In this episode, Milton speaks with R. Karl Hebenstreit, an author, keynote speaker, a certified Enneagram coach and organizational development practitioner. Karl discusses how he realized that the Enneagram–which he learned during his PhD studies in Organizational Psychology–could be used as a model for business applications, from team building to conflict resolution. This eventually led to his book, “The How and Why: Taking Care of Business with the Enneagram,” which provides practical tips, tools and techniques to apply the Enneagram to all challenges. He then extracted from the chapter on decision-making to a children’s book, “Nina & The Really, Really Tough Decision.” Karl shares how this book–that is available in four languages–introduces children to the Enneagram to help them understand that there is diversity in perspectives in the world and why it’s important to know each of these nine perspectives, their drivers, motivations and gifts that they bring.

In this episode, Milton speaks with Elisabeth Wurm, a theater director, Enneagram teacher and IT recruiter from St. Louis. Elizabeth was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2015, which came with depression and anxiety, and most recently diagnosed with brain cancer. She discusses her journey trying to navigate this as well as the Enneagram work she’s done in the past 10 years. As an Enneagram Type Two, she talks about how she leaned into the Type Eight space to advocate for what she needs and into the space of her security number Four when she’s feeling secure in being alone. She also shares tips on how to be in support and a good friend to someone with a chronic illness or battling cancer.

The Harmony triads were developed by Dr. David Daniels by looking at the lens of how can each type can be connected through lines to each center of intelligence. The phrase standing on the shoulders of giants definitely applies in this interview. I have yet to find very similar information in another Enneagram book that I have found within his books. Jerry helped found the IEA and he is hilarious. This episode is about systemic racism in education. Systemic racism is so broad when it comes to education I could not hit it all in a simple summary. This episode focuses on Plessy vs Ferguson which created "Separate but Equal". This meant segregating schools based on race. White schools, Black schools, Hispanic schools, and Asian schools. This idea already sucks for so many reasons but what made this really bad is the lack of funding and malicious attacks made upon "Black Schools".
In this episode, I dive into how this system not only impacted our history but how it still heavily impacts our school system to this day. Even though legislation came to reverse this the negative impact still heavily impacts our students and families in America to this day.

This episode is about how systemic racism was used in housing and real estate in America. One way to prevent and block people from progressing in life is to create laws/covenants/restrictions that determine where a person can and cannot live. This is exactly what Redlining did in America. There were literally lines drawn between where black people and non-white people could live and not live based on skin color. This was not just systemic racism in real estate but it was also systemic racism in banking. This part of American history still negatively impacts most cities around the US to this day.

This episode will be the start of the series on Systemic Racism. I had the opportunity to be interviewed on the Fathoms podcast by Drew, Creek and Abrams. The world and especially America is in a crazy state. There is lack of unity over almost everything. This includes people's personal safety and whether the lives of people of color even matter. In this interview I dive into the Systemic Racism because it is a topic that has impacted black people, minorities and myself in such dreadful ways. I want people to understand why even though slavery so called ended over 150 years ago the effects and trauma still last in American society and this is why America has so much turmoil going on.
I hope through educating people on this we can bring more unity and understanding in the fight against injustice and racism.
How does the Enneagram apply to this?
Well Do It For The Gram Podcast is about improving ourselves and our communities through the Enneagram. The Enneagram is about inner work and outer work! The Enneagram is about self-discovery, self-awareness and healing. The Enneagram helps us to see that this world is not just about us. If you are not humbled by working with the Enneagram then you not doing it right. This tool helps us see how to better respond, why we are not responding or why other people act so crazy in times like now.
