An exhibition of finely detailed allegorical paintings, drawings and prints by Lucia Pedri opened at the Galleria Comunale in Barga Vecchia this afternoon.
We published a conversation with Lucia Pedri back in 2013 where she talks about some of the reasons behind why she makes her work and although it was at another exhibition of her work in Castelnuovo and was recorded more than 5 years agouti is still very relevant to understand her working methods today.

In May of this year, Riccarda Bernacchi and Lucia Morelli wrote as their introduction (article here) to the presentation of the new menu at the Locanda di Mezzo – a menu should tease the senses, especially smell and taste. however, when artworks and artistic photographs of mouthwatering dishes are added, sight becomes involved as well, as do the hearts and souls of viewer and creator.
The menu at la locanda di mezzo is an artist’s menu, reminiscent of the artist’s book, a genre with techniques in its own right as first propounded by william Blake between the eighteenth and the nineteenth centuries. as if there were a common thread binding the countries across the channel with Barga, four artists – Fabrizio Da Prato, Giorgia Madiai, Keane, and Stefano Tommasi – are enhancing a sophisticated oenogastronomic search through their art.
The new menu is printed in different copies, each containing a unique creation born from the imagination of the artists and the chef.
In that article it was also written that “Art is everywhere at la locanda, seducing the public from the cellars to the lavatory and in the dining room and Giorgia Madiai who is also the curator intends to promote this undertaking with other artists as well.
This morning precisely that took place with the presentation on the new winter menu prepared by the chefs, Francesco Piacentini & Lorenzo Boschi from the Locanda, this time with work from Nicola Salotti.

The very successful bed and breakfast establishment Casa Fontana run by Ron and Susi Gauld in Barga Vecchia celebrated the end of their summer season this evening with a party in the gardens of the house for many of their friends here in Barga.
As you can hear in the short interview below with Ron, it has been a good solid season which although started late with some wet weather early on then developed into a great 2018 and bookings are already coming in for 2019.
The main star of the party was once again without a doubt, the traditional pig roast.

Helen Bellany, twice married to the artist John Bellany, recalls their lives together in Scotland, London, and Italy, John's rise from poverty and obscurity to worldwide recognition, and the human cost inherent in creating great art. The sea was in both their hearts and in John's work from its earliest stages. From there, he deepened into a profound exploration of the human condition. The Restless Wave reflects the mystery, poetry and passion that was at the core of the inner life John and Helen shared. The couple had great friendships with such fellow artists as David Bowie, and John painted such internationally known figures as Billy Connelly, Sean Connery and Peter Maxwell Davis, as well as many portraits of his muse, Helen.

Karen Campbell is a Scottish writer of contemporary fiction. Her first four novels are police procedurals, set in Glasgow, featuring Sgt. Anna Cameron and Cath and Jamie Worth. Her fifth novel, published in 2013, breaks away from the crime series.It tells the story of Abdi, a Somali asylum-seeker newly arrived in Glasgow with his young daughter, and of recently widowed Deborah, who has been assigned as mentor to help them settle in. The novel was selected as the BBC Radio Four Book at Bedtime in April 2013.
She was born in Paisley and brought up in Glasgow. Both her mother and father worked in Strathclyde Police, and following a degree at Glasgow University, she also joined the police, where she met her husband.
Karen studied for the Creative Writing master's degree at Glasgow University. She is a vegetarian and lives in Galloway with her husband and two daughters.

Day two and the lessons started in earnest in various studios around Barga Vecchia.
A Cape Breton square set is a form of folk dancing, done in several parts (known as figures), traditionally in sets of four couples, each element of the figure being repeated four times (hence the designation “square” set). Square sets are danced throughout Cape Breton, each with its own local variation, but the Inverness County square set as it exists today is comprised of three figures, danced to accompanying music in the tempos of two jigs and a reel.

