Paul encourages the church to imitate the humility of Jesus and informs them that Timothy is a living example of being faithful to the gospel in God-ordained relationships.
In times like these I believe the Lord wants to remind us that He still desires us to be blessed in our character, every day life, and emotions.
In times like these I believe the Lord wants to remind us that He still desires us to be blessed in our character, every day life, and emotions.
Listen and receive on why Christians should not be ashamed of the Gospel in any circumstance.
Pastor Lauren Scienski preaches on the circumstances Jesus went through. Just like Jesus Christians today will go through the similar circumstances.
What did the British during the American Revolution have in common with the white slave owners during the Civil War and with the white racists leaders in the south during the Civil Rights movement and the Nazis in Germany? The all wanted the clergy to stay out of politics. If we don't know the past we're bound to repeat it. By God's grace, I want to remind the Christian people in this nation of our God-given place in government and political affairs.
Loving people can often times be easier said then done. We all have our own areas we can grow in but sometimes you may run into people who refuse to acknowledge their real issues and they may frustrate your passion for discipleship.
So for those who have desired to love people by making disciples and have run into some resistance this blog is for you! I pray that these basic ministerial life lessons can encourage you to keep loving people no matter how they act. Loving people shouldn’t be a burden, but the joy of hearts as we share in the love of Christ for His creation.
One of God's main attributes is love. His love is only second to His holiness because God's holiness is the foundation that defines all His subsequent attributes. God's love empowers us to love others and be free from all fear and imperfection. We are made complete in the cycle of God's love.
The resurrection of Jesus is not only a historical event in the past that Christians thank God for, but it is also the promise of a future event that all Christians are promised to participate in; mainly, receiving a new glorified body to dwell in God’s kingdom forever (Romans 8:28-30).
Disciples of Christ should be ready to face each and every season of life with a confidence that God is always in control (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). Remembering that all things are working together for their good- even sickness and death; Romans 8:28-30, “28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”
When we honor God’s design for the family, we will reflect His image upon the earth to everyone around us!
Pastor Jared Walker preached on the Gospel and a Christian Worldview. Based on today's generation lacking, the use of the whole Gospel.
God will speak to us how we understand. Be excited with what God is doing with your life.
Being A Faithful Servant by: Always seeing the Lord, Always seeing the harvest, Always seeing the need, and Always seeing the ministry.
Defeating The Devil and using Jesus as the prime example to over come: The Temptations of the eyes, The Flesh, and pride.
Joseph, from being a slave to imprisonment to a place of leadership. God blessing Joseph and the people around him.
Often times we think of the world in unbiblical terms and become deceived into believing the nature of the world is something different than what it truly is. May our hearts be open to receive the truth that can set us free! (John 8:32)
Honoring the House and everything the Lord has provide. Honoring your leaders, being committed to grow, and knowing what you have.
The kingdom of God is so simple to understand that even children can enter in (Matthew 18:2), but it is so costly, that many rich people will not see it because of their pride.
Paul teaches how to live in the grey areas of Christianity and to understand the Gentiles place in the gospel.
I love Samuel Chand and believe he is an awesome man of God! This is just an in-house discussion about what I think is the best way for pastors to address what it is like in the ministry. And I sent this link to him on his FB page for an open discussion.
Paul explains to the Jews how God is right in including the Gentiles into the gospel by faith- despite being cut off by their unbelief [vs. 10-13]. He reminds the Jews that they had been cut off in the time of the Kings and were able to come back in [vs. 25-29]– but sadly, they are now cut off again and must come back via faith like everyone else because they keep relying on works of the law.
How the “black and white” teachings of Romans 14 teach that everything is not “black and white.”
Let’s talk about the boldness of a rugby player (Israel "Izzy" Folau) versus the cowardice of a pastor (Brian Houston). #HoustonWeHaveAProblem
Paul describes what trying to follow the moral law is like without being born again and ends with gratefulness for Jesus setting him free from condemnation.
Paul begins to apply the message of salvation by faith to the whole human race. Just like all were made sinful in Adam, all are made righteous in Christ. However, it is only those who receive Christ as Lord are imputed Jesus’ righteousness (Romans 5:17).
Paul uses Abraham as an example to teach the lesson that salvation is by faith for both the circumcised and uncircumcised.
Today in this chapter we learn how God will judge those who are under the law and those without the law. And how both groups are saved when they, “by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life” (v. 7).
Joe teaches against a weak, comprising stance from a local church regarding homosexuality.
Enjoy this SUM year opening sermon on God perfectly finishing what He perfectly started!
