It's finals week!  No, not the kind college students fear & dread - the kind that fantasy football team owners look forward to and strive for all season.  While almost certainly there's been some luck involved in your team's reaching your league's championship game, the pre-season reasearch & mock drafting, and the in-season trades & waiver wire additions have paid off, putting you on the doorstep of your league's title.  All that remains is one last contest vs a team that in all likelihood has been just as good (if not better) than your squad.  Which NFL teams have the best matchups this week that you can exploit for fantasy (championship) purposes?  And which players, even if they turn out to be just "one-week wonders", can increase your chances of emerging victorious?Tune in tonight at 7:30pm Eastern (or download after the fact and listen with your favorite podcast app) for The 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa!  Now in our 14th season together, let us guide you to victory!

RESCHEDULED FROM WEDNESDAY NIGHT DUE TO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES WITH BLOG TALK RADIOIt's semifinals week in most fantasy football leagues - if you're reading this, chances are you either won your first-round matchup last weekend (great!) or had a first-round bye (even better!)  However, past success is no guarantee of future performance in many aspects of life, including fantasy football.  Thanks to untimely injuries, some fantasy teams that breezed through the regular season find themselves having to decide between Easton Stick and Nick Mullens as their starting quarterback for a playoff matchup.  Feeling good about having picked up Keaton Mitchell just in time for the stretch run?  How about having to replace him this week with either Roschon Johnson or Kenneth Gainwell?  Happy to have Ja'Marr Chase back in your starting lineup?  How does having to start Joshua Palmer or Rashid Shaheed sound? The point is, no matter how smooth your path has been up to this point in the season, it's always a good idea to have a Plan B in case of injuries.  Which players available on the waiver wire could fill in adequately for missing stars?  And which of several options you may be considering for a flex position have the most favorable matchup this week?Tune in Thursday morning at 7:00am Eastern (or download after the fact and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa!  Now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

Here we are - fantasy football playoff season!  It took lots of savvy team management and (in all likelihood) some degree of good fortune to get your team to the post-season, but there you are.  Even if you're one of the lucky few to have a bye this week, it never hurts to be looking ahead to optimize your lineup for next week.  And for those with first-round playoff matchups this week, hopefully you weren't counting on Justin Herbert or C.J. Stroud quarterbacking your team to post-season fantasy glory.  Of course, even if you were, you're unlikely to want to forfeit your first-round match-up, so which widely available waiver wire options should you be considering for this week?Tune in tonight at 8:30pm Eastern (or download afterwards and listen with your favorite podcast app) for The 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa.  Now entering the homestretch of our 14th season, let us guide you to playoff victory!

Last call for those on the bubble of qualifying for their fantasy football league's playoffs!  For the vast majority of leagues this is the final week of the fantasy regular season.  Thankfully, there are only 2 teams on bye this week (Arizona, Washington), so hopefully that won't affect your starting lineup too much, but there are still a number of up-in-the-air quarterback situations, with a good number of injuries thrown in for good measure.  For the last week of the regular season as well as the playoff weeks, paying attention to the NFL schedule and the weather report are just as important as paying attention to the waiver wire.  While neither Jana nor The Sherpa have meteorological degrees, they're both astute enough to be able to read a schedule and figure out which games are either in warm-weather sites, in domes, or both (looking at you, Las Vegas).  At first glance it looks like there could be a number of low-scoring games this week, so don't blindly "start your studs" if they have a bad matchup, when someone on your bench or on the waiver wire may have a more favorable matchup.  Which players fall into this category?Tune in Thursday night at 9:30pm Eastern (or download after the fact and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa (and help us celebrate Jana's birthday)!  Now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

There are just 2 weeks left in most fantasy football leagues' regular season - unless you're in the enviable position of having already clinched a first-round bye for your league's playoffs, chances are you have a lot riding on your last two regular season matchups.  And just to increase the degree of difficulty, standouts such as Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, Josh Jacobs, T.J. Hockenson, and Saquon Barkley all have byes this week.  Which teams have the most favorable match-ups this week that you can exploit for fantasy purposes?  And which players who might currently be languishing on your league's waiver wire could make the difference between your fantasy team making the playoffs or not?Tune in tonight at 8pm Eastern (or download afterwards and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa - now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

So here we are at Thanksgiving week - how did that happen so quickly?  After this week the NFL regular season will be 2/3 over, and the fantasy football regular season will have just 2 weeks to go for the overwhelming majority of leagues.  Another week of generally low-scoring games - between that and the (in many cases) mediocre to atrocious quarterback play, it's been a real grind this season to put forth a consistent fantasy lineup on a weekly basis.  That makes it more important than ever to consider each week's matchups and most likely game scripts before setting your lineup.  Which teams have favorable matchups this week, and which ones will make your fantasy team wish they were on a bye this week?Tune in tonight at 8pm Eastern (or download afterwards and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa!  Now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

With just 4 weeks remaining in most fantasy football leagues' regular season, we're heading into the home stretch!  In all likelihood, there are still a bunch of playoff spots up for grabs in your league, so now's the time to either solidify your grip on a spot, or claw your way through the thicket of contending teams to secure your golden ticket!  That said, the fantasy landscape looks a lot different now than it did 2-3 months ago when you did your fantasy draft, especially at the quarterback position.  Due to a combination of injuries and bad performances (or in Daniel Jones' case, both), a number of highly touted QB options have fallen short of expectations.  Other options have exceeded expectations (looking at you, Jared Goff), and even an overlooked rookie has been among the best QBs fantasy-wise (and real life-wise) in recent weeks (C.J. Stroud, of course).  Should you stream QBs and play matchups?  Or just trust your best option will be reasonably consistent from week to week?  Tune in tonight at 8:30pm Eastern (or download afterwards and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa!  Now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

