I have been making my own video podcasts for my upper school chemistry students (www.meaghersclasses.podomatic.com) and physics students (www.meaghersphysics.podomatic.com) for the last year or so, and decided that it was time for my students to let loose their creativity and produce their own episodes. The podcasts that my year 10 general science students are producing will be posted here. (NOTE: If you can't see the images in these podcasts either download them and view with Quicktime Player, or simply subscribe through iTunes and get each new episode as it is posted.) Enjoy.
This science video podcast looks at how you can utilise a cheap telescope and a camera or video tripod to get a decent view of the heavens. This year is the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) and if you don't already own a telescope then you have the opportunity of purchasing a ridiculously cheap, good quality telescope, the Galileoscope, from www.galileoscope.org
This science video podcast describes the procedure for the investigation of the reaction between Mentos and Diet Coke.You will need to determine what aspect of the reaction you will investigate before you conduct your experiment. (eg will you compare diet coke to regular, diet coke to another diet cola, diet coke to another type of soft drink, smoothed (sandpapered)mentos to regular, effect of volume of cola or numbers of mentos to height of fountain, evidence for chemical or physical reaction etc). Sam, Omid and Baden have created some excellent animations to help explain Newton's Third Law in this physics video podcast. They look at rockets, jet aircraft and cannons and use them to explain that every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
Paulo, Rowan, Curtis and Sam have employed a very recognisable voice to help them explain some of the concepts that Einstein's theory of general relativity describes.
