We are entering an era of holistic health and well-being that transcends former ways holistic health was taught. This means that it also involves financial well-being, our faith and spirituality, and honoring that different belief systems can overlap and are available to us. We can use discernment in which belief systems apply to our optimal well-being. This is an era of science and alternative healing -- using the intertwining of ancient wisdom with modern medicine to create an empowering approach that is unique and applicable to each and every individual.Tune in as we dive into these topics and share our personal journeys through conversation with Beena Patel. She is the Founder of The Yoga Movement and a licensed Physician Associate, Yoga Teacher, Reiki Healer, and Health Coach. With clinical training from top academic institutions such as Columbia University Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she blends modern medicine with ancient wisdom to help high-achieving women and organizations shift from burnout to deep alignment. I was blown away by the myriad of health benefits of a tiny molecule composed of 2 hydrogens (H2) after the conversation with today’s guest. I dove into the research myself and saw that the literature has described the anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic properties of molecular hydrogen. The most common methods of administration are inhalation and ingestion of the dissolved molecule in water. Research also shows that endogenous H2 is produced in the intestines, and can be stimulated by dietary intake of turmeric, for example (another win for herbs!).Struggling to find answers and overcome extreme depression due to his compromised immune system, tumors, autoimmune issues, gut health, arthritis, wheelchair-bound immobility, and a very serious heart condition, Greg Hman began his own journey to heal himself and discovered hydrogen along the way. Studying the complex compound for four years, he implemented it into his health regimen and reversed his health challenges.Greg discusses the endless health benefits of hydrogen including longevity, gut health and improving chronic health issues. Greg also talks about how it helps support the body through a variety of stressors including: EMF radiation, skincare, tumors, hormone imbalances and COVID-19.Connect with Greg via:Email:support@holyhydrogen.com Website: Holy Hydrogen FB: Holy HydrogenIG: @holy.hydrogenYT: https://www.youtube.com/@UPRISING144KWorks Cited:Ge L, Yang M, Yang NN, Yin XX, Song WG. I have used the word “impressive” more times than I could count when conversing with today’s guest, whose passion is to reconnect people to the wisdom of ancestral eating. For him, this work is deeply personal—it’s not just about creating a product, but about addressing the nutritional deficiencies that are at the root of so many modern health challenges. James Barry is on a mission to make organ meats, which are some of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, accessible and enjoyable for everyone. He wants to break down the barriers of stigma and convenience that often keep people from embracing these powerful foods. He believes that merging traditional wisdom with modern convenience is the key to true wellness. Food is medicine, and by embracing nutrient-rich, whole foods, we can heal not just our bodies but also our connection to the planet and each other. His hope is to inspire listeners to see that small, intentional changes can have a profound impact on their health and vitality. It’s about making health accessible, sustainable, and, most importantly, enjoyable.James Barry’s 20 years in the culinary field started as a private chef cooking for celebrities such as Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Gerard Butler, Mariska Hargitay (of Law & Order:SVI fame), Barbra Streisand, and John Cusack. James is CEO & Founder of the organ-based, superfood seasoning, Pluck. It's the first of its kind and an amazingly easy and delicious way for people to get organ meats into their diet.James is also a published cookbook author having co-authored the recipes in Margaret Floyd’s book Eat Naked and Dr. Alejandro Junger’s book, Clean 7. Today I am sharing an important conversation with one of my primary herbal teachers, about the micro and macro views of health and healing. Modern life too often disassociates us from our innate identity and relationship with our greater ecosystem, biome, and planet. Herbal medicine, when practiced deeply and mindfully, goes beyond a simplistic replacement of conventional medicine with "natural" remedies, but moves us sometimes subtly and sometimes profoundly toward a recovery of our biological identities. The human body has the innate power to heal itself. Without this power to self heal, even the most advanced medications and surgical procedures would ultimately fail. The role of the herbalist in the healing process is to consider the client as a whole person, and to consult her/him/them concerning changes in lifestyle, diet, herbs, and supplementation in order to foster an increased state of balance and health - thus maximizing the body’s self healing capabilities.Herbal medicine is not only the people's medicine, it is the planet's medicine. While we celebrate the increasing popularity of using herbs, we need to ensure herbal traditions remain true to our roots and accessible to all.Richard Mandelbaum RH is a clinical herbalist with a private practice, offering personalized health consultations, online and in person in the southern Catskills, NY. Richard has been an avid student of our native flora for close to forty years, and in addition to seeing clients he teaches classes in clinical herbal medicine, field botany, and phytochemistry. He is a co-founder and core instructor at the ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism and is on the faculty at David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies and the Won Institute of Graduate Studies. He has been a Registered Herbalist since 2003 and was a member of the American Herbalists Guild board of directors from 2012 to 2018. A Functional Medicine Approach for the Best Menstrual Cycles You’ve Ever Had with Nicole Robinson, PharmDToday’s episode dives into something that’s frankly underestimated and not talked about enough: women’s health. Not only are women underrepresented in clinical studies, but they’re frequently told that their suffering is either “normal” or “all in their head.” Or they’re prescribed a bunch of pharmaceuticals that haven’t been extensively studied in their bodies, especially for long-term effects. My guest today believes that when women’s health is optimized, they can GIVE 100% to their daily tasks and FIND MORE JOY in life. It's that simple. And women’s health is intimately connected to their hormones, emotions, and their menstrual cycles. So let's stop making menstrual health a taboo subject, and make it a priority instead.Dr. Robinson always felt a calling to help others in the area of health and wellness. At the age of 9, she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that was put into remission using conventional medicine. She never forgot the kindness shown by her doctors and wanted to ‘pay it forward’.This passion for health took her to the medical field. She graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 2011 and began working for the U.S. Army as a pharmacist. Upon completing her time in the service, she began working for CVS pharmacy in 2017.In 2020, Dr. Robinson was introduced to the world of Functional Medicine. Within a few months, she achieved certification as a practitioner through Functional Medicine University, quit her job at CVS and branched out on her own. All this time, she recognized there were still some unresolved issues in her health. Using a holistic approach, she started doing the work, seeing results and helping others do the same. She currently owns a 1-on-1 practice where she inspires, educates and coaches women to the healthiest version of themselves.Connect with Nicole via:Email: drrobinson@wentzvillesynergyfm.com Website:Lucerna Functional MedicineFB:Lucerna Functional MedicineIG:@drrfunctionalmedLinked In: Nicole (Mennemeier) RobinsonLink to my "No More Period Pain" guide- https://www.canva.com/design/DAGb0yGxWiE/K4Pv-SGOo-rHHDs_koyyEw/view?utm_content=DAGb0yGxWiE&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=uniquelinks&utlId=h3d0149e26bVisit https://marinabuksov.com for more holistic content. With more health experts than ever, we have more complexity and confusion about what it actually takes to be healthy in 2025. Being 40 pounds overweight, under-trained, over-stressed, under-slept and drinking alcohol daily, he learned that this lifestyle could deprive him of decades. Using wearables he found a way to track and regulate his nervous system and physiology.Tune in to learn about the practical and accessible way to read your body’s signals to create wellness.PS I’m celebrating being named in the Top 80 Pharma Podcasts and Top 100 Health Science Podcasts! I’m closing out the season with another wonderful and inspiring guest who shares her quest for health that led her to look at herself from a lens of love and starting from the basics.Kortney Leany, born near the picturesque Rocky Mountains of Colorado, grew up as the middle child in a loving family. Her journey of self-discovery began early, balancing parental expectations with her desire to forge her own path. Despite a small frame and an awkward growth spurt in high school, Kortney found her passion in weightlifting in 2012. Competing in four fitness competitions, she marveled at the body’s adaptability but also faced the harsh realities of strict diets, leading to health issues like anxiety and extreme fatigue.Driven by her experiences, Kortney delved into gut health, sharing her struggles on social media and connecting with many who faced similar challenges. Her quest for natural healing led her back to basics: grounding, sunshine, and whole foods. Now, as a mother of two, she is dedicated to educating others about the profound impact of gut health on overall well-being, embodying resilience and the power of natural healing. She has joined forces with Vital Earth Minerals, a supplement company with the same passion for natural and holistic wellness as her own, and together they are working on bringing simple solutions to living healthier lives.Have a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to reconnecting with you next year on the Holistic Pharmacy Podcast!Connect with Kortney Leany via:Email: marketing@vitalearthminerals.com Website: Vital Earth MineralsFB: Vital Earth MineralsIG: @kortneyshaynLinked In: Vital Earth Minerals, L.L.C.YouTube: @vitalearthminerals20% OFF first order for everyone in the audience using code HPP20Visit https://marinabuksov.com for more holistic content. Today I had the best time recording this episode with a colleague I’ve known from the holistic pharmacy field for quite some time and we chat about taking control of your health, and living your healthiest, happiest life possible.I’m thrilled to introduce Rene Jahnke —a pharmacist-turned-holistic practitioner with a powerful story of taking control of her health and transforming her life. After working as a pharmacist and pharmacy manager for 26 years, she realized that putting everyone else’s needs first had taken a toll on her own mental and physical health. That wake-up call led her to pursue her passion for holistic health, training through various courses, and ultimately earning her Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner Certification in September 2023.Today, she not only works as the Course Administrator at FDN, supporting and cheering on students as they grow in their health journeys, but she also runs her own business, Wellness Rx Integrative Health. Through her practice, she focuses on helping women in their 40s and 50s balance hormones, heal their gut, and reclaim control of their health. Rene’s story is a powerful reminder that you can live your healthiest, happiest life while thriving in a fulfilling career. I firmly believe that holistic lifestyle medicine is the way to