Imagine if Jesus came to your church this Sunday- as He comes to the pulpit in the sanctuary He says, “Where are all your children?” A helpful leader says, “They’re in the back Jesus so they can be given lessons for their own age.”
Jesus responds- “Bring the children here- they are just as much apart of my church as you are.” Now imagine a concerned parent or leader saying, “But Jesus, they’ll be loud, fidgety and distracting.” What do you think Jesus would say back?
I believe He’d say, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Sound familiar?
Matthew 19:13-14, “13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. 14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

VERSES ON CHILDREN IN CHURCH
Notice how it was taken for granted for children to be with the adults while learning the tings of God:
Deuteronomy 31:9-13 (NIV) 9 So Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the Levitical priests, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel. 10 Then Moses commanded them: “At the end of every seven years, in the year for canceling debts, during the Festival of Tabernacles, 11 when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place he will choose, you shall read this law before them in their hearing. 12 Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn to fear the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. 13 Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
Deuteronomy 11:19 (NIV) 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Ephesians 6:1-4 (NIV) 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

HELPFUL TIPS FOR CHILDREN ACCORDING TO AGE:
(a) Does the child need a diaper change?
(b) Is the child hungry?
9c) Does the child need to stretch and change positions?
(a) Have you child sit on an area rug with a toy while you read- see if you can get to 20-30min with little interaction.
(b) Have set times for dinner where the child learns to quietly eat and use their words to express their needs.
(c) Incorporate self-control with family devotions. Start by having them on your lap and then begin to see if they can sit by themselves.
(a) Ask them to pay attention to the singing and learn the songs
(b) Ask them to try and read the Scriptures
(c) Have them take notes and mark in their Bibles

GREAT BOOKS
Parenting in the Pew: Robbie Castleman
The Nursery of the Holy Spirit: Daniel Hyde
In the last chapter of the Pentecostal handbook we see that Paul did exactly what Jesus did before He ascended and promised would happen after Pentecost- that the disciples would proclaim the Kingdom of God to the ends of the earth! (Acts 1:2-8 & 28:23, 30-31 & Luke 24:27)
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we learn about Paul’s journey to Rome on a ship that faces many challenges and is eventually wrecked on the island of Malta.
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we learn about Paul making his defense before King Agrippa and Governor Festus. Paul’s ability to summarize his testimony and the gospel is nothing short of divine inspiration. His supernatural ability is an example for all people (though not divinely inspired in the same way) in times of persecution (Matthew 10:19-20).
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we learn about Paul remaining faithful during the time of captivity and using Roman law to his own advantage.
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we learn how God’s hand was upon Paul and kept him safe so that he could reach Rome and spread the Christian message effectively throughout the Roman Empire.
The Bible is an inspired book given to us by God and should be taken serious. The commands of the New Testament, though almost 2,000 years old, are relevant for today and will be the standard by which the world will be judged. I pray that all of us will listen and obey what God said through Paul concerning sexual immorality, impurity, greed, obscenity, foolish talk and course joking.
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we learn about Paul’s defense against the Jewish attacks in Jerusalem before the Roman officials.
Today we learn in the Pentecostal handbook about Paul’s last travels in his third missionary journey and how he was arrested in Jerusalem.
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we read about Paul’s travels in Greece and Asia, along with learning about more of his team members, a funny story with a miracle and a strong warning against false teachers in Ephesus.
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we see the pattern of the revival and riot in the great Roman city of Ephesus. City wide transformation leads to some pagans getting angry and trying to stop the Christian movement. However, the church continues to grow and spread rapidly.
On Saturday, March 3, 2018, David Wood and Shabir Ally debated the topic: "Did Jesus Rise from the Dead?" Sponsored by Ratio Christi at George Mason University.
Note: I uploaded here so I could listen to at 2x the speed while excising (it was only on Youtube).
In chapter eighteen of the Pentecostal handbook we learn Paul was faithful to reach out to the Jews in every city despite the persecution he faced. Also, God was faithful to make new disciples through Paul’s ministry everywhere they went and He brought more team members to support the church planting work.
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we learn how Paul continued to reach the major cities of Rome starting with the Jews, two instances of “Revival or Riot” in Thessalonica and Berea; and the famous Mar’s Hill sermon from Paul to Greek philosophers.
Preached at RAVEN team's camp during Mardi Gras. Now is the time to recapture the beauty of Christianity as seen in the book of Acts; the Pentecostal handbook!
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we learn that God builds the church with faithful disciples and protects the church from being stopped in it’s infancy.
