LIFE MORE ABUNDANT

I’ve been doing some thinking lately …

What’s been on my mind for these past few months — since I stumbled upon a set of eye-opening books by Gene Landrum, Ph.D. — is why so many entrepreneurs fail.

Why is it that some people seem to have what it takes to build successful businesses, while others tend to start and stop, start and stop?

Is the prospect of entrepreneurial achievement something that only the few among us are born with, or is it learned?

If you’re an entrepreneur, or you aspire to start your own business, what exactly is it that’s getting in the way of your entrepreneurial greatness?

I woke up. No really, I literally woke up. It was a Tuesday morning a couple weeks ago. I’d spent much of the previous 3 or 4 days attempting to be fully present at Lisa Nichols’ live event while simultaneously cramming for an interview with Danielle Laporte like it was final exams week. Story of my …

It’s a question I get all the time …

“How do you make money doing a FREE podcast?”

Well, uhhhhhhhh.

Honestly, the way I earn a living is so unconventional I seldom feel like explaining it. And when I actually do take the time to break it down to someone, they either think I’m lying, that it sounds way too good to be true, or their eyes glaze over about twelve seconds in.

But seriously, I feel like if more people knew how I earned a living, there might be way less people sitting in traffic every morning headed to jobs they hate. They’d have more time to spend with loved ones. And they’d be able to contribute to the world in the most remarkable ways.

I mean, if you really think about it, about 90% of the emails I send you have no product offer. No sales pitches. Just FREE content that helps people, without some kind of underlying agenda. It’s truly what I love to do.

But I also have to earn a living. Of course I can’t buy food or pay my mortgage with Les Brown clips and Bob Proctor interviews, ya know.

So let me pull back the curtain and show you how this whole thing works in 5 simple steps.

Guest: Dr. Michael Breus I wanted to be a party animal…

But to be part of the party crowd you kinda have to be able to stay awake past midnight.

Uh, not happening.

Can’t say I didn’t try, though. No matter what I did, my best intentions for a Friday night would crumble amid a bad case of the yawns and heavy eyelids …. at 10pm.

I mean, people were just starting to come out and I was ready to go home.

It was so frustrating! I couldn’t understand how people could stay out all night and still function. It made no sense.

Now, almost three years after turning in my “bar and club scene” card, I finally get it.

I’m a Lion.

In other words, I’m genetically wired to wake up early, get things done, crash in the afternoon, and hit the hay while the Wolves and Dolphins are getting ready to paint the town red.

Guest: Sean Croxton I’ve always wondered…

What would it be like if I could interview myself?

Would I be able to open myself up?

Make myself cry?

Go places where no interviewer has ever gone before?

Of course, these are all questions that I’ll never be able to answer since interviewing myself is pretty much impossible. Though it would be fun to try.

But this week’s episode of The Sessions is probably as close as I’ll ever get to knowing what such an experience would feel like.

Guest host and long-time listener, Sean Baker, does a masterful job of peeling back the layers to reveal parts of me and my story that very few people ever knew.

Guest: Jake Ducey I’ve come with good news!

The podcast will be back with a brand new episode tomorrow afternoon with a pretty in-depth and vulnerable interview with yours truly.

Then we’ve got sessions coming up with sleep expert, Dr. Michael Breus, as well as the greatest therapist of all-time, Mr. Matt Sanders, revealing how men can get in touch with their Intimate Power.

Before we get to the new stuff, I wanted to make sure you were all caught up. Last month I recorded and uploaded a stellar interview with our pal Jake Ducey … BUT I never got around to posting it on the website.

Sorry. :(

Jake’s latest and third book, Profit from Happiness, is a must-read for anyone who feels disengaged, disempowered, and/or unfulfilled at the workplace.

According to a Gallup survey, that’s 71 percent of the workers these days. In other words, about 3/4 of us are spending most of our waking hours doing something we don’t like or even care about.

No bueno. We can’t let this keep happening.

So in today’s episode (well, actually last month’s episode) Jake and I discuss how you can find more energy, empowerment, and fulfillment … even at a job you’re NOT passionate about.

We’ll even show you how you can make more money while you’re at it.

I was having a difficult time coming up with something to write about for this week’s episode of The Sessions. Just haven’t been feeling very creative this week for some reason.

And then I heard that Prince passed away.

I can remember being a little boy, maybe eight years old or so, walking around the house with my Fisher Price boombox, playing Purple Rain, 1999, and Little Red Corvette.

Not only did I admire Prince’s musical genius, but I loved the fact that he was … different.

I mean, the guy would go on stage wearing high heels, skin tight leather pants, see-through tops, and fuzzy pink scarves!

For every person who hated him for his eccentricities, there was someone who LOVED him and wanted to be just like him.

It was as if he gave his fans the inspiration and permission to be themselves. To wear what they wanted to wear. To say what they wanted to say. With no need for anyone else’s approval.

I think we all wish we could be that way. Fully expressed.

I’m on a train.

Headed back home from Los Angeles, where I watched Kobe Bryant drop 60 points and score the go-ahead basket in his last game ever.

If it were a Hollywood movie, it would have been the corniest ending ever. The injury-plagued, over-the-hill superstar turns back the clock and gives his fans one final electric performance.

But it happened. In real life. I saw it with my own eyes.

Being a Kobe Bryant fan since I was 18, I’ve always been fascinated by his work ethic. The 4am workouts. The daily routine. First one to practice. Last one to leave.

While his teammates partied, he was fast asleep. Because at 4am the next morning it would all begin again. A lifetime of routine days shaping an extraordinary career.

Love him or hate him, if there’s one thing we can all be certain of, it’s that Kobe Bryant will never look back on his career and wonder how great he could have been. There was no procrastinating. No resting on his laurels. He did what very few of us ever do.

He gave it his all.

Everyone's got one.

That annoying voice in our heads that tell us what we can't do, who we can't be, and why we can't do it. Our inner critic.

When we commit to moving forward, it takes joy in stopping us.

When we wish to speak up, it seals our lips and paralyzes the tongue.

When all we want is to say yes, it tells us no.

The inner critic is the voice of FEAR. Stay where you are. Keep things safe. Avoid uncertainty.

It will always be there, it has nowhere to go. This we must accept. Yet as powerful as it may be, it is no match for your own greatest power. Your ability to choose.

On today's episode of The Sessions, Melissa Ambrosini, author of Mastering Your Mean Girl, reveals how exercising your greatest power can put your inner critic on mute so you can stay on your path to following your purpose and passions.

Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Everyone.

You. Me. Even the rich. Even the famous.

Even the ones who look like they have it all together, as if they have it all figured out.

The truth is, ALL of us are struggling through something. It’s these battles — the ones we face head-on — that cause us to become the strongest versions of ourselves.

If you ever happened upon Nicole Lapin reporting breaking news or hosting the hit TV show Hatched, you might assume you knew her story, what she was all about.

The youngest anchor ever hired by CNN. Author of a bestselling book. Winner of the Best Money Expert award over household names like Warren Buffet, Tony Robbins, and Dave Ramsey.

Young.

Pretty.

The daughter of a surgeon and a former Miss Israel.

Born with a silver spoon … or so we’d think.

But things aren’t always what they seem. Not even close.