better overall health outcomes and it can be an easy addition to your existing practice. So I recently had a Masterclass with today’s podcast guest covering the 5 Critical Daily Business Activities For Massive Impact And Growth In 2024 - and she is sharing some of these tips on today’s episode! Laura Baum is a holistic business coach who helps health service-based providers, who work on their feet many hours a week, shift into new types of product offerings that don't require as much energy or time out of them, but still adds impact, value and money to their bottom lines. She also helps these providers step into new leadership roles to strengthen their industries.Laura is the creator of Everyday Holistic, a health coaching model that makes herbalism and holistic lifestyle tools very easy for health service-based practitioners' patients/ clients to implement without many hours-of-service fulfillment required by them. This creates a sustainable solution to build and grow a business without overexertion fulfilling services but still making a notable impact.Laura was a health practitioner who was only serving in a single session type model (50 + hours service fulfillment a week, multiple locations). If she could not fulfill services everything would stop and that felt terrible. She decided to learn how to make that not the case. Now her company, Laura's Botanicals has a multi-platform voice, a team of VA's and products that sell while she is away doing other things which equals less stress around service fulfillment.Laura is also the coordinator of the Richmond, Virginia Chapter of Advance Innovation Society and she offers monthly meet ups in the downtown/ arts district of Richmond, Virginia.Connect with Laura Baum:Website: Laura's BotanicalsFB: Laura's Botanicals LLC.IG: @laurasbotanicalsLI: Laura BaumGifts from Laura:-Help your community start and grow a health supporting garden with our gardening course that is free to access here: https://learn.laurasbotanicals.com/workshop-signup -Help your community develop their own holistic lifestyle workspace in their homes so that they can integrate holistic tools on their own successfully with our course that is free to access here: https://dYYwLvVGJ9ppi5gieK00.memberships.msgsndr.com/offers/564f8f89-39a0-46a6-976b-e7009d35142e-Grab the replay from our recent Masterclass: 5 Critical Daily Business Activities For Massive Impact And Growth In 2024 https://youtu.be/dc6pBV8XgIAQuote: : “Energy Is Everything”Visit https://marinabuksov.com for more holistic content. The age-old Hippocratic saying that all disease begins in the gut is proven time and time again in practice. It is one of the greatest legacies that he bestowed upon the medical field, along with the Hippocratic oath to “do no harm.” So today, my guest and I will explore how the gut can have a hand in every disease state, and also can be a therapeutic target to promote health.Dr. Inna Melamed is a Doctor of Pharmacy, a functional medicine practitioner, an expert in gut and hormone health, and a Crohn’s patient in remission. Her career started as a traditional pharmacist and her mission later became to heal herself and help others with chronic gut and hormone problems. She became certified in functional medicine clinical training with Dr. Daniel Kalish. In December of 2017 she earned her PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree from one of the top pharmacy schools in the U.S., University of Florida, graduating cum laude, to broaden her clinical knowledge and incorporate that into her functional medicine practice.Since opening her practice, Real Health Solutions, she has helped thousands of clients with their IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), digestive problems, hormone imbalances, and other chronic conditions that could not have been resolved by traditional medicine alone. Dr. Inna successfully incorporates her extensive knowledge of functional medicine into every case that comes into her practice. It’s true what the forefather of modern medicine said about disease originating in the gut. Following in Hippocrates’s footsteps, my podcast guest will be sharing how fixing your gut health can and will help fix any other issues you may have.Dr. Loredana Marzullo Shapson, PharmD, FNTP is the founder of LifeMod Solutions, a holistic health practice in Newtown, PA. She is a pharmacist turned holistic with the mission to empower her patients to know they can heal at any age by providing answers, education and tools to live more naturally in our modern world. Dr. Loredana earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) at Temple University in 2012 and is a pharmacist licensed in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In addition, she is a certified Primal Health Coach (PHC), a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP), a Reiki Level II practitioner, and trained in energy medicine using muscle response testing techniques to analyze neurological reflexes.Whatever you put in your mouth, whether it be a food, a prescription medication, a dietary supplement, a nutraceutical, a herb, you name it, Dr. Loredana has the unique advantage of understanding how it impacts your health. After working in a pharmacy for more than 12 years, Dr. Loredana realized that prescription medications are not the answer to our chronic health problems, rather they act as band-aids, masking symptoms, and ignoring the root cause of illness and dis-ease. Thus, dis-ease continues and progresses, new symptoms arise, and health continues to degrade.Dr. Loredana has dedicated her life to research, continuing education and training, and she has uncovered the leading factors that negatively impact our health. From pain to purpose, she successfully reversed her own health challenges including high blood pressure, weight loss, adrenal fatigue, and recurrent bacterial infections that required multiple rounds of antibiotics. Dr. Loredana was diagnosed with high blood pressure at 19 years old, and worked through three doctors that chalked it up to hereditary factors, and took 2 prescription medications for over a decade. After uncovering her root causes, which were heavy metal toxicity mercury and aluminum, she learned how to detox her body. Dr. Loredana is passionate about teaching others how to regain control of their health so they can take on life’s challenges full of youth, energy and vitality.Connect with Dr. Loredana Marzullo Shapson via:Learn more at Lifemodsolutions.com and @lifemodsoltuions Follow on her on Instagram, and FacebookCheck out her @lifemodsolutions YouTube channel with Gut health tips here Get rid of bloat within days with her Belly Bloating Fixer Elixir Tea FREE Recipe hereLearn about her Bye Bye Bloat for Women: 2 Week Online Program here Join Dr. Loredana Private Facebook group 'LifeMod Insiders Holistic Health' and connect with her directly hereSpecial Offer:Get 50% off an initial consultation visit with Dr. Loredana by mentioning this podcast interview. Welcome back to the show everyone! This week I’m celebrating my daughter’s second birthday, and on that note I'm also looking to build a better future for our children, and their children! My guest and I will be discussing how we are surrounded by more toxins than ever before. Scientists and doctors know wireless signals can affect the body, similar to other man-made toxins. On top of this, our food is no longer giving us the correct nutrients we need to be resilient to these toxins. There is a need to help people’s bodies become more resilient to our modern lifestyle, and certain nutritional supplements can help!Kylen Ribeiro is the Chief Executive Officer at Lightbody, and is responsible for leading the strategic growth of the company. Her collegiate swimming career, B.S. in Marketing and Management, and MBA from Florida State University is complemented by a yoga instructor certification and background in digital wellness.Kylen has been an integral part of creating an entirely new market of EMF protection from her work with DefenderShield, and is passionate about raising awareness about this growing public health concern, especially with regards to children.Kylen and her team knew they could do more to help protect people from toxins from technology so they set out to complement their external protection products with supplements to help the body become more resilient to EMFs, blue light, and other toxins at the cellular level. Using the latest research and knowledge from their relationships with doctors, physicians, researchers, biologists, scientists, health experts and formulators, they created a new company, Lightbody. In her personal time, Kylen loves to spend time with her two sons and husband, Alan, who owns Caridian Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Tampa, FL.I absolutely loved our conversation about conservation, innovation and sustainability this week. Greetings, dear listeners. I hope you had a happy and healthy Thanksgiving to start this holiday season. For me it’s always a great reminder of counting one’s blessings, not only seasonally but having a dedicated gratitude practice. Now without further ado I’d like to introduce my next guest, with whom I share a mission to optimize your health in order to maximize your wellbeing. As working moms, we are all too familiar with the need to be superhumans - raising kids, taking care of families, and managing professional careers. I had a fascinating conversation full of similarities with Stephanie Smith, PharmD, CHC, who coaches moms to prioritize their wellness by tuning into their own bodies, by resting and refueling, and by building endurance through exercise and movement. After obtaining her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Stephanie began working with Pfizer as a medical education consultant. As her clinical experience grew, she eventually moved into a more patient centered practice at Mount Sinai Medical Center before assuming another teaching role in the Pharmacy Practice Residency at Temple University Hospital. During the near decade at Temple, she provided direct patient care in the surgical/trauma critical care unit and worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as mentored/precepted pharmacy students and residents, and served as adjunct faculty for Temple. During this time Stephanie saw countless patients getting acutely better but struggling with multiple chronic diseases and the endless medication list that goes along with it. She began to truly understand the roles that diet and exercise play in the trajectory of health inside and out of the hospital. Her own health began to change as well. It was through her own personal experiences with Crohn’s Disease and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis that it became clear just how challenging it can be to live with chronic illness and more importantly, how rewarding it is to defeat them through healthy lifestyle choices and practices. As Stephanie’s health grew, so too did her family, and she learned firsthand the obstacles that other women face as her role expanded to spouse and mother of two beautiful daughters. These new responsibilities forced her to reconcile and realign her identity and passions. She left clinical practice to pursue a career in health coaching and functional medicine. This was the change that ultimately gave rise to Master Her Health, her business that applies a background of traditional western medicine and pharmacy to an integrative program incorporating natural diet, exercise and rest techniques to build a community of healthy and strong moms across the country.Long story short, Stephanie transforms women from hungry, stressed, and tired to fit, confident, and healthy.Who doesn’t need some of that? Hi Dear Ones,I’m back this week with another brilliant pharmacist whose core message is: You are not your disorder, don’t let labels define you! It’s always a joy to have incredible conversations with incredible people on this podcast. Today I am interviewing a dear colleague and co-author of the book Beyond the Counter, and we discuss why it's so important to take care of your body, and mind NOW. You're either paying for prevention now, or treatment later.