Happy (day after) Election Day!  Many Americans are already looking ahead to the 2024 elections, but that's no reason to ignore the 2023 elections.  Similarly, we've reached the point in the fantasy football season where it's easy to look ahead and lose focus on the only thing that you can control in the short run - your team's lineup for the next game in front of you.  Sure, if you're still undefeated and are already eyeing the top seed in your league's playoffs, or if you're at the bottom of the standings and already looking forward to your league's 2024 draft next summer, it's more understandable if you aren't focused on what's right in front of you.  However, for the vast majority of us, the remaining 5 weeks of the fantasy regular season still matter - either we're working to improve our likely playoff seeding, we're scratching and clawing just to make our league's playoffs, or we're looking forward to playing spoiler (both from a personal satisfaction standpoint and a league integrity standpoint).  With 4 good-to-very-good teams on bye this week, there's a great chance you'll need to fill at least one hole in your lineup this week (maybe more), regardless of your place in the standings.  Which waiver wire adds can help you get a step closer to your goal (whatever it is)?Tune in tonight at 7:30pm Eastern (or download afterwards and listen with your favorite podcast app) to the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa.  Now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

Where have all the quarterbacks gone (long time passing)?  The list of quarterbacks drafted in fantasy football leagues who've now been knocked out (either for the season or an extended period of time) now includes Aaron Rodgers, Anthony Richardson, Daniel Jones, Deshaun Watson, and Kirk Cousins.  Those in questionable health, with questionable holds on their starting positons, or with byes this week include Jared Goff, Trevor Lawrence, Matthew Stafford, Kenny Pickett, Desmond Ridder, and Baker Mayfield.  All this is to say that there's a good chance that either your starting quarterback or your bench version will be unavailable this week.  Fortunately, there are a number of good replacement options widely available on waivers, but which ones will be your best bets?Tune in tonight at 7:30pm Eastern (or download afterwards and listen with your favorite podcast app) to the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & Ther Sherpa!  Now in our 14th season together, let us guide you to victory!

We're officially at the halfway point of the regular season for many fantasy football leagues - how is your team faring?  Whether you're undefeated and think you're the fantasy football equivalent of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, you're feeling like roadkill (i.e.- like the 2023 Miami Dolphins after losing to the Eagles), there's still plenty of regular season left.  At this point it's unlikely you'll find "difference makers" on the waiver wire, but the goal isn't to find someone who'll duplicate Patrick Mahomes' stats the rest of the way - any incremental improvement, even if it's just to the fringes of your roster, is likely to be worthwhile.  Which players currently on the waiver wire might be in that category for your fantasy team?Tune in tonight at 7pm Eastern (or download afterwards and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa.  Now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

Let's cut straight to the chase - this week will be . . . challenging.  Between the myriad of injuries (esp to QBs) and having 6 teams on bye this week, NFL Week 7 has the potential to be a real . . . challenge for fantasy football team owners.  How far down into the depths of the waiver wire will you need to go to find a replacement RB or QB?  Probably a lot deeper than you would need to in an "ordinary" week (if such a thing ever existed).  The silver lining is that your opponent this week is likely facing similar challenges, so don't expect a lot of sympathy from them.  However, NFL games will still be played, and fantasy football matchups will still be won/lost.  How can you ensure that your team has the best chance to be successful this week in spite of all the . . . challenges?Tune in tonight at 8:30pm Eastern (or download later and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa.  Now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

So, we're now through 4 weeks of the NFL season and more than a quarter of the way through the fantasy football regular season - how is your team doing?  Is it living up to the championship-level expectations you had for it when you left your draft?  Are you in the middle of the pack trying to gain ground on the league leaders?  Or are you overseeing a complete dumpster fire / pile of dung of a team that has fallen far short of its potential?  Wherever you currently sit, we're about to enter a critical part of the schedule - the bye weeks.  Unlike injuries, every owner has to navigage bye weeks to the same extent, and your ability to do so may make the difference between a playoff berth and an off-season spent second-guessing yourself.  The waiver wire is somewhat thinner than usual during bye weeks - which players can help you get over the hump, even if it's just for a week?Tune in tonight at 7:30pm Eastern (or download afterwards and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa - now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

Week 3 of the NFL season was a relatively mild one from an injury standpoint - just don't tell that to the Michael Williams or Jaylen Waddle owner in your fantasy football league.  At least Williams put up a stellar performance before he was knocked out by a knee injury that will end his season.  As someone who has Jaylen Waddle on a roster, it was disappointing (I almost wrote "infuriating") to miss out on the Dolphins' historic offensive explosion - if you were playing a team that included either Raheem Mostert or (somewhat less likely) De'Von Achane in its starting lineup this past week, most likely you were on the short end of the score.  Not to worry - those kinds of fluky things happen during the season. However, what's not fluky are the results you get when you're making incremental (or greater) improvements to your team's roster as we go through the season.  Whether your team is 0-3, 3-0, or somewhere in between, there are more than likely some areas of your roster that could use an upgrade, even if it's just to hold the fort until your injured starters return.  And we're here to help!Join us tonight at 7:30pm Eastern (or download afterwards and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa!  Now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

