The heartbeat to Behind the Bliss is to create a space for women to share stories and their reality of what life is really like behind the bliss so that listeners leave feeling met in their mess and balanced in the bliss. We seek to show women there is more to life than what we see on each other’s highlight reels and there is power in vulnerably sharing the hard parts with the pretty parts of our lives in hopes that they would share their stories on their own platforms, too.
Chaotic but heck of a lot of fun - Rachel brings you along on the weekend that she went to Sadie Robertsons Conference in Louisana, The Live Original Sister Conference. She brought one of her besties, Abby! They share everything from funny roadtrip stories, bits and pieces of what they learned, amazing takeaways that are sure to blow your mind and how you think about life, lots of laughs, snorts, and a curse word - oops!!

I am all about reflecting in finding the things in past seasons that are worth continuing or worth stopping in this episode it’s just that! A few ideas and thoughts that I have had over the past month, that I recorded in Voice Memos for you to listen to! Some are by myself on a whim, and others are thoughtful, and others are with friends! Welcome to the inside of my brain, basically.
Today’s guest, Heidi, has been through it! From cancer diagnosis to miscarriage and other worst case scenarios, she has a lot to say about doubting God when life gets tough. She understand what it’s like to ask the hard questions especially when dealing with faith. “God where are you?” “What are you up to?” “Why am I going through this?“ We bring these questions to the surface and so does she in her new book “PS it’s Gonna Be Good!”Shownotes: behindtheblisspodcast.com/shownotes/233
Imagine this like we're voice memo'ing in texts! Updates, random thoughts, things the Lord is teaching me all candid, not professional by any means and very "off the cuff."From one "voice message" queen to you!
In this episode, my best friend in real life, Abby joins me to chat all things, adult friendship, how we met, and why we didn’t get along well at first (LOL), the shows that we are currently living in, can recommend on Netflix, and more from this fashionista!!
Walking through emotional healing, spicy questions, Rachel's big work secrets shared, our first friend, hurt feelings, and somehow Thomas works in aviation into the conversation (go figure). ALL OF IT SHARED TODAY!
You read that right and I'm telling you everything: how I knew something was wrong, how I asked for help, what's been helping and an encouragement for you, too.Shownotes: behindtheblisspodcast.com/shownotes/229
Let's chat and catchup! We started a new business, Thomas is flying all over the world, Maddex is still the cutest toddler and Oliver is cackling! OH! And Rachel is now dairy free and all the things - it's a great time to be an Awtrey!
Emily Ley, Simplified Planner creator and routine queen, joins Rachel today to chat through morning routines, why they matter, how to show up best in your life and it is so much fun! She even shares her top 5, bottom 5 of a morning routine and a BIG SECRET she hasn't shared yet! WAHOO!Shownotes: behindtheblisspodcast.com/shownotes/227
This episode is a firey one with Cleere Reeves from Cleerely Stated! So much wisdom on what God is teaching her in this season of "just going for it." How do you know what to go for, what an "open door" looks like, making decisions out of peace instead of fear. We talk it all! Rachel also shares a life hack from a listener, Sydney, and her top Amazon purchases recently. It's a good one!
Today we're phoning our friends! Scarlet, from last week's episode, and I called up some of our mutual gal pals (and Thomas) and asked them what God has been teaching them and their answers are sooo good! We just had to share!
This week, Rachel is joined by one of her real life friends and "little sis" of Birmingham, Scarlet Stearns. Scarlet has a blog, Feel the Smile, has nine siblings and an incredible story of how she grew up in a group home, met Jesus and wants to share his Biblical truths with women everywhere. They also talk about snacks they love and crave, trends they like and dislike and a few other funny stories you'll need to hear!Shownotes: behindtheblisspodcast.com/shownotes/224
Break out your pastels, Easter decor and chocolate bunnies - it's time to prep our minds and hearts for Passion week! This episode, Rachel walks us through a few of her favorite sources, top Easter trends she loves, why the Easter Bunny is straight up creepy and phones a friend mid-episode.Shownotes: behindtheblisspodcast.com/shownotes/223
Emily is a twin mom now and Rachel is getting her feet under her and about to finish her "fourth trimester" so you could say that there's "babies on the brain" with our team around here. In this episode, we're introducing new segments, spilling the personal information and giving you details on our top 5 and bottom 5 baby products. Want more "motherhood" content?? Text MAMA to 33777 to hop on our motherhood email list!Shownotes: behindtheblisspodcast.com/shownotes/222Rachel on Instagram: instagram.com/rachel.awtrey
Life can be a bit hectic, we all know that! Rachel, especially knows that right now with living a life of two under two. It might not be easy, but it definitely doesn’t have to be extra hard! Today, we are talking five mind shifts that have changed the game, brought clarity, get rid of unneeded stress, and give us more margin to enjoy what’s around us.Shownotes: behindtheblisspodcast.com/shownotesRachel on Instagram: Instagram.com/Rachel.awtrey

