True worship has a direct object. We can't participate in it until we completely surrender. It's a choice. It's yielding to the Holy Spirit. If Jesus isn't the focus, if His character isn't elevated, if He isn't worshipped and adored, it isn't true worship.

A letter was written to the church of Philadelphia, and it is one out of two letters with no rebuke from Jesus. Verse 8 clarifies by stating, 'I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me.

Jesus said to the church of Sardis, "I know your works; you have a name of being alive, but you are dead." This is a call for radical honesty and self-reflection for the church today. How can we learn from the church of Sardis? Verse 3 clearly states the solution to the problem: "Remember, then, what you have received and heard; obey and repent." It starts by realizing how we are self-deceived. Repent, turn away from your sins, and obey God's voice.
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: The Book of Revelation // Steve Anderson // Revelation 3:1-2
Who are we, and why are we here? People don't serve in their church for two reasons: first, they think someone else will do it or feel they are unqualified for the volunteer position. The Bible has a different truth regarding serving the house of the Lord. Everything made, including you, is His workmanship and a masterpiece creation. You are needed. Every member of the body of Christ is significant. 1 Corinthians 12 states that God has arranged all the different parts of the body. Even the parts that seem to be weaker than others are necessary. The expectation is simple: to put yourself out there because you were created and saved to do more than attend church.

There is a behavior that Jesus wants to illuminate, and there is behavior that Jesus wants to eliminate both from the church in Thyatira and for us today. David Mitchell addresses these behaviors by looking at Revelation 2:18-29. When Jesus speaks to the church in Thyatira, He first highlights a few behaviors that He notices, like "Love, faith, service, and endurance," but then He continues by saying, "Nevertheless, I have this against you..." The church in Thyatira is tolerating a woman called Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet, but she is evil in the eyes of God. The same is true for today; we as a church tolerate a culture and behavior that is not from God. How do we get rid of these behaviors out of the church? By repentance and force.

Continuing our series in Revelation, Pastor Greg focuses our attention on aligning our heart's desires with God's in the act of obedience.
Jesus has some issues with the sin of the church of Pergamum. In Revelation 2: 12-17, Jesus expresses His anger towards the sin of tolerating idolatry and sexual sin. The way Jesus addresses these issues applies directly to our culture. It means it's a word for the church today. Why is Jesus addressing these issues? Because we are responsible to Him for each other, we are responsible to each other before Him. We are part of one thing; we are part of one body. But yet, we are introduced to a life that we would compromise, which Jesus has not called us to live.

Where in our lives can we better partner with God, rather than the Enemy? Pastor Greg teaches us through Revelation 2: 12-17 about the church of Pergamum and the cautions we can learn. Jesus reveals His authority through the two-edged sword, which cuts through deception and reaffirms the revelation that He is truth. Pergamum was defined as the great throne of Satan. He challenges us on our theology about Satan and how not to permit him or through our words and actions; instead, Jesus wants our faithfulness and loyalty and our communications with others covered in love.
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: Revelation // Gary Peters // Revelation 2:8-11
The letter to Symrna was not acknowledging their works but their suffering. Pastor Gary is taking us through Revelation 2:8-11, explaining the meaning of suffering. Suffering means to be tormented, troubled, bewildered, confused, and worried. What is the mystery of suffering? If you ask for an answer to your sufferings, you will never get a satisfying answer. We all want the fellowship of the resurrection and the power, but no one wants to be part of the fellowship of Jesus' suffering. Lastly, God is not out there to get you; if we set certain things in motion, there will be consciences. Look at the church of Symrna; they are suffering because of their choices of serving God.

Proverbs 29 verse 18 states, 'Where there is no vision, people perish.' The word vision means "divine guidance." That word teaches us the value, priority, and necessity of having the proper perspective. It is possible to have two visions - God's and your vision which results in division. It is our responsibility to manage and seek God's vision. It is easy to tell God our vision and want Him to submit to it when he calls us to seek His will and submit to it wholeheartedly. Pastor Greg is taking us through the results of 2023 and casting a fresh vision for 2024.

