Monte wrapped up the "Last Words" series teaching from 1 Peter 5:10-11 and to let us know that Peter wrote this letter to encourage us to hope in the Lord.

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. -1 Peter 5:10-11

Monte began the new series "Last Words" teaching from 1 Peter 5:5-9 where Peter closes with some thoughts that are vitally important to overcoming the persecution that his readers are about to face. Peter knew that there was this fiery trial that was about to occur and he wanted the church to be prepared for it. The last words that Peter gave the church in this letter were important to follow if they were going to glorify God during this difficult experience.

A majority of people will either be in the midst of a challenge and a struggle or they will have one sometime in the near future and these words will come as an encouragement and comfort to you as well.

*In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.* -1 Peter 5:5-9

To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.

Monte continued the series "Here We Go" teaching from 1 Peter 4:12-19 as the fires of persecution would be ignited by the roman emperor Nero. He wrote this letter to strengthen the church on a number of different levels and preparing the church to be ready for the heat.

Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.

-1 Peter 4:12-13

ICYMI: Sundays Family Dedication message "It's Your job' was from Psalm 78. The writer of Psalm 78 gave instruction for parents on how to spiritually equip our children.

*My people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old— things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us. We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.

He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. They would not be like their ancestors— a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God,whose spirits were not faithful to him.*

-Psalm 78:1-8
