Today we celebrate Christ's resurrection with a look at the account in Matthew's gospel and the roots of our faith found in the testimony of women. Matthew invites us to "go and see" and determine for ourselves who Jesus really is. The one who was crucified now lives forever. This reality makes a quantifiable difference in the world and in our own lives.

This week Andy teaches at one of our Neighbourhood Tables on Matthew 23 and Jesus' weeping over Jerusalem, lamenting the state of the city. The judge of humanity is also the grieving king. Here, Jesus does not choose between truth and tenderness, but he is honest in his grief.

Jesus once again has a confrontation over money with the leaders in Jerusalem. This time, it concerns the matter of paying tax to the state. How do we live as Christians in a secular state? How do we live wisely and also be faithful to Jesus?

Anna continues where we left off last week in Matthew chapter 21, verse 12. Here we see a very different side of Jesus, who heads to the temple courts to drive out all those who are selling and buying goods there. This is a different side of Jesus' kingship, as he takes authority in his Father's house and addresses the many issues concerning worshipping God at the temple site. Do we have our priorities straight when it comes to worshipping Jesus?

For Lent we transition to the end of Matthew's gospel and Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem, the wild city. This will be the final week of his life, and he will continue to meet with chaos and confrontation during his time in the city. This week we ask the question - what is discipling us? The news cycle? Our anxiety? Or will we let Jesus Christ himself be our teacher?

Jesus departs from the wilderness and begins his public ministry and he calls his first disciples to come follow Him. Instead of going directly to Jerusalem, he goes to the northern-most territories of Israel and spends time teaching and healing the poor. Jesus does not cater to the powerful, but desires to see freedom from sin for the oppressed, no matter their class or social status.

In this passage Jesus is baptized by John and he aligns himself with the saving work of God. Even though he does not need to repent, Jesus chooses to step fully into Israel's story by being baptized and identifying with the need to repent that all others humans face. In this way, he shows that God's righteousness moves TOWARDS sinners, not away from them.

The Holy Spirit leads Jesus into the wild and the devil aims to disqualify Jesus from being Saviour. Everything Jesus says in response to this testing is wisdom from God written in the scriptures. In the same way, God uses these kinds of testing experiences to empower us and enable us to remain faithful throughout all seasons of life. God's love never lets go of us, even in the times of the wilderness.

Matthew fast forwards 30 years and focusses on John the Baptist, who is calling people to repent and be baptized to prepare themselves for the coming of Jesus and His kingdom. What does repentance look like for us? What separates the "wheat and chaff" people and how do we know which one we are?

Continuing the story of the holy family in the wild, the gospel of Matthew reveals a pattern for those who feel threatened and what they are willing to sacrifice. Following Jesus does not guarantee us safety and it can often mean being obedient in the darkness, but even in that darkness God is still with us.

Andy begins our new series for Epiphany, Jesus in the Wild. We turn first to Matthew chapter 2 and look at how Christ comes to those outside the people of God and makes Himself known to them. How can we trust God in uncertain places? What might God reveal to us in the wild places?

This chapter of Revelation looks closely at WHO is sitting on the throne in heaven. This same person is the only One worthy to open the scroll of history and to inherit all of the events contained there. The identity of that slain Lamb not only reveals who is on the throne in the middle of the universe, but it also reveals who we are to be and how we are to follow Him.

Looking at the second church addressed in chapter 3, Josh asks - How do we know we're okay? How do we measure if things with God are going well? We see from these addresses to individual churches that God's way of measuring our level of spiritual faithfulness is very different from our own.

Coming to the end of Acts, Andy preaches on Acts 28 and Paul's continued journey to Rome after his shipwreck and his miraculous survival of a snakebite. As his journey comes to a conclusion, we continue to see God's hand on his life as the gospel of Christ goes forward.

At his last trial, Paul gives a long account of how he became a Christian and the motivation behind his continued defence of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He has had a radical transfer of allegiance and faces great opposition for sharing this news. What does it mean to convert to Jesus Christ? How do we encourage others to make this change?

Summer is here and so is our fourth season in the book of Acts! Picking up where we left off at chapter 21:27-36, Anna reviews the themes of Acts and Paul's work to share the good news of Jesus' kingdom with non-Jews all over the ancient world. In this last section of the book, Paul returns to Jerusalem to face direct opposition to his work as an evangelist and he willingly faces great personal danger for the sake of the gospel.