NFL Week 2 was a rough one from an injury standpoint.  If your fantasy football team doesn't include Nick Chubb, Saquon Barkley, Anthony Richardson, or a myriad of other players who went down with injuries, consider yourself lucky!  For the rest of us, this is likely just a taste of what's to come.  Almost every fantasy football roster faces a number of serious injuries to key players during the course of the season, but not all owners react the same way.  Some owners will bemoan their players' fates or curse at their team's misfortune.  Other owners, while still bemoaning their players' fates, will see this as an opportunity to demonstrate their know-how by making a trade or plucking this week's version of Puka Nacua from their league's waiver wire. If you want to be in the latter group, you've come to the right place!Tune in tonight at 7:30pm Eastern (or download afterwards and listen with your favorite podcast app) to the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa!  Now in our 14th season together, let us guide you to victory!

So, how did NFL Week 1 go for you and your fantasy football team?  Much like a kid eager to open presents, we finally had a chance to see what we got, and the results weren't always quite what we'd hoped for.  Did you spend an early-round draft pick on Travis Kelce or Mark Andrews?  Did you have J.K. Dobbins or Aaron Rodgers in your Week 1 lineup?  Did you start any Giants' players?  If so, then you were probably left wondering what could have been.  But cheer up, it's only one week, and small sample sizes are no reason to tear your hair out (or go flinging your toys against the wall).  Which unexpected star turns are likely to last more than a week?  Which players who had a disappointing season debut are likely to bounce back?  And how do you replace those irreplaceable players on your roster who have already been bitten by the injury bug?Tune in tonight at 8pm Eastern (or download after the fact and listen with your favorite podcast app) to the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa!  Now in our 14th season, let us guide you to victory!

Are you excited yet?!?  With a mere two days left until the 2023 NFL season kicks off, you're probably done with your fantasy football drafts at this point.  Now comes the fun part - seeing how your team actually stacks up against both other teams and your own expectations.  With that said, there are a lot of unanswered questions heading into the season.  How will the highly touted rookie QBs (Young, Stroud, Richardson) do in actual games?  How serious is Cooper Kupp's injury?  Will Jonathan Taylor play at all this season, and if so, where?  Which teams that revamped their offenses this off-season will be improved sources of fantasy points?Tune in tonight at 7:30pm Eastern (or download and listen after the fact on your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa as we attempt to answer these questions and get your lineups optimized for Week 1!  Now in our 14th season together, let us guide you to victory!

What a wacky week it was for the first round of fantasy football league playoffs: an all-time Vikings comeback; walk-off overtime victories for the Vikings, Jaguars(!!), and Raiders(!!!); and injuries to a couple of players (Jalen Hurts, Jonathan Taylor) that many fantasy teams were counting on for the playoffs.  While the first two are fun to talk about, it's really the third item that will be causing owners still alive in their fantasy football playoffs the most stress.  How do you replace players like Hurts and Taylor?  The short answer is - you don't.  At best, you may find someone still on the waiver wire with a favorable matchup this week, which is all you should care about at this point in the fantasy season.  But who are those needles in the haystack?Tune in tonight at 8pm Eastern (or download and listen after the fact with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa - now in our 13th season, let us guide you to victory!

So we've reached the last week of the regular season in most fantasy football leagues.  How badly do you need a win?  Unless you've either already secured a first-round bye for your league's playoffs, or just tuned out entirely (in which case you likely wouldn't be reading this), this is one of the most fun, yet simultaneously stress-inducing, weeks of the season.  Is it worth going with your roster's backups at certain positions (esp. QB) if the backup has a markedly better matchup this week than your starter?  Add in the fact that 6 (?!) teams have Week 14 byes, and you'll almost certainly be at least glancing at your league's waiver wire - is there anyone still available who can get you a much-needed victory?Tune in tonight at 8:30pm Eastern (or download later and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa.  We'll be celebrating Jana's birthday, so cut yourself some virtual cake, and let us guide you to victory!

Thanksgiving week is simultaneously one of the most fun weeks of the fantasy football season, and one of the most challenging.  Fun in the sense that there are fewer teams on a bye (or, as is the case this year, none), and only one game at a time to watch (i.e. - no FOMO).  Challenging in the sense that if you have players with injury concerns who aren't playing until the weekend, and your backup options are playing on Thursday, you have a tough decision to make.  Which players will ultimately play on Sunday, and which ones have so much uncertainty surrounding their health status that you're better off going with a sure thing on Thursday?

The fantasy football regular season is now 2/3 over in most leagues - how is your team doing?  Regardless of whether you're in contention for a top seed for your league's playoffs, or you're playing spoiler and already looking forward to next year, there are still opportunities to improve your team.  Even for leagues whose trading deadlines are fast approaching, there are plenty of players on waivers who could at the very least serve as bye week fill-ins.  Is Rachaad White now the lead back in Tampa Bay?  When will we see Mike Williams again?  Will Trey McBride join the ranks of impact rookie tight ends now that Zach Ertz is out for the season?

Perhaps the most important position to get right for your fantasy football team (with the possible exception of running back) is quarterback.  While some will always choose to go the streaming route, having a consistently above average performer at that key position can cover for a number of other roster deficiencies.  Unfortunately, there's increasing evidence that a couple of long-term QB stalwarts, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady, may no longer be top-tier performers.  Should you hold tight, and trust that their recent subpar performances are just due to small sample sizes, or is it finally time to say "thanks for the memories" and move on from these guys?

