I sat down with my friend of 15 years, Professor Mike Love. Mike and I went to EOP Summer Bridge together at SDSU back in 2005.
Mike is a community college counselor, has his Master's degree and is a professor. He has always had a passion for education, and now he has been able to share that passion with the students that he helps. As we are in our BLACK PERSPECTIVE series, I know Mike's story will inspire you to be all that you an be and make a difference in the lives of young people.
He has done a tie drive for 7 years, and has an organization called WE WILL RISE which is a community gathering of black men who encourage each other and help the community. Please support his good work and see all that he is doing. I know you will enjoy our conversation.

I had fun interviewing my former professor, turned friend, Dr. Paul Minifee. He has been a huge inspiration to me my entire adult life, and I know this interview will inspire you. He was my only black male teacher in my entire educational career. He made a big impact on me, and it was great to hear more about his academic and career journey and all the lessons he learned along the way. This is the start of the series, BLACK PERSPECTIVE. The goal is to share the diversity and complexity of the black experience in America. Dr. Minifee kicks us off by sharing his journey in higher education as a black male. I hope that you enjoy. In this episode I discuss the topics of racism, George Floyd and protesting. Race relations in the US are a hot topic and I just share a few thoughts on how we can keep this momentum going beyond this time frame and make some lasting mindset changes.
Thanks for tuning in. This topic is so important and needs to stay at the forefront of our conversations for generations to come so our children can live in a country with better race relations. It will take all of our efforts in order for that change to happen, and I hope this episode sheds a little light on this topic in the midst of all the other amazing voices on this topic as well.
My pastor Miles McPherson has a great book entitled THE THIRD OPTION: HOPE FOR A RACIALLY DIVIDED WORLD, if you would like a resource for making more progress in navigating through the topic of racism.

It is a great conversation that will encourage all the busy dads out there and especially the pastor's kids as well. We both are sons of a pastor, and we discuss the reality of that and how that comes into play in how we pastor and father our own kids as well. In this episode I share some things I have learned as I deal with the grief of my dad's sudden passing.
I also discuss an article that talks about the 7 stages of grief. I hope this encourages someone as you navigate through the grieving process or help someone else who is grieving. We all are grieving over the loss of something. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, a job, a relationship, a sense of purpose. We all grieve differently and grieve over different things. This episode sheds some light on that and can encourage you as you navigate through grief. Here is the article I reference in the episode.

Join me, Brandon Harrison for my FIRST episode of THIS IS LIFE.
The 1st episode is entitled, WHAT IS LIFE?
This is a faith based encouragement podcast to help people navigate through life. In this first episode, I give an overview of what the entire podcast will be about, and the different topics we will be discussing such as marriage, parenting, careers, college etc. I start with our Bible verse of the week and one major life lesson takeaway for the episode. Join me on this journey as I encourage you as we navigate through life together. It is easy to act like we have life all figured out, but this is a podcast to come together as a community and navigate through life's ups and downs as a family. I don't claim to know it all, but I have learned a lot, and I hope this 1st episode encourages you and starts us on our journey together!
I am a husband, father, brother, son, pastor, leader, friend who loves to encourage others as we navigate through life.