Il Festival barghigiano è stato inserito per il 2018 nel progetto Borghi Swing, un’iniziativa ideata e promossa da I-Jazz (l’associazione che riunisce alcuni tra i più noti e seguiti festival jazz italiani) con il sostegno del MiBAC. Protagonisti sette festival jazz in tutta Italia – rassegna Jazz Visions, BargaJazz Festival, Peperoncino Jazz Festival, Fara Music Festival, Locus Festival, Udin&Jazz-Marano Lagunare, Etnica – e i borghi che li ospitano. Sette borghi selezionati per le loro caratteristiche storiche, paesaggistiche e culturali – Bagnolo e Racconigi (CN), Barga (LU), Diamante (CS), Fara in Sabina (RI), Locorotondo (BA), Marano Lagunare (UD), Vicchio (FI) – che da giugno ad agosto ospitano una programmazione di eventi che unisce musica, arte, natura ed enogastronomia.
Borghi Swing nasce per innestare nuove iniziative in luoghi dove la tradizione musicale è già forte, con l’obiettivo di rendere più efficace l’azione di valorizzazione di un territorio facendo leva sulla qualità, la sostenibilità e la promozione culturale. Le proposte di Borghi Swing includono: concerti di musica jazz, pop e world music; iniziative artistiche e culturali con visite guidate al patrimonio storico; percorsi nella natura ed escursioni in mare; viaggi nei sapori alla scoperta dell’enogastronomia locale. Esperienze che legano tradizione e sperimentazione all’insegna della musica di qualità e dell’eccellenza dei luoghi.

Museum of Strongholds and Defensive Walls of the Serchio Valley
The multimedia museum of strongholds and defensive walls is an innovative means of knowledge of a territory rich in thousands of years old history: High Serchio Valley.
Created by the collaboration of the Unione dei Comuni of the Serchio Valley and Pisa University, the museum combines centuries of knowledge and traditions with the most advanced technologies: through interactive means and an educational approach, the visitor can trace information, images and videos which illustrate the events, resources and the traditions of the Valley.
There are many and possible itineraries and in-depth analysis. One can admire imposing strongholds, many villages, their monuments, enjoy the beauties offered by nature and virtually get close to traditions and ancient crafts.
The museum, of which its setting up is constantly evolving , suggests to the public to deepen their knowledge of the Valley and give useful and immediate information for the visit of the territory.

A menu should tease the senses, especially smell and taste. however, when artworks and artistic photographs of mouthwatering dishes are added, sight becomes involved as well, as do the hearts and souls of viewer and creator.
The menu at la locanda di mezzo is an artist’s menu, reminiscent of the artist’s book, a genre with techniques in its own right as first propounded by william Blake between the eighteenth and the nineteenth centuries. as if there were a common thread binding the countries across the channel with Barga, four artists - Fabrizio Da Prato, Giorgia Madiai, Keane, and Stefano Tommasi - are enhancing a sophisticated oenogastronomic search through their art.
The new menu is printed in different copies, each containing a unique creation born from the imagination of the artists and the chef.
Art is everywhere at la locanda, seducing the public from the cellars to the lavatory and in the dining room, showing exhibits by Giorgia Madiai who is also the curator and intends to promote this undertaking with other artists as well.

The Barga prison opened its doors this afternoon and the authorities were less worried about people escaping and instead more concerned about the huge amount of visitors trying to get inside. It was open day at the Civic Museum with a guided tour of the recently restored prison cells.The Civic Museum is housed in the Palazzo Pretorio, which was built along with the underground prison during the first half of the 14th century. Palazzo Pretorio was the residence of the Podestà, the representative of Florentine power in Barga. The Podestà took part in council decisions, but his main role was to administer Law and Order.
The Podestà lived and worked on the upper floor and what is now the entrance to the museum was then the main hall where trials were carried out and sentences passed.Those found guilty of crimes were either hung or taken below and imprisoned.
Each cell has a double barred window and double wooden doors reinforced in iron with large bolts. At least two prisoners could be kept in each cell. The prison was also used in the early 1920’s and it is from that period that most of the prisoners scribbles and drawings inside the cells date. Two of the cells were reserved for female prisoners who had to be kept separate from the men.
Recent restoration work inside the prison has revealed another layer of graffiti from a much earlier period. The flaking plaster has been carefully removed in places to finally bring back to the light images with a religious content … images of The Madonna and St. Christopher, the Patron Saint of Barga . Experts are still working on trying to pinpoint a precise date for when the prisoners used the walls as their canvas and diary.

The Coro Puntaccapo is a mixed vocal group started in 2000.
Their name indicating their desire to explore musical horizons, a bit ‘out of the ordinary compared to those proposed so often in the current Italian music scene.
Among the groups that inspires them are the Manhattan Transfer, the Swingle Singers and the King Singers.

