“A Thanksgiving memory.”

One Thanksgiving in particular, I remember my friend, Wilson. He helped so many people each day that he had forgotten that he was homeless himself. His focus was on making sure that homeless people had a meal and a roof over their heads even if only for one day. I learned a lot from Wilson, mainly that every meal counts when someone is hungry and in need.

During Thanksgiving, we join together as family and friends to give thanks to God for all of His Blessings and to give of ourselves. Each year, we never know who will be present at our table next year. We are all sisters and brothers-in-Christ and have such an abundance from God to be thankful for!

As Families and friends, we take turns leaning on each other throughout different stages of our lives. Our children are dependent upon us when they are young and then need our advice when they get older and have their own children. As parents, we need our parents for advice and then our parents need us as they grow older. Life becomes full circle.

Nothing ever stays the same so embrace and be thankful for every moment you have with your Loved ones. I thank President Lincoln for proclaiming Thanksgiving Day as a national holiday to be celebrated each November. Most of all, I thank God for all of the Love, health, happiness and increases in life from family, friends and the fruits of our labor.

You may find yourself in the presence of someone with a perceived slight from the past or present. Do yourself a favor this year by making a special effort to be kind and Loving to the ones who seem difficult to endure.

“The soul will absorb what is true.”

When we think about something, we usually end up living it. This concept became true for me at fifty years old. I had spent my entire life growing up without a dog. I have had allergies to cats, certain dogs and a few other animals since I was a young child. Although, I wanted a dog, it just did not seem like it was in the cards for me.

The first time that I found out that I was allergic to cats was when I went next door to see if one of my friends could come outside to play. I was young, tiny and wearing a little outfit with shorts and a matching tank top. There was an enormous cat sitting on the ledge to the right of my friend’s front door. I almost had to come within a hair of touching the tip of that cat’s nose to ring the doorbell. This cat did not belong to my neighbors but we saw it a lot in our area and nicknamed him, “Old Yellow Bag!” This cat weighed at least twenty-five pounds and was yellow with orange stripes or rings all around its body. That was one of the biggest and scariest cats that I had ever seen or been that close to before.

When I reached my little arm up to ring the doorbell, Old Yellow Bag jumped on top of me! I must have startled him and maybe he was asleep, I am not sure. I landed on the ground, flat on my back. Old Yellow Bag was making loud noises, scratching my skin and ripping my “sun suit” into shreds! I was bleeding from the deep scratches and had dirt all over my back from landing on the ground. I ran home crying! I think that I was only about five years old and my Mom was in the front yard running toward me with her arms out to rescue my heart! The whole “cat fight” with Old Yellow Bag, happened so fast that there was nothing my Mom could have done to prevent it. I had to go to the hospital and get checked out and cleaned up because that fat cat had torn my skin up. My Mother is a nurse and wanted to make sure that I did not get an infection from Old Yellow Bag.

Off and on, over the years, the idea of having a dog was as dreamy to me!

December 2015, God was speaking to my core about having a dog. His voice caused me to fantasize and explore the idea of it a little deeper. After praying about the idea of having a dog as a pet that December, I felt convicted by God to “go for it!”

When I saw the face of a little pup with curious eyes, I knew his name was going to be “Ridge.” I decided that Ridge needed a brother to grow and play with. Then, I saw a pup that had a big, round tan spot on each side of his cheeks. I knew right away that I was going to name him, “Blue.”

None of my friends or family members believed that I was going to have a dog, especially, two of them! Their first day home was Monday, December 21st, 2015.

A few years later, I gave Blue and Ridge, two little sisters, which I named Fox and Page. We are one big happy family! I refer to my pups as "The Tenderpups," and have written a children's books series with my Mother, Evelyn Minton, called Blue Ridge Tenderpups. We currently have three children's books in this series.

Ridge is sweet, a communicator and likes being out in the sunshine. Blue is a protector, deeply Loving, enjoys the shade, and secretly wishes that I was the only human on this earth! Fox is my athlete, and Page is a princess! They all Love their Nannie (my Mother).

God allowed my soul to absorb what was true! The truth that I could have Tenderpups! Hey Hallelujah! Sometimes, I tell myself that it took so long to have pups because my soul was waiting for the “season for Blue and Ridge to be born.”

Mother is one of God’s peacemakers! She brings the most unlikely people back together in harmony. That alone, is enough to make you want to know and Love her.

Her wisdom is deep and sometimes, I feel like a little sponge trying to soak up every little thing she shares, when I am with her.

The Lord blessed me with her culinary skills, personality, humor, medical knowledge, and decorating talents; for that, I am grateful!

When you walk into her home during Christmastime, you feel as if you are home, no matter where you are from. The decorations are profoundly, beautiful! She has great taste for decorating during any holiday.

She is one of the few people that I know that look more elegant in their pajamas as most people do in their best outfit! That amazes me! She is dazzling in every sense of the word! My Dad did quite well to capture her heart and hand in marriage!

The things that cause me to Love her more than anyone that I have ever known are because of the way she Loves the Lord, her sense of humor and the Love she has for family, friends and animals.

Prayer and faith are two constant resources that give us a direct link to God through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Praying is the most important thing to do whether things seem to be good or bad in your life.

We have ups and downs in life and really do not know exactly what may be around the upcoming corner.

Plant a seed to shine brightly every day for yourself and others! Surround yourself with positive people and overlook any negativity that attempts to get in your way.

When you encounter a stranger or friend, smile and share God’s Love with them through your eyes.

Whether it was positive or negative, thank God in your heart and mind for the learning experience from each person that ever crossed your path but most importantly, for making you better.

Viewing your life in day tight compartments will add up to weeks, months and years of positive results both personally and professionally. Live your life hour by hour thanking God for having you in today’s mind rather than planning too far ahead.

Enjoy the moment that you are living right now and share it with the people around you. Starting today, choose to live a better life than you have ever known before. Thank God for His Love and strength through all things you endure.

Love is a deep well of heart filled knowledge that we should all drink from.

Two of my friends-in-Christ, Chelsea and Grace Constable, are musicians and exultant examples of people that plant seeds which produce positivity. “Fast on gossip!”

My Dad always said to make sure to “fast on gossip!” That was great advice and I have carried it with me since childhood.

People in my life never really bring gossip to me because they know that I have zero interest in it. It is no fun to bring gossip to someone that will not participate.

Regardless of your opinion about or toward someone else, it is not our place to judge or gossip about others.

If someone truly Loves, respects, and cares about you, they will squash gossip, the very moment it comes to them.

Gossip is toxic, destroys lives and is something Dad taught me to fast on since my childhood. It destroys families and all types of relationships.

If someone brings you gossip then they automatically disrespect you. Tell them to learn how to raise their gossip bar.

Your life is only as good as the people you allow in it. It is always your choice to forbid gossip or not.

Our entire team at work has a zero-gossip policy in our workplace. If you gossip, you lose your job. Kindness and dedication is our work style.

Gossip is wrong. The bible plainly identifies gossiping as sinful. Here are some scriptures that come to my mind about gossip:

“Follow your heart.”

No matter what others say or do, follow your own heart. Listen to the voice of God inside your heart, and be obedient.

We all have visions for our missions whether they are domestic or international. Become determined to help others, especially people that seem disadvantaged. Often times, we are able to help provide opportunities for people in need. If that opportunity comes your direction, do not let it slip away without lending a hand to someone.

We cannot ever know exactly what the future has in store for us. The very person that you helped in the past may become the person that will lend you a hand one day in the future.

Praying is peaceful, it always has been! When we seek for comfort and contentment, the first thing we do is find ourselves in prayer.

“When someone thinks of you, their first thought should be about how much you Love the Lord!”

God is first in my life! It causes me to like my thoughts, and say exactly what I think. The personal journey; it is God and you! God’s forgiveness endures forever! Once Jesus is in your heart, He is there forever!