Dr. Melissa Hetrick, PharmD, BCPS, is a clinical staff pharmacist at Lehigh Valley Health Network, and a Sales Coordinator at The Juice Plus + Company. She is currently a clinical pharmacist for the Integrative Care Coordination team, a division of Population Health, at Lehigh Valley Health Network. She has previously practiced within the inpatient setting for the first 15 years of her career focusing on areas such as pediatrics, parenteral nutrition, operating room satellite, and intravenous compounding as well as specializing in Hematology/Oncology at the LVHN Topper Cancer Institute for the past 5 years.

Dr. Hetrick guides hard-working women down a clear path of health and wellness, replacing unfavorable habits with simple changes to attain confidence and balance. Her dream is to help these women and their families learn how to prevent disease with food as their medicine, rather than treating it with an overload of prescription medications.

Tune into the episode to hear how even “bad” things can have silver linings and share this with a friend who may be struggling!

Today I talk with a fellow pharmacist who became a patient going through our healthcare system, desperate for answers and having to advocate for herself from the other side of the treatment counter. We discuss what it takes to stay healthy in today’s post-COVID world when so much remains shrouded in mystery, and yet going back to the basics of self-care can still make a difference.

Long-COVID symptoms are very real and affect a significant part of the population. As healthcare providers it behooves us to gain a general understanding of the disease so we can be there for our patients and provide them with symptom mitigation strategies.

Salam Kabbani is an infectious diseases pharmacy specialist at Olathe Medical Center. She graduated with her doctor of pharmacy degree from California Health Sciences University in 2019 and then went on to complete a PGY1 pharmacy residency at Cleveland Clinic South Pointe hospital. Despite being fully vaccinated at the time, she had a breakthrough COVID infection with the delta variant in August of 2021 which was then followed by a long-COVID journey.

Becoming disabled changed her life in so many ways both good and bad, and she decided to write a memoir detailing her long-COVID journey to raise awareness about the condition, and most importantly to let other long-haulers know that they are not alone and they matter. She is now proudly a patient advocate and believes in spreading empathy through honest and open communication. Her book “COVID Long-Hauler: My Life Since COVID” is available in print, ePub, and audiobook and can be found on Amazon.

Hello everyone, I’m super excited to release this next episode that was recorded at the start of this year. We covered so many topics near and dear to my personal and professional mission and I’m so honored to introduce my next guest and what he is contributing to healthcare.

Dr. Rohit Moghe is an ambulatory care & population health clinical pharmacist for accountable care organization (ACO) at Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic. He is originally from the Philadelphia area. Dr. Moghe is a residency-training pharmacist with a master's in public health and a certified diabetes care & education specialist with over 22 years of experience across various therapeutic areas and whole continuum of care. Dr. Moghe is active in leadership at both Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists as well as American College of Lifestyle Medicine as Co-Chair of the pharmacist group.

His diverse professional and life experience has led him to understand that most chronic conditions don't need to be managed with medications. However, if we must use them, we should be delivering comprehensive medication management (CMM) and get paid for the work that we do. His specialty is deprescribing medications, BUT, if they are to be ramped down, we must ramp up people's lifestyle. He uses the six pillars of lifestyle medicine: nutrition, enjoyable physical activity, restful sleep, addressing stress, reducing risky behaviors (& substances), and positive social connections. The stuff we should all optimize, but always pay enough attention to it. He focuses a lot on coaching his patients and clients through change.

He is also a 200-hr yoga teacher registered through the Yoga Alliance and practices many forms of meditation and deep breathing exercises. Having grown up in yoga since an early age, application of Ayurvedic principles in his lifestyle come naturally to him, including appropriate use of herbal and natural remedies.

Hello dear listeners, I am just coming off an extended 4th of July break and hope you all are enjoying the summer so far and celebrating every occasion the season offers. One of the things I cherish most in my life is spending time with family, and one of my biggest blessings has been becoming a mother.

Today I’m interviewing a fellow holistic-minded pharmacist and mother, who shares my passion and belief that we have the power and ability to change our health. We talk about feeling confident and empowered to advocate for your health choices, and going beyond the conventional during one’s fertility journey.

Dr. Katie Wood is a mother, Pharmacist and Integrative Fertility Coach. She is the founder of Pharm to Wellness LLC and the brand Happy Nourished Motherhood. Katie helps women over 30 to nourish their mind & body for optimal fertility health so they can confidently conceive with ease.

