Our current series is called the Capstonavirus, a homage to those who have put their souls into senior thesis projects in colleges to only be cut short at the presentation of their work by a pandemic. Here's to passionate people making other people passionate.
Description: Get ready for an episode combining food and history. Two of our favorite things! Bill Le (Bachelor of Arts in French & Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, PLU '20) talks about cultural hybridity with food through the creation of cuisine by cultures in response to French colonization. Bill goes in depth on the composition of the Bánh mì sandwich as well as the history that countries such as Martinique have had with the French and how we can see that in their cuisine and drink today. This is an incredibly gripping capstone showing a new take on how to look at the food we eat. We also look at some of the wacky stories around the globe in C&N News again and we go into Bill's mind to see how he likes to organize his phone. We talk about his vocational pursuit of music and what drove him to ultimately perform his capstone using the vibraphone. Vibes man, vibes. We also discuss his future plans as he moves to Florida and no episode is complete without a C&N News segment where, in honor of Eric's departure for Florida, we discuss "Florida Man" news and why you may want to think twice about going to a Wendy's in Florida. We also talk about larger problems in healthcare and perspectives fresh Lutes will bring to healthcare to innovate solutions to solve these huge problems in health disparities. Whoa, what a show. You know him from literally everywhere on campus, it is Todd Dizon from Kennewick, WA (Bachelors of Arts in History, PLU '20) joining us to talk about his history capstone today! Todd has a capstone on the history of alcohol as a social practice in American fraternities. Listen to Todd and us have a conversation about how the drinking culture in frats has developed as well as his future in the military and his time here at PLU in ROTC! CandN news is getting a bit 'crappy' but we've got some great stories to talk about as well as great insight on how Todd organizes his phone. Natalie is a PASSIONATE geoscience major who has organized her phone to take a look at one of the things in the world that means the most to her... a glacier. Natalie talks about how to use chemistry to determine how wild a glacier has been through time. We also talk about her one true love, Ratatouille and of course, Crocs. She completed her capstone this semester on elderly patients and the use of restraints in decreasing positive outcomes for people struggling with dementia in the hospital. Even something that sounds so scientific has ethics and philosophy intertwined with it which we delve into during this episode. Nature is healing during the corona… coronavir*s and we have biologist, ecologist, Earth-saver, Kenzie Davidson (Bachelors of Science in Biology and Environmental Studies, PLU ‘20) to talk about her capstone in Environmental Studies which is about how the health of the Inuit populations are being degraded by pollution. She also shares her journey to becoming zero-waste and some products that have helped Kenzie attain such an ambitious goal.