It should be easy for others to see how much you Love the Lord, our Savior! When you walk into a room, your warm smile, kind eyes and open heart should be the first few signs that confirm your Love of The Lord to others.

Heavenly Blessings from The Lord are received when we demonstrate Love and care for others by giving all that you feel possible without seeking recognition. Blessings from The Lord are given to be multiplied again through examples of His Love.

Do people that know you, instantly see how much you Love the Lord?

“My full-time position ... giving God the glory and the commitment of my heart to Him.”

Prayer is my lifestyle!

When I think I am only getting enough, God makes me feel that He is truly enriching my life with so much more. We have to believe, trust and accept.

Everything we say and do needs to be in honor of God and not for self-recognition.

When we remain obedient to our Heavenly Father and praise His name, He will provide the increases we need in order to continue serving Him.

There will be times when we say or do the wrong things but it is important to always keep a deep personal relationship with God and a faithful heart.

The first thing we should do when we wake up each morning is pray before we even get out of bed!

Prayer is the best way to have a consistent and deep personal relationship with our Lord and Savior.

We put so much daily focus on earthly things such as our professions when we should give God all of the Glory by making Him our full-time position.

My Aunt Chris was with me when I became saved. We got down on our knees together and I prayed my salvation prayer to the Lord, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior and asked Him to come into my heart forever.

Aunt Chris lives in Florence, Alabama and I do not get to see her as often as other members of my family. However, I think of her quite often because I Love and miss her immensely.

“Hobo Wilson ... a homeless friend, filled up with purpose.”

I met him on a springtime day and it changed my life forever.

The elderly homeless man just stood there in place, and really sized me up with his eyes as I approached him. I must admit, I had no idea what I was going to do or say but something inside of my heart told me to have this conversation.

I looked deeply into the elderly man's eyes, they were sky blue, watery, determined, and very serious. The elderly man just stared into my eyes, took a deep breath and said, "May I call you Doc?" I replied, "Yes, of course." I then asked him, "What is your name." He said, "Hobo." My reply was, "I just cannot call you Hobo, what is your name?" He replied,"My name is Bob Wilson." I asked, "If you are going to call me Doc, may I call you Wilson?" He shouted, "certainly Doc!"

He was a veteran, and now a homeless man that traveled by train from town to town over decades. Wilson described how he would get on a train, not knowing exactly where it was going, and get off when the feeling struck him to do so. He had been doing this for decades. Although he was a homeless train traveler, Wilson traveled from town to town, in order to help homeless people find a home.

Wilson did not travel with anyone or have any roots whatsoever. He was as free as an eagle in my eyes. For a moment, I fantasized about his lifestyle ... no utility bills, mortgage, dinner to prepare or patients to see. In some sense, he seemed to have a better life than I had.

Next, I took Wilson to the apartment complex that I co-owned with my business partner. Some of these apartments were fully furnished. I told him that he would be living there for free, as long as he wanted to, or for the rest of his life, and that it was his choice. Wilson suddenly burst out crying, and put his head in his hands. He cried so hard, and long, that I thought he must have a puddle of tears in his hands.

It was not long before Wilson gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior! He became saved and changed his lifestyle completely.

About six months later, Wilson passed away. It was heart breaking! We found a piece of paper with a man’s name and phone number. It was Wilson's brother. His brother told us that he had not seen Wilson in decades. Wilson's brother was kind to me, and cried over the loss of his brother.

A few months later, I mailed Wilson's brother two books that I had written. One book was Blue Ridge Moments Volume 1, subtitled, "Your Life Is Only As Good As Your Connection With Jesus," and the second book was a children's book about Hobo Wilson called "Blue Ridge Tenderpups Meet Hobo Wilson Christmas Eve." Wilson's brother was so happy and could hardly believe that someone had written books about his brother. Springtime always makes me think of the day I met Wilson and how he changed my life. My maternal Grandmother, Susie Ethel Johnson lived to be 96 years old. She was such an influence over my life growing up. I spent many days with her and my Grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Johnson, outside in their garden, gathering or planting vegetables depending on the season. When I think of my childhood, I think of helping them with their garden, climbing apples trees and the “ring” of my Grandmother’s banjo as she played Cripple Creek!

“Every day is the best day that I have ever had.”

Have you ever noticed that it is the topping (the whipped cream moments) in your life that matters?

No one really thinks about their degrees, certifications or any other awards when they are reflecting on the most important moments of their lives.

What we think about are the layers above those foundations. Our relationship with God, families, friends, hobbies, interests and fellowship in life. These are the “whipped cream moments” or “toppings” in your life!

Right now, I am thinking about my lifelong friend and brother-in-Christ, Mike Padgett. I met him when I was 15 years old and just beginning my first radio job as a disc jockey. He and I laughed and had so much fun! Anyone that knew Mike, Loved him!

As the years peeled away, Mike went into the sales side of broadcasting. He had acid reflux and told me that it was changing the sound of his voice.

Mike warned me from the beginning that once radio is in your blood, it will always be there! He was right! I still have the weekly radio show that he talked me into doing years ago. Mike was both my producer and sales representative for this show. The format of the radio show is commentary. My show is called “Blue Ridge Moments” because the best moments that I have are usually with my little Yorkie puppies, Blue and Ridge.

Mike passed away from a brief illness and it truly was heartbreaking for me. I still miss him visiting Mom and me at our office, the emails, phone calls, radio production and most of all, the fellowship and laughter together! Mike Padgett was definitely one of the “toppings” in my life! He will always be remembered!

Each day is another gift from God to embrace a new topping (experience)!

Some people are not ever taught to be God dependent and to put all of their eggs in His basket. He created us and gave us this life. Without God, nothing in your life will be solid or have a strong foundation. Your future becomes built on weakness and has no Godly guidance.

It all starts with our parents. My parents had us in church, bible study and bible camp. It built a strong, faith based outlook of hope for the future. I had been introduced to God by my parents and knew that I had a Heavenly Father, God. I was taught about Jesus, how He sacrificed his life and died on the cross to save us from our past, present and future sins. Knowing, trusting and believing in God and His Son, Jesus Christ, made a significant difference in my life. It provided me with spiritual direction and carved out a journey to begin planning for an eternal future.

I have met and known so many kids in school and young adults in college that had no idea what the true meaning of salvation or knowing and Loving God meant. I have heard many of them say that they believed in a higher power. The first time I heard that phrase it sounded weak and clueless. It sounded like a poor explanation for the fact that they really did not know what they believed in. It made me feel sad when I heard people say this growing up and it still makes me feel that way today.

There are actually parents that truly believe that they have brought their children up in a Loving home without God. They have taken them on vacations, to the movies, helped them study, allowed them to have slumber parties and spent time with their children. None of the aforementioned, means much at all without introducing and teaching your children about God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

God is the eternal Heavenly Father for all of us. Earthly parents can only live on this earth for a limited amount of time. Then, the cycle starts again when the next generation has their children. Our toolbox of eternity has to contain the most powerful, righteous, Heavenly tool of all; God! Parents, teach your children about God.

**“Karen ... my lifelong friend!”

Karen, my lifelong friend of thirty years**, was called to her Eternal Home to be with the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ and our Almighty Father God! She is in front of God, a soldier of the Light and covered in Glory! She was a skilled Registered Nurse and lived her life celebrating others! Karen made you feel like you were the most important person in the world every time you saw her!

Over the years, Karen and I helped each other through the best and hardest times of our lives. She was a rare and unique friend because she truly Loved me unconditionally, very similar to the way my parents have always Loved me. Our friendship was timeless and had the mutual element of an epic Love! Our families even Loved each other. Ann, Karen’s Mother, Loved me as if I were her own child. The feeling was mutual! Ann passed away briefly, prior to Karen’s passing. Karen’s family and I were in a season of grief.

Many years ago, Karen dedicated the song entitled, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Dianna Ross to our friendship. This was the final song that was played at her funeral service. It was beautiful because everyone was standing with their arms in the air celebrating her life as the song was being played. Karen lived her life Loving and serving the Lord!