Domenica 11 Marzo, alle ore 17.30 il foyer del Teatro dei Differenti di Barga (LU) ospita 'Arti Differenti LIVE', lo speciale Live painting dell'artista di fama internazionale GIORGIA MADIAI.
Giorgia Madiai, fotografa e pittrice di origini livornesi, figlia d'arte, ispirandosi a 'La Vedova Scaltra' di Carlo Goldoni, che andrà in scena la sera stessa, realizzerà un’opera estemporanea sul tema della femminilità. Con lei, ad impreziosire l’evento, ci sarà Dimitri Grechi Espinoza, saxofonista jazz livornese di fama internazionale.
L'evento sarà aperto dalla straordinaria esibizione del Gruppo l'Edicola.
Con la partecipazione della Commissione Pari Opportunità che sarà presente per sensibilizzare contro la violenza alle donne.
Un filo rosso, conduttore unico, che racconta il tema del femminile e collega tre diversi sistemi, quello visivo espresso dall’arte di Giorgia Madiai, quello musicale, di accompagnamento, e quello verbale che si esemplifica attraverso la narrazione teatrale.
“La vedova scaltra”, scritta nel 1748, è un testo di passaggio tra la commedia delle maschere e la commedia di carattere e costituì una novità per il pubblico, soprattutto per il nuovo modo di concepire i personaggi. In particolare è per noi interessante la figura di Rosaura, trionfo della femminilità, donna forte e di carattere; figura nella quale ci si può rispecchiare ancora oggi perché presenta quella sensibilità e quell’intuizione che appartengono all’universo femminile. Rosaura, contrariamente alle convenzioni, si ribella al padre e si oppone alle nozze della sorella con un vecchio e, per sé, “sceglie” di scegliere il suo uomo.

nasce a Livorno nel 1971. E’ figlia d’arte che dal padre, il pittore Mario Madiai, ha imparato prima di tutto a guardare e a fare tesoro di quanto succede intorno a sé. Entrata come pittrice all’Università Middlesex di Londra, ne esce nel 1999 come fotografa. Si concentra prevalentemente sulla stampa, che negli anni raffina con degli acidi particolari e con le carte più idonee a raggiungere gli obiettivi ai quali tende. Dopo essere stata chiusa per anni in camera oscura, nel 2005 incontra Paolo Garzella, il maestro che la inizia alla fotografia digitale: un mondo che tuttavia, ha aperto le porte a fin troppi sedicenti artisti e alle loro idee geniali. Giorgia si considera un po’ come un’artigiana: una fotografa all’antica che guarda alle sue opere come se fossero dei quadri. Oggi è artista poliedrica che lavora in bilico tra pittura, installazioni, performance, fotografia. Il lavoro che le appartiene di più è quello sul carattere femminile. Le piace osservare le altre donne: guardarle, studiarle, dare loro la confidenza necessaria a catturarne il lato erotico. Recuperare quella bellezza e quella certa femminilità ormai quasi scomparse che hanno lasciato il posto a stupide veline e immagini di donne irreali con ben poco da dire. Il mondo femminile è un universo ricco e complesso che Madiai racconta anche in funzione di un rapporto di amicizia che la lega alla maggior parte dei suoi soggetti. Già assistente fotografica presso lo studio di Michael Harvey, espone in diversi paesi in Italia e all’estero, tra cui Londra, Polonia, Germania, Grecia, Milano, Torino, Firenze, Pisa, Livorno, Barga (Lu).
Il suo Studio, in Via del Pretorio 4 a Barga, è un contenitore creativo dentro al quale Giorgia Madiai orchestra stimolanti ed imprevedibili opere collettive, l’ultima delle quali l’ha vista accanto ad un ospite d’eccezione, il padre Mario Madiai.
Alle 21 Francesca Inaudi e Gianluca Guidi calcheranno il palco del Differenti con la loro interpretazione de 'La vedova scaltra' di Goldoni.

Tenente e nella sua lunga carriera di investigatore è stato insignito con varie onorificenze, tra cui Cavaliere della Repubblica, la Medaglia Mauriziana e gli sono stati concessi vari encomi per meriti di servizio.
Il romanzo sarà presentato ed analizzato insieme allo psichiatra Mario Betti.