Here's hoping your fantasy football teams fared better than the NFL favorites for Week 6 - if, as the old Holiday Inn commercials used to claim "The best surprise is no surprise", then this past weekend of football was an unpleasant surprise for many. Aside from the usual bye week-related and injury-related absences, there's also been a fair amount of chatter about potential trades leading up to the October 31st deadline (note: if Robbie Anderson is available in your league, pick him up).  Who's likely to be on the mend and on the move, and how can you take advantage to shore up your fantasy team's depth?

The Bye Weeks are coming!  The Bye Weeks are coming!  Even those of you who through the fortune of your rabbit's foot, or whatever your good luck charm of choice is, have managed to navigate the first 5 weeks of the fantasy football season without incurring any significant injuries to your original roster, will need to think ahead.  Which players on the fringes of your roster can be safely cut in order to make way for needed reinforcements?  Even if you're fortunate to not be facing any bye week-related lineup deficiencies this week, you're likely still eyeing the waiver wire to see if you can upgrade your current roster in a meaningful way.  How do you separate the wheat from the chaff?

If your team just happens to feature season-to-date surprises like Jared Goff or Geno Smith at QB, Saquon Barkley or Jamaal Williams at RB, Christian Kirk or Marquise Brown at WR, and the Eagles' or 49ers' Defense, then you're probably sitting pretty almost a third of the way into the fantasy football regular season.  For the rest of us, who weren't so fortunate, and are likely dealing with at least several injuries too, there's lots of "opportunity for improvement".  The good news is that there's still plenty of time to turn things around, even if your team is off to a 1-3 or (heaven forbid) an 0-4 start.  How should you go about looking for incremental improvements and injury replacements for your roster?  Which players should you target, either in trades or (more likely) on your league's waiver wire?

Congratulations to all of you whose fantasy football teams are off to a 3-0 start and haven't suffered any injuries to any of your key players! (#sarcasm)  For the rest of us, the injuries and some surprising starts have created opportunities to improve our rosters, even if those improvements are only incremental.  But how to separate the wheat from the chaff?  Are Jalen Hurts, Jared Goff, and Trevor Lawrence likely to remain better fantasy options than Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady?  Is Khalil Herbert a potential league-winning RB addition, or is he merely a talented back-up to David Montgomery who will play only as long as the latter as injured?

For those with Josh Allen, Tua Tagovailoa, or Jalen Hurts as their starting quarterback, chances are that Week 2 of your fantasy football season went well.  For those with Trey Lance, Matt Ryan, or Joe Burrow - you were probably facing an uphill battle in your matchups.  At this point in the season we still don't have much data to go on (#smallsamplesizes), but the fantasy football conundrum is that if you wait until the emerging stars have put up a few more noteworthy performances, they'll no longer be available to you on the waiver wire.  Fantasy football definitely requires a mindset of being willing to shoot now and ask questions later.  With that in mind, which unexpected (or better-than-expected) performances are signs of potential breakouts?  Which ones are mirages?  And what to do about the injuries that have hit your squad?

We're finally here - the end of the 2021 NFL regular season!  The argument that springs up every year at this time regarding whether fantasy football leagues should be playing their championship game the last week of the NFL regular season is irrelevant here - if you're playing for your league's championship this week, it stinks if one or more of your star players are sitting out this week, but by no means should you throw in the towel.  For starters, your opponent is likely in the same boat you are with respect to missing players.  Another way to look at things - at the time you drafted your team, the issue of which teams would be likely resting players the last week of the season was largely random, just like the injuries and COVID-related absences that befell fantasy studs like Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, Lamar Jackson, and many others this season.  Which teams will likely be resting key players this week, and who should you start in their place?

Congratulations!  You've made it to your fantasy football league's championship game and are now one of only two teams left standing!  While that's surely a source of pride, it's always more satisfying when you're able to go on to win your final matchup.  That's challenging in a "normal" season, and with a second straight season disrupted by pandemic-related absences (not to mention the normal spate of injuries), this year has been anything but "normal".  Which teams are dealing with COVID outbreaks that may affect your players' availability for your championship matchup?  Which banged up players may not play this weekend?  Which players may return from injuries this week?  And which players on the waiver wire have the potential to swing the championship matchup in your favor?

So, how did your fantasy football playoff team(s) survive one of the strangest/craziest weekends of NFL games in recent history?  Hopefully, your playoff team(s) had a bye - if not, chances are your nerves are either completely destroyed or at the very least, seriously frayed.  With many fantasy playoff contests not being decided until the Tuesday evening games (?!), you have less time than usual this week to assess the damage, figure out which of your injured players are unlikely to be available for this weekend's matchups, and devise a plan to replace them on your rosters/in your lineups.  Where can you turn for advice on which players to consider?

"Playoffs?  Don't talk about - playoffs.  You kidding me?  Playoffs?  I just hope we can win a game!  Another game!"

As we head into the first week of most fantasy football leagues' playoffs, Jim Mora's words from 20 years ago ring true (at least some of them).  At this point it's good to heed the former coach's advice and take it one game at a time.  Your team made the playoffs through some combination of skill and luck (hopefully, more of the former than the latter), but anything can happen in a single-week matchup, especially with the new league-wide spike in COVID cases.  Which players can you count on this week, and which of your team's stalwarts should be benched or even replaced?