Three things are hidden in the Ark of the Covenant: A golden jar containing manna, representing God's provision over our needs. Then there was Aaron's staff. The staff was an almond branch, but this branch never dried up; it always budded. It represents this picture of hope - if we place our hope in Jesus, we will never be disappointed. Lastly, there were the stone tablets with the Ten Commandments. (Hebrews 9:1-5) The Ten Commandments are based on faith, hope, and love (1 Corinthians 13:13). What can we learn from the Ark of the Covenant? In the blood of Jesus, we have the promise of faith (provision), hope, and love.

A Nicolaitan is any person, inner voice, or appetite which teaches us that it is permissible to continue in unrepentant sin. Nicolaitanism conquers Christians by invalidating their discipleship. It deceives them into believing they are followers of the Lord, while they neglect to follow Him in their everyday heart attitudes, choices, and behaviors. The greatest danger of Nicolaitanism is not the moral degradation but the outright denial of the Gospel. Jesus did not enter our world so that we might partake of good manners or morals. Rather, God sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him (1 John 4:9).

There are attributes of ourselves which the Lord loves and attributes which He hates. Why does Jesus hate these things? At the end of His address to Ephesus, Jesus promises: "To everyone who conquers, I will give permission to eat from the tree of life that is in the paradise of God" (v.2). The Lord is compassionate. He hates anything that stands in the way of our partaking in life, truth, and the paradise He prepared for us. How can we identify the things the Lord hates? First, we can look at figures like the Nicolaitans and learn from their mistakes.

The Church of Ephesus did a great job of doing the right things for the Kingdom of God, but they lacked the aspect of loving Jesus, which was more important. Jesus is the husband of the Church, and the Church is His bride. The Church of Ephesus left their first love. We can learn from the Church of Ephesus by identifying where we fell out of love with Jesus. We should follow Jesus' lead - Just as He loves His Bride, the Church, so should we love His Bride. When we don't live in love, we contradict Jesus because He is love.

Do you have the ears to hear God's voice? As we dive into Revelation 2:1-7, we will learn that hearing is a posture of listening. The Scripture states, "Anyone who is willing to hear should listen to the Spirit and understand what the Spirit is saying to the churches." God's voice is available for anyone who fine-tunes His voice. It takes a posture of obedience and attention to His Spirit.

How does Jesus reveal Himself to you?
Jesus revealed Himself to John in Revelation 1:13-16. What did Jesus say to John before He showed Himself? "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the one who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." No one in history has witnessed Jesus in more historical ways than John. It's very possible that they encountered each other in their youth - John has seen Jesus physically like no other man. But, Jesus, who now is, drives John to his knees, overcome with the fear of the Lord in verse 17. As believers in the 21st century, we long for the 2nd Coming, the Jesus who is to come. What if we can focus on Jesus who now is?
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: Revelation // David Mitchell // Revelation 1:9-20
John, the Apostle, is helping us to understand in Revelations 1:4-20 that we, as followers of Jesus, will experience hard times. This Book has been turned into something about predicting the future, but John is writing this letter to inject courage into God's people, that we would need to patiently endure great sufferings because we have been made to be in the Kingdom of God whose inheritance is not here on earth but in God Himself. Through this letter to the seven churches, John begins to help them fix their eyes on the King. To patiently endure all suffering, we must keep our eyes on Jesus. Where in your life do you need to turn your eyes on Jesus again?
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: Revelation // Greg Sanders // Revelation 1:4-8
John's statement in Revelation 1:4-8 is clear that Jesus is the one. He is the source you need to align your life with.
In our culture, we have competing voices. The idea of the fear of the Lord is that amid these competing voices, we won't deviate from Jesus because He is it. Looking at the end, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. That should mean that Jesus is not an idea, but He is it. John is evident in his vision; we must decide if Jesus is the one. This should cause this formational truth in us to be like, "I don't need to wonder anymore. I am aligning my life with Him. Because I know He is more intelligent than me, He knows more than me, and I'm choosing to follow Him because He is it."
Vintage City Church // The Fear Of The Lord // Greg Sanders
Do you know what the fear of the Lord is? Proverbs 1:7 explains, "Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline." In this verse, the Hebrew word for fear of the Lord is reverent/reverence, which means to assume/respect God knows best. It's to have an attitude like, "I obey regardless of what I know or how I feel when the Lord speaks." Proverbs says that whoever stays on the right path fears the Lord. We know the level at which we fear the Lord is by the willingness we obey how He says to live. That means for us as a church; the Lord is giving us a word, which is to grow in fear of the Lord, which means we need to press pause on everything in our lives and start to assess our life according to the fear of the Lord.
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: Revelation // Dustin Scott // Revelation 1:4-20
In Today's message, Pastor Dustin helps us understand the context, meaning, and application of the truths in The Book of Revelation 1:4-20. Have you thought about if you have areas in your life where you cling to people and other kingdoms more than Jesus, the Person of truth? Or would you say you are more distracted by earthly kingdoms than God's Kingdom? The message for Today encourages us to cling to Jesus tirelessly, the Witness to an embodiment of truth. Why? Because the enemy always attacks truth and temps us to bite the bait of falsity, it's our call and privilege to engage in and receive life in God's truths. How do we do that? We must draw near to God by spending more time with Him, digging deeper into His Word, and consulting the wisdom found in the Church Body. We are called to repent of believing in Satan's falsity and lies and embrace the King and His truths and His riches, clinging to God's Kingdom and not the earthly kingdoms.

