After Van Halen was forced to make an album with half cover songs in 1982, Eddie Van Halen wanted control of their musical future so he built a studio in his back yard. 5150. Van Halen's single Jump was a massive hit that expanded their audience even wider than it already was. With MTV giving them airplay, and a huge successful tour Van Halen had made it to the top. Tensions within the band were also reaching its peak and that lead to the split between DLR and Van Halen. In 1992 Roger Waters released the follow-up to Radio K.A.O.S. This album was not huge in sales, but the music and narrative are quite amazing. Roger Waters puts this album up with 'Dark Side & The Wall' Do You Agree? The World Needs A Hero! After the negative reception of 1999's 'Risk' Dave Mustaine made the decision to have Megadeth return to their thrash roots. Megadeth's 'Youthanasia' was the follow-up to the very successful 'Countdown to Extinction'. It had a huge act to follow. Released in a completely different music climate than 'Countdown' Youthanasia sold well and was received well overall.
