Martin was delighted to welcome Ian Kerr, Chairman of the Royal Portrush Open Championship Committee 2025, back into the studio to talk about the success of this year's championship. For seven glorious days in July Portrush was the golfing world's epicentre and at it's core was a very dedicated team from Royal Portrush Golf Club who delivered an event that truly showcased what Northern Ireland has to offer. We talk about the tournament, the lessons learned from 2019 and the economic value created by the event's return.

Bethpage Black was a successful hunting ground for team Europe but it was also the most hostile crowd in the Ryder Cup's history. Our respect for the players has gone through the roof as they prevailed despite the naked hostility and boorishness from the American fans. Did the PGA lose control, did this Ryder Cup tip over acceptable behavioural limits, what can be done to ensure future Ryder Cups do not follow a similar descent into unruly chaos? Martin and Des get together to celebrate an epic overseas win but also to discuss the many unsavoury incidents that somewhat marred the joy of a Ryder Cup weekend.

Our last episode of 2023 sees us try to remember stuff that could easily have been forgotten from this year. We also talk about our favourite golfing experiences of this year plus have a surprise visit from one of our irregular correspondents. We start debating a 'cool' nickname for our listeners although I am not yet sure that we have found a long term answer. Anyone with a good suggestion please let us know.
On behalf of Martin, Des and young Mike can I thank all of our listeners for continuing to tune into the episodes and give us constructive feedback. We are also extremely grateful to our various guests who have supported our endeavours in 2023. We will see you all again (hopefully) in 2024.

As we approach Christmas 2023 Martin, Des and young Mike compile their golfing 'naughty or nice' list for 2023. Some choices are obvious but plenty of debate ensues regarding other suggestions. We all thought 2022 was the most turbulent year in professional golf but 2023 has not lacked excitement, intrigue, betrayal, uncertainty, arrogance and even some potential redemption. A light hearted assessment of who should get presents this Christmas and who should spend time on the naughty step.
Huge thanks to all our guests in 2023 and an even bigger thanks to our wide and varied audience in some 46 countries. We wish all of you a merry and peaceful Christmas holiday period.

Martin and Des spend some time assessing the outcomes of LIV's second season. Have they made real progress or is the initial novelty wearing off. A couple of players have undoubtedly played well but will we ever really see them again in the majors as their exemptions start to expire. With the Framework Agreement seemingly going to miss its' 31st December deal deadline and world events starting to impact discussions, do we really think 2024 sees a unified Tour incorporating the PIF? Certainly LIV is trying to live up to it's slogan "golf but louder" as we head into their offseason. Interact with the podcast via our Twitter/X portal @ITFOG_podcast

How long did he take to settle, did he keep the famous white boiler suit, just how green is the grass and how does the Masters compare to the very different experience of a US Open? We cover many topics from the book including Greg's motivation, Mr PIF's limitless cash, the true reasons behind the trojan horse that is LIV Golf, the OWGR's decision not to grant ranking points and 'hatgate'. Also we discover where Alan would choose to play his perfect round. Huge thanks to Alan for sharing his time with us.

Martin and Des share their thoughts on the RBC Heritage from Harbour Town and explore whether bias affects their enjoyment of this particular event. Recorded just after the first PGA player confirms seeking a release to play the inaugural LIV Golf event (really the SGL) in June, are the flood gates about to open or will we continue to be underwhelmed? The boys debate which opening hole in Northern Ireland is the most difficult (as well as which hole is the easiest opener) and also expand on their previous discussion regarding the toughest competitor in sport. Martin, Des and young Mike share their opinions on the 2022 Masters from Augusta. Many debating points including was Tyrell Hatton right to criticise the course setup, should relief be granted from fixed TV towers, is Tiger the greatest competitor of all time in any sport, should Bo have been blamed by Shane and is Rory now on course to win big in 2022. However, congratulations go the Scottie Scheffler on his win and silencing the armchair sceptics (ourselves included) who doubted whether he was really the number 1 player in the world. Martin, Des and young Mike reflect on the Dell WGC Matchplay event from Austin, Texas. Opinions on the course, the format, the good, the bad and the ugly from this event which hoisted Scottie Scheffler to the world number 1 position.
Additionally the boys reflect on reaching the milestone of 50 ITFOG episodes and pick out a few of their favourite topics and guests since we launched in September 2020. However, it was not long until discussions came around to the upcoming Masters and our choices of players likely to contend for the opening Major of 2022.
Finally the boys find out how young Mike's attempt to register for the first LIV Golf event foundered for the lack of a PGA membership number. Interact with the podcast via our Twitter portal @ITFOG_podcast

Martin and "young Mike" discuss many of the recent events in golf as Des recovers from his St Patrick's Day revelries. Originally intended to drop on Paddy's Day but held back as more information finally surfaced from Greg Norman @ LIV Golf (really the SGL) and has now put dates, courses and prize funds onto our radars.  The boys also recap the weirdly difficult Bay Hill Invitational, the Players Championship (which felt like the longest event on planet golf) and briefly recap on the true dullness of the Valspar at Innisbrook. Also Tiger's induction to the World Golf Hall of Fame and the revelation that he might in fact be Bruce Wayne, Jay Monahan's response to questions about Phil and the SGL, and also Greg's insistence that it should be called LIV Golf (really the SGL).  A longer than normal episode with some answers but many more questions like who is/are LIV Golf (really the SGL). Martin, Des and young Mike discuss recent events around Riviera, the Honda Classic and the ongoing drama surrounding Phil Mickelson's spectacular fall from grace. With Phil (and his shadowy co-conspirators) running for cover after the Alan Shipnuk revelations, where next for Greg and the SGL. Sponsors have deserted Phil but will he be alone in facing fallout over the proposed breakaway league? Will Greg really try and litigate with the PGA over their "restrictive" practices? So many angles to the story that is a podcasters content nirvana.

Martin, Des and young Mike (ITFOG's resident young person) discuss the extraordinary weekend of events both on and off the course.  TPC Scottsdale put on a golfing show of epic (and somewhat unusual) proportions which included not one, but two aces at the infamous 16th hole. The resulting celebrations will not be quickly forgotten. Charley Hoffman went off the deep end over a ruling, a new tour superstar was born, Scottie Scheffler got his first win and Phil Mickelson decided that the best way forward was to set fire to everything behind. The SGL gets ever closer, the gloves are coming off and there is plenty to discuss. With thanks to @sam_golf for allowing us to use an extract from his new song "Growing the game", a thinly veiled barb at former heroes who are throwing fans away with little thought. Over the last year Sam has produced songs for both the US Open and the Ryder Cup, only this month he performed some songs at the PGA show in Orlando. However, Sam is more than just a musician, he is a keen observer/fan of the game of golf despite his own admission of stalled progress in his game improvement plan. Find out where Sam has played, where he would like to play, his dream fourball, which tour players have interacted with him about his songs, and enjoy Sam correcting Martin on some failed research (Des certainly enjoyed it).