Are you willing to allow Jesus to correct what's detrimental in your life? Revelation is a single letter to seven churches. Through this letter, God is honoring what is honorable and correcting what is detrimental. We need to expect this same type of treatment from Him in our personal lives.
True discipleship is to be a learner under His discipline. He loves us, cares for us, and places us in situations where we can depend on Him. Instead of leaning on our own understanding, we must learn to trust Him. What we need for life and growth is found alone in Him.
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: Revelation // Greg Sanders // Revelation 1:1-4
The Book of Revelation is often misunderstood by modern-day beliefs. This new study invites us to consider the message of Revelation as a very real and relevant message for the church today. It is not a message about the end times or "What is to come." It is an opportunity to capture the truth of what God is trying to tell us. To capture what God tells us, we must put on three lenses, like the Heavenly Lense, the Earthy Lense, and the Jesus Lens. These letters that John, the beloved Apostle of Jesus, wrote have hidden truths to the seven churches that carry a very poignant message for the people of God today and for Vintage. It is our responsibility to listen and act on this message. Blessed is the one who hears and obeys what God says.
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: RESET // David Mitchell // Psalm 51:1-19
When have you sabotaged the goodness of God in your life? The story of David committing adultery in 2 Samuel 11 and David's prayer for repentance in Psalm 51 shows us a pathway to redemption. The prayer he prayed in Psalm 51 offers us a glimpse of David's shattered heart. After he committed adultery and tried to cover up his sins with more sins, David reached a place of correction, a place of re-directing himself to the will of God. David demonstrates that repenting out of conviction is possible after sinning. It's possible to return to the person God called you to be. For David, he returned to the person he once was - a Shepherd, a King, a Worshipper.
Repent today and return to our Sovereign God.
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: RESET // Greg Sanders // Psalm 25:1-10
In today's message. Pastor Greg teaches us that God looks at us through the lens of His Son. Jesus doesn't remember us according to our sins but according to His love for us. Like Psalm 25 states, "Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways..." If we humble ourselves and ask God to show us His way and favor, we'll find Him overflowing us with His goodness and giving us the desire to please Him. Pastor Greg encourages us today through this message that when we live in a way, He teaches us to live and obey what His Word is teaching us, we will experience God's supernatural favor in our lives.