Our girl, Rebekah Lyons, is back! If you know Rebekah then you know she's all about rhythms in your life, taking inventory of what's working and what's not and today she's sharing with us when and how to say yes to God in the legit surrendered way not the obligated, mopey "yes" that we often think or hear of. What if it was a joy to say yes to God. It might be for you, and that is amazing sis! But, many times, when we sit in quiet and ask what the Lord has for us, we can be frightened by his answer, confused by his answer or not hear his answer at all. If you feel like this, then this episode was made with you in mind. "A Surrendered Yes: 52 devotions to let go and live free" is Rebekah's news devotional and it is an amazing, practical way to walk through what we're talking about today.

Friend, let me tell you! There are so many things I remember experiencing and thinking “why did no one tell me about this part??” They’re not in movies, you don’t hear about them in birth classes, from friends until you experience them first hand. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s malicious and people mean to not tell you - I just think we all forget about those small details after the fact but they don’t seem so “small” when they’re happening to us. So, I asked my sister-friends on Instagram to share something they wish they had known before it happened to them and I’m rounding up the responses here! Just to preface, this is not a “lady-like” episode… we’re going there! Then again, what are big sisters for? Also, don’t fear these things happening! I didn’t experience every single one of them, just a few! But, I hope you read this and feel a bit more “normal” and kind to yourself than before :) we’re in this together!

Have you made mistakes in the past that continually haunt you? Maybe you're afraid of making similar mistakes in the future and it's all too consuming. At some point, the weight of these mistakes begins to weigh on how we view ourselves and the worth we find within. The all-too-familiar feeling of unworthiness becomes prominent, causing us to live from a place of fear and despair. But what if it chose to talk about it, rather than push it down? Today's guest, Eryn Eddy, gets it. In today's conversation, she shares with us how to trade this feeling for the truth that changes everything: you are valuable. I hear ya... there's a lot in the world you'd probably like to change and this past year brought many of these needed changes to our attention. But, how do we help? Like actually, practically help. Big ways or small, we're called to step in and offer hope, peace, and kindness to the world around us as Jesus did. Need a "next step" or some inspiration on how to? Meet my friend Amy Wolff in today's episode.
Amy Wolff, a busy mom, and small business owner, often felt this way--and didn't feel qualified to connect and uplift others. But one day, after hearing about several suicides and suicide attempts in her community, she printed 20 yard signs with hopeful messages and anonymously placed them throughout her city. This small action sparked a global movement of encouragement which lead to her new book, "Signs of Hope: How Small Acts of Love Can Change Your World."

Home. It is an elegant word, at once both simple and far-reaching. Home is a place to live in and feel comfortable, but it is much more than that.
Hey mama! Do you find yourself slightly cringing when someone asks what you do and you respond with "stay at home mom" or "homemaker"? We get it and are happy to have Carrie Gress on the show to hype you up, lift your spirits and give you a glimpse into why homemakers are the actual heroes. In this inspiring conversation about home, life, and family, Carrie wraps her arms around you, helps you re-establish your purpose in your home, and route you in the direction to create a safe and abundant space for you and your family.
Carrie and two other wives and mothers wrote an incredible book, Theology of Home, as a simple guide to help reorient all of us toward our true home, allowing us to think purposefully about how to make our own homes on earth better equipped to get all those living in them to the Father’s house. More on all of this in today's episode!

