The topic for today's episode was sparked by a listener who contacted me about a problem. She was frustrated by a company who she did business with that never delivered on their promises. In her case, she will definitely say "no" to this business from here on out. But she also may be more apt to say "no" to the next company based on her current experience(s). Customers may say "no" to you for any of these 4 reasons: 1) You haven't built a connection. 2) You have failed to execute. 3) You haven't asked them to buy. 4) You only ask them to buy one time.

A major part of executing in sales is actually doing what you say you are going to do for a client. They are expecting you to follow-through and if you don't, they will refuse to be a soundboard for you within their network of people. Another important aspect of executing is actually delivering results. The more consistent you can be, the better opportunities you will have to write your future.

The success of any company or individual is driven by sales. In this episode, I discuss the definition of selling and the 4 different people that we sell to: 1) - those who want to do 2) - those who don't want to do 3) - those who need to do 4) - and those who can't make a decision on their own

Customers buy from confident salespeople. This episode will outline the differences between being confident vs. cocky as well as being assertive vs. aggressive. Confidence is about controlling the process. You have to be confident in your ability, in your company, in your offering and in your promises.
Sales is fun for different reasons for different people but we can all agree that it is fun when customers say yes! Everything we talk about with this podcast is getting customers to say yes and then to say yes again. My recommendations are simple: celebrate those yesses and study - using resources, study yourself, study your surroundings and study the customer. As long as you do those things, sales will continue to be fun for you.
Customers can tell when we are not being genuinely genuine. Oftentimes we fake be genuine in order to try to move the sale forward. But what that actually does is to perpetuate the stereotype of salespeople while driving a wall between you and the client. By being genuinely genuine, your probability of closing the sale is much higher and more profitable.

"I want to think about it" - these 6 words can send chills down the spine of a salesperson. It tells you that something didn't go right up to this point because customers only say "I want to think about it" when they really don't want to tell you what the real reason is. This episode talks about why the offering itself HAS to be PERFECT.
PERFECT is defined as having all the required or desirable elements, qualities or characteristics. It is also defined as "as good as it is possible to be".
The customer usually only wants to "think about it" when you E.xplain Your Value Proposition to them. And that only means that the value doesn't outweigh the investment in their minds yet. Because when it does, they will figure out a way to pay for what they really want.
So focus on A.sking the Right Questions in order to L.and Them on the PERFECT Offering!
The Stop Selling Pain episode expounds on some points in Robert Herjavec's book The Will To Win: Leading, Competing, Succeeding. The first point we highlight out of the book is that "Pleasure is an easier sell than pain". Most of us have heard that we need to address the customer's pain points but that only gives them a negative memory of the interaction with us. The book reminds us that "customer will always remember how they felt during your sales presentation long after they have forgotten the features you told them about". And lastly we discuss how "saying 'yes' isn't an expression of approval of you; it's an approval of the deal you're offering and the way you're offering it".
Selling is fun. Not selling is not. And sometimes we get in a funk where we may go a day, a few days, a week or a month where we're "off our game". If and when that happens, listen to this episode for 3 easy tips on how to get out of that funk. (If you are having 2 bad months back-to-back, then you probably need to listen to Episode 21 - Are You Considering a Change in Sales?)
My 3 tips for getting out of a funk are: 1) Focus like an NFL quarterback when he is not on the field. Study what you did and what you should have done before it gets too late. 2) Remember why you sell. Is it for the money, the thrill or because you like to help others? Maybe it is for another reason. But remind yourself why you sell, why you sell what you sell and why you sell where you sell. 3) Stay positive. Having a positive mental attitude (PMA) will greatly decrease the chances of you being in a funk for long. Negativity will only prolong the situation that you're in and drag you deeper into it.
If you haven't yet listened to Episode 8, make sure to go back an check it out prior to listening to this one. Episode 8 is a stark contrast to this episode and there will be some references to that episode that serve best if they are fresh in your memory. This episode chronicles a recent experience that I had with a door-to-door salesman who was very good at S.etting himself apart. He actually do a great job of building rapport while proceeded to pull me along through his process. As a Sales Trainer, I gave him words of encouragement along with some tips to increase his closing ratio. All-in-all it was a pleasurable experience and the only reason I didn't buy from him (and his trainee) was that he didn't have the PERFECT offering for me.
Are You Worth the Money?
As we've been discussing E.xplaining Your Value Proposition, it's always been geared towards the offering. But today we will discuss the importance of explaining your personal value proposition in order to increase your income.