NFL Week 14 represents the final week of the regular season for most fantasy football leagues.  Unfortunately, 4 teams (Ind, Mia, NE, Phi) have byes this week, which means that some fairly significant players will be sidelined (Jonathan Taylor, anyone?).  So keeping up with injuries and who's available on the waiver wire is even more important this week than usual.  Where can you turn for advice on which players can help with your playoff push?

With Week 13 of the NFL season upon us, most fantasy football leagues have at most a week or two left in their regular season.  Whether you're trying to lock up a top seed and first-round playoff bye, or you're on the bubble in need of another win or two to get in, or you're playing the role of spoiler, there are always injuries (Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook) and role changes (Alexander Mattison, Taysom Hill) to keep up with.  Where can you go to make sure your roster is in as good a shape as possible as we head down the home stretch?

Fantasy football week-to-week results are fickle by nature - just ask the person in your league who started D.K. Metcalf or Aaron Jones last week.  Even if you're 8-2 or better at this point and your biggest concern presently is whether you'll snag a first-round bye in your league's playoffs, there's always room for improvement, and always a need to have viable backup options for all your key starters (Kickers and Defenses excepted, which are almost always eminently streamable).  Which widely-available players have the most upside for the rest of the season as we head into the homestretch of the fantasy football regular season?

So we're at the halfway point of the NFL season and roughly 2/3 of the way through the fantasy football regular season - how are your teams doing?  Last Sunday was a strange one, not so much from an injury standpoint, but more from the standpoint of usually reliable performers having down weeks.  Couple that with a number of fantasy stalwarts having bye weeks, and fantasy matchup results were even more variable than usual.

How can you minimize the variance going forward?  Or should you even be trying to do that - are you better off just embracing high-variance players and hoping for the best week to week?  Tune in tonight at 7pm Eastern (or download after the fact and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa - now in our 12th season together, let us guide you to victory!

So, how did Week 8 of the NFL season go for you and your fantasy football teams?  With only 2 teams having their bye week, it seemed like most fantasy teams should be at or near full strength.  However, after injuries to Derrick Henry, DeAndre Hopkins, Jameis Winston, and a stupid off-field decision by Henry Ruggs III, many fantasy teams suddenly have holes (short-term and long-term) that didn't exist a week ago.  On the other hand, new "stars" like Mike White are always springing up and are likely available on a waiver wire near you (I'm guessing none of you had him on your teams last week, much less started him, unless (1) you're in a really deep dynasty league, (2) you're the most ardent of Jets fans, or (3) you're in a 2QB league, and your QBs were Lamar Jackson and Derek Carr (both of whom had byes last week).

Who can make a difference in your lineup this week?  Tune in tonight at 8pm Eastern (or download after the fact and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa!  Now in our 12 season together, let us guide you to victory!

So, how did your fantasy football teams survive Bye-mageddon?  More importantly, where are you in the standings at the halfway point of the fantasy regular season?  Whether you're firmly ensconced in first place, on the bubble, or already wondering about next year's draft, there's still a lot to play for, and a lot of time left to make up ground in the standings.  The waiver wire is a constant source of new players for your roster, but are there any trades that could make a meaningful difference for your roster and be the difference between qualifying for your league's playoffs and waiting til next year?

With the NFL's move to a 17-week regular season this year, most fantasy football leagues will hit the halfway mark of their regular season after this week's games.  Coincidentally, we're also heading into "Bye-a-geddon", as 6 teams will have the weekend off.  Combine that with the injuries most fantasy team owners are already dealing with, and it's easy to see why this is the most challenging part of the season for many teams.

What trades should you be seeking?  Are there any impact players left on the waiver wire who could upgrade your team?  Tune in tonight at 8pm Eastern (or download after the fact and listen with your favorite podcast app) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa!  Now in our 12th season together, let us guide you to victory!

NFL Week 5 brought fantasy football team owners lots of high-scoring games, a handful of significant injuries, and a bushel of players who are probably on your league's waiver wire outperforming expectations.  Between injuries to Clyde Edwards-Helaire, George Kittle, Saquon Barkley, Logan Thomas, etc., and the start of the always-popular bye weeks, most owners likely have some holes to fill and roster decisions to make this week.  Who should you target as your injured/bye week players' replacements?

You know we're starting to get into the middle portion of the NFL season when we starting having early Sunday morning games from London, and we have to start checking whether any of the players on our fantasy football teams have a bye this week (fear not - bye weeks won't be with us until next week!)

How do you ensure that your roster has enough depth to withstand the inevitable player absences due to bye weeks, and the almost as inevitable player absences due to injuries?  Which players on the fringes of your roster can be safely dropped, and which ones are showing signs of life that point to bigger and better weeks ahead?

NFL Week 3 featured a handful of zany endings and several blowouts - along with the never-ending slew of injuries that are a constant in fantasy football, we've now reached the point in the season where we've started to collect some meaningful data on both teams and individual players.  If you're like most fantasy owners, you're tempted to bench your struggling team members in place of either someone already on your bench or an early-season high-flyer who's still available in your league's free agent pool.

Which of these fast-starters will turn out to be gold, and which will turn out to be fool's gold?  Should your slow-starters be benched, traded, or just cut?