Today the 9th December 2017, the second room of the Multimedia Museum of the Rocche e Fortificazioni della Valle del Serchio - Rocche and Fortifications of the Serchio Valley opened to the public in the Volta dei Menchi in Barga Vecchia.
The museum was opened in 2015 (article here) and according to well informed sources, 4 million euro was initially spent and another 2 million later on an ambitious project the “Bacino Culturale della Valle del Serchio” – a multimedia virtual museum of the castles, fortresses, walled villages and medieval bridges of the Serchio Valley – Museo multimediale delle Rocche e Fortificazioni della Valle del Serchio.
The project has been funded by public money and by the Fondazione Monte Paschim di Siena and Fondazione Cassa Risparmio di Lucca, ARCUS SpA in collaboration with the University of Pisa.

AGE OF WONDERS MAYA IWABUCHI I TOM POSTER PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA I STUART STRATFORD Age of Wonders, a voyage in music by Michael Stimpson, was written to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin. Now masterfully recorded by the Philharmonia Orchestra, the full evolution from violin and piano, through string quartet, string orchestra, and to complete as a work for full orchestra can be heard in its entirety under the baton of conductor Stuart Stratford.
Violinist Maya Iwabuchi and pianist Tom Poster bring to life Darwin’s early life in The Man Who Walked With Henslow, while Maya, Fiona Cornall, Nicholas Buttiman, and Karen Stephenson of the Philharmonia Orchestra expertly perform the string quartet, The Beagle. The ‘Englishness’ of Darwin’s home, Down House is expressed in the work for string orchestra, An Entangled Bank, named after the famous quotation by Charles Darwin. Transmutations, for full orchestra, finally brings together the evolving threads, motifs, patterns, and mutations into four orchestral variations, closing Age of Wonders with a reflection of the opening work for violin and piano.
The music is added to on the second CD by the inspirational readings of Darwin by the late Robert Tear, Ruth Padel reading some of her poems also written for the Darwin anniversary, other interviews, and even recordings of Darwin’s finches used in the music.

Francesco Martinelli was born in Pisa, Italy, in 1954, and graduated in chemistry at Pisa University. Since 1975 he has been involved in the promotion of musical events (the concerts of American bluesmen Cooper Terry and Don Cherry and the Frank Lowe Quartet). In 1976, he co-founded CRIM (Center for Research About Improvised Music). CRIM promoted the Pisa Jazz Festival and many other ad hoc events from 1976 to 1982, mainly concentrating on contemporary improvisation and jazz. Within CRIM, Martinelli published the Italian editions of books by Leo Smith (Notes: 8 Pieces) and Derek Bailey (Improvisation: Its Nature and Practice in Music), and several records (Improvisors' Symposium by Evan Parker, The Paul Rutherford Duo With Toni Rusconi, Pisa by the Maarten Altena Quartet, and Detto Fra Di Noi by the Alex von Schlippenbach Trio). After 1982, he promoted events for the town of Pisa, including La Nuova Onda, a festival of contemporary Italian jazz, as well as other festivals all over the country. In 1998 he began co-directing the Controindicazioni Festival in Rome and acting as a consultant for festivals and concerts all over the country. After planning and promoting a major three-day festival dedicated to the Italian Instabile Orchestra in December 1997, he produced a double CD for Leo Records documenting the event; the CDs were critically acclaimed worldwide, and the collaboration with the Italian Instabile Orchestra became an ongoing project, with promotion of a yearly Instabile Festival in Pisa. He was then appointed curator of the Siena Jazz Archive, the main resource of its kind in Italy, and also gave courses and lectures about the history of jazz, the philology and conservation of recorded sound, and music research through the Internet. He taught at the Summer School of Music of New York University in Italy for four years, giving a course on European improvised music and lecturing at New York University in New York. His writing has appeared in many magazines: the Italian Musiche (about Evan Parker, Anthony Braxton, and Sun Ra), Musica Jazz (about Billie Holiday, Lucky Thompson, and Anthony Braxton), Il Sismografo (the SISMA newsletter), Nerosubianco (the SISMA musicological review), the French Improjazz, the Canadian Coda, the Austrian Jazz Live, the English Avant and VJM, and the American Signal to Noise. His writing has also appeared in books like Mixtery: A Festschrift for Anthony Braxton, the Black Music and Blues Encyclopedia (Arcana), and the Italian Jazz Encyclopedia. His liner notes appear on CDs that are on labels such as FMP, Maya, Chronoscope, Braxton House, Splasch, Leo, Nuscope, and Soul Note. He did work on two major Anthony Braxton CDs: News From the Seventies (New Tone) and Small Ensemble (Wesleyan) 1994 (Splasch). His most recent CD production is Tales of Love and Death by the Eugenio Colombo Septet on Leo Records, a unique dramatic cantata of three sopranos and a jazz quartet. He has published the discographies of Evan Parker and Mario Schiano, and contributed to entries in Tom Lord's Jazz Discography. In March 2000, his Anthony Braxton Discography was published, which is the most complete resource book about one of the major figures of contemporary music. It includes an extended bibliography; appendices about web sources and movies; and detailed indexes of all musicians, record titles, original, and standard compositions in over 200 pages with 85 illustrations.