“The Universe Hears Everything! Pray it forward, pray for your friends, family and strangers.”

I certainly believe in the power of prayer and the law of attraction. Have you ever noticed that the universe hears everything? Sometimes the universe is not able to distinguish between increasing or decreasing things. For example, I have heard many people say to the universe, “I am going to lose weight.” Next, they complain because they have gained weight instead of losing it. It is because the universe hears the word “weight” and does not distinguish between the gain and loss of it.

The best way to inform the universe of a personal goal such as weight loss would be to say “I am looking forward to the process of becoming thin.” This way, the universe hears the word “thin” rather than weight.

I invite you to consider noticing whether your thoughts and words are positive or negative. The universe needs to be addressed with specific and positive words and phrases in order to help accomplish your goals.

God is always listening to our hearts! He gives us what we need, when we need it. When we verbalize a desire, God's universe hears us. We all have some type of spiritual explorer inside us. Talk to Him and He will show you the way. Pray about every aspect of your life before you make a decision.

“You will know that I Love you, when you look into my eyes.”

I have asked my nephew, Tristan and niece, Riley, so many times: “How do you know that I Love you?” Next, I tell them, “You will know how much I Love you, when you look into my eyes.”

They look deeply into my eyes and immediately reveal disarming smiles when I would present them with the aforementioned question.

My sweet, handsome nephew and beautiful niece have the most attractive eyes, and it is effortless to get lost in them! They can always tell from the sparkle in my eyes just how much I Love , nd care about them!

Sometimes our eyes express much more than a sentence does at any given moment. We spend a lot of time talking with people each day. We should pause and look deeply into their eyes and allow them to feel how much we care about them.

I have shared Jesus with many people just by looking into their eyes and with practice, you can too!

When you stride in confidence of your faith, you become a “soldier of the light!”

Spiritual boldness develops over time from learning and practicing on becoming “God dependent!”

There are so many daily events and obstacles that try to cloud your way. My advice, do not let them accomplish that!

When I wake up in the morning, the first thing that I do is pray and thank God for “having me in today’s mind” before I even put my feet on the floor. Next, I get on my knees when I get up in the morning, and thank Him some more, and ask Him for direction and guidance upon my day.

No matter what our plans for the day may be, we need to remember to open our hearts and share with God. We need to tell Him that if it is in His will then it is in our will too. We want the Lord to know that He and His will, matters the most above everything else in our lives.

“Have you ever noticed, most people that are saved have the brightest, beautiful eyes? Animals have beautiful, bright eyes too! Your eyes tell a story!"

Whenever I am engaged in a conversation with someone, their eyes say the most to me. Someone’s eyes can tell a story. Most of us have heard the adage that the eyes are the windows to our soul. Souls desire to communicate through our eyes.

I have noticed many times that when I am talking with someone that Loves God, they have the most beautiful, piercing eyes that are bright in color. The Love of God shines through us when we have found salvation. This infinite Love shines brightly through our eyes like stars in the night sky.

You can read someone’s eyes like pages in a book. The eyes long to tell their story even when the mind and body do not. God’s Love causes the Holy Spirit to shine through us into others. People will notice and see your Love for God even before you begin to tell them.

Animals communicate through their eyes just like humans. Their eyes reveal great Love, adoration and loyalty. My pups, Blue and Ridgecommunicate with their eyes constantly. Their eyes tell me when they are hungry, sleepy, and playful or just want some hugs and kisses. Humans and animals express themselves strongly through their eyes.

My father used to tell me that a great gardener does not pull every weed that pops up in their life. In order to cultivate and grow personally and professionally, it is almost impossible to pull every weed in your world.

I learned and practiced how to scale back some, macro manage and delegate rather than micro managing everything in my life.

This concept of work style has allowed my diverse companies to continue to grow with better quality. I am viewing them altogether, and on a grander scale. It has also helped me enjoy my personal life more.

“Information is ammunition.”

Information is ammunition. Whenever you tell certain people your most personal details in life, they tend to use that information against you and to their advantage whenever things are not going well in the friendship/relationship.

People are unable to harm you verbally, emotionally or financially if they do not have the information to do so in the first place. Maintaining an element of mystery is good for any relationship because it tends to make you and your actions less predictable to other people. Protecting private information about yourself also prevents others from distorting their true image of you.

Once I had a friend named Sarah that was very intelligent but proceeded to tell everyone in our circle of friends that she felt she had very little sense of direction. From that point on, our inner circle of friends labeled her as "the one that you should not ever ask for directions."

Early in these friendships, Sarah divulged information that she felt she was terrible with navigation. Sarah revealed her “inner limp” to her closest friends.

None of us in this circle of friends would have ever known or even cared that Sarah did not have a good sense of direction. Sarah exposed her privacy and ultimately, was labeled by her friends.

“Reflection...Raindrops!"

A few years ago, I was driving in the pouring rain on my way to work from the lake talking to my Mother on speaker phone in the car. The raindrops were so large that they rippled on my windshield.

Mom expressed to me how beautiful she thought the rain was and how she liked to just watch it fall.

All those years, I had no idea until that day how beautiful my Mom thought rain was until that moment.

Make sure each day that you set and keep priorities in your life that will help you reach the goals you desire to achieve. Often times, we get distracted by work and drama from people in the world. It is important to remember to be true to yourself.

Do things each day that feed your soul. Remember that life is short, unpredictable and precious. Live each day, hour to hour in day tight compartments with great passion in everything you do. Life changes very quickly and we need to tell each and every person that we come into contact with just how very much we Love and appreciate them.

All of my life, I have had a strong exercise ethic. I have a full gym at home because working out there is best for me. I enjoy weight lifting, playing golf, tennis, swimming, running and riding my bicycle. Exercise makes me feel wonderful!

People would make fun of Timmy because he claimed that the music teacher made him sick. Timmy would have nausea, headaches, and cry and sometimes turn red.

My grandfather used peppermint candy as medicine when I was a child. Sometimes he gave me one when I had a tummy ache and it seemed to make me feel better. Timmy suffered once a week in music class when he didn't get to go home from the clinic. He counted on me to bring him peppermint candy to music class.

Looking back, I know now exactly what was wrong with Timmy. Our music teacher wore strong cologne, smoked heavily and played a piano. His breath and clothes smelled terrible and Timmy was allergic to it. We each had to stand by the piano while our music teacher played it. My memories are filled with Timmy standing beside of that piano, feeling sick and eating that peppermint candy I gave him. His face and ears would turn red too! I always wondered exactly what was going through Timmy’s mind as he was enduring all of this pain and anguish at school.

When you are allergic to something, you will produce excess stomach acid in response to your mast cells producing histamine. I tell my patients in advance not to wear strong cologne out of respect for other patients, staff and myself.

When I think of Timmy, I wonder what happened to him and where he is now. I also hope and pray that he did not grow up having self-worth issues about the fact that he was sick a lot in music class.

Everything I use is unscented. I taught myself how to make soap, deodorant and shampoo, just for fun. People tell me I smell great, and I think it is because there are no or few chemicals involved.

We all have a natural wonderful scent when we are clean.

Most of all, I desire to keep a clean heart.

Everywhere you go, show others some Love. A wink, smile, eye contact, hug, kiss or any kind gesture will put an extra spring in someone’s step. You never know what is on someone’s mind when you encounter them. A rude comment or frown could be the last straw for someone that is feeling depressed. Sometimes our body language represents statements that are as loud as words.

I have a lifelong friend named Chuck Ryburn. He is one of the funniest people that I have ever known. Chuck was my paper route manager when I was a child. I was eight years old when I started delivering newspapers. I kept my paper route until I was seventeen years old. Chuck and I are still friends. My entire family Loves Chuck and embraces his friendship. When my Dad was alive, he and Chuck would sit for hours talking and laughing together. Chuck tells a lot of jokes but he makes me laugh the loudest when he talks like an elderly English woman.

