Jamie Lynne chats about everything from current events to pop culture, tv/film, books, life and dating in Los Angeles, friendships, a non-preachy vegan lifestyle and even the supernatural in this witty, informative, and truly all over podcast that feels like the perfect combination of comfort from a bestie and empowering advice from a woman in business (she is an investor in Sugar Taco restaurants, Azucar tequila brand, and on the board of Little Bear Animal Sanctuary). Best of all, she embraces her love of emo music and shares raw, real life lessons to help us defeat the demons and non-believers.
What was meant to be a Patreon post, turned out to be an impromptu podcast episode because Jamie's phone died before she could publish it. Instead of retyping everything, she turned on the mic! We like to believe everything happens for a reason here. Jamie shares a weekly update since deplugging from her phone and social media, taking pressure off herself business-wise, and getting quiet so she could be open to her nexts steps. She explains boundaries implemented in an effort to not spread herself too thin and then details an unexpected email from someone she mentioned in last week's episode. (Shocked face emoji) She also discusses her upcoming week starting with Emo Nite this Friday where your favorite VPR girls will be doing another dj set. Then Jamie and Ivy are off to a small country town in PA, where she used to spend her summers as a child... apparently an Amish child. Have you heard of the latest Tik Tok trend, canon events? Well, Jamie just did and she questions if her entire life has been one. Then it's storytime about working for the "Satan of Downtown Los Angeles"... a story of love, betrayal, misogyny, racism, and nepotism. Somehow the story ends at the sketch comedy event years ago that was filmed for Vanderpump Rules and caused various fights including Ariana taking sketch comedy very seriously and Kristen using a "d" pic that upset a fellow castmate. Storytime continues with snippets of Jamie's previous family court battle, the struggles of single motherhood, and changes for Jamie All Over. This is an emotional episode that covers child loss. It may not be best to listen at work or on the way to work but if you carve out a moment, you may be forever changed. Natalie Weaver is one of the strongest and bravest women in the world. The first speech she ever gave went viral and she was personally thanked by President Obama. Jamie became friends with Natalie via Instagram several years ago, during a time when Natalie's daughter, Sophia, was experiencing online hate for her facial differences and disabilities. Natalie describes her fight against Twitter and Instagram to make positive change for the disabled community. Sadly, Sophia passed away in May 2019, but Natalie continues to keep her memory alive through the work of her non-profit, Sophia's Voice. Natalie discusses experiencing every parent's worst fear and how, just this week, she is feeling that fire to live again. She shares inspirational advice to anyone experiencing loss, grief, fear and hate. Stay tuned to the end for Jamie's takeaways and a message for the listener of the week, Mellabella716 aka Melanie. In this solo episode, Jamie explores the philosophy that you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with. She delves into the traits and qualities that are important in friendships, as well as when and why you should let someone go. She gives real life examples and a chilling personal tale about what can happen when we surround ourselves with the wrong people. We put so much thought and effort into a romantic partner; maybe it's time to do the same with friendships. Thank you to our listener of the week, JenLinnk, for her 5 star review! Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is remembered as an activist, a prominent leader in the civil rights movement, a pioneering historical figure and a wordsmith. The 1964 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Martin Luther King Jr. for his non-violent campaign against racism. At the time, the 35 year old King was the youngest man to have recieved the prestigious award. King's inspiring "I have a dream" speech is one of history's most well-known speeches. Therefore, I have chosen one you may not be as familliar with - the Nobel Peace Prize Award acceptance speech. In it he states, "I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant." Early release, due to tomorrow being Martin Luther King Day. I'm releasing a Bonus Episode on the holiday to honor him. Whether you live in Los Angeles, or see it in the news, there is mayhem in the city. The sheriff discusses the homeless crisis, rise in crime, and cleaning up Venice Beach. This is an eye-opening discussion and an inside look at what is really going on. It was my choice to mention George Floyd, the protests, Rodney King, and Black Lives Matter. I believe the sheriff's input about these moments in history is an important part of the conversation. I also believe other voices on the matter are important and I would love to bring anyone on as a guest who has something to say, as I do not want to speak for anyone. It is my hope that this episode will, in some way, help repair a city that I care deeply about. Thank you for listening.