Katie comes from 8 years of experience as a retail pharmacist. This background in conventional medicine is what first piqued her awareness that people need more intimate coaching towards health and vitality without depending on pharmaceuticals. Hello everyone! I don’t know about you but this last week has been feeling a bit heavy for me. However, this episode is just the thing for you if you’re feeling the same weight, because I’m interviewing Alex Barker of The Happy PharmD.

Alex’s mission is to transform the profession so every pharmacist can unlock their career’s potential. He strives for pharmacists to love pharmacy again.

Alex Barker is the CEO and Founder of The Happy Pharm D, a nationwide coaching firm guiding pharmacists to inspiring careers and more fulfilling lives. Alex is an accomplished public speaker, a published author and teacher. Since 2017, his coaching program and career development seminars have guided over 2,000 pharmacists into new jobs and roles they love.

His book “Indispensable: A prescription for a fulfilling pharmacy career,” has motivated countless pharmacists to love pharmacy again. Alex is a husband and the proud father of two daughters. He loves drinking coffee and eating good guacamole (though not at the same time). When he isn’t working, which happens occasionally, he plays Nintendo, Dungeon & Dragons, and reads comics.

This episode is very near and dear to my heart because Alex’s blog has put me on the scene of pharmacy experts in the natural and holistic space, and I’m forever grateful. I can’t wait to share this next episode with you so here it is!

Hey everyone! I’m recording this intro after a brief but admittedly scary stint of time stuck indoors yet again, being warned to stay home due to the quality of air pollution from the recent Canadian wildfire.

Meanwhile, I’m super excited to introduce my next guest, who highlights how we can become stewards of the land as herbalists, and showcases how she grew her brand from scratch to a full-blown success story.

Lauren Haynes is the founder and CEO of Wooden Spoon Herbs, a small-batch herbal apothecary brand that offers herbal tinctures, teas and tonics that act as a conduit for plant medicine. Founded in 2014, Lauren has grown Wooden Spoon Herbs into a go-to resource for farm-fresh herbal remedies.

Lauren studied at the Appalachian Center for Natural Health under fifth-generation herbalist Phyllis D. Light. Driven by her desire to introduce more people to herbalism, Lauren started Wooden Spoon Herbs in the farmer's market, crafting products based on the most common concerns she saw. The brand, which has celeb fans like Jessica Alba and Alanis Morrisette, supports a farm-direct supply chain and sources only organic ingredients. Their popular Rose-Colored Glasses tincture has sold out 5 times and is also sold on Goop.

Lauren now has over ten years of experience as a clinical herbalist. Through her herbalist education and practice, Lauren merges functional formations with lifestyle products that appeal to wellness enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Welcome everyone! I'm thrilled to introduce Ziba Ansari, an experienced pharmacist turned parenting expert, who echoes our shared "aha" moments about life, parenting, and spirituality. For 17 years, Ziba pursued a fulfilling career in pharmacy, yet the birth of her daughter stirred a shift within her. Prioritizing quality time with her child, she transitioned to per diem hospital work, a change that proved beneficial during the pandemic. Despite work stressors, she consciously cultivated a serene home life, mirroring the world she wished to inhabit.Ziba's transformation revealed a passion for guiding parents and enhancing children's potential. Inspired by her daughter and her spirituality, she wrote and self-published "The ABCs of Life to Nourish the Mind and Soul of Children" in December 2021. Her daughter was her muse and her gateway to higher dimensions of consciousness.Following this, Ziba ventured into Energy Medicine Yoga (EMYoga) instruction and became a certified parent coach. Blending her pharmacy background, EMYoga expertise, and years of spiritual practice, she established "A Heartful Path". This platform is a nexus for parents seeking self-care and fostering genuine love for their children.Recognizing the need for holistic parenting support, Ziba aims to equip parents with strategies for their demanding role. She likens parenting to marathon running; it requires nourishment, sleep, and a resilient mindset.Ziba's core message to parents is to preserve and embody positivity, as children are intuitive absorbers of their environment. Acknowledge parenting's challenges and joys without succumbing to blame or shame. Be compassionate towards yourself to better support your children.Understanding the significance of holistic health in our connections with children, Ziba offers a program incorporating yoga, meditation, and coaching. She advocates for a soulful approach to life's hurdles, rather than relying solely on pharmaceutical remedies.Connect with Ziba via:Website: www.aheartfulpath.comInstagram: @aheartfulpathFacebook: A Heartful PathEmail: Ziba.aheartfulpath@gmail.comPodcast listeners get a 50% discount on all consultations or packages at www.aheartfulpath.com. I had so much fun recording this episode with my colleague, coach, mentor, and friend Dr. Christina Fontana. We had recorded another episode a while back (link below) when she was using her maiden last name, Tarantola.

From questioning our beliefs, to being raw and vulnerable, to demonstrating how to move and shake up your energetic blocks with Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) & tapping - we go really deep into busting some myths and narratives that we tell ourselves on the daily. One key takeaway here is to follow your desire and lead with your heart, even if that means taking the road less traveled! But you don’t need to go at it alone, it’s allowed to be easy! So give yourself permission and get help from coaches like Christina.

Dr. Christina Fontana, PharmD, CHC, CHt, AKA The Pharmacist Coach®️, is a rapid transformation coach, hypnotherapist, pharmacist, and 5-time author. Her most recent book “Moving Beyond the Counter” is a collaboration that showcased the stories of 20 pharmacists, including myself, and I am so grateful to Christina for bringing us together in this way and forming this brilliant community that is giving permission for others to shine. We are also having a book signing next week on November 12 in Mars, PA, and I personally can’t wait!

Dr. Christina helps pharmacist entrepreneurs release subconscious blocks so you can own your brilliance and scale their profitable healing businesses. She blends hypnotherapy, science-based transformation, and intuitive coaching to help you simplify and scale your heart-centered business with more ease and flow.

For the last 10 years, Dr. Christina has been providing uplifting, transformational content through her YouTube videos, books, courses, programs, and retreats to help women reconnect to their inner light to go from burnt out pharmacist to lit up full-time entrepreneurs! I cannot say enough in this brief intro about how grateful I am for my personal and professional relationship that we have developed together over the years with Dr. Christina, so without further ado I’ll let this episode do the talking.

Today I have a returning guest on the show, Dr. Frieda Wiley, who was on Episode 15 of Season 4. (Listen here: https://www.drmarinabuksov.com/s04e15-writing-your-own-path-w-dr-frieda-wiley/)

We talk about the impact of working from home, and what it means for our overall well being, productivity, and social norms - both pre- and post-pandemic. Frieda Wiley, PharmD, suffered some hard knocks working from home, so she’s written a book to guide how to handle this emerging trend and paradigm - from personal experience.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forever changed the world in many ways—and some for the better. For one thing, it created a safe space for people to finally have some very candid conversations about mental health. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Wiley found herself struggling with mental and physical health while working remotely, and it took her months to discover solutions and recuperate.

In her book, “Telecommuting Psychosis: From surviving to thriving while working in your pajama pants,” Dr. Wiley shares her fool-proof tips on how to manage your time, be more productive, set healthy professional boundaries, and protect (and possibly improve) your physical and emotional health. Hello my dear listeners! For those of you that watch the video versions of my podcasts, the next couple of episodes did not record my side of the screen for some reason, so you’ll just be seeing the beautiful faces of my guests. Technology, am I right?

Anyway, I can’t wait to introduce you to my next guest! Philipp Samor von Holtzendorff-Fehling is a coach, conscious entrepreneur, and energy healer - and we had the most wonderful conversation.

Originally from Germany, Philipp moved to the US in the ‘90s. After a while, in the US he went back to Europe. In 2010 he finally moved to the US for good, together with his wife and two kids. During his business career, he worked as an executive for several well-known companies, including T-Mobile International and T-Mobile US where he served as Vice President.