Memorial Mauro Malatesta Concerto di Ottoni e BargaJazz Big Band Domenica 18 giugno alle ore 21:00 presso il Teatro dei Differenti di Barga si terrà un concerto a scopo benefico dedicato a Mauro Malatesta. Trombonista storico della Barga Jazz Big Band, insegnante della classe di Tromba e Trombone dell'Istituto Musicale "L. Boccherini" di Lucca dove ha insegnato per ben 27 anni, Malatesta è venuto a mancare oramai 11 anni fa il 16 Giugno 2006 a soli 51 anni. Mauro Malatesta è nato e ha studiato a Firenze, successivamente si è perfezionato a New York con Larry Witmer. Nell'ambito della sua intensa attività solistica, cameristica, didattica e orchestrale sono da ricordare i concerti di musica da camera tenuti con il " Musicus Concentus " (trasmessi dal primo programma Rai), Master Class col laboratorio di Alessandria e le collaborazioni nazionali e internazionali, in qualita' di primo trombone, con l'orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra Internazionale d'Italia, Orchestra Scarlatti della Rai di Napoli, Orchestra Regionale Toscana. Diplomato anche in composizione ha alternato alla sua principale attività, la musica classica, arrangiamenti e esecuzioni discografiche nel mondo della musica leggera e jazz. Dal 1978 è stato docente della cattedra di Tromba e Trombone presso l'istituto musicale Luigi Boccherini di Lucca. Strettissimo anche il suo legame con Barga e con Giancarlo Rizzardi nella cui orchestra aveva iniziato a suonare da professionista nei primi anni '70. Il concerto di domenica è stato fortemente voluto dai suoi allievi, molti dei quali oggi affermati professionisti del mondo della musica classica e del jazz. Nel corso della serata si alterneranno vari ensemble di ottoni a cui parteciperanno tra gli altri Andrea Guzzoletti, Andrea Tofanelli, Claudio Rossi, Stefano Benedetti, Silvio Bernardi. Andrea Dell'Ira, Marcello Angeli, Marco Bartalini, Alessio Bianchi, Battista Ceragioli. Introdurrà la serata il Prof. Renzo Cresti per molti anni collega ed amico di Malatesta. In chiusura si esibirà la BargaJazz Big Band, formazione in cui Mauro ha militato per oltre 20 anni. L'ingresso è a offerta ed il ricavato sarà devoluto all'associazione Misericordia del Barghigiano.