This one is for the girls that find themselves struggling with purpose. It's easier to "go through the motions" and not think critically about our next step, letting God speak into our moments and search for Him in everything we do. "We have enough on our plates, already? Right?" What if I told you that life could actually be easier, more full, and abundant when we lean into the intentional?! Today's conversation with Bethany Adkins opens up this idea. Bethany offers up the idea that when we walk in the intentional, make time for life-giving conversations and sit down and process, we can find a freshness to life. Bethany is the author of "My Why Journal" that you need to get your hands on if you're a mama!

Today my new friend Christy Wright is joining us to chat all about her new devotional, Living True: 40 Days to Get Back to You. Let me tell you - it is full of practical wisdom! Christy is a mama, a wife, works closely with Dave Ramsey, has written one of my other favorite books, "Business Boutique." Today, we're talking all about the truth about who God is, who you are, the truth about the season you're in right now, and why your future is hopeful. I feel like the word "hope" may be foreign to many of us because we've been "let down" recently. But, today's the day that we get our hopes up and cling to the truth to knowing who God is so that in return, we can know ourselves better and start feeling like ourselves again.

Most who have experience will readily agree: marriage is hard. But is it worth it? In a country where marriage gets a bad rap, it seems as though an exciting, loving, satisfying, Christ-honoring, lasting marital relationship is unattainable. With the holidays coming up, winter coming in full swing, and this OMG year of 2020, we really could use a reminder about what true rest is!
Chances are, you clicked play on this episode because you’re feeling tired, exhausted, and burnt out. Or, you’re close to it and you can tell somethings not right. Well, you’re in luck because today’s episode is going all in to the idea of rest: why we need it, how do we accomplish it and how do we combat burn out when it actually happens.
Who better to have a conversation with me than Dr. Saundra Dalton Smith?! She is incredible. She’s a scientist. Today, she’s giving us the ins and outs about how we were created and wired and why we need rest. this message is a lot different than the one that I feel like mainstream media is preaching to us today: get 8 hours of sleep, etc.
Dr. Saundra actually shares with us that there are seven different types of rest, not just “physical rest”. She shares the difference between laziness and rests and she also gives us some ideas about how we can find rest in our everyday lives. If you are curious about knowing your mind, your body, and your spirit better, how to honor all three to find rest so that you can be the best version of you that you’ve been called and commanded to be, this episode is for you!

One of my favorite topics to chat about is marriage! Here's why: there's a lot of messages that the world is screaming at us and there are not many places these false narratives are being combatted. Today we're talking fighting, sex, how to be invested and involved in one another, bad habits that you may be operating in. Today's guest, Jessica Hottle, is helping me tackle this conversation.
I was recently on Jessica's podcast, "What's The Truth Podcast," where we talked a bit about Thomas and my story, what we struggled with, how we encourage others to beat the struggle of the first few years of marriage.
This episode is almost a Part 2 to that episode. We dive a little deeper into things that Jessica and I wish we would have known in our first few years of marriage. If you're a bit curious about the nitty-gritty of marriage, funny stories, and "oh good, that's me too" moments, click play!

Today's society has helped us perfect the art of false guilt, and particularly as women, we have a tendency to guilt ourselves over so many things. Valorie Burton's message and new book, Let Go of The Guilt, helps to identify false guilt and gives practical advice and tools on how to free yourself from this trap, allowing us to live a more joy-filled and fulfilling life. So today, we're diving a bit deeper into where guilt comes from, particularly for women, and how it can plague our lives, leaving us feeling empty and unfulfilled. We unpack some of the contents of Valorie's book, pointing to a strong female voice who is hoping to leave you feeling empowered and seeking out change, breaking free from your own guilt.