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we learn how the early church dealt with their first major doctrinal conflict- Jewish legalism and works based salvation versus salvation by faith alone. By God’s grace the leadership trusted the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Christian faith was preserved, clarified and spread out to even more people!
Today we learn in the Pentecostal handbook the concept of “Revival or Riot” as the gospel moves into new regions. Sometimes the people welcomed the gospel and they experienced revival; other times, even in the same location of revival, people would riot and persecute the disciples. Despite the ups and downs of ministry, the disciples were faithful to preach, pray and plug away!
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we begin Paul’s first missionary journey with Barnabas and John Mark as they start to reach both Jews and Gentiles in the Roman providence of Galatia.
Sorry for the bad audio, this was the best we could get. The Church of Israel is a Black Israelite group in Chicago. We debated the Trinity and Salvation.
We learn in chapter twelve of the Pentecostal handbook that despite heavy persecution from the Jews, God in His sovereignty protected Peter for future ministry and executed judgment on Herod for his role in arresting and murdering Christians.
Today’s show is about discussing the differences in Christian apologetic methods; mainly between the classical (Eric Hernandez) and the Clarkian Presuppositional approach (Jason Petersen).
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we learn that God had a plan for the Gentiles to receive salvation and empowerment along with the Jews.
Luke teaches us today in the Pentecostal handbook about the conversion of Paul, his early ministry and two miracles performed by Peter.
Today in the Pentecostal handbook we see the spread of the church to Judea and Samaria as a result of Jewish persecution in Jerusalem. Philip, one of the first seven deacons, is used in a mighty way on two separate occasions reminding us that God can still build His church no matter the circumstances.
God made us for His purpose and we will never be happy until we find our purpose in Him!
Be encouraged in the midst of suffering by this powerful sermon from guest speaker Pastor Gary Wayne Grogan!
One of the most important messages Joe has ever preached on discipleship. If you truly want to understand his heart as a pastor and the need for discipleship in the church this is it. MPI will be recommending this sermon to all pastors who desire to seek Joe's help in coaching.
Note: Please pardon Joe's two math corrections: (1) 20% of 20,000 is 4,000- with 80% being 16,000. (2) 10th Year: 82,944 & 11th Year: 165,888.
In chapter 7 of the Pentecostal handbook we learn how God worked with Stephen, one of the new deacons, in a mighty way and that he was the first martyr in the Christian church stoned by the Jewish leaders.
In chapters 6-7 of the Pentecostal handbook we learn about the apostles appointing deacons in the church to help grow and manage the church; especially the charitable outreaches. Then we learn how God worked with Stephen, one of the new deacons, in a mighty way and that he was the first martyr in the Christian church stoned by the Jewish leaders.
In chapter five of the Pentecostal handbook we learn that the disciples not only benefited from the Spirit’s power but also received His judgment and garnered the Jewish leaders wrath. However, God grew the church and continued to do miracles among the people.
In chapter four of the Pentecostal handbook we see how the first disciples were persecuted by the Jewish leaders because of preaching with power in Jesus’ name. However, the gospel continued to spread and more disciples were made. Plus, the church gives generously to help those in need.
Chapter three in the Pentecostal handbook teaches how to be ready in season and out of season to preach God’s Word and let the Holy Spirit perform signs through us! (Mark 16:15-20 & 2 Timothy 4:2)
Today we will learn in the Pentecostal handbook how to pattern ourselves after the New Testament church.
Today we reviewed seven main arguments and proofs for God's existence and practiced for our guest atheist next week!
Acts 2 in the Pentecostal’s handbook gives the historical description of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Peter’s preaching representing the inauguration of the church and the description of the early church.
Today we learned how to dismantel the unbeliever's position and establish biblical Christianity in a presuppostional apologetic approach.
Today we discussed the problem of evil from a freewill perspective. Plus, we had a great discussion at the end.
Joe teaches verse by verse through Acts 1 and explains how it is the Pentecostal's handbook.
Today Joe discussed the roots of racism and its unbiblical nature. He explained that what exists today is nothing more than ethnocentrism, which has been in every people group. Examples were given in a variety of different cultures and then refuted by the Bible. Lastly, Joe taught for Christian Americans to avoid all beliefs of racism, acting in ethnocentrism, religious hypocrisy and political corruption.
We discussed the seven main parts of the gospel, five proofs for the gospel and two powerful arguments against skepticism.
This week we discussed and learned to apply the five main theistic arguments for God from a presuppositional apologetic perspective. The five main arguments for God's existence are; The Cosmological Argument, The Moral Argument, The Epistemological Argument, The Ontological Argument and The Teleological Argument.