It is almost effortless to be kind. It takes a lot of energy and effort to be rude. We are all responsible for our words and actions so make them positive!

“Animals, they seem to be so much wiser than people.”

Animals are loyal, they Love unconditionally but most importantly, understand the true meaning, do not take any of it for granted and remain consistent. Animals seem to know what is going on more than we know, especially with illness. I feel they live on a much higher and deeper spiritual level.

When an animal's human companion passes away, it makes me very sad for the pet because they feel the deepest sense of loss. Animals hurt more because they invest more in the relationship than anyone else and without it being requested or demanded. They give their whole heart to us.

My Yorkie pups, Blue and Ridge, have such different personalities. Blue is the protector and Ridge wants to be protected. Blue checks on me if I am in another room. He wants to know how I am doing and what is going on. Blue waits for me and is so loyal. Blue always wants to keep Ridge safe too.

Ridge greets me with a cute howl if I have been away from him more than five or ten minutes. Ridge continues to howl with a toy in his mouth until I express how proud that I am of him. Ridge also lets me know when Blue has something he wants or is doing something that does not seem right. They both want to be held constantly, are so Loving and follow me around everywhere I go. I am Blessed! Animals are beautiful, precious treasures sent from God.

“The human heart is the safest place.”

The human heart is a safe place. Once Jesus is tucked inside your heart, He cannot ever be taken away from you.

Jesus Christ Lives in our hearts! He is our Savior, God’s only son that died on the cross to save us from our sins.

When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, no one and nothing can ever take that away from you. Your life will be lived differently because you are saved.

Sometimes people in your life may want or try to view you as you were before you were saved and mentally hold you back. For example, I know a man that was addicted to drugs and alcohol before he became saved. Everyone wanted to pigeon hole him as the eternal alcoholic and drug addict instead of accepting him as being reborn.

These preconceived ideas of him were negative and could have easily discouraged him. He had joined a church and walked the narrow path with Jesus.

He focused on his new life and Loved everyone, including the people in his life that wanted to hold him back out of habit. He soon realized that living life as a Christian comes with Love, forgiveness, happiness and great responsibility.

Many people had prayed for him before he became saved. Their prayers had been answered and his life was changed forever! This man became one of the most knowledgeable ordained Ministers that I have ever known! To God be the glory!

Is there someone in your life that you should forgive, and be viewing differently?

“Touch everyone in your life with the hand of respect.”

Growing up, you probably have heard people saying that you should respect your elders. Although this statement is true, everyone should be treated with respect, no matter what their age. Babies and animals should receive as much respect as your elders. Your peers should receive your respect as well.

Usually, true respect is mutually earned. Often times, people that are stern are respected out of fear. This is not true respect. Fear should not be associated with respect.

I once knew a very successful business man. He was wealthy and had many employees over the years. The employees in his office building were all very scared of him. He believed that they were afraid of him because they respected him.

He had trained his employees to be afraid of him because he believed they would be more productive and get lots of work done. This man was actually a very kind person underneath all of this stern behavior.

Although his employees worked hard, they did not truly respect him. They endured this stern environment because they needed to keep their jobs.

If you or someone you know is in a similar situation or environment, I invite you to ask yourself a few questions. Is there someone in your life that you “fake- respect” only out of fear? Are there people in your life that you feel should respect you but do not?

When you think about the meaning of “respect,” consider your parents, children, animals and friends first.

“We all have a limp.”

We all have a limp (an emotional or physical limitation) which truly humbles us. Others may view these limps as blanketing our talents. Sometimes, it may be very challenging to accomplish our goals in life or even simple daily tasks.

It is more important to enjoy God’s journey in life for us rather than just reaching our own personal desired destination point. Developing a deep capacity of Love, faith and hope through prayer will provide the passion needed to remain in an intimate personal relationship with God.

I was driving through town one day and there was an elderly lady riding a medical scooter to the mall. She was lean, very dressed up and was wearing a nice coat, gloves and scarf. It was very cold and windy outside. She had a big smile on her face as she rode across the busy highway and onto the parking lot. She even had a headlight on the front of this medical scooter. You could tell this was her regular route to the mall.

I noticed her leg had been amputated at the thigh level. It was truly humbling to see this lady so happy and independent despite her "limp." Her generation knew how to be strong. She made such an impression and is still on my mind. We all have some type of "limp" and should learn to be happy no matter what life hands us.

“Keep the wow factor in every little thing you do.”

No one remembers people that are average. Set your bar high in everything you dream about or actually participate in. When your life is over, people should be saying "he or she was great to me!" Treat people with the "wow factor" and they will Love you more for it. Let people know how you feel about them and what makes them special to you and others. The best life you could ever live is built from helping and uplifting others.

I had a patient, which I will call Ashley, who was severely agoraphobic. The first day that I met her, she had a toboggan pulled down so far over her head that you could barely see her eyes. She stared at the ground with her hands in her pocket. We had a medication counseling session and I felt good about the connection that Ashley and I had made professionally. I explained the medication plan to Ashley and we said a prayer together before she left my office.

A few days later, a prominent psychiatrist in town called me at work. She said that I had just seen one of her patients professionally, Ashley, and wanted to discuss it with me. I must admit, I had no idea what was coming next. The psychiatrist told me that she wanted me to see Ashley every week because we really seemed to bond. I told the psychiatrist that I would come up with some type of very inexpensive office fee so that Ashley could afford a weekly visit if she really believed this was necessary.

As time went on, I continued to see Ashley every week. In the beginning, she was not only unable to leave her home because of agoraphobia but she also would only eat her meals in her bedroom. She was so severely depressed after the loss of her mother and niece within the same year that she just stayed hidden away in her room. Ashley worked hard with me for a solid year. The personal progress that Ashley made was stunning! In the end, Ashley ended up looking like a model! She had gained just the right amount of weight because she was so frail when I met her. She also became a cosmetologist and began working in a retail salon. This amazed me!

Ashley’s husband, John, came with her to the last weekly office visit. John was smiling and his exact words were “you saved our marriage!” I smiled and explained to John that God, Ashley and he saved their marriage. I was merely a willing vessel sent to helpcarry out God’s plan for their situation. This was truly a very happy beginning (notice I did not say ending) for all of us! My whole career would have been worth working for if this had been the only patient that I had ever helped.

“Humility is jet fuel for the soul.”

Most people think of romance when they hear the term “soulmate.” I truly believe that we encounter many soulmates throughout our lifetime.

When I was seventeen years old, I met one of my soulmates. He was eighty years old and my best friend’s grandfather! We all referred to him as “Dad Dad.”

This man made such an impression upon my mind, heart and soul. Although, his body was eighty years old when we met, his soul was youthful and his mind was brilliant. He was such a kind, gentle soul that was filled with infinite humility.

He stood with his hands in his pockets, was of slender build, average height, and had sky blue eyes that sparkled and exultant wisdom. Dad Dad was so kind, friendly and down to earth that you would not ever have guessed that he was a psychiatrist that had practiced for decades, held a law degree and was a retired United States Lt. Colonel. He was absolutely the most humble man that I had ever met or Loved. I Loved Dad Dad as if he were my own grandfather.

Writing about Dad Dad makes me smile and miss him ever so much. He made me feel like the most special person every time I saw him. If I mowed his yard or cooked him a meal, he would always say “that it was the best ever!”

His bar of humility was set higher than anything I had ever experienced. As a matter of fact, I can honestly say that I did not even know what the term “humility” really meant until I met Dad Dad.

Dad Dad wrote one of my professional letters of recommendation for Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia. I continue to be overwhelmed each and every time that I read his letter. That letter is framed and hangs in my office, along with a photo of Dad Dad and his wife, Nana, when they were a younger couple. The stories that Dad Dad told me were part of the foundation for wanting to obtain my Pharm.D. degree.

“A relaxation technique ... something I have done for years.”

Each day, sometimes more than once a day, close your eyes and imagine holding a bunch of colored balloons on strings.