In parallel to a successful international business career, he constantly worked through blockages and barriers that prevented him from truly connecting with his true self. With that, he started to also see energy fields and developed his unique skills as a healer, and he went through two decades of training in shamanic and other energy healing practices. Additionally, he learned a whole lot during his wife’s healing journey of many years with chronic Lyme disease that she completely overcame eventually.

Philipp’s core competency is to transform energetic blockages and to open the hidden treasures within one’s self. He understands how it is to have forgotten who we are, why we are here, and how blocked we can be in regards to remembering and accessing our true inner nature, power, and consciousness.

His passion is to help others free their potential and to help spread “tools” in the world that can act as a bridge for humans on the path to fully unlocking access to our full consciousness, e.g., Carbon 60 as well as quantum and frequency technology.

LEELA QUANTUM TECH Leela Quantum Tech has developed a technology to quantum-physically refine any object and to create a variety of products that promote wellness and more for people, pets, and plants.

Today I want to highlight the work of another pharmacy and entrepreneur colleague, Dr. Stephanie Young Moss (aka “Yomo”). She caught my eye on Instagram, where she shines her light on wellness, family dynamics, pharmacy practice, and disparities in healthcare. A practical tip that she shared in the episode has stuck with me, about how learning goes both ways. For example, shadowing allows healthcare students to learn from professionals, but the mentors also get the opportunity to learn. A relationship with someone different than you helps you understand where they’re coming from and how you can serve different populations.

Dr. Stephanie received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy and a Masters of Health Services Administration with a concentration in Health Economics from The University of Wyoming. She has worked in various areas in pharmacy, Community, Regulatory Compliance, Managed Care, and Health Economics and Outcomes Research.

Over the past 20 years Dr. Moss has advocated for decreasing disparities in health care through her volunteer work. She uses her platform to educate families across the U.S. on ways to decrease and eliminate health disparities by incorporating simple wellness and mental health techniques. Dr. Moss has shared her views on international and national podcasts and local television news stations.

Dr. Stephanie is the creator of the website www.drstephanieyomo.com where you will find practical health and wellness tips, ways to reduce healthcare disparities and simple tips for health and wellness professionals to enhance their presence on social media so they can stand out in their niche, build a successful brand and advocate for important causes. She is also the owner of Integrative Pharmacy Outcomes and Consulting, which focuses on educating underserved communities on ways to reduce and prevent health disparities.

For nearly 2 decades, Dr. Stephanie has served on various boards and volunteer organizations that focus on health equity, decreasing implicit bias, addressing social determinants of health and empowering communities to advocate for their health. She has served on the boards for The Minority Health Coalition of Marion County and Eskenazi Health Center where she has served as the Clinical Quality Committee Chair, Board Secretary and is currently the Board Treasurer. She resides in Indianapolis, Indiana.

You can connect with Dr. Yomo on all social media (@Dr. Stephanie Yomo) and www.drstephanieyomo.com.

Hi everyone!

I’m honored to have partnered up with the Pharmacy Podcast Network to reach a wider audience of pharmacists and other healthcare professionals that can get inspired by some of our amazing guests. Today’s guest is no different, and I can’t wait to introduce him. This episode was recorded a while back and our guest has been up to some exciting projects before we got a chance to air it, so make sure to take a look at the shownotes to check out the links we share and to explore his more recent ventures.

Dr. DeLon Canterbury is the CEO/Founder of GeriatRx, a senior care consulting company specializing in Pharmacogenomics, Medication Deprescribing, and Health Cost Savings for providers, caregivers, and patients. Fired in the height of COVID, DeLon took the opportunity to pursue his passion for patient advocacy and empowerment while battling for health equity by addressing social barriers to care. Instead of pursuing another corporate job, he invested in himself and started his own company. GeriatRx has saved his patients well over $150,000 within its first year while keeping loved ones from being involuntarily committed into a nursing home. In the past year, DeLon has garnered attention from numerous media outlets, including ABC, NBC, CBS, and PBS, while also serving as a local COVID expert.

GeriatRx is a pharmacist-led medication management company that focuses on helping overwhelmed caregivers stop their loved ones from being overmedicated using genetic-drug screening, deprescribing, and health cost savings strategies. They specialize in developing medication action plans for patients of all ages, but with a specialty in Geriatric care. Unlike your traditional pharmacist, GeriatRx develops a three month strategy to address overmedicated patients using a holistic and evidence-based approach in accordance with your prescriber so that there are no gaps in communication of care.

Founder of the Deprescribing Accelerator, DeLon envisions all pharmacists and senior care providers as Deprescribing Advocates and coaches professionals how to integrate Deprescribing into their clinical practice! He provides a concierge and personalized approach to health solutions, helping to address financial barriers to care while bridging health care gaps using a specialty service of medication therapy management. His staff are also certified pharmacogenomics counselors, meaning that they are able to screen for harmful drug interactions with your body, and get a closer look at a patient’s genes to assess harmful medication risks in therapy.

Hi there! We will be releasing biweekly episodes on the Holistic Pharmacy Podcast from now on. Last time you met my new cohost Dr. Jenna Carmichael - and today I am airing an interview I conducted with her a little while back when preparing for this season.

Dr. Jenna Carmichael is a graduate of the University of Arizona, College of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 at the Sierra Nevada VA Health Care System in Reno, NV, and her PGY2 in Oncology Pharmacy at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. She spent 5 years working as a Clinical Oncology Pharmacist specializing in Oral Chemotherapy Medication Therapy Management for Geisinger Health Care System and over that time, grew the clinic to over 1000 patients. She also was the PGY2 Oncology Residency Program Director and a clinical researcher.

As a high achiever, over time, Jenna became burnt out, unhappy in her career and life, and knew things needed to change. She was able to find herself again through personal discovery and holistic healing methods. Naturally, she wanted to share this knowledge with her patients but found that the traditional Western Medicine structure didn’t allow for the combination of all of her knowledge.

Dr. Carmichael now runs her own practice as a Holistic Oncology Pharmacist and Health Coach, Wobbly Arrow Wellness. She works virtually with women on the cancer journey looking for a different perspective on wellness. She combines her knowledge in the oncology space along with holistic healing methods of meditation, reiki, and yoga to help empower her clients to choose the path that works the best for their goals. She also offers genetic testing services to get a true, personalized idea of how her clients process their medications for safe and effective therapy.

Wow, I can’t believe we’ve made it to the season finale! To close out the season, I connected with a truly magnificent healer and teacher, who shares her wisdom with patients and practitioners alike.

Dr. Elizabeth Bolen, ND, is an adventurous woman who broke free from conventional paradigms in order to liberate a new era in health. Her tenacity keeps her grounded. Dr. Liz moved to a small town in the Canadian Arctic, pivoted her entire practice virtually, and she continues to build her practice regardless of where her RCMP husband gets posted, all while raising her young child.

Liz is a truly authentic soul that sees your inner magnificence, and listens to you un-judgmentally while holding sacred space for your transformation. Her ability to lovingly call you out on your BS as she compassionately guides you forward, despite yourself, guarantees your success. Feeling trapped and a black sheep all her life, Liz fostered her inner resilience by pushing herself to find freedom that allows her to thrive. The poster child for perfectionist and overachiever, Liz has adopted imperfect action, and finds triumph through wielding the magic of being high functioning.

Walking the “alternative” path, she has found her calling in integrative Quantum Healing. She is calling her kin to find their home in their profession of their dreams. Liz is a wonderful guide on the journey of bridging science, medicine, and magic in the field of Quantum Healing.

Hello, hello everyone! I have to admit this week got away from me and I am a day late posting this episode. Not only that, but I’m preparing for some huge changes here at the podcast and will be taking my end-of-season break here shortly as a result.

Not to worry, I’ll see you on the other side, when I’m back in the fall with a very special premiere of Season 5, so stay tuned!