A "sound poem" for Piazza Angelio, Barga (LU) Italy February 1999 by Keane
This is a site specific installation originally commissioned for Piazza Angelio but which has since grown into a piece of work involving most of Barga Vecchia. A computer, voice recognition software and a microphone were installed in the Osteria Angelio for one evening. The ambient sounds of people talking , drinking and eating within the Osteria were recorded, translated and printed onto paper sheets. The American voice recognition software had great difficulty coping with the mainly Italian voices, the music and the general ambient background sounds. What was finally printed onto the paper was a series of seemingly unrelated English words but if looked at in a lighter vein could be quite easily read as a kind of mixture between Dada and Haiku poetry. This generated text forms the basis for the sound poem. It was my intention to make an installation which harmonised with its surroundings, therefore not only did I use the actual sounds from these rooms as the basis for the content of the work, but I also used the straw coloured paper used to cover the tables for the form of the work. After working with this paper for a few days it reminded more and more of wrapping paper or paper for parcels. I had already delved into the world of paper and the future of paper for an exhibition in Finland last year "the death of paper". After consulting with the paper manufacture industry one of the points which they often raised was that paper as a packaging material was always going to be used. On a more personal level, I sent my years work, over 150 drawings and paintings to Finland packaged up in 30 paper packages. When they arrived in the gallery in Finland it struck me that the work was marginally more interesting whilst still in its packages. I thought then that in the future it might be interesting to make some work about packages and packets. The "sound poem" was just such an opportunity to experiment with this idea. The word "packet" was originally an early fifteenth century word meaning a small thin parcel, with the advent of computers and information technology, it now has a more modern meaning ; the movement of small fixed amounts of data across electronic communication networks. ( internet for instance could not function without it's packets )
The "sound poem" is not a finished complete work and hopefully should be viewed as a kind of light hearted visual game , an experiment in background music and text , after all , we are here to meet, talk and eat and not look at serious art, right ? ?

Epistenologia – ha proposto un modo diverso di avvicinarsi al vino, prescindendo dalla eventuale competenza o expertise; – non è un metodo di degustazione, anzi è anarchica e quindi chiede cura attenzione e responsabilità; – suggerisce di non lasciarsi dominare dalla testa, aprendosi a bisogni desideri e emozioni; – perora l’esplorazione, l’esposizione e lo stupore per ogni passo, e rifugge l’estetica del giudizio e della valutazione; – vede il vino come un essere vivente da incontrare e non come un oggetto da valutare; – va ben al di là del vino come tale, facendo un piccolo discorso forse ambizioso ma più complessivo sulla conoscenza, sulla saggezza e – addirittura – sulla vita; – ambisce a mettere in moto l’immaginazione e la consapevolezza delle nostre possibilità creative quando gustiamo: la percezione è un processo creativo. – disincrosta e libera.
Il 4 agosto faremo l’ultimo incontro prima della pausa estiva, a Barga, alla Locanda di mezzo, dove nel corso dell’evento Giorgia Madiai Fuchs disegnerà nel flusso di quel che accade.
Quel che accade di solito è potente e bello.
Quello che chiamo “Epistenologia” è un mezzo, probabilmente come un altro, di esplorare se stessi in rapporto alle possibilità percettive che fare qualcosa – nel caso, bere vino – ci offre e ci consente. Un modo di socializzare queste possibilità e, al contempo, di rendersi conto dei poteri dell’immaginazione e del linguaggio.
Ontologia ed epistemologia sono così mescolate: epistenologia. Non solo il sapere del vino, ma il sapere col vino costituito dalla spessa grana del tempo. La n dell’essere, gli onta, s’incastra nella conoscenza come scelta e fiducia (pistis). L’episteme sono onta, gli onta sono episteme: nessun relativismo in agguato, solo processi e relazioni su relazioni, testi come tessuti, grovigli di linee, dense temporalità, inaggirabilità dell’atmosferico. Ogni volta che comincio un workshop, ho qualche idea e suggestione su cosa farò; poi però la situazione, le persone presenti, la qualità emotiva, la partecipazione e il grado di empatia con loro mi fanno nascere altre suggestioni e proposte. Così, quando mi chiedono di “mandare il programma” della serata sono sempre molto riluttante perché non so come sarà il programma.
Questo tipo di lavoro è esito di un percorso per me non chiuso ma in pieno svolgimento. Non so dove porterà e mi porterà; so però, grazie a chi lo ha fatto, che funziona e che è pieno di senso. La sua natura sperimentale impedisce una codificazione; al tempo stesso rende la “comunicabilità” strettamente connessa al suo artefice, me, ma non perché io ne sappia di più. Il fatto è che Epistenologia è come fosse la concrezione di un vissuto che dice molto, e io non ne ero affatto certo, anche agli altri. – Nicola Perullo

This is the true story of a young boy’s holiday. In May 1940 nine-year-old Bernard Moscardini and his mother set off from Bedlington, Northumberland for a summer holiday in the tiny mountain village of Sommocolonia in Northern Tuscany.
Soon after their arrival Benito Mussolini declares war on Britain and France, and Bernard’s mother frantically attempts to arrange passage back to their home in England but, by now, all the frontiers are closed.
Thus begins the absorbing story of a child’s life in wartime Italy and his daunting experiences when Sommocolonia becomes the front line during the German retreat from Italy in 1944.
Through the eyes of a child, this is a tale of peaceful peasant life abruptly shattered by the rigours of war. It is also the story of a brave mother’s determination to return, against all odds, safely back home to England with her two children.