Next, put a word on each balloon such as happy, sad, a person's name, a concern or prayer or anything you would want the balloon to express.

Then, when you are ready, let go of the strings so all of the balloons will float away slowly, at the same time and with different velocities.

It is very relaxing to watch all of the different colored balloons in your mind, float away into the sky until they are out of sight.

Anything that you have written on these balloons has also faded out of sight.

“Give someone Love by learning more about their illness.”

Give someone Love by learning more about their illness. Most people give what they want to receive. Remember the aunt that always pinches your cheeks, and gives you so many hugs and kisses? Some aunts exhibit that type of behavior because that is exactly what they want; more hugs and kisses in their life. Most of my patients all say the same thing, "I wish that my family understood my illness and how sick I feel."

I had a very special, elderly friend that was like family to me. She had fibromyalgia (FMS) disease with severe flare ups. When she experienced these flare ups, they would make her bedridden with symptoms of fatigue, chronic widespread pain with tenderness, and a poor memory. She would cry a lot because she felt all alone and like no one in her family understood her illness. She was unable to attend many family events because the pain and fatigue were crippling to her.

One day she brought her husband with her to visit me. When she stepped out of the room momentarily, I asked her husband if he understood his wife's disease. He replied, "No, not really. I just know that she hurts a lot." He said their wedding anniversary was coming up and he didn't know what to buy her as a gift or how to celebrate with her since she was in so much pain. I suggested for him to go to the bookstore and buy her a few books on fibromyalgia. He really looked at me with great surprise and said, "I have never thought of doing that before." I explained to him that the best way to show someone you Love them is to let them know you are investing in, and learning about their illness and wellness.

In addition to buying his wife fibromyalgia books, her husband, actually read those books together with her! It brought them much closer as a couple, and rekindled some sparks between them. Later on, they both told me that their marriage was stronger because of all of the knowledge, and sharing that they were experiencing together.

“The way I Love you ... belongs to me!”

Have you ever thought about the fact that some things can be taken away from you but Love is not one of them?

People break-up from relationships, get divorced, move or pass away. These situations do not have the power or authority to destroy the Love you carry inside of your heart.

The Love you carry inside of your heart belongs to the Lord and you! People may do or say things that would seem to destroy Love but it cannot because ultimately, the “choice to Love” belongs to you.

No one can live your life for you, think your thoughts or feel your feelings. Your heart and mind have to make the choice to Love. Praying and asking God to guide your heart in the right direction is the wisest decision you will ever make.

“Chad, my brother-in- Christ, nephew and son.”

God puts people in our lives that help make us better! My nephew-son, Chad Philip Barrett, is one of those people for me!

I knew Chad was a special gift from God the moment he was born! The mere glimpse of the crown of his head as he was being born made tears flow down my cheeks.

Chad was such a pleasure to help raise, and watch grow up to become a man. He refers to me as “Bil Bil," and it warms my heart, still to this day, every time he says that to me.

Us Is Ok,” is a little phrase of three words that means so much to Chad and me.

Whenever there is doubt about anything in this world, Chad and I tell each other “Us Is Ok!” What we are really telling each other is that God is with us, around us, inside us at all times, and there is nothing to be afraid of.

I used to take Chad almost everywhere I went when he was growing up. We truly enjoyed spending time together! Chad liked being with me for business deals too.

One Saturday morning, I took Chad with me to buy a new truck. We decided to eat breakfast at the Waffle House on the way to the dealership. In the middle of our meal, I asked the waitress if they accepted debit cards. She smiled and said, “No, we only accept cash.” I looked at her and said, “Ok, great.” After I made that reply to the waitress, my heart sunk! I looked in my billfold, and realized that I only had debit cards with me and zero cash on hand. Immediately, I frantically started calling one of my friends to come and bring us some cash. I explained the situation to Chad and he understood although he was only about ten years old.

My friend was playing tennis and her phone was in the car. While I was trying to reach her, I was swirling around what was left of my waffle and syrup in the plate as if I was still eating my meal. Customers that were waiting for tables were starting to look very irritated that Chad and I were taking so long to finish eating because they wanted our table.

Finally, my friend called me back with worry because I had called her phone so many times. I explained our situation to her and she brought Chad and me some cash for our meals. When she pulled up outside of Waffle House, I sent Chad outside to her car to get the money she had brought. When Chad came back inside, he discreetly gave me the money to pay for our meals and said “Us is Ok!” I knew exactly what he meant!

Next, we went to the dealership to look at vehicles. Chad helped pick out the vehicle that he wanted me to purchase. It was a black, Chevy truck with gray leather interior and was very nice. We took the truck for a test drive, then came back to the dealership to sign the sales contract.

As we were driving home in our new truck, Chad looked at me and said, “Bil Bil, I don’t understand how we just bought a new truck without any money but had to pay the Waffle House cash before we could leave.” That was probably the funniest statement and situation that I had ever encountered in my life!

Every day we walk in our lifetime of ministry.

I was born a baby girl but chose to grow up to be a woman actively honoring God!

God gave us the gift of Love and breath of life! Love makes you stronger than tough times ever will. Love is present even when it may not be easily recognized.

Make sure your weakest link is very strong.

Most people know that the weakest link has the ability to bring you down. This may apply to families, friends, businesses, schools, churches and many other entities. No matter what you are doing in your life, make sure that your weakest link is strong.

When I was in college, a group of my peers wanted to form a study group. I was reluctant about joining a group because I always seemed to study better on my own. When I studied on my own, there were less distractions and no one else to depend on.

Finally, I agreed to join the study group and for the first few weeks, it worked well for everyone concerned. The third week into the study group, there were two people, Adam and Charlotte, making things complicated. Adam and Charlotte were dating each other which made the situation even worse. There were days that they were very late to our meetings. It disrupted our thoughts and slowed us down. Other days, Adam and Charlotte would disagree about a topic and start arguing. They would yell and make rude comments back and forth to each other during our whole study session.

I decided that I had given this study group enough time and it was not working out for me. I did not want to spend the energy trying to keep Adam and Charlotte from being late or frequently arguing with each other.

I prayed about how I felt and was led to leave the group. Later on, I found out that Adam and Charlotte were kicked out of the group. This did not surprise me. As a couple, they seemed to have a hard time functioning together. As individuals, they seemed to be happier and more productive.

In my mind, there were three weak links regarding this study group. First, the study group as a whole was a weak link for me. Secondly, Adam and Charlotte were weak links for the study group. Thirdly, Adam and Charlotte seemed to be weak links to each other. They eventually broke up and went their separate ways.

Whenever a weak link is discovered in your personal or business life, you have to ask yourself a few questions and ultimately, make a decision. Do you leave the chain that contains the weak link? Do you remove the weak link that is in your chain? No matter which solution you choose, make sure that you have prayed about it for guidance. Your heart will know which resolution it should absorb.

When someone thinks of you, their first thought should be about how much you Love The Lord!God is first in my life! It causes me to like my thoughts and say exactly what I think. The personal journey; it is God and you! God’s forgiveness endures forever! Once Jesus is in your heart, He is there forever! It should be easy for others to see how much you Love the Lord, our Savior!When you walk into a room, your warm smile, kind eyes and open heart should be the first few signs that confirm your Love of The Lord to others. We have been great family- friends for many years and they are a pulchritudinous example of a couple “in God’s Love!”

Heavenly Blessings from The Lord are received when we demonstrate Love and care for others by giving all that you feel possible without seeking recognition. Blessings from The Lord are given to be multiplied again through examples of His Love.

“Some things don’t matter, and other things matter a lot; praying about the difference is gold.”

Have you ever noticed that as we mature in life, some things seem smaller than they used to be and just do not matter anymore? For example, I really do not care if someone takes the parking space that I thought might have become mine. I would rather walk the extra distance.

When we experience soul pain in our lives for various reasons, we tend to focus on things that really matter such as God, family, pets and friends.