We also ended with giving some of the best defenses against these sound arguments.
On today’s show, we are excited to announce that we are raising funds to procure a mobile ministry truck (think of a medium sized U-Haul with a foldout stage). Vehicles like this have been used in urban outreach for decades now, allowing preachers to have outdoor services just about anywhere. The Lord has laid this burden on Joe’s heart as a way to bring the Good News to the streets of Chicago like never before. If you would like to give offerings to this effort, check out www.mpichurch.org for more info.
On “In the News” we look at the problem of gun violence in our city. We as Christians know that the answer to Chicago’s violence is not necessarily in new gun laws – the answer is Jesus Christ! Today we explore, practically speaking, what it means to bring Jesus to hurting communities.
Then, Joe takes an in-depth look at Islam, namely its prophet, Muhammad, and how his life and teachings compare with that of Jesus. Joe will then show us how to deal with the one whom Islam declares is the “Perfect Man.” In doing so, we will find out, how we can talk with Muslims about Muhammad. Finally Jared’s gem is about how Jesus is the most important person in history and in each of our lives.
Send us your questions and we will be glad to answer them on the show! Anything dealing evangelism, discipleship, apologetics, theology and the Pentecostal perspective, we would love to talk about with you!
Today we discussed the "Transcendental Argument for God" (TAG), common objections to it and gave practical insight to how to use it, in many different versions, in presuppositional apologetics.
We open today’s program by looking ahead to our upcoming “back to school” outreach on the Westside. As we do so, we will also reflect back on our experiences doing inner city outreach over the years. We then look to the news as President Donald Trump announces a ban on transgendered personnel in the military. We discuss the wisdom of this move, noting some of the problems caused by promoting gender confusion and mental illness in the armed services. Then Pastor Joe spoke about Islam and his upcoming debate and brought a “word from the Word” giving practical insight on what it means to correct false prophets. Finally, Jared came with a gem concerning stewardship, and how to be wise in our giving. Please send us your questions, and we will answer them on next week’s show!
We discussed the three basic purposes of apologetics, the three main differing approaches to apologetics and how to use proof and evidence for the glory of God as a presuppositional apologist!
On today’s show we will discuss our emphasis on theology. Our key text is 2 Timothy 4:1-5, which describes the duty of the pastor, among other things, to dispense sound doctrine (theology) among God’s people. We will also discuss what’s going on at School of Urban Missions (SUM) Bible College and Theological Seminary as they prepare for a new year of training and equipping Christian leaders to be sent out into the world. Like us at WDYB, SUM believes in teaching sound theology from a uniquely Pentecostal worldview. If you have a call to full time ministry, check out their Bachelors and Masters programs in areas of theology, biblical studies and the fivefold ministries.
On “In the News” we pause to consider the death of Chester Bennington, and how one can overcome the depression that plagued the Linkin Park front man. “Jared’s Gems” are always a surprise, but today’s edition will build off of that discussion. Lastly, today’s “Word From the Word” will show us one can find true “rest in Jesus.”
Don’t forget to send us your questions! Comment on this post so we can address them at the end of the show – anything dealing with Pentecostalism, evangelism, discipleship, apologetics and theology!
Today we discussed the apologist's message being the Bible, which is the foundation for Christian philosophy. Also, we learned the four major parts of the Christian worldview; God the absolute personality, epistemology, ethics and the gospel.
Today’s show is based on our third distinctive, “apologetics.” In the “About Us” time we discussed the biblical command for apologetics from 1 Peter 3:15-16. Then we made it practical by sharing the times we’ve debated in our ministry; highlighting our engagements with Mormons, Muslims, IDMR and Black Israelites.
Next, for our “In the News” section we made a clarification concerning Eugene Peterson and then addressed the epidemic of cowardice in the pulpits across the U.S. For “Joe’s Gems,” he shared five main principles when doing Spirit-led apologetics from Jude 1:3 and 2 Timothy 3:16. Still waiting on your questions!
Today we discussed, what is apologetics and who is an apologist? What are the three aspects of apologetics? What are presuppositions? Also, how everyone has them but only the ones Christians have are justified. What is the “myth of neutrality” as it’s related to apologetics? What is presuppostional apologetics? We discussed why it’s biblical to do apologetics this way. And lastly we went over C.S. Lewis Lewis’ “Argument from Reason” and Craig’s “Argument from Meaning.”
Today’s show focused on our heart for discipleship. Reading from a passage in his book, “Discipleship Based Churches,” Joe laid out the moral crisis taking place in our nation, and identified the primary cause as a lack of discipleship in American churches. In giving “A Word from the Word” Joe provides the answer to the crisis – that is, a return to discipleship that starts in our families.