Today I had the absolute pleasure chatting with the genius nursing major turned pharmacist, with a Masters in Public Health somewhere in between. Oh and did I mention she is also a mother to 5 children?

Y’all, Dr. Adeola Oke does it all!

She is a daughter, wife, mother of five, and the founder of Wellness Surge. She is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist that encourages holistic health through the use of diet, exercise and medications. Over the past 11 years in her professional capacity as a pharmacist, she has used her knowledge of both Western and Natural Supplements in diets to reduce the burden of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

Her passion for reducing the burden of chronic disease and helping people live healthy lifestyles motivated her to earn three prestigious degrees in healthcare. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing; a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Maryland School of Medicine; a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist.

As a working mom, Dr. Oke realizes that most people struggle to find time to care for their health, which she knows from experience, can lead to inflammation and chronic disease. Her commitment to empowering people like her that are stressed by the hustle and bustle of modern-day life led her to create a natural great tasting formula to combat inflammation and support immunity, relieve stress, boost energy.

She is also the Chairman of Honoured Orphans Network, a non-profit established to enhance the lives of orphans through mentorship and financial support.

One of her goals in life is to reduce the burden of poverty, stress and everyday diseases in busy working women. She lives with her husband, mom and 5 kids in Arizona.

Hey there, dear listeners! Today I have a slight deviation from my usual podcasts where I interview a pharmacist or other healthcare professional. Today I’m bringing you the other side of the story, discussing medical research about an invisible and silent environmental pollutant that plagues health, unbeknownst to many of us. We touch on everything from cell phones to wifi to microwaves in this episode! Today we dive deep into industrial electromagnetic toxicity with author and industry leader of EMF radiation, Daniel DeBaun.

Daniel is an internationally recognized expert in EMF radiation, EMF shielding, and EMF-related health issues with special focus on the effect of exposure from mobile devices such as laptops, tablets, and cell phones. Daniel’s concern regarding the health impact of EMF emissions grew from over thirty years of engineering experience in the telecommunications industry, where he held a variety of executive positions at SAIC, Telcordia, AT&T, and Bell Labs. He is the co-author of Radiation Nation: The Fallout of Modern Technology.

Find more information and connect with Daniel via: -DefenderShield Website: https://www.defendershield.com/ -Radiation Nation Book: https://www.defendershield.com/radiation-nation

The constant and ever-increasing exposure to Electromagnetic Frequency (EMF) radiation emitted by cell phones, tablets, laptops, WiFi and Bluetooth is one of the most critical health issues facing our society today.

Researchers have found associations between EMF exposure and neurological degeneration, DNA damage & tumors, and problems with the nervous, immune, and reproductive systems. Health outcomes linked to EMF exposure range from insomnia & ADHD (plus other memory & focus problems), to mental illness, chronic disease states, autism, cancer, & Alzheimer’s.

Studies also indicate that EMF radiation is especially harmful to our developing children, many of whom begin using wireless communication devices before they learn to talk, and are exposed to this radiation while still in the womb.

With 5G — the newest and fastest cellular network — being deployed around the world, DeBaun and many other scientists and researchers are weary of the negative biological impacts this higher-frequency wave might have on humans, animals, crops, and entire ecosystems. Even though EMFs emitted from mobile devices and cell towers can cause biological changes in our bodies, DeBaun says that doesn't necessarily mean that we must give up our gadgets. Fortunately, there are simple and effective steps we can take to minimize the risks posed by EMF emissions, and we explain those steps on our website and in our book.

Hey Holistic Pharmacy listeners, I hope you’ve been enjoying this season so far! If you would like to appear on the show or would like to nominate an inspirational pharmacist, please email me at marina@rawfork.com or drop me a line on IG @rawfork.

This week I met with a wonderful fellow pharmacist who is serving her community by educating and helping set up a strong foundation for health.

Dr. Phyllis Kamau, is a pharmacist, entrepreneur, consultant and patient advocate. She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. She also holds a Bachelor’s in Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

In addition to working as a community pharmacist, she provides personalized diabetes coaching for type 2 adults. While focus is on adults, she believes in teaching children as well so they can have a successful foundation in managing and potentially reversing diabetes. Dr. Kamau knows there is no single approach that works for everyone, so she continues to educate herself in functional medicine and emerging therapies to provide the most comprehensive program that works for each of her client’s individual needs. She teaches and creates awareness about diabetes and is the founder and CEO of Phyl Enterprises, LLC.

Dr. Kamau practices in Houston where she lives with her husband and three kids. She enjoys cooking, traveling and creating memories with her family.

Hola, I’m back from my first-ever LIVE retreat in Costa Rica! If you’re interested in following my journey please tune into my IG profile @rawfork https://www.instagram.com/rawfork/ where I share lots of photos, videos and takeaways from this truly transformative experience. Now let’s get back to today’s podcast episode! I’m super excited to introduce you to my next guest, with whom I had a blast recording, and was surprised at how many things we connect on!

Dr. Frieda Wiley is a licensed pharmacist-turned-freelance medical writer and medical journalist. She has written for numerous organizations, including pharmaceutical corporations, the National Institutes of Health, and O, The Oprah Magazine. She also wrote a health column for WebMD.

Frieda has been writing ever since she can remember, winning awards for her writing since the first grade, and considers herself a writer first and a scientist second.

She accidentally “fell” into technical writing after college, while working as a chemist for an aerospace company whose main customer was the United States Navy. In that role, writing typically meant drafting a lab report, drawing up work orders, or tweaking a standard operating procedure. A few years later, her path became clear when she published her first magazine article and some marketing materials while still in pharmacy school.

Today, Frieda draws from her diverse professional experiences in chemistry, the pharmaceutical industry, and pharmacy practice to produce content in plain language as well as in complex jargon for scientific and medical professionals. She enjoys her work deeply and is committed to serve by crafting meaningful content that engages readers.

Because of his passion for both pharmacy and mental health, Matmon is currently pursuing a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University. Matmon envisions a future where the psychodynamic and pharmaceutical disciplines coexist; not in competition but in unity to support the whole person.

Matmon is the host of The Mindful PharmD Podcast where he invites listeners and guests to explore the mind through genuine conversation, thought-provoking ideas, and the reality that the story of mental health is incomplete.

Matmon and his wife serve as Associate Pastors and currently reside in the Columbia, South Carolina area with their two boys. Matmon enjoys reading complex literature, wrestling with his boys, and nerdy discussions involving superheroes and science-fiction.

Welcome back to the show, everyone. I have a very special, vibrant, passionate guest for today’s episode and can’t wait to get started.

Dr. Nandita Koodie's experience began as a Medical Records Custodian in 2003 working in a general physician's office. She explored the pharmaceutical industry working to fabricate nanoparticles as a researcher during her years earning her Doctorate of Pharmacy at Nova Southeastern University.

Since then, she also worked hands-on with patients and medications through community pharmacies including Walgreens, Publix, and CVS. Dr. Koodie pursued a clinical role as she entered into hospice care space under ProCare pharmacy before gaining additional experience in a position working in Long Term Care at Polaris Pharmacy Services.

Her experiences have made her well-versed in topics surrounding nutrition and chronic disease management of almost every disease state with patients of all ages and various special populations in a multitude of settings. She gained additional knowledge studying abroad in London, France, China, and Japan that has allowed her to share effective herbal therapies that have been successfully utilized for thousands of years.

Her personal experience with gestational diabetes in 2019 led her to passionately pursue the development of the Diabetes Management Telehealth Program (DMTP) as a National Telehealth Network Liaison. She liaises between pharmacies, physicians, third-party payers, and most importantly patients to establish a continuum of care from the physician's office to the patients' homes. Dr. Koodie empowers pharmacists and physicians to effectively manage diabetic patients who suffer from obesity in underprivileged areas through education.