“Thank God right now before His next miracle happens.”

God answers our prayers according to His plan and timeline. Our prayers are answered even when we do not get our anticipated outcome.

God always has a time for some of our doors to be closed and new windows opened. God’s blessings are constantly bestowed upon us and we often take them for granted.

Miracles are usually seen when we are in a crisis. Miracles are wonderful to pray for but daily blessings seem to keep our lives more balanced. We should always thank God every day for all of His miracles and blessings.

In May 2008, my Mother was suddenly diagnosed with endometrial cancer. This was frightening to everyone in my family especially since our father passed away September 1997 from cancer. It seemed as if my worst nightmare was happening.

This diagnosis stunned us all because Mom has always been healthy, happy, a non-smoker, non-drinker and a nurse for many years. She lived a healthy lifestyle by example.

The first week of June 2008, Mom had major surgery in Asheville, NC in hopes to prevent having to undergo radiation or chemo treatments. The surgery came with a high risk due to the severity of her cancer. She was in surgery for many hours and the waiting was difficult for everyone. Finally, after many hours in surgery, Mom pulled through successfully.

She continues to have regular follow-up appointments since winning the battle with cancer. This was the best example of a miracle that ever happened for our family.

The fact that Mom has always lived a healthy life up until the cancer diagnosis was proof of her constant blessings from God. Her normal health was restored after winning the battle of cancer; that was the miracle! I have confirmation that miracles and blessings are provided by God and that they are very different.

Do People Know You?The story that I am including below, was written by my Editor, and Author of Superwoman Smarts, Aundrea Wilcox. It is the actual "FOREWORD" in my Blue Ridge Moments book series. Aundrea Wilcox describes what is was like "getting to know me as a person."
FOREWORD

Typically, new authors struggle with coming up with enough content for their first book let alone two. Blue Ridge Moments started out as one book that was over 550 pages in length. It was huge. After assessing the contents, I knew the author would not be open to eliminating some of the stories and photos in order to make the project fit a particular size parameter. So, I was thrilled to break the bad news to her—that she had enough original content for two volumes, Volume 1: Your Life Is Only As Good As Your Connection With Jesus, and Volume 2: Celebrating Footsteps of a God Dependent Life. More good news is that the author isalready working on her third book, a children’s book.

Before I began working on this project with Billie J. Minton, I knew of her but I didn’t know her. I knew that she had done many great things in the community. I knew she was an astute entrepreneur. I knew she was smart. But, I didn’t know her spiritually or personally. What I learned during this process of helping her edit this book, is that she is funny, deeply caring and lives the most purposeful life that I have ever witnessed with my own eyes. Her purpose is simple—to help and provide a livelihood for others.

As I was editing her book, I laughed out loud at some of her entries, and I cried as I read others. Blue Ridge Moments took me on a whirlwind ride emotionally and spiritually.

At first, I was concerned that I didn’t know the people that Billie talks about in her books. I wondered if I could really get into it. I quickly discovered that I didn’t have to know the people before I read their stories. The stories are so vividly told that I felt like I was right there for every one of them. I could see

everything that was happening right before my eyes. I could smell the food, and I could taste the saddest cake ever! At times, I smiled so hard that my face hurt, as I read and got to know these precious characters. As for the characters I thought I knew already, I learned that every coin has two sides.

I love the way Billie unselfishly shares her personal relationship with God with all of us—even me. I consider myself a Christian, but I don’t attend church on a regular basis. I guess I don’t agree with the way the gospel is shared with new believers and non- believers. I always feel like I’m supposed to know things that I don’t. Biblical illiteracy is an opportunity for Christians to teach the stories of the bible using their own life experiences as an appetizer, which is what Billie does so well with this book series. I found myself looking forward to the related Bible verse after each story. It was nice to recognize the verses for a change. The truth is I had been learning all the time, but this time was different. I was finally connecting. Blue Ridge Moments changed my daily outlook immensely. As I read the stories, I reflected on my own life. For example, the questions that Billie asks readers became breakfast conversations with my husband.

I hope you enjoy Blue Ridge Moments as much as I did, and I hope your connection with Jesus is stronger and more beautiful than ever after reading this book. The meaning of living life in day-tight compartments has never made more sense to me.

I remember the day that this thought occurred to me; unwinding out of an old curve, lights up a new runway.

I was driving on a curvy road next to the airport runway. It was nighttime and the sight of the runway was beautiful from the road I was driving on.

Airplanes were arriving from the evening sky and landing on a runway with bright lights shining.

Within each curve that my car hugged and unraveled from, it felt like God was letting me know that new opportunities were already born and just waiting for me to greet.

“Our soul is an eternal organ.”

Our soul is an eternal organ that is accessed through faith in God, and Love in our hearts. The soul soars us to our Heavenly home.

The soul is invisible and has an infinite life. It is God's gift to every living creature. The soul is the life of every existence and the path to Heaven. We all have Loved ones that will be missed so hold them close in your prayers and thoughts.

My Aunt Rachel passed away right before Christmas in 2016. Our family, especially my Mom, had such an adjustment period.

Rachel was in our daily lives and a legend in our family. I took a photo of Rachel at my office less than two weeks before she passed away. She was so beautiful inside and out at 96 years old.

She used to come in the office and run the front desk with my Mom for a few hours and eat her breakfast. She always got up and got dressed up!

Although, she was very kind, Rachel was not ever generous with compliments because she did not sugar coat anything with anyone. Some of her compliments even sounded like mild, unintentional insults. For example, I heard her tell someone in the lobby of my office, “You should dress like that every day!” What she really meant was that she thought this young lady was dressed nice that day but usually, not on other days. That was about the best version of a compliment she normally gave to someone. However, if you ever did get a compliment from Rachel, she meant it and you were special to receive it! The best compliment that Rachel ever gave to me was when she said, “You sure do take good care of your Mother.”

Rachel was a family oriented woman! She lived her life Loving the Lord and taking care of her family. She also had a memory better than anyone I have ever known. Her memory taught us a lot about our family history. I Loved Aunt Rachel so much and can still hear her dear, sweet voice, thanking me for the small things I did for her. She and my Mother, Evelyn, were very close as sisters.

Mom and Rachel came from a large Johnson family. Their parent's names were Benjamin Franklin Johnson and Susie Ethel Johnson. Their children are named in order: John Henry, Rachel, Lynn, Charlie, Clint, Evelyn (my Mother), Ben, and Buck.

God has Aunt Rachel, Uncle John Henry, Aunt Lynn, Uncle Charlie, Uncle Clint, and Uncle Buck in His arms, eternally! Thank you, God!

“You can only kick field goals in life if you determine where the goal posts are at.”

There are several things we must ask ourselves, and do before we can make our lives seem better or more fulfilled.

First, we must ask ourselves, "What do I want?" The second question to ask yourself is, "What do I need to do in order to achieve my goals?" Finally, the most important question should be, “Am I serving the Lord?”

Many years ago, I felt over educated, over worked and disrespected in my career at a major corporation. I just did not feel that I was using enough of my education and felt unhappy when I left work to go home each day.

I began to think about those aforementioned questions, and my answers to them. I got out a clipboard with paper, and a pen, and began listing my thoughts.

I wanted to open my own company because I needed self-satisfaction. I didn't want to be nailed to a desk. I didn't want anyone to tell me what to do or when to do it. I wanted to break free of corporate control. In corporations, it is all about the dollar. What I wanted to do is truly help others without being measured by production.

I still have those notes today! My list started out very basic stating that I needed a company name, mission statement, signage, office space, telephone, power, water and a website, just to get started! The first thing that I did was start selling things! I lived alone and even sold my home. I wanted to put a lot of resources behind this dream so I could turn it into a reality. Once I put my plan into action, I was in business rather quickly.