Congratulations if your fantasy football team managed to avoid the injury bug in Week 2.  Players at all positions, but especially Quarterback (Carson Wentz, Tua Tagovailoa, Tyrod Taylor, and, yes, Andy Dalton).  Other injured players of note from a fantasy perspective included Jarvis Landry, Diontae Johnson, Darrell Henderson, Trey Sermon, Elijah Mitchell, and possibly Dalvin Cook.

The point is, no matter how good you feel about your team's roster presently, turmoil is just an injury away.  Even if you have no injuries among the players on your current roster, there's always the opportunity to achieve the continuous incremental improvement that's a hallmark of teams that contend for their league's fantasy championship.

Playoff time is here! For the vast majority of fantasy football leagues Week 14 of the NFL regular season corresponds to week 1 of your league's playoffs. Congrats to those who have managed to guide their teams into the playoffs through all the uncertainty of the 2020 season!

Now, the real fun begins. Which players have the best matchups this week, and which players (and teams) have matchups that should be avoided at all costs? If you don't think this type of analysis is important, just ask anyone who stacked a bunch of Chargers players last week against the Patriots how that worked out for them. And which players still on the waiver wire have the potential to be the late-season stars that might possibly make the difference between celebrating a fantasy football championship and lamenting "the one that got away"?

Week 10 of the 2020 NFL season was a tough one injury-wise for quarterbacks, and by extension the fantasy football teams that rely on them.  Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater, Matthew Stafford, and Nick Foles all suffered injuries of various severities, which will force their fantasy team owners to scour the waiver wire.  On the plus side, several key running backs appear to be nearing a return.  And if your roster contained Buccaneers, Cardinals, or Bills, chances are you had a good week.  Ideally, your team is at least 5-5 through Week 10, but even if you aren't, there's still 3 weeks left in most leagues to make up ground and get yourself into a playoff spot.  Which players will help you win this week?

Now that Week 9 of the 2020 NFL season is complete, all teams have now played at least half their schedule, and things are starting to come into focus.  Teams like the Steelers, Chiefs, and Ravens were expected to be good, and they are.  Teams like the Jets, Giants, Jaguars, and Bengals were expected to be bad, and they are.  But some teams that were expected to be bad have turned out to be pretty good, at least so far (e.g. - Miami, Arizona).  And some teams that were expected to be good have turned out to be pretty bad (e.g. - San Francisco, Minnesota, Dallas, Philadelphia, both LA teams).

Chances are that you also have a pretty good idea by this point in the season which of your fantasy football teams are contenders, and which are already looking forward to next year's draft.  No matter how good your team is (or not) and how many players you've lost to COVID and injuries (or not), there are always opportunities to improve your teams, even if it's just an upgrade to your Bench players.  Which players will help upgrade your roster?

With Halloween right around the corner it seemed that NFL Week 7 was full of more tricks than treats for fantasy football team owners.  Andy Dalton was knocked out of the Cowboys' humiliation at the hands of a football team called the Football Team, tanking the value of Dallas' Ezekiel Elliott and the talented wide receiver corps even further.  Odell Beckham Jr was knocked out for the season, Chris Godwin broke his finger, and DeSean Jackson is back on IR after being active for what seemed like ten minutes.  On the plus side, Antonio Brown will soon be coming to fantasy football lineups near you, and Dez Bryant is finally back in the NFL (can Colin Kaepernick be far behind?)

One of the best things about the NFL is that it's always full of surprises - "on any given Sunday . . ." as the adage goes.  Who would have thought going into last week that Brian Hill would be the leading rusher for the Falcons as they upset the Saints on the road?  Or that Cleveland would beat Buffalo, and Kareem Hunt would be a viable fantasy football option his first game back from a half-season suspension?  Players are always coming out of the woodwork/emerging from the shadows/pick your favorite metaphor and leading fantasy teams to unexpected victories.  Who are some of the yet unsung heroes for the remainder of the 2019 season?

With the NFL regular season now at least half over for all 32 teams, your fantasy football team's strengths and weaknesses should be abundantly clear to you at this point.  Injuries?  Bye weeks?  Every fantasy team owner deals with those.  What separates the most successful fantasy football owners from the rest of the pack?  A lot of it has to do with being flexible - that is, willing to admit that some of the ideas you had about players at the start of the season are either no longer valid, or were never valid to begin with.  Things change quickly in the NFL - how do you move on from players who aren't helping your cause when there's nothing forcing you to do so (e.g. - a season-ending trip to IR)?

Hard to believe we're already at the median of the 2019 NFL season - seems like just a few weeks ago we were drafting our fantasy football teams and wondering if anyone could beat the Patriots this year.  Well, we're still asking ourselves the latter question, but chances are your fantasy roster looks quite different than it did just a few weeks ago, thanks to bye weeks, injuries, and waiver wire replacements.

As we look forward to Week 8 of the 2019 NFL season, both Halloween and the NFL trade deadline are rapidly approaching.  Sam Darnold may be "seeing ghosts", but his team (duh Jets) seems to be staying out of the spirited NFL trade market.  Wide receivers Mohamed Sanu and Emmanuel Sanders have already been traded - what impact will these deals have on both their new and former teams?  Who else is likely to get moved before the deadline?  And how should fantasy football owners react?

By this point in the season you should have a pretty good idea of your fantasy football team's prospects for the remainder of the season.  If you're not at least 2-3 at this point, or on the receiving end of a run of bad luck, you'll probably need to make some changes in order to give your team a chance to make your league's playoffs.  Which waiver wire denizens can help?  What upgrades are possible through trades?  And how do you navigate the shoals of the bye weeks?

