There is a strong impulse among Evangelical and Reformed Bible expositors to read Scripture through a Christocentric interpretive lens. Despite that this principle of interpreting Scripture arises from a sincere desire to honor Christ, it nevertheless undermines the normal grammatical-historical hermeneutic. Thus, Christocentric interpretation is almost certain to wreak devastating results and risks leading even the most well-meaning biblical expositor to commit hermeneutical malpractice.

From Acts and the epistles, we see ugly struggles in the early church - even among Christians, and I have weathered sometimes severe conflicts in three of the five churches I pastored.
