After last weekend's extreme winds, loose unconsolidated snow has formed wind slabs throughout the avalanche terrain. This combined with extreme cold has created complex problems to be aware of if traveling in the mountains this weekend.

After a full reset from the Grinch Storm, we're building back a base for backcountry skiing and riding. With an increase in traffic at Pinkham Notch, it's great news to hear that there was no major incidents, but hazards are still there.

Tuckerman Ravine and the rest of the Cutler River Drainage Area is officially closed as of April 2nd. We discuss what went into making this decision and why skirting this area to ski other zones in the backcountry is a bad idea. Local resorts also closed down access for uphilling. Don't forget to take batteries out of your beacon and give your skis a wax.