Are you living with discipline, or are you living with regret? Pastor Gary takes us through the story of David in 2 Samuel 11. As we know, King David is famous for his reputation. He conquers historic enemies of Israel. He even slays the giant in the valley of Elah. But for some reason, David hit a wall. Instead of being with his army fighting in a war, he stayed behind. That is where David took someone else's wife and slept with her. Was David out of discipline? Many of us can relate to David. How do we reset amid the seasons of life and hurt?
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: RESET // Greg Sanders // Acts 2:41-42
Pastor Greg takes us through Acts 2:41-42. This passage reveals the activity of the early Church. The early Church heard Paul's message, got baptized, and were added to the Church. What are we doing differently? Those who followed the early Church did so at a great cost. It cost them their time, their talents, and treasure. They joined other believers and devoted themselves to the apostles' teachings and fellowship. Today, we invite you to join us to participate in the Church actively. Join a Team. Join other believers and allow their influence. It is important to know others and to be known by others.

Pastor Greg Sanders wraps up the final portions of Romans 12 in this teaching. As believers, we are called to walk in obedience through our call to live in harmony with others. We are called to take one step further by owning our responsibility and taking the initiative to live in harmony with others. Today, we invite you to consider how we approach the relationships around us. Do we take a fleshly and worldly approach to our loved ones and enemies? Or do we choose to lay down our worldly perspective and put on the nature of Jesus?

What is our attitude supposed to be toward our government and authority in our lives? To rebel against authority is ultimately to rebel against God because God is sovereign and places people in authority. When you place your trust in God's sovereignty, you will be amazed at His goodness. It is important that we respect and honor those who are in authority because we are called to put true humility on display. There are times, however, when we can respectfully question or refuse authority. When considering this, here are some questions to address: Does the request or demand of authority violate scripture? This is not your interpretation of scripture but the true meaning of it. It is important to seek council for this. Is refusing authority on this specific topic a hill to die on? Are we willing to suffer the consequences of the decision? We need to be people that understand that convictions are varied and different. Let's be a people of grace for one another.

Have you ever noticed, on a given day, how many laws and how much authority you are subject to? Think about it. While driving, we are under the authority of the police. If we report to a boss at work, we are under their jurisdiction. What is our relationship with those authorities? Anytime we have authority over us other than God, it will be messy and painful. We were always designed to be under God's authority, and when man's authority challenges that authority, we have a choice to make. We have the opportunity to discern the word of God and practice what Jesus modeled to us by praying, "Lord, not my will, but your will be done."

How does the world perceive our faith? Throughout our study of Romans, we've referred to Romans 12 as "Paul's commentary" on Jesus' teaching of the Sermon on the Mount. He is challenging believers to consider how they live out the truth of their faith because we are to be giving thought to what is right before all humanity. We must ask ourselves if our behavior is peaceful, genuine, gentle, and inviting the world around us to know Jesus. What does it look like to be a people of peace? This week, we encourage you to pause and turn to Him so that His voice will transform us into gentle rightness capable of bringing all humanity to repentance.
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: The Evidence of Faith // Greg Sanders // Romans 12:13-14
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to behave generously in all aspects of life, both within and outside the church's walls. Paul urges us to contribute to the needs of the saints and serve those around us, as Jesus modeled that by saying, "I came to serve and not be served." Pastor Greg Sanders provides tools and practical applications of how to honor people and remain in a generous spirit when we are inevitably faced with conflict and cursing in our lives: to highlight the good in everyone and bring that before the Lord, refusing to let anger, resentment, or bitterness set in. Our challenge is to continually mirror the example left by Jesus and remain willing to be hospitable in the midst of conflict. It ultimately reflects what we believe about God's character and heart towards us.

Each of us has a unique function in the Body of Christ. Romans 12 highlights how important it is to explore what gifts He has given us and how we can function well in them to serve not only our church but our community and city as a whole. As the Body, we need all parts to work correctly, and when we focus on the whole, everything points to Jesus.
Vintage City Church // Teaching Series: The Evidence of Faith // Greg Sanders // Romans 12:1-2
God's will for our lives is fully knowable but not easily accessible. It requires submission to His process. Our bodies are to be a living sacrifice for God and His glory. We must lay down what we want for what He wants for us. We have a choice to allow God to shape us and not allow it to be the world around us. Unless we create the space for Him to transform our minds and thinking, we risk missing His will and what He is doing in our lives.