She has a special message crafted to the friends that want to honor God with your "right here, right now" moments rather than look to her, or their, moments. We all have something that we're overcoming at the moment - are we not? With people posting the "best" and sharing the "highlight reel" of their life, it makes it pretty easy for us to think for a quick second that their life is better or as people say "the grass is greener on the other side." And on top of that, we're getting messages thrown at us to hustle and we might have the life they have or the one we want, if we work hard enough, if we do enough then we'll be enough. Today's guest, Jamie Ivey tackles these thoughts, messages and offers us something better. Jamie is also a podcast host of "The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey", and in today's episode, she encourages us to turn to God and away from our feeds, if we really want to discover our purpose and direction. And good news! Her new book, "You Be You" is out for you today! We'll talk about that, too!

What if the struggles of life aren’t a barrier to thriving but an invitation into your most vibrant days? Whether you feel weighed down by never-ending tasks, or you find yourself walking through your most difficult days, you might be left wondering if a vibrant life will ever be in your future. In today’s episode, Jennie Lusko, wife, mom, and author, shares part of her story filled with darkness and how God came in and invited her to flourish in the midst of the pain. When Jennie's five-year-old daughter, Lenya, died from an asthma attack five days before Christmas, Jennie didn’t know how she could keep going—in parenting, in leading, in faith. Her new book, The Fight to Flourish, uses her powerful story to show us that flourishing is not a far-off hope, but a very near reality. Jennie leads us to discover that true transformation comes not in spite of our struggles but because of them. They are the very ingredient God loves to use. You don’t have to have it all together for God to work. He just wants you.

I cannot wait for you to dive into today’s conversation with Diane Jago! She’s written a book called “A Holy Pursuit: How the Gospel Frees us to Follow and Lay Down Our Dreams” I don’t know about you but I feel like the world has thrown so many messages at me through Pinterest and Facebook and random jargon in the media. “Follow your heart.” “Follow your dreams.” While, yes, I want to agree with the message, I also have to know that my heart is fleeting. These desires of my heart have been given to me by the Lord first before I could have thought them up. What does the Bible have to say about this? Dianne Jago knows lots about this topic, has written a book about this topic, and has had a few dreams shifted in her own heart as well that’s lead her to be a chief editor of a magazine, Deeply Rooted Magazine. She shares her journey of how she got to this destination. She was okay with the Lord doing something different with her life than what she would have planned for herself.

In today’s episode, Mary Scott sits down with her friend Sarah Parker Mounce. Sarah Parker is a podcaster on her podcast "A Single Double Named Girl", and is also a single woman. Rachel and Mary Scott both knew that a lot of our audience would crave Godly wisdom from someone who has wrestled through and is wrestling through singleness and Sarah Parker offers such meaningful perspective on contentment in this episode. Her honesty and her bravery to tackle such difficult questions and topics, and her willingness to let the Lord use her even in a season she would never desire for herself is a true testament of her faith and trust in God. I pray that if you find yourself in a similar season of singleness and even just dissatisfaction from life, that you would be reminded of God’s truth. That He really and truly is working ALL THINGS for His glory and our good.

Dylan is a registered dietician who is on mission to free her clients from the curse of diet culture. Dylan practices a non-diet and Health at Every Size (HAES) approach.
Do you desire to be healthy but feel lost in the ever-changing world of food trends (looking at you quinoa and Keto Diet)? Does the thought of giving up your daily latte make your palms sweaty? Does "being healthy" in your mind mean spending hours in the kitchen chopping vegetables? Living in a world where a new diet or fitness trend pops up every 30 seconds, Dylan knows it can be misleading to determine what a healthy lifestyle entails. If you feel the pain, she is your girl.
In this episode we talk about diet culture and tips and tricks heading into the Holiday season with a plan to stay healthy and also enjoy this season! Can’t wait for you to listen!