“This Week at MPI” we have 13 NEW LIFE GROUPS starting in July! Among them, are a new 301 class (college level courses for church leadership) and a Spanish Bible Study. These new ministries were birthed organically through the Spirit, giving us pause to consider how and when to start new things in ministry.
We also looked at Eugene Peterson, celebrated pastor, author and translator of the “The Message” Bible, and his recent change of heart on same sex relationships. Though there are many reactions to this development, we had a constructive conversation about how to regard men like Peterson, who essentially deny the Bible on sexual ethics, and how we are to treat LGBT people who visit our churches.
Jared’s Gems discussed what it means to “seek God.” And simply put, to “seek God” means to “know God,” “need God,” “want God” and “love God” and is to be the norm in our lives. We’re still waiting for your questions! Contact us anytime in the next week to have your questions answered live on the program!
In today's class we went over the syllabus and the introduction to the text book. We covered the definition of presuppositional apologetics (with Scriptural basis), answered two main objections and explained how it applied to discipleship.
Today’s show was evangelism heavy. Pastor Joe taught from the word about the biblical mandate to “preach the gospel to all creation” from Mark 16:9-20, and then spoke from the heart about evangelism in the life of the church. We believe evangelism is the mission of the Church, and a command to every disciple of Christ, especially those who are called to be pastors.
Jared took the show in a slightly different direction, looking at the story of Charlie Gard, an 11 month old boy whom British courts have ordered be taken off of life support against the wishes of his parents. Worldview implications abound as we consider how Christians should think about such an issue. Then, for “Jared’s Gems,” he encouraged disciples, young and old alike, to get familiar with the meta-narrative or the “Big Picture” of the Bible, so as to understand and explain it better.
That’s it for now. Tune in next time and send in any questions you have about evangelism, discipleship, apologetics and theology to be answered on next week’s program.
Today’s episode covered a wide range of topics, from spiritual gifts to religious freedom to child rearing. In “About Us” we took a closer look at the Pentecostal worldview, where it came from, its basis in Scripture, and its impact on the world today. We then recapped a visit to MPI Church by missionaries, Jean and Teisa Nicole, from South Africa.
They taught us a lesson on what it means to be a missionary to your own community. Next came a discussion of Bernie Sanders’ recent bigoted comments directed at a Christian appointee during a senate hearing. Jared’s Gems focused on how to disciple our children by involving them in the ministry, and, finally, Joe brought from Luke 6:28 on the dangers of being loved too much!
Today's episode (our first EVER!) opened with an "About Us" segment that explored the meaning and application of Matthew 16:15 where Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” The bottom line being that what we believe matters, what we believe determines how we ultimately live, what we believe must be carefully considered, and what we believe must be based in God’s Truth!
We then went on to discuss what the recent Puerto Rican Festival Outreach and our summer plans for evangelism. We then examined an article from Dr. Michael Brown that looks at the “slippery slope” from same-sex “marriage” to other forms of perversion being accepted and authorized in the culture. For our “Jared’s Gems” segment, Jared unpacked a deep thought on friendship, leadership and discipleship from John 15:14-15.
Then Joe brought a word on the “new self” from Ephesians 4:23-24. And finally we answered YOUR questions, one particularly dealing with whether church membership was necessary for salvation.
How you view the church will determine how you view the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is seen in and through the church. The church is what Jesus is building to bring forth the Kingdom of God upon the earth.
When you believe the church is the manifestation of God’s Kingdom upon the earth and seek to build it you will reap the rewards of a blessed life now and in the age to come.
Today’s sermon is aimed at teaching you how to apply this ancient practice in your life with practical steps so you can daily abide in Jesus’ Words!
Some think spiritual growth is a long tedious journey or endless religious rules and obligations that ultimately lead to salvation and spiritual change...

My prayer with this commentary on 1 Corinthians 13-14 is to be able to glorify the Holy Spirit and inspire all His children to eagerly seek His gifts. For the most part the commentary is basic, however, at different points I get a bit technical but I still try to remain brief. I believe Paul wrote these chapters, inspired by the Holy Spirit, with one interpretation in mind- this is my best attempt by God’s grace to offer that clear explanation.
A message on evangelism as we prepare to go out to preach the gospel at Puerto Rican Festival in Humbolt Park.
Joe preaches on being born of the Spirit and baptized by the Holy Spirit. He answers commonly asked questions about both and presents biblical resources for each answer.
