The Beatitudes are not just ethical teachings. They give us a glimpse into how Jesus is setting up His kingdom and of how it is different than the kingdom of this world.

These weren't just words for a good life. These weren't just words that we're good for motivational cards or posters. These were and are characteristics of those who were and would be citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus didn't speak out of a vacuum. He regularly referenced the OT. Why? Because the OT pointed to Him and what He would do and say and teach.

Jesus' entrance into ministry is not necessarily quiet and without fanfare. Crowds are flocking to him....and it's not just for a magic show. He's setting the stage for a major event. The question that he begins to ask though is this, "Which Kingdom are you in?"

Jesus gives an example of what it means to be someone in his Kingdom. Even at a teacher, or Rabbi, Jesus showed us the 'extent of his love" as he takes the position of a lowly and humble servant. He is King...but he serves his people. We are blessed if we do the same.

Here we find some skeptical believers wanting more information about this Jesus figure. They want to talk to him directly. Jesus encourages not only this search for information but also a decision to follow Him.
