Mind." I've rarely heard anything of this depth and obvious love. Please give it a listen. Fred.

Receiving the Promise

The New Testament, that is, the coming of Jesus Christ in the fullness of time to “take away the sin of the world” and restore all who believe unto sonship in God, is the fulfillment of the Lord God’s promise given at the very moment of our fall: that God would send the “Bruiser of the serpent,” and bring us again into Himself (Gen 3:15; Luke 15:11-24).

Our inner life is our true life.
The immediate temptation in hearing that is, "What about the outer life?" The thought that all of life is only what is true in the hidden and invisible, is instantly suspect. Someone may say, "My inner life is my real life," but to some ears that can only sound like a copout on life. It sounds like a pile of malarkey. The messages were lively and perhaps this was how the messages were delivered in the early church - down to earth, practical, applicable, simplicity, easily understood by young and old, new and mature Christians and total freedom in spirit. Even a new comer or a seeker will not find themselves out of place. It was a fresh revelation to us and we look forward to seeing you next year.

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, To Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions. (1Ti 1:1-7)
The most subtle influence satan has on the believer is not temptation to do evil, but rather temptation to do good. The temptation to live by a set of ethics, morals and values and focus on self-improvement is by far the most effective method the wicked one has to keep the believer from realizing union with the Father. Let us then see by faith our union with the Tree of Life -- Jesus -- and refuse the temptation to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