People wanted to know exactly what my practice was about. I would explain that I provide life-altering advice to patients who feel they have nowhere else to turn. I am a Pharm.D., a private medication counseling consultant with a community practice. I review patients’ medications, past medical history, disease states, symptomology, diet, and lifestyle during one-one-one consultations, uncovering problems that may otherwise go unnoticed and making vital recommendations to help patients feel and look better. This significantly improves the patient’s quality of life.

My goal is to get patients on the least amount of medication for the maximum benefit while still targeting their disease states, and symptomology.

I co-wrote a Medication Counseling Bill with TN. State Representative Nathan Vaughn, SB 1899 Dixon/ HB 1958 Vaughn Reimbursement for Medication Therapy Management Services, which PASSED May 2003. Senate status; SB1899 was passed in the full Senate, May 29, 2003 by a vote of 31-0. House status; HB1958 was passed by the full House on May 22, 2003 by a vote of 86-6-2. I have this bill framed, and it adorns the wall in the lobby of my office building.

This bill permits insurers to reimburse for up to two medication counseling sessions with a credentialed Pharm.D. for insured patients who use six or more medications.

I believe there is no one health care professional that has all of the answers. Every member on a patient’s health care team has a special contribution to make for the good of the patient. I enjoy helping solve medical mysteries for my patients, and other health care professionals!

“God performs miracles during a crisis, and blessings every day.”

This true story has a happy ending.

A new patient, which I will call Julie, was brought to me by her brother. She is middle aged, both of her parents are deceased, heavily over medicated with prescription drugs and was placed in a mental hospital. She had an obscene amount of unnecessary drug interactions and adverse effects because of this situation.

Julie’s brother fought for two years to get her out of this mental hospital in New York City. She had been placed and left into the broken health care system.

I was privileged enough to currently be placed on her health care team. She does not need one single prescription that she had been left on for years.

Within a reasonable amount of time, a stepwise approach and most of all, by the Grace of God, this young lady is going to get her life back.

God has bestowed his blessing upon both Julie and me. God used me as a vessel to help restore her health. Hey Hallelujah!

Sacred, Godly moments, may be spent connecting with another soul. Every morning my puppies go outside then come right back and lie down with me and take a peaceful nap. This is our time of spiritual awareness of all of God's creations around us.

I hold my pups, Blue and Ridgeand pray without worry, reflecting on past and present memories of God's Blessings and Love. Every day feels like the first day that I embraced my pups! Their Love and playfulness makes life sweeter!

Recently, a childhood friend of mine, Toni, came to our hometown to visit. We grew up together, lived next door to each other, were in the same sorority in high school and were like sisters. We had not seen each other in many years. The moment we reunited, felt as good as the days did when we were growing up together. Obviously, the newness of our friendship and Love had not ever worn off. Toni’s beautiful smile and big hugs made me feel brand new! No matter how much time or distance is between us, we will always remain close in our hearts.

“It requires more than being related by blood to maintain a close, bonded relationship with someone.”

Many people take each other for granted just because they are blood related. They make themselves believe that no matter how much time has passed by, the closeness they used to have with a relative is still there. In some instances, this may be true.

Usually, in order for a relationship to remain strong, you have to put some Love, time and muscle into it.

Sometimes we find ourselves feeling more of a family connection to someone that is not blood related to us. If that is the case, do not let it bother you. Hearts do not plan who they feel soulfully bonded to.

A strong sense of family bonding develops from spending time together, sharing meals and most of all, through prayer.

This topic makes me think of my lifelong friend, and brother-in-Christ, Bert Hale. We have been friends since childhood and lived across the street from each other for many years.

Bert and I have shared many laughs and tears throughout the years. We built the foundation for a solid friendship many years ago that will last a lifetime. We are like family to one another, and soul bonded friends forever!

“Mary Helen was one of the fossil prints of my childhood.”

I grew up in the 1970’s and had three older sisters: Linda, Brenda, Phyllis and one younger, Elizabeth, which we nicknamed “Libby.” My oldest sister, Linda, had a best friend named Mary Helen Phillips.

Linda and Mary Helen were almost inseparable growing up. Mary Helen lived on the same neighborhood street as us growing up. She and my sister, Linda, were about fifteen years older so they helped Mom take care of Libby and me. According to my Mom, Mary Helen practically fell in Love with me when I was born.

Mary Helen carried me on her hip everywhere she went while my Mom was working at Holston Valley Hospital as a nurse. Mary Helen and Linda would push me on my tricycle, feed and play with me every day when they came home from school.

As an adult, Mary Helen wrote a letter to me, after my Father passed away. I have that letter framed, and hanging on the wall in my office beside of her photo.

A few years later, Mary Helen passed away. She was one of the "fossil prints of my childhood."

“Let it go, focus on the daily blessings that God gives us.”One of my best friends from high school, Toni, used to always say, “do not focus on the past, let it go.” Presently, Toni lives on an island and enjoys a less stressful environment.

Put your energy into the future so you may reach your goals. God wants us to forgive others for anything and everything. This certainly may seem difficult at certain times in our lives but holding onto bitterness and anger holds us back from accepting daily Blessings from God.

I had a patient express that he was having a difficult time emotionally, getting over a breakup. He could not seem to “let it go!” After talking with him, it was clear he was only focusing on the positive memories and there were just as many bad. I told him to think about the fact that her actions revealed how very little she cared about him as a person during that relationship. Everything in that relationship was so much about her that she really did not even take the opportunity to know him during all that time they spent together. Additionally, he expressed to me that he does not hardly remember anything about himself while he was in that relationship. He does not remember how he felt, what he ate, what he did or how he looked physically. I encouraged him to “let it go” by continuing to pray about his resolve regarding this situation and wish her well into the future.

The main reason that my patient was having a hard time “letting it go” emotionally was because he was in mourning over the loss of what he thought his life was going to be like “with her” rather than actually missing her after the relationship ended.

Forgiveness heals and endures forever. God’s Blessings are abundant in our lives and we have to open up our hearts to receive them. Faith is sagacious, abysmal and the most emphatic personal instrument that may commensurate and command restoration. Trust and utilize the power of your Faith in the Lord every single day.

My friend, Betty Cartwright, seemed to have passed away from a broken heart.

Betty was like a second mother to me. I had known her as long as I had known her daughter, Wendy Welch. We all Loved each other very much. We Loved each other as family!

Betty and I talked on the phone almost every day for many years. I miss calling and hearing her Lovely, sweet voice. We shared many of our life stories with each other. I will carry the wisdom she shared with me always.

Betty was deeply saddened over the loss of her daughter, Wendy. She did the best she could to carry on but it was difficult for her. Betty also shared the fact that she had outlived her entire immediate family. She missed them dearly, and it filled her with sadness.

Betty’s faith in God was strong and we always prayed together before we ended our phone calls. It gave us both a strong sense of peace, and bonded us as family. Betty was always happy when I asked her to pray with me. She was a lady filled with Love, wisdom, beauty, intelligence, kindness, and compassion. I feel honored to have known, and Loved her for so many years.

Although we lived on opposite sides of the state of Tennessee from each other, we were strongly bonded. Every holiday, I sent her a gift to remind her of how much she is valued and Loved.

When Wendy became sick, she would ask me to call her Mom as much as possible, and I was already doing that with pleasure. Betty and I would share stories, laugh together, say our prayers and always say “I Love you” to each other before we ended our phone calls.

Bob and Wendy Welch, Betty Cartwright and me, shared a deep, Love together that continues to live in my heart every day.

I thank God for allowing me to know and Love Betty! It makes me sad that Betty and I were so close, and bonded as friends, yet born so many years apart. I believe that our natural born years apart brought balance to the friendship. I wanted more years of friendship with Betty but God’s plan is perfect, and He called her home. Now, Betty, Wendy and Bob are together in that “sentimental gentle wind.” The aforementioned phrase is an excerpt from one of the many hit songs that Bob Welch wrote, entitled "Sentimental Lady." Bob used to call me his "Sentimental Doctor!"

This is Betty’s favorite poem, and she introduced it to me...

“My Mom is the wisest and most Loving woman that I have ever known.”