In 2020, Dr. Koodie took her experience to Northern California where she currently promotes county and state collaboration of independent pharmacists and physicians. By 2021, she had blazed a trail to bring inpatient remote services to outpatient settings by working to integrate pharmacists into collaborative roles in 10 states.

Dr. Koodie is also an active Independent Community Pharmacist, Life Coach, Entrepreneurship Coach, Educator through the provision of pharmacist refresher courses and CPJE/NAPLEX preparatory courses, Preceptor for Touro University and The University of Kansas, and Biblical Counselor for the promotion of spiritual health in any patient population. Today, I had the privilege to sit and chat with an esteemed colleague about a very important topic that doesn’t get too much time in the limelight.

Dr. Danielle Plummer is a third-generation pharmacist and former professional figure skater. Living an active lifestyle has been at the forefront throughout her life. She earned her PharmD in 2016 from Creighton University, which has opened up a world of opportunity. She currently works in both hospital and retail pharmacy in Las Vegas and also owns two businesses, teleMDcare and HG Pharmacist.

Danielle’s main focus now is in improving the quality of life for women with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. She’s super passionate about her children (3 daughters ages 15, 19 and 22), her 2 rescue dogs (Charlie and Rex), yoga, weight lifting, collaborative work with other medical practitioners, changing the perception of “morning sickness.”

Through each of her three pregnancies Danielle spent the entire time dealing with nausea and vomiting, which turned out to be Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Later, when in pharmacy school, she learned about nutrition when one can’t eat and was baffled that nutrition was never discussed during her pregnancies. In both retail and hospital, Danielle sees women with this condition and has learned that most medical practitioners do not understand it nor treat it properly.

Now Danielle spends all her spare time supporting women around the world with HG with her consulting business HG Pharmacist. Her goal for 2021 is to hire pharmacists to support the demand that exists. She’s currently finishing up a pharmacogenetic certification course and has started her doula certification. Next she plans to dive deep into functional medicine to combine her knowledge of the body, including nutrigenomics and epigenetics to treat her HG patients.

Hi dear listeners! First of all I want to say that I truly appreciate you tuning in and taking this journey with me.

I look forward to hearing kind feedback from you, so please be sure to subscribe, rate and comment - it really makes my day!

Also if you or someone you know is interested in being a guest on the show, please let me know by emailing marina@rawfork.com. Today I had the pleasure of sitting down with Dr. Jamie Wilkey, a true beam of inspiration.

Jamie grew up in a small town in Wyoming where she got her start in pharmacy working at the local City Drug. There were only 3 pharmacies within 90 miles, and all of them were staffed by grumpy middle-age male pharmacists. She wanted to change that!

So, after completing high school she went straight to the University of Wyoming and completed her undergraduate coursework and her PharmD degree in 6 years. She was active in student government while at UW and also served as president and later as vice-president of her pharmacy class.

Upon graduation a week after her 24th birthday Jamie moved to Utah where she worked in a small-town community pharmacy up in the snowy Rocky Mountains next door to some of Utah’s world-class skiing. For the past 10 years she has worked part-time in the community setting while growing her family. She is a mama to four little, rambunctious boys who this year are ages 2,4,6&8.

Nearly every year since graduating Jamie and her husband have taken at least one European vacation together because they love to travel and can’t get enough of it. Additionally, they take their little family to one (or more!) of the incredible United States National Parks as a family vacation.

Extensive travel and community pharmacy work schedules are not highly compatible, so in 2020 Jamie created her own job for herself that better suits her talents, her passions, and her family’s busy schedule. She abruptly jumped into the world of entrepreneurship and has found her true calling in life. She is the founder & CEO of Arches Health, LLC, and serves there as a precision medicine consultant pharmacist. To date, Arches Health focuses on two areas of precision medicine: functional wellness & pharmacogenomics.

Jamie serves as a business partner with prescribers and independent pharmacies to incorporate these two areas into their practice to improve the health and vitality of their patients, and provide the practice with a stream of non-insurance income.

Dr. Wilkey is optimistic about the future of pharmacy and knows great things are in store for those pharmacists who are willing to push boundaries, to think big, and to use the full extent of their education.

Hi everyone, welcome to SEASON 4 of the podcast! I’m super excited to be back, and to announce that the podcast will now be called “The Holistic Pharmacy Podcast” to better reflect the subject matter. (The first few episodes were recorded before the rebranding, so I still refer to it by its old RawFork name in those.)

I had no idea when I started the podcast that it would evolve in this way, but I did know that I wanted to share people’s stories. It has evolved from me reading my blog posts out loud, to interviewing non-traditional pharmacists, including herbalists! Season 4 will air every Friday, highlighting inspirational pharmacists that chose to fit out of the proverbial box and are working to build a new system of care, focusing on natural and preventative medicine.

We will kick off episode one with my first-ever LIVE recording of a podcast that streamed simultaneously on Facebook! Technology is super cool and I’m just trying to keep up and be open to the possibilities! I had a ton in common with this first guest of the season, Dr. David Morcom, a native Texan and a fellow practitioner of Functional Medicine.

David has fused his background in modern pharmacology and the newest research in herbs, nutrition, mindfulness, and lifestyle medicine. With an integrative and holistic approach, he aims to understand each patient as a whole and their condition at its root. Dr. Morcom has a wide range of specialties allowing him to understand the body at the biochemical level, but he also understands the interconnections of the various systems to intelligently guide patients from chronic disease back into optimal health and balance. Dr. Morcom has a strong passion for brain health and mood imbalances, specializes in dealing with difficult cases of bacterial/fungal overgrowth, and is an expert in the field of Nutrigenomics and Genetic Analysis. By using a unique blend of advanced diagnostics and intuition, Dr. Morcom is able to unravel the cascade of variables that have led to disease, design an individualized treatment plan to get people better, and empower his patients through diet/lifestyle education to be able to maintain their own health going forward. “My philosophy is based on the belief that the human body is a remarkable system that is innately self-healing, and with the proper use of whole foods, herbs, nutrition, and lifestyle changes, one can strengthen and support the body to achieve optimal health.” Connect with Dr. Morcom here:

I had a captivating conversation this week with Dr. Donna Mazzola. She shared her unique approach balancing science and natural medicine in light of her personal journey with autoimmune disease.

Dr. Donna Mazzola is a Pharmacist specializing in functional medicine and human nutrition. Dr. Mazzola has worked in many different areas of Pharmacy and realized her true passion was in overall health and wellness.

This passion became an obsession as her learnings conflicted with her core beliefs. Conventional medicine did not have all the answers, and she recognized the importance of balance with nutrition and medicine through her own struggles with Hashimotos.

She currently runs a blog “DrAutoimmunegirl” to share reputable scientific information related to autoimmune disorders. Dr. Mazzola’s mission is to help others identify the root cause of disease and create the balance between nutrition and medicine.

Dr. Mazzola received a Doctorate of Pharmacy from Ferris State University in 2006, and went on to complete a residency at the Detroit Medical Center. Through her training she further obtained a board certification in Geriatric Pharmacy.

Additionally, in 2015 she graduated with her Master’s in Business Administration from Central Michigan University. Recently, in 2020, she graduated from University of Western States with a Masters of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine.

I had such a blast recording this episode with Dr. Leah Johnson (known to the cannabis community as Dr. Leah "The Holistic Healer"). She was so passionate in talking about improving healthcare utilizing herbs, and in particular her knowledge around cannabis is astounding, and I personally learned a ton!

Dr. Leah is a trained Clinical Cannabis Pharmacist and the owner and CEO of Alchemist Consulting. She is also an accomplished, highly driven clinical Long-Term Care & Rehabilitation pharmacist, with primary focus in pain, mental health (depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.) and sexual health medication management. She also holds 3 patents (under the name: Leah Haibi) for natural herbal remedy tinctures, which she helped develop as the Head of Research & Development for an herbal supplement company.