Continuing in our Lenten series on Lamentations, Andy explores the theme of God's compassion in chapter 3. In ancient Hebrew poetry, the climax of the story is often in the middle instead of the end, making this chapter very significant.

For our Lenten study, we are looking at the book of Lamentations and uncovering the seeds of hope scattered there as the poet describes the emotional experience of exile. These 5 chapters are individual eulogies which serve as a funeral for a dead city (Jerusalem) and a dead nation (Israel). This week, we read about the suffering depicted in chapter 1 which was a result of Israel's habitual sin and the threads of mercy which are spread throughout the book.

Beginning at Colossians 3:17, Anna explores the section entitled the "household codes" where Paul wrestles with how Christians should live out their faith in their current context. How can we be faithful to God within a surrounding culture that does not respect and may despise what we believe? Who is in charge of our relationships? What did Jesus say about human hierarchy and how should we live this in our homes and our communities?

Starting at chapter 2:6, Andy explores how different life can look for us when we place Christ at the centre. This effects all parts of our existence: our identity, our community, our job, everything. Paul tells us that with Christ we come alive in a new way. Life with Christ brings with it new freedom for us to enjoy.

Celebrating another confirmation with us, Bishop Mike preaches on Galatians 1 and the conversion of Paul on the road to Damascus. Meeting Jesus in a powerful way, Paul changes from persecuting Christians to being one of the greatest missionaries the church has seen. Our goal as Christians is to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit who guides us, banishes our anxious thoughts, and shows us the way.

On Trinity Sunday, Bishop Mike Steward came to celebrate a confirmation service and provided a chance for us all to renew our own baptismal vows. He reminded us that we all have an open invitation to come to Jesus, the only god who himself has wounds as we do, and is eager for us to come to Him.

In the last instalment of our Nicene Creed series, Anna looks at baptism and what it means to belong to God and His kingdom.
As we come to the end of the Nicene Creed series, Josh examines the role of prophet in revealing the person of Jesus to the world.
As we come to the last section of the Nicene Creed, Andy discusses the nature of the Holy Spirit - The Lord, the Giver of Life. The Spirit brings freedom to our lives as we keep in step with God, trusting in His love for us.
Christ is risen! Looking at Colossians 3:1 to 4, Anna Spray explains that Jesus' miraculous resurrection points to our own future. This resurrection reality is the life of a Christian, and Colossians 3 encourages us to put our focus on that hopeful future.
In our last instalment in this series in John, Andy looks at the last portion of chapter 17 and Jesus' prayer for all his disciples. In his prayer, Jesus reveals his desire that we be in good relationship with God, ourselves, each other and all of creation so that we might bring glory to God the Father.
Continuing in John's gospel, Josh takes a look at the last half of chapter 16 and Jesus' final words to his disciples before he goes to the cross. To prepare them for his departure, he explains that he is the demonstration of the love the of the Father. There will be trouble ahead for them and for us, but his love and his victory will be our ultimate comfort.
Continuing in John's gospel, Andy looks at the first half of chapter 16 and how the Holy Spirit is our continuing companion after the earthly departure of Jesus.
Taking a detour from our series on the Nicene Creed, Anna takes a look at John chapter 15 and Jesus' instructions to remain in the vine.
Continuing in our series on the creed, Josh looks at Jesus as represented in the gospel of John, chapter 14 and why he describes himself as the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Continuing in our exploration of the Nicene Creed, Andy discusses the statement "For us and for our salvation he came down". In coming to earth the first time, Jesus crosses the barrier between earth and heaven because of the Father's love for us.
Josh looks at Jesus' promise to come again and what surprises that might hold. He also discusses our possible responses to Jesus' return and what we might do while we wait for him.
Merry Christmas from the Table! Anna shares the hope of the coming of Jesus and the anticipation of his coming again, bringing light and life to our darkness.

Continuing the exploration of the person of Jesus as written in the Nicene Creed, Andy discusses Jesus' incarnate nature - he was made man, although he was divine. In Jesus, God chooses to become a part of creation in order to pursue us.
This week Josh discusses Jesus as the best and only person to trust with all of who we are because of who he is. He is the firstborn of God, and he has supremacy in everything, holding in his person the fullness of God. In the face of Jesus we see the glory and goodness of God.
This week Andy explores the next section of the Nicene Creed that speaks about God as Creator - maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. How is God distinct as an un-created being? How do we understand his categories of existance?
In our second week on the Nicene Creed, Anna examines what it means to name God as both Almighty and Father. How do we understand and relate to these 2 different aspects of who God is?