Mom Loves God, and everyone she encounters. She laughs a lot and until she cries. It is common to see tears streaming down her face from laughing so hard. She eats whatever she wants in moderation, is an amazing cook, shares her lunch with someone every day, has never had a habit of anything, and enjoys honoring and celebrating Christmas with her beautiful lights more than anyone I know.

Some of Mom's most enjoyable hobbies are decorating for holidays, especially at Christmas. People all over Kingsport, TN tell us that they look forward to seeing Mom's Christmas lights each year.

She also truly enjoys feeding the birds at work and home. Everyone around her offers to help feed the birds outside. I have literally seen Mom sit and look through the window with a lovely smile on her face because she is watching the birds eat. Mom has always said that you can love all animals even if you don't own one. She adores my little Yorkie Tenderpups, Blue, Ridge, Fox, and Page. She feeds, plays and talks to them every day at the office, and claims that they belong to her!! She is such a classy lady and is known as the matriarch of our family.

Mother is a nurse and has been all of my life. Our whole family would always call and ask medical advice from my Mom. Her patients always wrote letters about how much care, encouragement and Love she embraced them with while they were in the hospital. In my mind, she is just as great a nurse as she is a Mother to me.

Mom was there the first day I opened my practice, and still leads it today. Many patients call our office just to talk to my Mother.

Mom is filled with Love, laughter, intelligence, compassion and has lots of energy. I have told my Mom many times that I could not have ordered her and Dad off of a menu as parents any better than God has blessed me with naturally! I am eternally grateful to God for the gift of my parents.

Mom relies only on God as her source of faith, Love and strength. She lives her life for God, family, friends and her patients. Mom is the glue that holds our family together.

She is a gifted nurse with decades of experience. Mom is always full of hope, sees the best in everything and is dedicated to her family and patients.

Adults, children and animals adore Mom. She has such a positive spirit within her. Mom tells you exactly what she thinks, has an angelic face that does not seem to age and shares her knowledge and wisdom.

She encourages me to do my best in all things. Mom is my role model and exactly who I wanted to be like when I grew up. I deeply look forward to seeing and being with her every day.

She adorned my Dad's heart like an emblem on the hood of a car. He lit up when she walked into the room. Dad wanted Mom to touch everything he ate or the clothes he wore.

Mom is one of a kind. This is the woman that God made! God made her Loving hands which have cared for me and many others for a lifetime. She remains my best friend, no matter my age. I Love her with all of my heart!

One of my favorite traditions that Mom started when my sisters and I were born, was to put a one dollar bill in our birthday card each year. This one dollar bill means so much to my sisters and me because it symbolizes that we are special in her eyes. My sisters and I look forward to getting our one dollar bill in our birthday card every year!

“The world is God's laboratory of nature ... we live life's daily mortal experiments while seeking spiritual wholeness.”

The first time I ever said this quote to one of my close friends, she replied, “that is deep!” I laughed and said, “Well, God made me deep and you are going to need a pair of boots for this one!”

Everything we do each day is like a mortal experiment in God’s laboratory of nature. He created us and all of nature, according to His perfect plan!

We are blessed to have been given the gift of existence by our Heavenly Father God! We were made from the Spirit of God. He breathed the breath of life into our nostrils! Hey Hallelujah!

God wants us to be fruitful and enjoy our lives while we are obedient in serving Him and others. He Loves us even when we think we are unlovable. There is nothing that we could do to make Him Love us more.

We strive to seek spiritual wholeness by asking for His guidance in order to remain in His will.

Daily mortal experiments try to get in our spiritual way. He speaks to our hearts! Are we willing to listen?

He gives us the ability to make choices. We embrace our spiritual boldness because we are “Soldiers of the Light.”

A few years ago, one of my lifelong friends, Angela Estes Ireson, lost her son, Sam. He passed away from a motorcycle wreck. Angela and I had not spent much time together in years except for occasionally bumping into each other in town. We grew up together, went to school together and were both in the same sorority. She and I considered each other as lifelong sisters.

After the tragic loss of Angela’s son, I immediately reached out to her. Although she is a woman of great faith, this tragedy made her very distraught, depressed and filled with anxiety. I wanted to show great support to Angela but did not have any specific plans initially. I invited her to come to my downtown office so we could pray together and talk.

Angela had not been able to work due to the extreme stress she had been experiencing since her son died. At that moment, I decided to reach out to Loved ones for any financial help (starting with myself) while she was out of work. Donations started pouring in for her. She was able to begin to heal emotionally without feeling pressured to work. Next, when she was ready, I offered her a position at my office. She graciously accepted.

One day, I was in my private office and Angela asked me if we could talk. She said she wanted to thank me for everything I did to help her heal spiritually, emotionally and financially during such a difficult time in her life. Lastly, she informed me that I had helped save her life. I was puzzled and asked her to explain what she meant. She informed me that she had planned the exact way and place to commit suicide the very same day that I had originally asked her to come to my office. I was stunned!

I reflected back on that day that she initially came to my office. I remember how I held her for hours on the couch in the lobby while she cried. I had no idea at the time that she had suicide on her mind. I am so thrilled that she did not commit suicide because she is a child of God and a grandmother now!

Angela informed me many times that the most important thing she learned from being with all of us at the office was something my Mom always told her to remember, “It is well but I am not satisfied.” This way of thinking reminds us every moment to put God first and continue serving Him exultantly!

Prayers, another day and another year, make a huge difference in your life. My entire family Loves Angela! She is Loving, kind, compassionate and makes everyone laugh! God utilized me as a vessel of Love and hope for my friend. Hey Hallelujah!

When I was about eight years old, I was playing outside with some of my neighborhood friends and my oldest sister, Linda, was watching me while my parents were at work. I was playing in the yard with some of my friends and looked up and saw Ricky and Gregory Watterson riding shiny bicycles on the sidewalk in front of our house.

Ricky was riding a shiny blue, Schwinn bicycle that was a five speed and had a very comfortable banana seat. He and his brother, Gregory, stopped for a moment to talk to us. I really liked Ricky’s bicycle and was admiring it.

Ricky said, “Would you like to have this bicycle?” I said, “sure, but it belongs to you so how can that happen?” He said, “I will be glad to sell it to you.” My sister, Linda, was behind me, and she had heard the whole conversation. She negotiated the deal to buy the bicycle from Ricky for twenty-five dollars. That was a lot of cash for children back in the early seventies!

Linda paid Ricky twenty-five dollars cash and he got off the bicycle and handed it to me. I could not believe that this shiny blue, five speed, Schwinn bicycle with the comfortable banana seat belonged to me now! Linda had a great job and wanted to do this for me. I was so happy and thrilled! Ricky’s brother, Gregory, gave him a ride home on his bicycle, and I rode my new bicycle all day long!

To this day, I have this bicycle in my garage and it still looks almost brand new. I took such good care of this bicycle! Every time I look at that Schwinn bicycle, I think of my sister, Linda. She was kind enough to buy that bicycle for me without asking her to do so. The symbol of Love that this bicycle represents means so much more than the bicycle itself.

This is one of the epic, childhood moments that remains in my heart and mind throughout my entire life!

"Timeless Friendship," was written in honor of Karen Ann Davidson Fandl. Karen, my lifelong friend of thirty years, was called to her Eternal Home to be with the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ and our Almighty Father God! She is in front of God, a soldier of the Light, and covered in Glory! She was a skilled Registered Nurse and lived her life celebrating others! Karen made you feel like you were the most important person in the world every time you saw her!

Over the years, Karen and I helped each other through the best and hardest times of our lives. She was a rare and unique friend because she truly Loved me unconditionally.

Many years ago, Karen dedicated the song entitled, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Dianna Ross to our friendship. This was the final song that was played at her funeral service in which her family had asked me to officiate. It was beautiful because everyone was standing with their arms in the air celebrating her life as the song was being played. Karen lived her life Loving and serving the Lord!