The bell ringers of Barga were out in force this weekend inspecting an extremely interesting relic from the past hidden from sight down in the cellars of the Barga Civic Museum.
What they were actually inspecting was none other than the original clock mechanism from the Duomo built in the 1800’s and which was in use up until the more “modern” clock mechanism was installed in the 1930’s.
Since then it has been left to its own devices and gradually rusting away hidden from view and practically forgotten about.
Not any longer – the campanari are now seriously thinking about renovating and restoring the clock and setting it back up in front of the public.

Anna Giardi, voce del duo, inizia la sua formazione come corista in gruppi genere Madrigale, gospel-spirtiual, rock, dalla fine degli anni ’80 proseguendo individualmente e dedicandosi allo studio del canto come solista. Musicalmente nasce e cresce ascoltando genere rock funk, pop, classica, progressive, country-folk (Beatles, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Supertramp, Simon & Garfunkel, Toto ed altri. Musica italiana cantautoriale ed interpretata (Mina, Mia Martini, Pino Daniele, Lucio Battisti, Lucio Dalla, Sergio Cammariere, ecc…).
Luca Bacconi, musicista, approda alla chitarra in giovane età e successivamente si dedica anche allo studio del basso elettrico. Dopo aver fondato le proprie esperienze musicali giovanili nelle rock band cittadine, ascolta e sperimenta diversi generi musicali. Il prodotto di tale contaminazione, che vede in primo piano il jazz e il blues, lo accompagna fino alla maturità artistica dove si dedicherà anche come cantautore e arrangiatore. Il suo ultimo lavoro, “Cantautori e gente da bar” è una raccolta di brani inediti e contiene un omaggio a Lucio Dalla e Polo Conte.

The band came together in the winter of 2009 when local musicians Alessandro Rizzardi (mandolino), Keane (Percussioni), Fabio Guazelli (chitarra), Leo Gnesi (contro bass), and Andrea Gonnella (cantante) found each other in Da Aristo’s enoteca, with instruments in hand, and exciting ideas in mind and of course, passion in heart.
The addition of Ugo Menconi (Accordion) completed the line up and a new type of swing group was born.

Farina di farro, di granturco e di castagne, presso la famosa pasticceria “Fratelli Lucchesi”.
Bambini divisi in due gruppi, alternandoli si è parlato di storia e tradizione dei tre prodotti e dimostrazione sulla trasformazione in diretta delle farine in biscotti, dal grande pasticcere Paolo Lucchesi.
Grande entusiasmo degli alunni e degustazione dei biscotti appena sfornati fatti con le tre farine.
Un grazie agli insegnanti per queste belle iniziative, a far conoscere ai ragazzi prodotti del nostro territorio.

There was a plume of black acrid smoke over Barga this afternoon as down at San Pietro in Campo just below Barga , one of the industrial units caught fire.
Three fire engines attended the blaze at the Metalfilms factory which was brought under control very quickly.
The main factory building was not touched by the blaze but a series of outbuilding and their contents were destroyed.

The trumpet and duduk of Andrea Guzzoletti playing in Milan all this week
A very successful first night in Milano last night at the Elfo Puccini theatre at the opening of the Haberowsky show.
The original was staged more than ten years ago but last night saw a new revitalised version with the actor, film director and singer Alessandro Haber playing reading, singing but mostly living texts and original poems by Charles Bukowski – the prolific underground writer who used his poetry and prose to depict the depravity of urban life and the downtrodden in American society.
Accompanied by the electronic music of Alfa Romero – the multi faceted duo of Prudo and Lorenzo Bartoletti and the trumpet and duduk* of Andrea Guzzoletti with visuals designed by Manuel Bozzi and Madlene India Sabin the evening was an impressive sound and immersive visual experience where technology, acting, music and love came together with a high emotional impact.