Looking at Beatitude 8, Anna discusses Jesus' hard teaching on persecution - Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. How do we live in the tension between our life on earth and our call to live kingdom values here and now?
This week, Josh takes a look at the 6th Beatitude - What does it mean to be pure in heart, and how does this help us see God? How can the goodness of Jesus be greater than the badness in and around us, and how can this goodness rub off on us?
In this next instalment on the Beatitudes, Andy looks at the promise that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be blessed. What does this mean? Why and how do we desire righteousness in such a visceral way?
New Year, new series! For 2023 we are starting with reading through the Beatitudes from Matthew chapter 5, Jesus most well known sermon. What is the blessed life and how do we live it?
Merry Christmas! Looking at the traditional Christmas passage from Luke 2, Andy examines the familiar scene of the Incarnation and the good news announcement of the arrival of Jesus. Greater than Moses, Jesus goes between God and broken humanity to make it possible for us to be closer to God and His goodness.
Turning this week to Hebrews chapter 8, Anna looks at the covenant promises of God to redeem humanity and Jesus as God's greatest expression of love to us.
Based on John chapter 1, Bishop Dan examines what it means for Jesus to be called the Word, the ultimate self-disclosure of God Himself, and what implications this might have for us.
Looking at Genesis 2, 3, and Revelation 21, Josh traces the biblical command to rest throughout old and new testaments. If rest is the climax of God's creation, how do we practise sabbath as God does? How do we put rest at the beginning of our weekly commitments and work from a place of being already refreshed?
Anna takes a look at the 9th command to not bear false witness against one another and discusses the connection between our speech and our relationships. How can we be people of our word as God is? How can we love our neighbours through every word we utter and those that are left unsaid?
Starting with Song of Songs chapter 8 and continuing into the New Testament, Josh discusses the challenging topic of adultery. How do we honour companionship with others and prevent our relationships from going sour? And what do we do when we fail? Can we trust God with our deepest desires or will we go somewhere else for comfort?
Exploring the meaning of the 5th command as laid out in Exodus 20:12, Andy addresses how to honour your parents and those close to you by giving weight to those we might be tempted to take for granted.

Our last offering in the Being Together Again Series, Andy takes a look at Romans 15:14 to 21 and what true friendship looks and how to come alongside one another.
Continuing in Romans 15 beginning at v. 7, Anna discusses the challenge of being in community with people that are different from ourselves and following the command to love one another.
This week, Josh takes us through the first 6 verses of Romans 15 as he talks about how we can bear with one another and build one another up, even in the midst of our disagreements and divisions.
Looking at the next portion of Romans 14, Andy talks about how we can live life with one another based on who God is, what he has done for us, and how He has made us. Having a new identity in Christ and being adopted into God's life calls us into a completely new way of life.
For our Neighbourhood Table discussion, Andy looks at Romans 14:1-12 and talks about how we all have the same common need to belong to a place and to a group of people.
This week, Josh looks at Romans 13:11 to 14 as he discusses how we might use and experience time individually even while we are together.
This week, we continue the discussion on paying the debt of love as we look at Romans 5 and ask the question - How can we forgive one another when we don't feel like it?
Continuing in our Being Together Again Series, Anna guides us through a look at Romans 13:8 to 10 as we ask - how do I love my neighbour? What exactly does God call us to in our relationships with each other?
Taking a look at Romans 12:9-21, Andy asks the question: why is it so hard to love people?
And how can God help us do it?
Looking at Romans 12:3-8, Andy talks about how part of being together again involves realizing that we are actually members of one another.
Freshly back from his sabbatical, Andy shares with us from Matthew 28:16-20, detailing what it would have been like to be one of Jesus' disciples around the events of his death and resurrection. We want to make what is core to the Christian Faith also core to our own hearts.Most of us want to be “better” and want to grow. “The better” in the Christian story is growing into “the Best” - Jesus. God devised a plan where He takes our worst, which is not good enough for His standards, the way of love, and transforms us from the inside out. Because of God’s great mercy and love shown for us in Christ, we are now free to respond to God’s transforming love in our own lives.

From the earliest times of Israel’s relationship with God they were forbidden to make images of God. Instead, God wanted to give them words. And, it turns out, that God’s favourite word is “Jesus” which means, “God will save”. This particular Word is so potent that it becomes in image, God’s Self-Portrait, to show the whole world that we can know something about the goodness and glory of God.