NFL Week 2 was a rough one for some veteran (and not-so-veteran) quarterbacks.  Ben Roethlisberger is lost for the season.  Drew Brees is probably out for 6 weeks or longer.  Sam Darnold came down with mono, and fellow Meadowlands denizen Eli Manning came down with scapegoatitis.  Cam Newton continues to suffer new injuries seemingly every week.

You are really hard-core.  Not content with the standard fantasy football league season, your league's championship is played during Week 17 of the NFL season - a week when fantasy teams run the risk of missing key players due to nagging injuries and, perhaps more importantly, their presence on playoff-bound NFL teams with nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing those key players in a "meaningless" regular season finale.

Fortunately for you, only the Cowboys and Saints are likely to rest their starters this week (sorry owners of Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, and Michael Thomas!), so you may be okay.  However, just because your regular season stalwarts are starting doesn't mean they should be in your fantasy lineup this week.  Which players should you start at all costs?  Which ones should you take a long, hard look at before starting?  And are there any diamonds on the fantasy waiver wire, or only cubic zirconia?

Congratulations!  Week 14 of the NFL season is the first week of the playoffs for most fantasy football leagues.  Maybe you nailed your draft, hit on every waiver wire pickup, and had the good luck of your entire roster remaining healthy for the entire season.  Hats off to you - well done.  For the rest (majority) of us, that's not what happened during our run to the playoffs.  And to make things even more challenging, running backs who were key cogs for many playoff-bound fantasy teams are either injured (e.g. - James Conner) or suddenly out of the league (Kareem Hunt).  What's a fantasy owner in need of 2 or 3 more victories on the road to championship glory to do?

NFL Week 12 brings us to a beloved tradition - the Thanksgiving Day football-fest!  Realizing that fantasy football owners want to consume football even more than they want to consume turkey, the NFL changed from the age-old Turkey Day doubleheader to a tripleheader a number of years ago.  Some years the games are all interesting; most years there's at least one dud mixed in.  The last two teams have their byes this week, so that's less of an issue than it has been in previous weeks, but there are still a number of key injuries to deal with that will require a trip to the waiver wire.

We're now at the point where all NFL teams have played at least half their regular season games.  The fantasy football regular season is ~70% complete for most leagues, with the majority of fantasy team owners having four weeks left to either chase a top seed or grab one of the last playoff spots.  We get somewhat of a break this week, with a 4-team bye week sandwiched between two 6-team bye weeks, but there are still plenty of injured players and players on their bye week to make roster decisions challenging.  What waiver wire pickups and/or trades can you make to enhance your chances of winning this week?

Trick or treat!  On this Halloween evening there are many players whom fantasy football team owners would place in both categories.  Those on the mid-season treat list include Patrick Mahomes, James Conner, Marlon Mack, Adam Thielen, and Zack Ertz; while those on the mid-season trick list include Drew Brees, David Johnson, Leonard Fournette, Keenan Allen, and Rob Gronkowski.

This scary week also finds six teams with a bye, so chances are that almost all owners will be heading to the waiver wire this week to replace at least one starter in their lineups.  Who should you be looking to add?  Which of these players should be considered as one-week fill-ins, and which ones have the potential to be weekly contributors in your fantasy lineup down the stretch?  Tune in tonight at 9pm Eastern (or download after the fact) for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa.  Now in our 9th season, let us guide you to victory!!!

NFL Week 5 featured Drew Brees setting the NFL all-time passing yardage record and yet another overtime game for the Cleveland Browns (how is it possible to play 3 overtime games in 5 weeks, much less go 1-1-1 in them?!?)  Isaiah Crowell rushed for 200+ yards (how is THAT possible?!), and the Giants figured out how to snatch yet another defeat from the jaws of victory.  Jay Ajayi's season-ending knee injury creates chaos in yet another team's backfield, and the Le'Veon Bell rumors intensify.

Week 3 NFL news was dominated by the protests during the national anthem, but it was also a remarkable week with respect to the games that were played - several big upsets, several fantastic finishes, and several more near-misses.  Thankfully, it was a relatively good week for fantasy football owners from an injury perspective.  Still, with bye weeks fast approaching, and most fantasy teams' benches always in need of improvement, there are plenty of useful options still available on the waiver wire.

Which of these players can help you survive bye weeks, injuries, and slow starts?  And which players are the fantasy equivalent of "fools' gold"?  Tune in tonight at 8:30pm Eastern (or download the show after the fact) to the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa.  We're now in our 8th season of doing the show - let us guide you to victory!

Two weeks into the 2017 NFL season and many fantasy football team owners are already hurting.  For some owners the pain is due to actual injuries suffered by key members of their fantasy team (think David Johnson, Allen Robinson, and Greg Olsen), but for many owners the chief culprits are disappointing results from players they drafted in the early rounds of their fantasy draft just a few short weeks ago (think Le'Veon Bell, Odell Beckham Jr, and Jordan Howard).  Which players currently on your league's waiver wire can help you combat injuries and/or underperformance?

Tune in tonight at 9:00pm Eastern (30 minutes later than our usual start time) or download our show later to hear what Jana & The Sherpa have to say on this week's edition of "4th and Inches Show" - now in our 8th season!