Dr. Leah believes that complete physical & mental health and well-being can be influenced by the utilization of cannabis, as well as other herbal remedies and supplements, in conjunction with pharmaceutical medications. She believes that most patients are given too many and inappropriate prescription medications, while not being given the knowledge for utilizing effective herbals and supplements to reduce pill burden. She also believes that many patients are unable to get full relief of their ailments due to the missing components in their medication regimens.

In an effort to improve the overall health and well-being of patients, Dr. Leah works with patients and their healthcare providers, from all over the country, to reduce the amount of medications taken, alter timing and dosing of medications to improve effectiveness, and identify medications which could be causing issues. She also works with cannabis companies to advise them on dosing, safety, interactions, and how to better help their customers see health improvements with the use of their products. She also holds a Doctorate degree in Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

I had a blast recording this latest episode, featuring a multi-passionate pharmacist and entrepreneur, who boldly went after his dreams and never looked back.

Robert Kress, RPh, graduated from Temple University School of Pharmacy in Philadelphia PA in 1994. After becoming disenchanted with the chemical dominant based medical system, Robert took his passion for nutrition and became board certified in clinical nutrition through the Clinical Nutrition Certification Board, as well as trained as a compounding pharmacist through the Professional Compounding Centers of America.

During this time, Robert opened his own compounding and nutritional clinic, which blossomed into a complete longevity clinic housing other integrative practitioners. Robert became certified in Quantum Reflex Analysis, a practice of kinesiology, as well as have trained and certified in other modalities such as Reiki, auricular acupuncture, he is a Primal Health Coach, and a Registered Yoga Teacher.

Currently, Robert consults both with patients to enhance their health through lifestyle medicine as well practitioners to help integrate, promote, and implement natural medicine into their practices. Robert teaches continuing education courses on lifestyle medicine and functional pharmacy which is highlighted by the Integrative Pharmacy Specialist Certification training he created.

Robert believes as pharmacists, we are offered the perfect opportunity to integrate lifestyle medicine and functional pharmacy into our practices, as its core to the history of pharmacy. Patients are looking for natural solutions for their health, while practitioners are looking towards integrative care to help solve their client’s problems and enhance their practices.

Today I’m super excited to bring on a pharmacist who’s passionate about advocating about what you can do as a family and community to help deal with food sensitivities and allergies. As someone who deals with this on the daily with her own family, she sees just how challenging it is.

Dr. Charise Barnes uses her food allergy experiences with her pharmacy career and entrepreneur interests to help inform her community how to endure restrictions with food allergies, allergies, and asthma.

Her mission is to bring awareness to food allergies, especially since her own son has been allergic to peanuts and treenuts ever since he was a toddler. There are so many nuances to adjusting to caring for your family on the day to day, let alone navigating dining out or traveling with allergies. She is passionate about educating and finding solutions by sharing her own family’s journey.

Dr. Barnes graduated from Mercer University School of Pharmacy and is learning more each day about nutrition and food allergies.

I’m delighted to bring on another wonderful and innovative pharmacist with a huge heart on the show today. We had connected on social media on sharing similar views about the role pharmacists can and should play in the community.

Dr. Maria Glukhovsky has been a pharmacist for the past eleven years, clinical educator across many disease states and a clinical instructor at a Doctor of Pharmacy Program. She taught many diabetes and hypertension seminars to her patients over the years and has discovered everyone needs support and encouragement to succeed in their journey to better health.

Dr. Maria is a prescription monograph reviewer and editor at a top tele-health company, Plushcare.com and a contributing author for PACS (www.panicandanxiety.org). She loves medical writing and contributing to projects that will impact others to make a difference.

Dr. Maria is currently working on publishing a children’s book to promote mental health in children and their self-esteem. She has supported and counseled hundreds of patients on medications used to treat anxiety disorders and many other disorders, including non-pharmacologic interventions that help to aid anxiety symptoms. She prides herself in helping and supporting patients and everyone around her in any way she can and fights to help them in any way she can, whether it is for the cost of their medication or the disease state they are facing.

Due to many stressful situations in her career, she has personally experienced burnout due to everyday job related stress factors. It has become her passion to support, counsel, and provide hope to other healthcare professionals and everyone that may be in a similar situation and promote mental health. The important message she wants everyone to know is to never be afraid or reluctant to ask for help whether it is from family, friends or your medical provider, never lose hope and just know you are one step away from overcoming this.

Dr. Maria’s most recent endeavor is a podcast she founded. Lifted From the Scripts shares her faith to encourage, inspire, motivate and educate other pharmacists through her struggles. The podcast will discuss mental health, faith, encouragement for lifestyle modifications to control chronic disease states and to reignite a passion of how we can persevere and serve others.

I can’t wait to release this beautiful episode into the world. It was a conversation that was seamlessly co created by two souls being open, honest and raw. I honestly felt like I was going down a rabbit hole of an epic healing journey led by Alice herself. I really hope you guys enjoy this one!

From the compounding lab to the consultation office, Dr. Jenna W. Clack prides herself on finding new and innovative ways to naturally help the human body achieve neurohormonal homeostasis. Through an advanced understanding of epigenetics, hormonal pathways, methylation, detoxification, and metabolic & functional medicine, Jenna’s approach has been utilized by patients and practitioners alike.

Jenna’s pharmacy background began over a decade ago, at age 18, working at an independent compounding pharmacy in the Texas hill country. From there, she gained her Doctorate of Pharmacy from The University the Incarnate Word (San Antonio, TX), and soon after completed her advanced fellowship in Anti-Aging, Metabolic & Functional Medicine.

Currently, Jenna and her family of five reside in southern Costa Rica, where they own/operate a Space creation company centered around holistic healing and mental wellness. Today I had the pleasure of hanging out virtually with a person who blew me away with both her passion and wealth of knowledge and experience in the healthcare field. Dr. Marilena Grittani has been a Clinical Pharmacist for over 26 years, practiced in several hospitals and pharmacies throughout 5 states of the US.

But that’s not the thing that makes her the most impressive. How she got her credentials required a lot of work and dedication, as she moved from a different continent and built both a career and a family in a foreign country.

It’s no wonder that her focus now is to empower each female that loves and cares about her family, to make the best-educated medical decisions to improve her family's health. She has built an entire community around her vision and passion.

Dr. Marilena’s “Legal Drug Dealer” podcast launched earlier this year originally focused on educating the listener about what pharmacists do but quickly evolved to a medical platform for professional providers that want to educate around their areas of expertise and non-traditional medical ways to treat patients.

Since then, the podcast has exposed topics like Children’s medications, Menopause and its treatment with Bioidenticals, How to confront fear about medical issues, How to get your medication approved by your insurance, and What good doctors want all patients to know, among others.

Dr. Marilena’s most recent endeavor was a huge undertaking into a virtual conference called “Taking Control Of My Own Health,” an educational platform led by fellow professional medical experts. This summit allows for the generous sharing of information and wisdom with those that need and want it.

Christine was born and raised in Armenia. She came to the United States when she was 16 years old. She is a mamma of 2 kids (9 yo son, 7 yo daughter) and is married to her high school prom date. In 2007 she received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After graduation she continued her training at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio to pursue PGY1 and PGY2 Residency and Master of Science in Health System Pharmacy Administration. In 2009 she moved back to California and has been working in a hospital setting ever since.

Due to back to back pregnancies and stress, she quickly realized her health was declining. Mother’s Day weekend 2015 she realized how miserable she was feeling, she was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. That day she made a decision and said yes to herself by partnering with multibillion-dollar health and wellness company to help her transform her life. She found her passion in healing her body with nutrition and fitness using functional medicine approach. As a holistic health lifestyle entrepreneur, she decided to launch her own online functional medicine practice and became an expert teaching others how to earn residual income. During her health transformation journey, she not only lost over 100 lbs, but also started competing in multiple bikini bodybuilding fitness shows and started running marathons. She is the real-life Wonder Woman.