We're only one week into the 2017 NFL season, and already the injury bug has bitten fantasy football team owners with a vengeance.  Consensus #1 overall pick RB David Johnson will miss most, if not all, of the remaining fantasy regular season, but other big names including WR Allen Robinson, WR Kevin White, WR Danny Amendola, TE C.J. Fiedorowicz, and RB Danny Woodhead will also need to be replaced for varying amounts of time.

?Which waiver wire prospects should you be targeting this week to replace these injured players?  Whose Week 1 performances signify a breakout, and whose are to be tossed in the "small sample size/fluke" bucket?

So, you survived the first week of your fantasy football league's playoffs - or perhaps your league only starts its playoffs this week.  Either way, injuries, bad quarterback performances, and bad weather influencing games were all themes for Week 14.  With cold, nasty weather forecast for much of the northern half of the Lower 48 states the next few days, Week 15 promises more of the same.

How should you adjust your lineups to give your team the best chance to survive to fight another week?  Tune in to the 4th and Inches Show tonight at 9pm Eastern, and let Jana & The Sherpa guide you to victory!

So, it's finally here (for most fantasy football leagues) - the playoffs.  Whether your team led wire to wire or claimed the last available spot in the 11th hour, you now get a fresh start.  That first-round RB or second-round WR whose season-ending injury laid waste to your preseason research?  It doesn't matter any more.  You made it, and you're a survivor, but there's still more to be done if you want to claim your league's ultimate prize.

With so much at state which matchups should you be looking to exploit this weekend?  Which ones should you be avoiding like the plague?  Tune in tonight at 9pm Eastern, and let Jana & The Sherpa guide you to victory!

So, it's come to this - many fantasy football leagues that have 6 teams making the playoffs are playing their last regular season contests this week.  Are you in the driver's seat, with a first-round bye already clinched?  Have you already clinched a spot, and are just looking to improve your seeding?  Are you on the bubble?  Or are you just "playing for pride" this weekend?

No matter which of these categories you and your teams fall into, please tune in this Wednesday evening at 9pm Eastern as we review key injuries, rank potential waiver wire pickups, and help you set your lineups for this weekend's slate of games.  Let Jana & The Sherpa guide you to victory!

NFL Week 11 was a brutal one for injuries, regardless of position.  Andrew Luck, LeSean McCoy, A.J. Green - and that's just the tip of the iceberg.  The timing couldn't be worse for fantasy football owners on the bubble of their league's playoff picture, but thankfully this Thanksgiving week features no teams on bye, so the waiver wire options are plentiful.

Of course, not every player on the waiver wire will turn into a fantasy gem - not even close.  So, how do you separate the fantasy wheat from the chaff?  The brim from the dregs?

Tune in tonight at 9pm Eastern for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa, and let us help guide you to victory!

We're into the homestretch of the fantasy football regular season.  With just 4 weeks left before the playoffs start in most leagues, owners with a record of 5-4 or better are in decent shape; those with records of 4-5 or worse will be fighting for their fantasy lives as we enter NFL Week 10.

Which players' have extremely favorable or unfavorable matchups this weekend?  Which waiver wire options should you consider if you need a bye week replacement?  And which players may still be good buy low or sell high candidates with respect to trade offers?

So, after surviving a week featuring 6 teams with byes, guess what's on tap this week?  Yep, another week with 6 teams on bye!  Throw in a new batch of injuries, especially at running back, and it's enough to cause even the most experienced fantasy owner to question their passion for fantasy football.

Take deep breaths, and we'll get through this together . . . in the meantime, which players among the not-so-bountiful options on the waiver wire should you be targeting this week?

Injuries, a retirement, and 6 teams on bye for Week 8 - what's a fantasy football owner to do?  There are lots of good waiver wire options available in many leagues, but due to the previously mentioned factors, there's bound to be lots of bidding wars and high waiver priorities used up this week.

Which waiver wire option is best for you?  Or are you better off making a trade, and if so, which players should you be targeting?  Tune in tonight at 9:00pm Eastern for the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & The Sherpa, and let us guide you to victory!

With 6 weeks of the NFL season in the rearview mirror, your fantasy football team's prospects should be coming into focus.  If you're 4-2 or better, you're probably in good shape in your league's playoff race.  However, if you're 3-3 or worse, you likely still have some work to do on your roster in order to move up in the rankings.

Whether your team has exceeded expectations, disappointed mightily, or has drawn comparisons to the 2008 Detroit Lions, there's still time to improve your team?  How?  Start by tuning in to the 4th and Inches Show with Jana & Ther Sherpa tonight at 9pm Eastern, and let us guide you to victory!

What a strange week NFL Week 10 was - only 4 of the 14 favorites won (as in "won outright", not "covered the spread").  A good half dozen QBs lost their jobs either due to injury, ineffectiveness, or both.  The timing couldn't be worse for those trying to nail down a playoff spot in their fantasy leagues, but as always, whenever one player is hurt/replaced, opportunities are created for other players.  Which free agents and trade targets should you be chasing this week in order to secure a spot (or a better seeding) in your league's playoffs?

With two weeks in the books we're starting to get a clearer picture of which supposed playoff contenders are for real (is a Broncos vs. Seahawks Super Bowl inevitable?) and which ones may be pretenders (are the Redskins, Giants, Vikings, and Steelers really all 0-2?).  Which teams off to good starts (Dolphins, Chiefs, Bears) are for real?  Which teams off to bad starts can still right the ship and make a run at the playoffs?  We'll cover all that as we preview the 16 Week 3 games during tonight's show!
